Let's Dish! Because this week's episode of Dishing with Buff Faye is EXTRA special! For the first time ever, Buff Faye takes center stage as both host and featured guest, spilling the tea on the breakout reality docuseries Pageant Queens: Our Story Behind the Crown. And officially joining the podcast as Buff Faye's crowned new sidekick? None other than the BIG JUICEY Giovonni D. Diamond! Gio steps fully into his royal role beside the Queen of the Queen City with more stories about his dating life, learning self-worth, and proudly declaring that “Gio is enough and EVERYTHING!” Of course, the episode quickly spirals into camp chaos as Gio discusses his longtime crush on Tinky Winky from the Teletubbies while serving fashion “flagging” moments live in the studio. Then after the break, the crown gets heavy. Buff Faye opens up about starring in Pageant Queens, the new reality series bringing a national spotlight to 10 legendary drag entertainers competing in the ultimate “Queen of Drag” competition for a $50,000 grand prize. Buff Faye the Queen of the Queen City proudly represents Charlotte and the Carolinas on a national stage. Buff dishes on her unforgettable Snow White-inspired competition talent, being underestimated by fellow contestants, facing criticism and body shaming, and proudly embracing her larger-than-life “South Beach type” energy. She also spills a little tea on the other queens competing in the series and shares how every obstacle became another opportunity to shine. Tune in, dolls- this episode delivers everything fans love about Buff Faye: camp, charisma, comedy, chaos, and heart. While Dishing with Buff Faye takes a brief hiatus for the start of summer, the podcast returns BIGGER, LOUDER, and GAYER this June with a brand-new Pride Month celebration episode dropping at the end of the month. Until then, catch Buff Faye live in Charlotte and beyond — and now streaming, don't miss "Pageant Queens: Our Story Behind the Crown." Watch, cheer, and experience Buff Faye... ALL YOU CAN EAT!
Verpest rechts onze seks?
Trevlig lyssning!

In this episode, Danny is joined by comedian, actor, author and comedy writer Dave Thompson. Dave has appeared in a number of TV shows, often with Harry Hill in various guises. He's also written for several shows, including Kelsey Grammer Presents The Sketch Show, and for a number of other comics, including Stuart Lee and Omid Djalili. He's appeared in Ben Elton's film Maybe Baby, and is a regular on the stand-up circuit, making headlines after being sacked from his role as the original Tinky Winky in the Teletubbies for being told that his interpretation of the role was "not acceptable." After spending several years working as a Drama Movement Therapist, Dave became a stand-up comic. He shares his interesting journey, including how raising his autistic daughter changed his outlook on life, as well as some funny stories about his celebrity life. KEY TAKEAWAYS Stand-up comedy used to be a good way of opening the door to acting. Now, it's far harder to make money as a stand-up. Some people have spent 5 years only doing unpaid gigs. Some even more. Increasingly, performing abroad is more lucrative. Wearing a furry costume on a children's TV set makes no difference to how funny Dave is as a stand-up comedian, yet it has opened lots of doors. Teletubbies fans everywhere want to be photographed with Dave, especially in Asia and India Heckling comics is a very Anglo-Saxon thing. Most comics are quite different in their day-to-day life. BEST MOMENTS “We´ll get to Tinky Winky in a minute.” “I'm an aristocrat stuck in a peasant's body.” "I was sh**t, for at least the first 10 years of my stand-up comedy career, but I only did 4 unpaid guest spots before I got my first paid set." “Lots of truth in it (Dave's book), but nothing that would get me sued.” “I entertain drunk people who don't care about me as a substitute for love.” EPISODE RESOURCES http://www.davethompson.org.uk The Sex Life of a Comedian - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sex-Life-Comedian-Dave-Thompson/dp/1447695151/ Harry Hill´s Fruit Fancies - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD5MJt6hf8OcseMKXER2Jg6uhxOytRKdA HOST BIO Historian, performer, and mentor Danny Hurst has been engaging audiences for many years, whether as a lecturer, stand-up comic or intervention teacher with young offenders and excluded secondary students. Having worked with some of the most difficult people in the UK, he is a natural storyteller and entertainer, whilst purveying the most fascinating information that you didn't know you didn't know. A writer and host of