A pair of best friends determine to leave behind their conservative families and societal expectations, and live by a new motto: By Myself, For Myself. What happens when one of those friends marries, and the other friend sees the new husband as a betrayal of their values? That's the premise behind British-Nigerian author Ore Agbaje-Williams debut novel, “The Three of Us.” The story plays out on a single wine- and whiskey-soaked afternoon, when the wife, husband and best friend Temi toy with the fine line between compromise and betrayal when it comes to themselves and the people they love.On this week's Big Books and Bold Ideas, Agbaje-Williams joins MPR News host Kerri Miller to discuss the power of female friendships, why her story had to unfold in a single afternoon, and how love and loyalty can shape our lives. Guest:Ore Agbaje-Williams is a British-Nigerian writer. “The Three of Us” is her debut novel. This week is an extra special episode, number 99, and for this one we are bringing on some of those that we talk about the most on the show, and given them a chance to set the record straight, our families. It's a long show, but broken into three parts, with three different cans. We had a blast talking with the kids, and hearing from our wives, and hope you get a kick out of watching this no-hold-barred family therapy session. We want your recommendations! What is your favorite canned beverage? We‘d love to have a taste and feature it on a future episode. Any additional suggestions, questions, or corrections you may have, we want to hear those as well! Make it personal! Send us a voice message: speakpipe.com/CannedConversation Or, hang-out with us on the inter-webs in all the usual places: Instagram / Facebook: @cannedconvo Twitter: @canned_convo Reddit: u/Canned_Conversation YouTube: Canned Conversation Email: cannedconvo@gmail.com Checkout the Complete List of Cans Featured on the Show: Canned Convo Beverages.pdf The Rating System: We rate each can and its contents on a scale of 0 to 5 stars. No half stars, we commit and stand by the full level we award. 5-Star: We love it so much, we rave about it to anyone who will listen, and actively hand them out to friends and family to try! 4-Star: We really like it, will proactively get more, and will keep some on hand to enjoy at our next social gathering. 3-Star: It's good, we like it, and equate it to our standard weekend selection. We won't go out of our way to acquire more, but will certainly have it again should the situation arise. 2-Star: It's not great. We will finish this can, but will part ways after, and will likely not meet again in the future. 1-Star: It's terrible. We won't be finishing the can, and will need another, better can, to wash the awful taste out of our mouths. 0-Star: It's so bad, it caused a visceral reaction that made us physically reject it's contents.

Oh no. I twisted my knee and felt a pop- did I tear my meniscus? Ugh, do I have to have SURGERY?? It seems like everyone knows somebody who has injured their meniscus. These injuries are quite common, and sports news media outlets cover meniscus tear stories in athletes voraciously. It seems like the athlete has a momentary injury where their knee buckles, they limp off to the sideline, and then we find out they will be out for the rest of the season for meniscus surgery and recovery. Is this the fate for everyone with a meniscus injury?Guess what?? We brought one of our FAVORITE PEOPLE and our mentor, Dr. Charles Bush Joseph to help demystify the meniscus! Chuck has been a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine for 25+ years. He is the former head team physician/surgeon for the Chicago White Sox (a position he held for close to 15 years), and is the past president of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine. Chuck is a kind, humble, wise (and often hilarious) physician who loves to teach, so let's soak up that knowledge! Topics in this episode include:What is the meniscus? Why do I need it?What kinds of ways can people injure their meniscus? How can I tell if a meniscus injury is acute or chronic?Does a meniscus tear need surgery? Why do I know so many people who have had meniscus tears/surgery?Can we prevent these injuries?Learn more about our good friend and mentor Dr. Charles Bush Joseph (aka Chuck, aka CBJ) HERE :)For more episodes, limited edition merch, or to become a Friend of Your Doctor Friends (and more), follow this link! Also, CHECK OUT AMAZING HEALTH PODCASTS on The Health Podcast Network(For real, this network is AMAZING and has fantastic, evidence-based, honest health information, and we are so happy to partner with them!) Have you ever seen someone carve soap into little figurines? Did you know you could carve soap like wood? In our story today, Sammy learns an important lesson about God in relation to soap carvings he created. Bible Text:"God spoke: “Separate! Water-beneath-Heaven, gather into one place; Land, appear!” And there it was. God named the land Earth. He named the pooled water Ocean. God saw that it was good. God spoke: “Earth, green up! Grow all varieties of seed-bearing plants, Every sort of fruit-bearing tree.” And there it was. Earth produced green seed-bearing plants, all varieties, And fruit-bearing trees of all sorts. God saw that it was good. It was evening, it was morning—Day Three.God spoke: “Lights! Come out! Shine in Heaven's sky! Separate Day from Night. Mark seasons and days and years, Lights in Heaven's sky to give light to Earth.” And there it was.God made two big lights, the larger to take charge of Day, The smaller to be in charge of Night; and he made the stars. God placed them in the heavenly sky to light up Earth And oversee Day and Night, to separate light and dark. God saw that it was good. It was evening, it was morning—Day Four.God spoke: “Swarm, Ocean, with fish and all sea life! Birds, fly through the sky over Earth!” God created the huge whales, all the swarm of life in the waters, And every kind and species of flying birds. God saw that it was good. God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Ocean! Birds, reproduce on Earth!” It was evening, it was morning—Day Five.God spoke: “Earth, generate life! Every sort and kind: cattle and reptiles and wild animals—all kinds.” And there it was: wild animals of every kind, Cattle of all kinds, every sort of reptile and bug. God saw that it was good.God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our natureSo they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.” God created human beings; he created them godlike, Reflecting God's nature. He created them male and female. God blessed them: “Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”Then God said, “I've given you every sort of seed-bearing plant on Earth And every kind of fruit-bearing tree, given them to you for food. To all animals and all birds, everything that moves and breathes, I give whatever grows out of the ground for food.” And there it was. God looked over everything he had made; it was so good, so very good! It was evening, it was morning—Day Six."
