His raspy, sexy voice has been used for commercials and video games such as Grand Theft Auto and Need for Speed. A few years ago, during a stand up routine one of Brian's eyes started to go blurry and not soon after he was diagnosed with MS. Needless to say with COVID, the lack of work for all entertainers as well as SAG's new health insurance minimum annual income being raised from $16,000/yr to $25,000/yr (in the year of a pandemic) Brian has had to find other means for making money. He has started a fund me page on www.patreon.com/brianscolaro where those interested can enjoy his quick wit weekly for only $5.00 a MONTH! And the clips are hysterical. His new book How to Punch a Monkey can be purchased on Amazon for $12.99 and on Kindle for $9.99 and his new recording Then/Now can be purchased on iTunes. All worth it. I know. I bought them all. Donate if you can because Mr. Scolaro is worth every penny and much, much more! I hope you enjoy this interview as much as we did doing it. (EXPLICIT LANGUAGE and CONTENT)
Barry Katz is a modern day renaissance man. He is also funny as hell. Smart. Successful. Humble beginnings. I met Barry in high school, where we competed on swim teams from neighboring towns, then went on to compete together on the Boston University Swim Team. Barry's beginnings are inauspicious: he was a high school bully. A swim coach - who happened to be my AAU coach - spotted Barry serving detention one day and said 'kid, come swim with my team and I'll get your 9 million hours of detention wiped out.' Barry was officially born. He is a successful talent agent, helped jumpstart the careers of comedians Dave Chappelle, Tracey Morgan, Jay Mohr, Jim Breuer, Louis CK...need I say more? Hell, just that he worked with Jim Gaffigan is enough for me. He has brokered 100 TV development deals, Executive Produced over 50 television specials.... Barry got his career off to a start in Boston, as a student at Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Services at Boston University, and - well, you'll hear it here - made his way through the side door of the comic industry by good old hard work, taking risks and, ultimately, how he responded to a tragedy in his life.Listen up. Katzapalooza! Spectacular show with one of the most generous, gracious, informative, fun guests, ever. Barry Katz barely mentioned himself, it was all about how to help us, the listeners, still seeking. And, about others... those he respects, admires, and why he puts himself all in for those he believes in. He knows at the first handshake... hmm... wonder what he can tell from a hug. I loved every second of this. I cannot recommend spending your time here, enough. Whether you're in "the business," in real estate, a house painter, Lyft driver, be an A. Invaluable advice on moving forward from one who's living his dreams at the paramount of success. Barry Katz maps the path on this special edition of The Road Taken. Very little about Barry, he generously made it all about you, and me. How to get there, and win. From the amazing Will Lee, "Vicki, I'm glued to this Barry Katz episode more than the others I've seen & you've had some great ones! This is life-changing. Thanks for doing what you do. XXX" A little background since we didn't even scratch the Katz surface... did I mention I was born Vicki Katz... what towels we would've had. Barry owned the Boston Comedy Club in NYC, when I was a young (shuddup) standup. While I was messing around, Barry was nominated for an Emmy, and, is a Grammy-nominated tv-film-record producer, podcast host, and talent manager who helped launch the careers of Dave Chappelle, Nick Swardson, Darrell Hammond, Wanda Sykes, Frank Caliendo, Jim Breuer, Whitney Cummings, Bill Bellamy, Jay Mohr, Melissa Villasenor, Felipe Esparza, Jim Gaffigan, Tracy Morgan, Louie CK, Anthony Clark, Bill Burr, Marc Maron, and Dane Cook. Barry's brokered 100 tv development deals, created 3 tv shows, and executive produced over 50 different stand-up specials, documentaries, scripted Industrseries, reality shows, including 7 seasons of Last Comic Standing. There is SO much more to his story... current events for one, he hosts Industry Standard, his own wildly successful podcast, with 250 shows in the proverbial can. What a powerhouse, and what an encourager of others. I've "known" Barry kinda, a little, but I'm gonna hound this guy to be my friend. What a stupendous human. Excellent Executive Coaching: Bringing Your Coaching One Step Closer to Excelling
Dr. Katrina Burrus interviews a World Champion of Public Speaking: Darren LaCroix. You’ve been coaching professional speakers, corporate presenters, executives as far away as Ukraine, what do you see at the biggest mistakes more presenters make? How can presenters create Unforgettable Presentations? I know you teach experts to build their business through speaking, why do emphasize multiple streams of expert income? You talk a great deal about stories, why are stories so important in presentations? Who is Darren LaCroix Darren travels the world demystifying the process of creating a powerful presentation. His story has roused audiences in faraway places like Australia, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, China, Oman, Malaysia, and Taiwan with his inspirational journey from Chump to Champ. He is passionate about showing people that if you are a sponge and have the right mentors, anything is possible. Darren is currently the only speaker in the world who is a CSP (Certified Speaking Professional), an AS (Accredited Speaker), and a World Champion of Public Speaking. Darren always stresses, “Don’t go for the designations to get letters after your name; do it for the professional you will become in the process.” It says that in high school you were a quiet shy kid who dreamed of being a comedian, but you were considered “Least Likely to ever be funny”, you bombed in a Boston Comedy Club in Boston in 1992 and nine years later you outspoke 25,000 contestants from 14 countries to become the World Champion of Public Speaking…with a very funny speech! Det er en helt unik podcast der han prater med gjester som David Copperfield, Doug Herzog (Presidenten for Viacom Entertainment), Eric Tannenbaum (tidligere President for Columbia-Tri-Star TV and executive producer of Two and a Half Men), Warren Littlefield (tidligere styreforman for NBC/Executive Producer av Fargo), , Mario Kassar (producer av Terminator 2, Rambo, Basic Instinct), Susanne Daniels (tidligere President for MTV, the WB, and Lifetime), Tom Werner (producer av Roseanne, 3rd Rock from the Sun, That 70's Show) Steve Levitan (creator av Modern Family), Garry Marshall (Creator av Happy Days/Laverne og Shirley & director/producer of Runaway Bride/Pretty Woman), Dr Phil (# 1 daytime talk show host in syndication) og mange mange flere. Dean tells us about starring in and working on his first of many sketches for ESPN: from inception to airing & getting the cosign of "SUNDAY NFL COUNTDOWN" personalities, including Cris Carter, Keyshawn Johnson and Stephen A. Smith. He also shares stories about the Roast of Patrice O'neal at the Boston Comedy Club over a decade ago as The Stand comedy club prepares to screen the roast this Wednesday 12/2/15. RIP Big TreeZ! Go watch or listen to Patrice on youtube or cop "ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM", or "MR. P." or "UNRELEASED" or All of the Above! 4 years later we still miss ya...we're still holding you down, son...and Mr. P's spirit is still Mos Def In The Building!