pub quizzes across London, he has travelled extensively and speaks several languages. He has been a consultant for exhibitions at the Imperial War Museum and Natural History Museum in London as well as presenting accelerated learning seminars across the UK. Tinky Winky, Dipsy, La La and Po were introduced to British viewers on 31st March, 1997 - launching an international phenomenon and changing kid's television forever. ‘Teletubbies' was an enormous hit for the BBC, but not without controversy: from viewers concerned that the characters' toddlerish language might impede the linguistic development of the nation's children, to angry Radio Times readers who claimed the BBC were committing ‘cultural vandalism' by axing the long-running series Playdays. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly get lost in the weeds of Teletubbies Wiki fandom; revisit the ‘toy rage' that the show had inspired by Christmas 1997; and reveal why the first generation ‘tubbies never did live appearances… Further Reading: • ‘Teletubbies turn 20: how four blinking toddlers became a true TV phenomenon' (The Guardian, 2017): https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/mar/31/teletubbies-turn-20-how-four-blinking-toddlers-became-a-true-tv-phenomenon • ‘The Great Distractor' (Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy, 2021): https://www.mediatechdemocracy.com/work/the-great-distractor • ‘Teletubbies: Ned's Bicycle' (BBC, 1997): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9woh2gKx1rM&list=PL8Zq4IrtuktnIh_XkWqMRfNkebVPgUIwy Love the show? In this episode, we take a deep dive into Teletubbies, the iconic and groundbreaking children's TV show that captivated audiences around the world in the late 90s. With its colorful characters, surreal landscapes, and unique approach to early childhood development, Teletubbies wasn't just a hit—it was a cultural phenomenon. We explore how this unconventional show became one of the most influential and talked-about children's programs of all time. We begin by exploring the origins of Teletubbies. Created by Anne Wood and Andrew Davenport, the show was designed specifically for toddlers, using simple language, repetition, and bright visuals. We'll discuss how its creators took inspiration from the rapidly changing technology landscape of the 90s, and how they crafted a show that broke all the traditional rules of children's television. From its conception to its debut, we'll dive into what made Teletubbies so unique and unlike anything else on TV. Next, we move on to the impact Teletubbies had both on children and the wider public. The show sparked a range of reactions—from parents who praised its soothing nature to critics who questioned its strange, often confusing content. We'll talk about the massive success of the show, including its multiple BAFTA awards, global syndication, and the billions in merchandise sales it generated. At the same time, we'll delve into the controversies that surrounded the show, from concerns about its appeal to very young children to debates over Tinky Winky's perceived symbolism. We'll explore the enduring legacy of Teletubbies. Even after the original series ended in 2001, the show continued to air in reruns and was eventually rebooted in 2015 for a new generation of viewers. We wrap up the episode by reflecting on what Teletubbies meant to an entire generation of children, and how it remains a symbol of 90s pop culture. We'll discuss whether the show's surreal charm is timeless or simply a product of its era, and why Teletubbies continues to be remembered so fondly. Talk2TheHand is an independent throwback podcast run by husband and wife, Jimmy and Beth. "Pikachu?! It's Tinky-Winky! And actually Tinky-Winky was the purple one and Po was the yellow one. You are all over the place!" argues Stephen as Christi discovers if there's one line she shouldn't cross t's Stephen's nerdiness (it's ok Christi, Po was actually the red one!). An in depth-analysis of Tinky-Winky's purse might not be the spookiest topic to kick-off this week's episode, but trust us that once the actual topic gets underway you'll deeply miss the innocence of Tinky-Winky's purse. On this week's episode of Beyond the Norm Christi and Stephen are diving head first into two modern true-crime stories that are equal parts shocking and revolting. The first story concerns the fate of Lacey Fletcher, a woman who was left to die on her family's couch over the course of 12 years. After Lacey suffered a cognitive set-back in her 20's, her parents decided she was better off on the couch where they wouldn't have to deal with