In this episode we focus on commercialising your personal brand, or what I like to say: extracting value from the profile and reputation you build in the marketplace. I'm talking about course creation specifically - this will be of particular interest to listeners who are consultants, coaches, advisors - who currently trade time for money and are looking at ways to maximise their revenue without killing themselves in the process. My guest today is GREG BURGOYNE from New Zealand. Greg is the founder of the Course Creators Academy; he helps thought leaders and experts (coaches/consultants) unpack their valuable IP and create an offering in order to scale their impact. In the conversation, we touch on a number of topics associated with the process of productising one's knowledge for commercial gain, including: * Cohort-based courses, and the stages involved in launching and delivering them * Self-paced evergreen courses, with or without a community component, plus the hybrid variations (key message: there are lot of different ways to productise and sell your knowledge today!) * Delivering online training into enterprise-level organisations * The different types of delivery platforms e.g. Kajabi, Podia (all-in-one platforms) vs course hosting platforms such as Teachable, and Thinkific; marketplaces like Udemy (the “YouTube of paid courses”); WordPress plugin options, plus online community platforms such as Mighty Networks that house courses and training as well as community forums Greg says it's important when starting out to begin small, validate your idea, then do it live: "don't necessarily productise it straight away". We cover self-sabotage, and people's aversion to the marketing and sales function involved in building a business around course creation. QUOTABLE QUOTE: “Who is going to thank you on the other side of stepping out of your comfort zone?” Check out Greg's website, or connect with him on LinkedIn.

Jane McRea is one of the most famous women of the Revolution. Her story has been told in paintings, novels, and poems, and embellished by folklorists and historians. , But we know very little about this 24-year old who died tragically in the summer of 1777. We know that as General Burgoyne's army marched toward Albany she was killed, and though her betrothed was a Tory marching with Burgoyne, her death at the hands of Burgoyne's Native American allies became a cause celebre, which may have roused the New England militia to defend the frontier. Who was Jane McCrea? What was she doing at Fort Edward in July of 1777?

Over the last few years, a growing number of mainstream Christian denominations have begun to depart from the historic Christian understanding of sex and marriage. While this may have been done in an effort to make gospel more appealing to the wider culture, could it actually have the opposite effect? If denominations are destroying themselves then who is to blame? Is it the liberal progressives pushing for a redefinition of the Bible's teaching or the evangelicals who are not willing to let this go as a secondary issue? And what are we to make of the vast number of Christians in the majority world who don't support these changes? Do they need to get with the program or are we in danger of ignoring the voices of Christians outside of the West? As ever, Andy, Aaron and Michael discuss all these meaty questions and more in this provocative and thought provoking episode. Please remember that Pod of the Gaps is a listener-supported-podcast. In this episode, we continue talking about the Revolutionary War, aka the War for American Freedom, aka ‘Merica War'. We hope this one is more factual and just as hilarious as Episode 57. We recount the events following the Crossing of the Delaware River, highlight Burgoyne's surrender at Saratoga, the winter at Valley Forge, the alliance between France and the US, and how this alliance changed the outcome of the war, with some archaeological case studies sprinkled throughout the narrative. We get into a discussion about the traitorous Benedict Arnold and his relationship to Eggs Benedict, the Articles of Confederation, and the end of the war. We spend some time promoting the importance of battlefield archaeology and its importance for learning more about the War for American Independance. We end the snoozer with some ridiculous banter. In today's show I am delighted to be joined by Mick Burgoyne. Mick is one half of the folk/rock duo, Fresh Maggots, which also features Leigh Dolphin. Originally from Nuneaton in Warwickshire, England, the band's first self titled album was released in October 1971 on RCA records followed by a single. Playing the university circuit and clubs such as the famous Marquee club in London, the band also did live sessions for Radio Luxembourg (Kid Jensen show) and BBC Radio One (Night Ride and the Johnny Walker show). The duo split in 1976 but remained friends ever since. In 2017 they were contacted by a German music magazine for an interview as the original album is still very popular around the world having gained 'cult' status. Following the interview the duo decided to start writing songs again. Their second studio album 'Waiting for the Sun' on 'Coventry Music Museum Records, produced and engineered by Nick Burns, was released on 31st October 2020 almost 50 years after the first! This is a great story of 2 young talented musicians entering the music industry unexpectedly in the heady days of the early 1970s! The story also has a happy ending!
