This new hop sounds fishy...With our recent love of tinned seafood we were pretty stoked to hear about Anchovy hops, and even more stoked to hear they don't taste like anchovies.  We'll have to find a beer with these soon.Y'all remember a couple of years ago when someone stole two truckloads of beer from Sweetwater Brewery?  Well, some folks in Memphis beat that by stealing "17 or 18 truckloads" of Twisted Tea.  What in the world will you do with that much Tea?  I can't wait to hear how this shakes out.Spice up your boring beerI'm not sure this is exactly new, but the internet says to upgrade your cheap beer to put a few dashes of hot sauce in it.  Some places really go all out with that like a Loaded Tecate or the Dressed Hamm's.  I decide to try it with a Three Taverns Beeps and gotta say, pretty good.On the note of spicy beers... remember when chile pepper beers were cool?  Habnero Sculpin, Stone's horrendous Crime and Punishment.  We loved No Label's Don Jalapeno.  Another one last to the sand of time, mostly.More brewery closures coming at us and another big one this week with the announcement that Ecliptic Brewing would close their pub and restaurant.  However, the brand's beer will still be available.Happy Thanksgiving! We're talking off this week to stuff our fat faces with turkey.  We hope you'll do the same.  Have a great holiday and we'll see you in two weeks!Beers of the WeekFeatured!  Parish's Holy Ghost 3X NE IPA - Deep dive on the show.Parish Ghost in the MachineParish Reve Coffee StoutSierra Nevada CelebrationAllagash GatherwellThanks for listening to Beer Guys Radio! Welcome back and thanks for joining us for the 28th installment of the Beneath the Surface podcast. In Beneath the Surface Podcast: Anything But Mainstream, Corey and Sean reflect on a project that took place back in 2016 in and around the Apalachicola River--what might be BOTE's most underrated trip so far.  The Apalachicola River is fed from the Chattahoochee River, starting where the Chattahoochee River is dammed at the Florida state line in Southern Georgia. The river is the Apalachicola Bay's primary source of freshwater, an essential element to mix with the saltwater coming in from the Gulf of Mexico to make the ideal environment for thriving oyster beds. In this episode, the guys take another multi-day paddle trip down the Apalachicola River to shed light on the oyster fishery and its need for conservation. So sit back, press play, and learn a little something about what's happening along the Gulf Coast with a few laugh out loud moments along the way.Links from the EpisodeDiscover Florida's Forgotten Coast. Learn more about why Apalachicola Bay oyster fisheries are in danger.Enjoy BOTE Presents // Anything but Mainstream, a conservation expedition.Get to know the mission of the Waterkeeper Alliance. Jump back to episode 26 to learn about our partnership with SweetWater Brewery. The guys paddled the river on Flood and HD solid paddle boards.Who's in the EpisodeLead Designer, Co-Founder, and CEO at BOTE, Corey Cooper is a licensed engineer hailing from Auburn University. Speed 2: Cruise Control is an exemplar of an awful sequel. Is it bigger? Sure. Did it cost more? Most definitely. Is it more entertaining? Not even close. The origins of its issues can be tracked back to two words: contractually obligated. Jan de Bont, renowned cinematographer and director of the original Speed, was tied to the sequel. He had no choice. The stars of the first film—Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves—however, were not. You will be shocked to hear that after reading the script, Reeves could not be swayed to do it—even with $10+ million dollars waving in front of his face. Bullock relented, but only because she had her eyes on a passion project (Hope Floats), which she could parlay a large payday into. Losing your central character is not exactly a deal breaker, but it is a troubling sign. For a moment, imagine the Karate Kid Part II without Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso or Terminator 2 without Arnold as the T-800. All the goodwill and familiarity they'd developed with the audience had to be rebuilt. Suffice to say, it handcuffs the movie. It does not cripple it, though. What ultimately sinks Speed 2 is its, well, lack of speed. A cruise ship, traveling thousands of miles over the space of days, lacks the frenetic energy of a bus on the highway. There is never a sense of urgency in this movie. It's plodding pace and refusal to find a natural crescendo don't help that. For all of the money thrown into this one—$110 million, compared to just $30 million for its predecessor—there is almost no bang for the buck.  If you love Speed, you won't love this. But, hey, we've all got plenty of time on our hands. So sit back, pound four to five Goin' Coastal IPAs from SweetWater Brewery, and strap on a LifeVest. I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK), Capt. Orpheus Brewing and The Woodlands talk sour and wild beers Wild and sour beers continue to grow in popularity.  From "simple" sour beers like Berliner Weisse and Gose to complex, spontaneously fermented ales with funky, earthy, cheesy character.  There's a huge variety out there. When you think of SweetWater Brewery, you may not think of sour beers - but you should.  Nick Burgoyne, Lead Brewer and Blender at SweetWater's The Woodlands focuses on brewing wild, sour, funky and barrel-aged beers.  He recently won a Silver Medal for Cambium (an American Wild Ale) at the US Open Beer Championship. Orpheus Brewing opened in Atlanta in 2014.  Brewmaster and President Jason Pellett had a goal to introduce an approachable, sour beer that anyone could afford and his Atlanta (Tart Plum Saison) did just that.  In the past 4 years, Orpheus has brewed many more sour beers, and recently won Bronze for Lambic-style Ales at the Great American Beer Fest. Burgoyne and Pellett join us this week to talk about the adventure of expanding the acceptance of sour beers.  We talk simple kettle sours like Berliner Weisse and Gose, and more complex sours like Lambic and Gueze.   We also discuss the challenges facing American brewers as they mimic these styles and try to name them without offending traditional Belgian brewers, and how that brought about the move towards the Méthode Traditionnelle under the guidance of HORAL (High Council for Artisinal Lambic Beers).  As we sip through several beers, the conversation moves to the process of traditional spontaneous brewing and blending sour beers. The show was taped at SweetWater Brewery during ZCON Atlanta's brewery night.  We talk with Z Car Club Association President Chris Karl about Z Cars, the club and ZCON - their annual national convention.