her. Slowly but surely Lacey's body atrophied into the cushions, fusing with the couch itself. The resulting scene was so horrific that the medical examiners determined it to be one of the cruelest crime scenes they'd ever witnessed. The second story brings us back to our Beyond the Norm home of New Orleans for the scandalous murder of Addie Hall by her boyfriend Zack Bowen. Trapped together by Hurricane Katrina, their relationship was already on the rocks and both Addie and Zack hit their breaking points. Addie handled it by requesting that Zack be evicted. Zach handled it by murdering Addie and killing himself. The eight page suicide note left behind by Zach detailed his crimes in exacting and haunting detail. The crime scene is the stuff of pure nightmares. There's still plenty of people in the French Quarter who remember the events well. Some of those people might even know Stephen and have given him a little direct insight into the lives of Zack and Addie, and if you tune-in he might just share them with you! Quotes“I should just change your name in my phone to Ignorant Bitch instead of Christi. I mean that's just more appropriate.” (5:42-5:48 | Stephen)“My husbands here, I'm not neglecting [the dog], he's taking care of her. Oh my god! Like if you could chew up food and spit it down her throat like a bird you would.” (31:41-31:48 | Christi & Stephen)“Hey thanks for your service! Here's some nipples!” (37:31-37:36 | Christi)“No human flesh was found in his system. Ok good. Which means that he didn't actually eat her... not that that makes it any better!" We chat to the brilliant clown and veteran comedian, Dave Thompson. He is probably best known for playing Tinky-Winky in the Teletubbies – especially after he was sacked in July 1997 because the BBC thought his interpretation of the role was ‘unacceptable'.As a live act, he has worked in the USA, Sweden, France, Ireland, Holland, The Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Dubai, Oman, and The Falklands as well as on the British circuit. His absurdist physical humour led Ben Elton to write a role for him in his 2000 movie Maybe Babe, as Dave The Comedian, aka Mrs. Furblob. Here is an overview of what we discussed:[[30:13]] The various comedy and clown personas, what are the problems with comedy teachers[[37:57]] We are all idiots groping around in the dark [[56:08]] Who has remained grounded despite their huge success and how being a parent makes you more understanding[[58:40]] How people can live with failure but can't live with successIf you would like to know more about Dave Thompson, you can read his book, the sex life of a comedian here for the paperback version:https://amzn.to/3WFzIEj and here for the Kindle version:https://amzn.to/3CeZ8R7. When you think about the color purple, what comes to mind? The Pulitzer prize winning novel written by Alice Walker? The Spielberg directed movie that won Whoopi Goldberg an Oscar and gave the world Oprah Winfrey's famous "You Told Harpo to Beat Me" monologue? Perhaps it conjures to mind a beloved children's character - Barney the Dinosaur, Tinky Winky from the Teletubbies, Count von Count of Sesame Street or The Grimace of McDonald's fame? Or could it create a memory of the beloved decades-old children's book involving a young boy named Harold and his adventures with a crayon of said aforementioned color? Be honest - it really makes you think of Prince, doesn't it - "Purple Rain" is and always will be a true classic as His Royal Badness was a true American icon ... and his work in helping create Morris Day and the Time should always be commended. We digress ... today on The Overlap Podcast, purple reigns over the discussion because of a big life event for our boys Sid and Keith - Keith's pregnant and having Sid's baby ... er, we mean, they both recently attained a high honor within the world of jiu-jitsu by earning their purple belt (even though it clashes terribly with those white ... jiu-jitsu suits whose name we can pronounce but never remember how to properly spell). Fashion concerns aside, this marks a milestone for both our boys, as it took both of them 5 to 6 years to attain this rank, longer than it would to earn a bachelor's degree (which would be a first for Keith). You might be tempted to skip this episode ... we get the impulse, as our eyes glazed over when the topic was told to us. However, hear us out - this is actually an incredibly important episode that isn't just self-congratulatory claptrap. Our boys banter about what it took to get there - from the importance of doing the hard work to creating community and commonality, things that can be applied to more than just wrasslin' around in weird suits with clashing belts. And, as an added bonus, you get to hear multiple tales of both Sid and Keith getting choked out and becoming unconscious. We don't know about you dear listeners, but the image of choking Keith until he's unconscious is really ... just delightful for us to imagine. So turn it on, tune in and turn it up - it's Purple Week here at Overlap. Whether that's the belt they're wearing or the color of Keith's face as our hands slowly close around his windpipe ... we'll let you decide. