My “Cool Runnings” costar Doug E Doug and I play catch-up as we discuss a myriad of topics. Nothing is off the table as we traverse through subjects like Fatherhood, Fame and Beyoncé. We even get around to talking about the movie “Cool Runnings” and the effect it had on our young lives. Doug is a great conversationalist who maneuvers through sensitive and or complexed subject matters with humor and ease. His insights are very noteworthy and I often leave these conversations feeling enlightened and enriched. They usually spark some of my own insights and helps me to gain several new perspectives.

This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas head to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to pay respects to the legendary Hart wrestling family, and stumble upon a group of Jamaican's training to be Olympic Bobsleighers. We take another dip in 1993 – The Filaversary – with John Turteltaub's sports comedy, COOL RUNNINGS, starring John Candy, Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis and Malik Yoba. Loosely based on the real story of the Jamaican bobsleigh team, that qualified to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics, we take a look back on this 30-year-old classic, and have varying opinions on how it has held up. Expect lots of arguing, as we dive into how this one got made, an original version of the film, the true story behind the 1988 Jamaican team, and we show some love for John Candy and Leon Robinson (who is probably one of the more underrated Black American actors of his era – seriously, seek out his role as David Ruffin in The Temptations TV movie)."Feel the rhythm! The comedian known as Fig (whose real name is Craig Figueiredo) was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York where he attended school and was often referred to as the class clown as a teen. As an adult and discovering his comedic talent, Fig joined a church named ZOE Ministries where he became a part of an improv group named the ZOE PLAYERS. With the popularity of the improv group, and after hearing time after time “you missed your calling”the comedian Fig decided to give his natural comedic ability a chance to make people laugh a go. This lead him to try his hand at a possible professional career in comedy as he found his way to the UPTOWN Comedy Club which was an underground comedy club known for it's urban comedy highlighting many comedians, and was located on 125th Street in the heart of Harlem, NY. The Club and spending many days on stage there is where Fig honed his comedic skills. While doing many performances amongst comedians such as Doug E Doug, Flex, Tracy Morgan, and the late Monteria Ivey (which was one of Figs closest friends and a mentor) he was able to get his rhythm as a comedian and find his particular audience and hone in on his skills. Since then, Fig's talent has afforded him the opportunity to travel and bring joy and laughter to many people across the country and abroad for Burger King, Ford, Nike, Mastercard, and Walmart, Wendy Williams and Saturday Night Live are just a few of the shows/commercials that featured his many talents.Has been on shows like The Uptown Comedy Club, The Apollo Comedy Hour, Russell Simmon's Def Comedy Jam, and BET's Comic View just to name a few. In addition, over the years Fig has also become an accomplished actor being cast in television commercials and episodes for many programs, while also using his comedic talents for voiceovers. We drop names of different movies toward the end. You might wanna google them as well ("Def By Temptation", "Heart Condition". TJ and the Rook review the 1993 Walt Disney Film "Cool Runnings." The movie is loosely based on the true story of Jamaica's first bobsled team starring John Candy, Leon, and Doug E. Doug. Four Jamaicans (Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawle D. Lewis, and Malik Yoba) form their country's first ever bobsled team to compete in the upcoming 1988 Winter Olympics. They enlist the help of a disgraced former Olympic gold winner (John Candy) to reluctantly coach them. Tonight's YKY episode is a feel good film, 1993's Cool Runnings. The true story of the Jamaican Bobsled team that competed in the 88 Calgary Winter Olympics. It stars John Candy (In his last film before he died 6 months later), and as the Bobsled team, Leon, Doug E. Doug, Rawie Lewis and Malik Yoba. At the time this was Disney's highest grossing live action film and while not high art, a fun movie that will make you smile. Did everyone feel that way? Watch and find out. This is the second installment of my continuous conversations with my friend Doug E Doug. Whenever I long for a truthful and honest conversation, a dialogue with no veneers, I turn to Doug. You may know him as Doug E Doug the actor and comedian but I look to him as a conversational breath of fresh air. There is very little hindrance or hiding within these conversations. Therefore I find our dialogues freeing and well needed for my soul, especially in a world filled of pseudo-pleasantries. Recording these talks felt less like a podcast and more like wire tapping a phone conversation between two friends. This podcast episode would make Edward Snowden uncomfortable. Doug and I have been having these type of conversations since lounging on the set of “Cool Runnings” back in the mid 90's. We discuss many things, our lives in show business, woke-culture, Queen Latifah and so much more. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rawle-d/message

His insights are very noteworthy and I often leave these conversations feeling enlightened and enriched. Our talks help to spark some of my own insights as I gain several new ideas perspectives. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/rawle-d/message