While on the high seas, Dean sits down with comedian/co-headliner & good buddy, Pete Correale to reminisce about when they first began gigging on NYC's comedy scene. First Pete walks us through the process of writing his own sitcom and what having a network sitcom deal truly entails. Then he takes Dean down memory lane and shares some of his favorite stories that were born out of the hallowed ground of Greenwich Village, NYC that was The Boston Comedy Club. From smoking with the "HALF BAKED" duo of Dave Chappelle & Jim Breuer to having to do "Black Night" at the club as a New Jack. They also discuss a current popular topic regarding stand up comedy: Comedy purists that will only perform their own material vs. comics who employ a team of writers and both vets give their individual perspectives on the subject. It's been a while since Dean has had a guest on the show, so this week he decided to expand beyond the Living Room with this first of many new ROAD WARRIOR SESSIONS. We Still in The Building, son!
The Red Light Podcast is comprised of Christine Meehan, Ricki Sofer, Gina Savage and Tiffany Collado. The four women found themselves thrust together each week in the subterranean underbelly of the Greenwich Village Comedy Club discussing comedy (go figure), comedians, pop culture, men, sex, politics, love, life...and death. A natural, flowing rapport developed; with each woman bringing her own unique background, perspective and experience to the subject matter. It was mutually decided to take these weekly conversations to a wider forum. The result is The Red Light podcast which features all of the above topics and special guests (with special needs :) ). Our Bios: Christine Meehan is a stand-up and sketch comedian who got her start telling jokes in funky smelling rooms in Philadelphia. Now living in New York, Christine now has a serious fear of hookers, germs, and her mother. Despite these fears, she has written, produced and starred such sketch comedies as Akin to Rape & Paula's Pimpin' Pantry. A child of severely Republican parents, Christine had quite the proper small-town, conservative upbringing in Delaware but has been a contributor for the severely liberal Borderless News and Views. Her mom hates that. Joe Biden might think she has special needs. Christine has been seen at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and clubs all over New York City. She only truly finds magic while blowing her shoulders out coaching really large children gymnastics because God took her too literally when she asked to uplift America's youth. She hopes one day 'Merica will change, and stop eating entirely. Ricki Sofer is a stand up comedian currently living in New York City. Ricki started her comedy career in Los Angeles and has performed at the Hollywood Improv, Laugh Factory, The Comedy Store, Ha Ha club & The Ice House Comedy club. She has written her own column for Shavua Israeli- the most recognized Jewish mag in LA. Originally from Israel, Ricki is a graduate of Emek Izrael Film School and served in the Israeli military police in a special unit which allowed her to wear her own pink clothing line instead of the dreadful army uniform. She speaks English with a pretty good American accent, which confuses her audience, until her world views make it clear that she's definitely not from here. She talks about life situations that most people never encounter and definitely don't want to. Comparing where she came from to living in La La Land made her realize how an American life makes for a really good joke. Gina Savage is an actress, comic, producer & talent manager with a rich history in the entertainment business. Beginning in 1996 , she served as an assistant to Caroline Hirsch and Louis Faranda at Carolines. From there, she was recruited by Barry Katz to book and manage his highly regarded Boston Comedy Club. Later, Savage ventured into television production; working on reality shows "The Apprentice" and "The Contender". Today, Savage manages Al Martin's Broadway Comedy Club, Greenwich Village Comedy Club and New York Comedy Club. In her spare time (what spare time?) this native new yorker enjoys going to museums, walks in the park, strolls on the beach, Dalai Lama quotes and your undivided attention. Tiffany Collado may appear small and non-threatening, but challenge her to anything dealing with comedy and she's sure to shut most anyone down with her knowledge of the biz. Being a huge comedy fan and a waitress in the business for 5 years she's now chosen to pursue comedy herself. Her demeanor is aggressive, but that just stems from short bitch problems. Meh.
Comedian Capone was a hustler who traded in his ruggish-thuggish ways to become a successful entrepreneur and later metamorphosis the world of comedy as Capone. He has performed at a variety of venues such as New York's Caroline's Comedy Club, Uptown Comedy Club, Boston Comedy Club (noting just a few) and many college Universities. He has toured with N.Y. Kings of Comedy, Russell Simmons Def Comedy Jam in England and Shaquille O'Neal's All Star Comedy Jam in 2011 and 2012.Connect w/ Capone on twitter: https://twitter.com/ComedianCaponeWebsite: http://teamcapone.com/