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly get lost in the weeds of Teletubbies Wiki fandom; revisit the ‘toy rage' that the show had inspired by Christmas 1997; and reveal why the first generation ‘tubbies never did live appearances… Further Reading: • ‘Teletubbies turn 20: how four blinking toddlers became a true TV phenomenon' (The Guardian, 2017): https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/mar/31/teletubbies-turn-20-how-four-blinking-toddlers-became-a-true-tv-phenomenon • ‘The Great Distractor' (Centre for Media, Technology and Democracy, 2021): https://www.mediatechdemocracy.com/work/the-great-distractor • ‘Teletubbies: Ned's Bicycle' (BBC, 1997): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9woh2gKx1rM&list=PL8Zq4IrtuktnIh_XkWqMRfNkebVPgUIwy If you enjoyed this episode, there's three-and-a-half minutes MORE material about the Teletubbies exclusively available to our supporters today! This week sees us paying homage to the montage and though it's really an editing technique if you want to be pedantic about it which I do, they're a useful tool in the screenwriters arsenal too, perhaps being used to propel the plot forward as in the classic ROCKY-style training montage or maybe used to set tone and weave plotlines together as in The Story Of The Apartment sequence in the brilliant Brazilian crime drama CITY OF GOD. Join us as we chat through some of our favourite examples and as always, let us know your favourite too and we'll bring it up next week. HUSTLERS (2019) is a movie based on a magazine article about a series of real crimes that took place after the financial crash in September 2008. Destiny (Constance Wu) is a new girl on the dancing scene and is quickly taken under the wing of alpha female Ramona (Jennifer Lopez) who teaches her the ropes at Moves strip club. When the money runs out the girls find themselves with limited options, and, desperate to bring back the good times to the club and make a quick buck for their various dependants, they decide to exploit their former customers by drugging them and running up huge credit card debt in their name. Given their clientele is made up almost exclusively of Wall Street types or shady sexual predators, this is essentially a victimless crime. Teletubby Land was actually a farmer's field in Stratford-Upon-Avon so our frankly ridiculous speculation about the origins of the TELETUBBIES is largely redundant. Don't think about that while you listen to us ramble. As fathers of course we have all seen the adventures of Po, Laa-Laa, Dipsy and Tinky Winky many times before so it seems surprising it's taken us this long to get round to chatting about the giant, colourful space aliens, with their uncanny valley baby features and television stomachs broadcasting real world children's stories twice in the same 20 minute programme. Twice! What monsters these people are.We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. In this episode, the tables have been turned, and I am on the other side of the microphone! In the last series of the podcast, I interviewed Magnus Goransson, Design Director at LEGO's Creative Play Lab. After our conversation, Magnus reached out and offered to interview me in return – specifically about my performance work. One of my many roles as a creative is being a creature performer. I trained as an actor and I specialise in bringing non-human characters to life. One of the most well-known of these was Tinky Winky from Teletubbies. And as you'll hear, this struck a chord with Magnus, who was intrigued to know more. Some of the topics we cover in our conversation include: - how I discovered the world of creature performance - my early training and how it continues to influence my work today - how that training overlaps with how designers work - how I use physical constraints to inform the creative process - we talk about some of the unique challenges of this line of work - and we compare notes on a few practical tips for creatives Please enjoy this slightly different episode of The Practical Creative!