Oh, hey guys! This week I ask my friend and one half of the band The Midnight Screening, Chuck Herman to tell me all about the 1995 Disney classic, Operation Dumbo Drop. Were Liota, Leary, and Glover just here for a paycheck? Are Doug E. Doug and Doug E. Fresh the same person? How many elephants were sexually assaulted on set? Did Dennis Leary get an elephant addicted to cigarettes? Did this movie take place in Iraq? Can you still buy an elephant for $150? All these questions might get answered and of course, we don't spare the details! Follow me @thiscomicslife and Chuck @chuckimania on IG. New episodes out every Monday! Brofessor Jones and the Diggs are back for a new month and new theme!!! We are kicking off Winter Olympics month with 1993 classic: Cool Runnings. Why are the Olympics so good? It's time to continue our Winter Olympics month with the best possible movie to cover as Ben & Colin go back to 1993 and celebrate the amazing, the iconic and the legendary Cool Runnings! Why can we just gush over how amazing this movie is? How amazing is Doug E Doug and why hasn't he been James Bond yet? Does Ben even know who John Candy is? Why are so many kids just used randomly at the beginning of this movie for no reason? Why do hardly any people show up to the Jamaican Olympic trials? Why doesn't Junior recognise any of his competitors? Why is Sanka the best thing about this movie? Should That Darn Cat have received a higher rating on IMDB? Why do so many people in Jamaica find it funny that Jamaican sprinters could push a bobsled? Why do German accents never sound good in a positive situation? Why was this movie sold on Doug E Doug line dancing? Why is the random British dude in the meeting scared for his reputation? And why does Canada seemingly have limited technology in 1988? With so much to go over it's time to get yourself some pride, some power and be a bad ass mother who won't listen to any other podcast off of nobody!★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
Get on up! It's Bobsled time! That's right, darlings. This week we took a poll to see which cold weather movie was your fave and by a landslide, you guys chose Disney's 1993 hit Cool Runnings! Loosely (and we mean VERY loosely) based on the true story of the first Jamaican Olympic bobsled team! Derice Bannock (played by the solo monikered Leon) dreams of competing for Olympic gold on the Jamaican track team, just like his father. But when he is accidentally tripped by a fellow runner during the qualifying race, his dreams seem to be dashed forever. Until he realizes that he can still compete in the winter Olympics...if he assembles the first ever Jamaican bobsled team! Aided by his pushcart derby champ friend, Sanka Coffie (played by Doug E. Doug, remember him?), they recruit former bobsledding gold medalist, Irving Blitzer (played by John Candy) as their coach. They add the runner that tripped Derice to the team as well as the OTHER runner that that dude also tripped (man, that was one serious fall) and they are off to the races, so to speak. Now, our hosts have watched this movie in the past few years, so SPOILER ALERT, they already know how great it is. But do YOU? Join us and find out! And don't forget to RATE, REVIEW & SUBSCRIBE!

Things get exciting as we head to Jamaica to craft our own Bobsledding team! Oh wait, that's just the plot of Cool Runnings (1993). We both enjoyed this film, and saw it as a step up from our previous beloved family film — Space Jam. While not entirely historically accurate, this film captures the fun and spirit of the Jamaican bobsled team, while upping the drama just enough to make it work. We also pitch our ideas for Cool Runnings 2, and boy are they good.
On this week's episode, the 2017 Halloween Spooktacular takes a sick day with the ridiculously fun 90's slasher, Dr. Giggles! What's with this veteran cop wearing NFL merchandise? Who's responsible for that horrendous prop vanilla ice cream? How did this film never get a sequel—direct to DVD or otherwise? And what's with this kid and his mom's underwear? PLUS: Dr. Mario is actually just Mario Mario's 1970's drug dealer persona!Dr. Giggles stars Larry Drake, Holly Marie Combs, Cliff De Young, Glenn Quinn, Keith Diamond, Richard Bradford, and Doug E. Doug; directed by Manny Coto.Be sure to catch our live commentary over I Know What You Did Last Summer, October 27th at the Jacob Burns Film Center's fourth annual Halloween Marathon! Time for a new episode of Mousterpiece Cinema, friends! This week, Josh and Scott are going it alone again as they return to the scene of a very dastardly crime. Last month, the crime was that of a defenseless woman being abducted by two nefarious bank robbers; this month, the crime is that of a defenseless woman being abducted by two nefarious...people whose identities are obscured. That's right, we're talking about the 1997 remake of That Darn Cat on this episode of the show, and both Josh and Scott are amazed at how different so much of the film is aside from the title and very basic premise. Sure, there's a teenager (Christina Ricci) and an FBI agent (Doug E. Doug), but the original film didn't have warring mechanics, two nagging parents, a pair of doofus security guards, a wig-wearing butcher, and references to the films of Budd Boetticher! How much can be attributed to the film's writers, who also wrote Ed Wood and last year's American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson? Is this film an improvement on the original? Is there a way for Josh to shoehorn in political references this week? Find out now!
Actor Doug E. Doug stops by to discuss his films: "Cool Runnings", "That Darn Cat", "Shark Tale", "Operation Dumbo Drop" and Bill Cosby.
