Happy Easter, gals and gays. Hope you're getting the eggs of your dreams or whatever. We've got a bit of a potpourri ep for you, with wedding talk, a couple of fun Science Newses, a dentistry update, and the soothing return of Blanket Fought. This episode's mistakes include: Squeamishness around natural bodily functions. Aggressiveness around astrology. Grumpiness around shirtlessness. Egregious factual inaccuracies. By the age of 60, you ought to be smart enough to understand these things. Time means more than money. And money is very meaningful. The people who matter most are few, but they matter a lot. Nobody else gets a vote on how you earn, spend or invest your money. It doesn't matter if they approve or disapprove. Unless they're paying! The cavalry isn't coming to save you from your past idiocy. Or your current idiocy. You have to figure it out for yourself. You matter - we all matter - but life isn't all about you. It's about the value you can bring to others. Be interested to be interesting. Don't take it personally and you'll avoid a boatload of problems. Pursue your ideal outcome and don't settle. Instead, adjust your ideal outcome if you want. It's your life. You can change your mind. When you speak, ask questions, then listen. (see #6) Distractions kill success. It's important to start, but it's more important to finish. Gratitude is always the path forward. Count your blessings on good days. Count them more feverishly on bad ones. Grumpiness only serves to make you a jerk. Avoid it by being kind. Behave so others are happy to see you and sad to part from you. Don't take yourself too seriously. You're not that important. Health is important. Don't stop investing in yours. Wealth is spending less than you earn. Generosity is always a wise choice. Complaining is useless. Nobody cares. Nobody wants to spend any time around complainers. So it's a great strategy if you want to be a reclusive hermit. Keep learning, growing and adapting. Resist any notion that you're too old. Be quick to repent - to change your mind by refusing to go back. Instead, move forward toward improved behavior, habits and higher character. As comedian Steve Martin said, “Be so good they can't ignore you.” Bonus: Keep chasing and catching your goals. Hot Springs Village, Arkansas is a village for change and growth. It's a great place where we can embark on a new journey. Inside Hot Springs Village we can take the time to reinvent ourselves. MID-SEGMENT GUESTS: Brad Watt Organization: Petra Capital Properties Part 2 of the 3-Part Series Why Old People are Grumpy The last episode explored how declining health might make seniors grumpy, especially since it's a life change that nobody signs up for. This second episode in our “grumpy series” highlights how simple things like less sleep and side effects of medications can seriously affect our moods. How do we combat normal reactions to these common issues? Bruce Bruinsma, founder of the Retirement Reformation, has the solution and has presented it in his new book Living the Fruitful Life. Producing spiritual fruit helps retirees to be proactive in their daily attitude when facing the problems aging might bring. Leaning into the Holy Spirit is key! Keep listening to hear more advice about Bruce's book. And along with this spiritual advice, Brad Watt joins to share some practical guidance on making the most of your assets. He and his company help seniors to walk through something called 1031 DST investment strategies, which essentially can set you up with a passive income stream using an asset you already own but don't use (like property). If this is something you might be interested in, contact Brad for more information. www.RetirementReformation.org

Isn't it very easy to be grumpy? I find it much easier to be grumpy than grateful. Grumpiness seems to be acceptable, but at its heart it is expressing dissatisfaction with what God has given us and is a sin that I know I need to repent of often! You can listen to the next part of Ecclesiastes as the preacher instructs us to rejoice and remember.

Willkommen in Kookhausen! In this short episode, you can learn how to instantly dissolve negative thinking and negative emotions.Once you have the hang of it, you can teach it to your kids to knock them out of entitlement and into gratitude.Every time you have a negative thought, turn it into a positive one—or find reality! For example, we can focus on being grateful for rain because the food we eat needs it, or focus on the plans we had and feel upset. This simple strategy neutralizes the identity that has ahold of us and is causing the negative experience and delivers us back to our innately grateful nature.Find your own examples that feel true for you because that's what causes relief from the pain of overreaction.1:51 Neutralizing negativity1:55 Examples: I wish it wasn't raining.I'm upset that they left an empty carton in the fridge.I'm upset that they backtalk. That driver is a threat because they're speeding. In the psychology world we call this "after school restraint collapse" but in real life this looks like your kid being a hot mess after school: Tantrums/meltdowns Grumpiness/moodiness Anger Yelling Refusing to listen This often happens because if you think about it, all day long, our kids are trying to holding it together. They try their best to keep their true, messy emotions to themselves so that they can do well in school/daycare and we love that for them. But what that often results in them feeling exhausted, overstimulated and drained when they return home, especially for kids who are adjusting to a new school, routine or longer school day. In this episode, I share exactly how to prevent and manage after school tantrums! Don't forget to check out my free discipline workshop, “How to Get Your Child to Listen Without Yelling” - www.themompsychologist.com/workshop

Dealing with a grumpy child after school can be hard work. You want to connect with them after being away from them for several hours, you want to find out how their day has gone, but instead you are met with grumpiness, aggression or meltdowns. In this week's episode I talk about why our children struggle so much after school or childcare and what you can do to support them. It is so important to understand what our child is trying to communicate in their difficult moments. They truly don't want to be grumpy or angry with us. They want to be loving and cooperative, that is their natural state of being. But holding it together all day in school is hard work. You are their safe person so when they see you, all the emotional upsets come tumbling out sometimes as tears, sometimes as grumpiness or aggression. Once we understand what is going on then the next step is how we can support our children to offload whatever big feelings they are carrying with them so they can get back to enjoying life. I share some tips and tools for you to use to connect with your child and support them with their feelings. Thanks for joining me.
