The comedian known as Fig (whose real name is Craig Figueiredo) was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York where he attended school and was often referred to as the class clown as a teen. As an adult and discovering his comedic talent, Fig joined a church named ZOE Ministries where he became a part of an improv group named the ZOE PLAYERS. With the popularity of the improv group, and after hearing time after time “you missed your calling”the comedian Fig decided to give his natural comedic ability a chance to make people laugh a go. This lead him to try his hand at a possible professional career in comedy as he found his way to the UPTOWN Comedy Club which was an underground comedy club known for it's urban comedy highlighting many comedians, and was located on 125th Street in the heart of Harlem, NY. The Club and spending many days on stage there is where Fig honed his comedic skills. While doing many performances amongst comedians such as Doug E Doug, Flex, Tracy Morgan, and the late Monteria Ivey (which was one of Figs closest friends and a mentor) he was able to get his rhythm as a comedian and find his particular audience and hone in on his skills. Well, if you’re interested in high-powered comedy, everything. From headlining comedy clubs, to showing-out on television, Dominique is a seasoned face of funny in America. She’s created laughs on stages across the world, including NBC’s Last Comic Standing, HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, Comedy Central’s “The Chappelle Show,” O.W.N’S “Herlarious,” the Adult Swim television shows “Black Jesus” and “Tropical Cop Tales,” and in the film Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween. Her stand-up special “Stop Me When I’m Lying” (2017) is available on Amazon Prime. After switching careers from postal work to comedy, Dominique quickly gained notoriety for telling it like it is, raw and uncut. Jonathan Hood interviews comedian Aries Spears, who is coming to the Chicago Improv. Aries discusses his career, his thoughts on Michael Jordan vs Lebron James debate, his comedy influences and much more. Aries Spears (born April 3, 1975) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and voice artist from New York City. Spears was a regular on Fox's sketch comedy series MADtv, appearing in 198 episodes, making him the second longest-serving cast member on the show behind Michael McDonald. In 2011, he released a special called Aries Spears: Hollywood, Look I'm Smiling. Spears was born in Chicago, IL and moved to New York when he was a year or two old. His mother, Doris Spears, is a jazz singer. Spears moved to New Jersey at age 11 and attended Arthur M. Judd Elementary School. He became a comedian at 14, performing stand-up comedy in various comedy clubs in New York City. He was expelled for fighting during his sophomore year in North Brunswick Township High School in North Brunswick Township, at age 17. Spears started doing his own comedy routine around his hometown. Spears said that his first stand up comedy was doing impressions at the Uptown Comedy Club in Harlem, and Spears said that he recalls himself doing impressions of James Brown and Jack Nicholson during his first stand up comedy. WHITE'S FAMILY IS THAT FAMILY.Born and raised in East New York, one of Brooklyn's toughest neighborhoods, A.G. is sure to give all of his audiences a real “taste of comedy with a different flavor…”After getting positive feedback for performances at several Brooklyn nightspots, A.G. took his act to Harlem where he auditioned and performed at the renowned Uptown Comedy Club. He passed their “New Jack” segment, was asked to return as a regular and later received his first national broadcast opportunity on their newly televised show, The Uptown Comedy Club. Through stand-up routines airing nationally on FOX and in syndication, A.G.'s unique style gained familiarity throughout the comedy arena. Emphatically accepted by New York audiences, talent agents suddenly received word of A.G. White. They observed and enjoyed several of his performances then asked him to perform at the prestigious Apollo Theater in Harlem; leading to his TV performance on It's Showtime at the Apollo. He was featured as the guest comedian and soon after, performed on the Apollo Comedy Hour. Born and raised in Jackson, MI Katrina Pope, moved to Atlanta the summer of 1996, started putting her vision of becoming a comedienne together on February 18, 2010, when she woke up to an epiphany. “I want to be a comedian!” She immediately started to follow her dreams. The road to where she is known wasn't easy but she's remained determined, aggressive and humble the entire way.A self-proclaimed “professional student” she has worked various jobs throughout her life, to include being in the Military for 10 years, Paralegal, Esthetician, and Bartender. Never being able to find excitement in Corporate American, coupled with being fired for her “attitude not being conducive to the work environment” she started bartending. Bartending allowed her to develop her alter ego “Kspot”. Her flexible schedule of bartending 3 days a week, allowed Katrina to attend, St. Leo University and finally graduate in June 2009 with a BA in Criminal. She later decided to take the LSAT in hopes of becoming a Criminal Defense Attorney, yet quickly learned a score of 125, was more like her ideal weight that an competitive score to attend law school.Already known for her “Brutally Honest” attitude, Katrina quickly familiarized herself with the stage. Katrina Pope started her comedy career in Montgomery AL, opening up for the nationally respected comedian Doug Williams on April 9, 2010. Despite the microphone malfunctions and colorful language, Katrina, was able to make the crowd laugh and look good while doing it. After her first show, she developed her tagline “I just look like this” after getting several sideways compliments from the crowd on her looks. “I just look like this” let everybody know that even though she's cute and prissy, she's been through some trials in her life and she's able to relate to all women. He is the middle child of Bishop and Annie Pecola Brown and he has an older brother Andre (Dre') and younger sister LaShawn. Both siblings play significant roles in his organization (Mgmt.). Kevin and his brother Dre created and produced "The Uptown Comedy Club" TV show that broadcasted on FOX 5 network for four seasons (1992-1995). "The Uptown Comedy Club" was located in the heart of Harlem on 125th St and experienced National success in the 80's and 90's. He managed, taught and worked with some of today's most successful comedians, i.e. JB Smoove of "Curb Your Enthusiasm", Flex Alexander of UPN's One on One, Tracy Morgan of NBC's 30 Rock and Chris Tucker of the " Rush Hour" franchise, to name a few. Kevin attended the T. Schreiber Studio for acting and comedy after his successful run with the Uptown Comedy Club. In the Urban community aka's and nicknames are common. Kevin referred to himself as "Big Kev" to distinguish his brand. Kevin later added "Dot Com" to his "Big Kev" moniker to differentiate himself from others who use the same title. At the "30 Rock" audition, upon entering the room, Tracy Morgan recognized his homie Kevin Brown whom he had not seen for eight years.
