After graduating from San Francisco State University, majoring in Mass Communications with an emphasis in broadcast media and writing for television, Asoniti relocated to Los Angeles and held several positions in the entertainment industry. Success was indeed the reward, as she quickly moved up the ladder to eventually write a couple of episodes on Will and Jada Pinkett Smiths' hit sitcom, “All of Us”. She also worked on a number of other sitcoms, including, One on One”, starring Flex Alexander and Kyla Pratt, “Second Time Around” starring Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kojo, and “Just Jordan” a Nickelodeon show. After the writer's strike, Asoniti began independently developing and filming various projects. While honing her skills in creating, developing, and producing, a new passion blossomed in her life, care for Alzheimer's patients. When both her grandmothers passed from the condition, she educated herself about it and planned to be proactive to an ignored class of patients. What she discovered was surprising and saw an opportunity to share her found information. With very little, to no material about why African American women are twice as likely to have the disease she knew it would be fitting to develop a documentary about it. So, she did, and it is titled, “Puzzled”. PUZZLED is an Alzheimer's awareness documentary that will focus on why women are more like to have AD and why African American women are twice as likely to have it than the national average. And this would only be accomplished working alongside her daughter. As a producer on the documentary, SONI FOSTER-JACKSON is a pre-teen, sassy, smart, socializer, currently enjoying school and extracurricular activities: art, skateboarding, dance, and music – playing the French horn. Although her career goal is to become a veterinarian, she is multi-talented in production and post-production with an eye for creative edits and attractive content. This live version of the classic 1991 film featured many a 90s star, including Treach, Gary Dourdan, Flex Alexander, Big Daddy Kane, and Allen Payne, who reprised his role as Gee Money. Claudette Ortiz from City High was also a pleasant surprise in the cast! Music veteran, Hip Hop Professional creator, and founder of the "Silence the Shame" movement, Shanti Das, joins The Brink of Midnight Podcast with John Brenkus. Shanti Das is a name popular with some of the most successful urban artists including Outkast, Usher, Toni Braxton, TLC, Jermaine Dupri, Prince, and L.A. Reid, among many others. She climbed her way to the top of music marketing working at La Face Records, Capitol Records, Arista, Columbia, and finally at Universal as their Executive Vice President of Marketing. She had it all going on, beloved by countless artists and music professionals, but no one really knew of the periods of darkness and depression Shanti would experience with her unprocessed feelings from her father's suicide. He is the middle child of Bishop and Annie Pecola Brown and he has an older brother Andre (Dre') and younger sister LaShawn. Both siblings play significant roles in his organization (Mgmt.). Kevin and his brother Dre created and produced "The Uptown Comedy Club" TV show that broadcasted on FOX 5 network for four seasons (1992-1995). "The Uptown Comedy Club" was located in the heart of Harlem on 125th St and experienced National success in the 80's and 90's. He managed, taught and worked with some of today's most successful comedians, i.e. JB Smoove of "Curb Your Enthusiasm", Flex Alexander of UPN's One on One, Tracy Morgan of NBC's 30 Rock and Chris Tucker of the " Rush Hour" franchise, to name a few. Kevin attended the T. Schreiber Studio for acting and comedy after his successful run with the Uptown Comedy Club. In the Urban community aka's and nicknames are common. Kevin referred to himself as "Big Kev" to distinguish his brand. Kevin later added "Dot Com" to his "Big Kev" moniker to differentiate himself from others who use the same title. At the "30 Rock" audition, upon entering the room, Tracy Morgan recognized his homie Kevin Brown whom he had not seen for eight years.
In this episode, Black Hollywood Live hosts Derrial Christon and DJ Jesse Janedy interview special guest Kyla Pratt. Since age eight, this young star has been radiating from our television sets. After getting her start in commercials for Nike, the California native soon became a popular face in the world of television. Having guest starred on numerous TV shows, Kyla got her biggest break in 2005 when she starred on two number one shows at the same time, Disney's The Proud Family & One on One alongside Flex Alexander. In addition to television, Kyla 's appeared in numerous films such as Dr. Doolittle, Fat Albert and the cult classic Love & Basketball. Currently, Kyla co-stars on the hit BET series Let's Stay Together, currently in it's fourth season. In August 2013, Kyla gave birth to her 2nd child and is currently balancing career and motherhood. This interview was recorded on April 25th, 2014.
