Wedding guest sues Florida caterer after allegedly being served marijuana-laced food According to a lawsuit, which was filed on Monday, Virginia Ann Tayor-Svoboda said she suffered "severe, permanent injuries" and became "immediately ill" after eating the food at the wedding. She alleged Joycelyn Bryan, who owns Joycelyn's Southern Kitchen Inc., was negligent in allowing marijuana into the food, and is seeking more than $30,000 in damages. She has demanded a jurat trial. The wedding took place on Feb. 19, 2022, at The Springs Clubhouse in Longwood, Florida. Seminole County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the venue after some wedding guests began to complain of stomach pains and vomiting. Some guests were taken to the hospital, officials said. Video from a deputy's body-worn camera showed a deputy ask the bride and groom if they authorized the catering company to put cannabis in the wedding food. One person responds "no, sir," while a woman appears to stare and does not respond. The bride, later identified as Danya Glenny, and the catering manager, Bryant, were both arrested and booked into jail on several charges, including tampering with food and delivering marijuana. Glenny, the bride, has pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to online court records. Bryant has also pleaded not guilty, according to online court records. A bride and her caterer in Seminole County have been accused of lacing wedding food served to guests with marijuana, according to arrest warrant affidavits. Around 30-40 people were at the venue and several complained of stomach pains and vomiting, authorities said. In two affidavits, authorities state that the bride and caterer have been charged with culpable negligence, delivery of marijuana, and violating Florida's Anti-Tampering Act, according to the outlet.

We explore how the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis have affected couples and caterers. We find out why it's called "a wedding breakfast" - even though the reception's rarely in the morning and ask what's happened to the traditional wedding cake. We also meet a chef who's campaigning to stop food waste and caters for weddings with food that would have been thrown in the bin. Presenter = Jaega Wise Producer = Rebecca Rooney

Duff is famous for baking and building thousands of big, bonkers cakes, like the giant R2-D2 robot cake he baked for Star Wars director George Lucas and a lifelike elephant cake that stood taller than him. So you know the Food Network star, and longtime owner of Baltimore's Charm City Cakes, baked his own wedding cakes. Cakes! Plural! Including a four-tiered meat cake topped with hot dog bride and groom. We'll learn the fascinating history of the wedding cake with Claire Stewart, author of As Long As We Both Shall Eat: A History of Wedding Food and Feasts. Duff grew up in a town that shares its name with a very popular food. We'll explore some of the country's most ridiculous (and tasty!) town names and, of course, reveal the name of Duff's hometown! Episode Notes A new weekly dictation to help learners of the English language to improve their listening comprehension. How to use: Don't look at the transcript (text) below. Listen to the podcast (the dictation is repeated twice) and try to write everything you hear down. Check your text with the text of the dictation. If any word is different, it is probably a listening comprehension mistake. Try to listen again to the word and repeat the pronunciation a few times. If you don't understand the word when you read it; it is probably new vocabulary. Listen to the dictation again. You should understand some of the words that you didn't understand before. (The dictations starts at 34 seconds, if you don't need the instructions) Transcript: Are you married? Did you spend a lot of money on food for your guests? One couple didn’t! Recently, on Facebook, a photo of the food at a wedding has gone viral. The pictures were taken by a bridesmaid. In the photo she criticizes the food. All they had on the plate were a packet of crisps, half a croissant, two cocktail sticks with tiny bits of cheese and fruit, as well as a small pot containing cucumber a carrot and baby tomatoes. Other people said that is exactly what they gave their babies to eat for lunch! Support Chuckle English by donating to their Tip Jar: https://tips.pinecast.com/jar/chuckle-english

NOTES:The quality (and price) of the meal is determined more by the caterer than by the type of service. I've had delicious wedding buffets by amazing caterers that would have been more expensive than a mediocre caterer that was serving a plated meal with lower quality food or service. Buffets could also end up costing more because it takes more food to accomplish it (you always need to replenish the buffet so it looks full and some guests will come back for seconds. You also need to rent serving dishes, as opposed to only needing 1 plate and serving per guest. So talk to different caterers and taste the food of your top 1 or 2 choices and remember what your priorities are in terms of taste, quality, and budget.

On episode 51 of The One Fab Day Wedding Podcast, we're going deep on a wedding-planning topic that almost every couple tells us is a top priority - the food and the drinks! Planning your wedding menu can be a real challenge - many couples aren't sure whether to take inspiration from their personal favourites or stick to crowd-pleasers, and then there are dietary requirements, wine allocations and late-night food offerings to think about! To tackle these questions and more, we're joined by Andrew Rudd, the executive chef and owner of Dublin venue Medley, who also looks after weddings and events at Ballintubbert House and Gardens in Co. Laois. As well as sharing lots of mouth-watering wedding food ideas, he's giving us a crash course on the world of wedding catering. Enjoy!Episode Breakdown: Wedding Food and Drink 101Wedding tip: Celina's tip this week is to keep your wedding cake design simple! If you're having a cake topper, ask your baker to focus the decoration on the lower layers of the cake, and remember that laser-cut cake toppers work better when they've got a long stem!Main topic: This week, we're talking wedding food and drink, covering such diverse topics as how to design the ultimate wedding feast, where to cut the budget, and how much wine to allocate per guest. Joining us in the studio is private chef and food writer Andrew Rudd of Irish venues Medley and Ballintubbert House and Gardens, who shares some of his favourite wedding food ideas, and answers lots and lots of our listeners' questions. Be sure to grab a snack before you hit play, because this episode makes for hungry listening!Wedding dilemma: A listener writes, “I was wondering if you'd have any advice for me - I'm getting married abroad later in the year. I was quoted crazy money for hair and makeup over there, so I decided to ask my hairdresser and makeup artist from home to come, as covering her flights, accommodation and fee is still less than the quotes I got. I'm meeting her next week to discuss details and just want to be as prepared as possible. What would you think needs to be covered and paid for by us? And I don't want to have a legal contract with solicitors but I do want some sort of agreement so that I know I can depend on her - would you have any advice on this? ” Our advice for this listener is to expect to pay for flights, accommodation, transport and meals, and potentially extra checked luggage, but to discuss this with your hairstylist and makeup artist well in advance, and to follow up any conversations in writing by email.Something to do when you're not planning your wedding: In this episode, Celina's raving about essential oils! Thanks for listening! Standing outside waiting for an artisan burger or other gourmet food items may seem like an odd thing to do. If you have participated in the food scene at all in the past five years you have gotten used to that idea and almost prefer it in some cases. This Dallas born food guru has been involved in the NWA food/food truck/catering scene for a long time. Bringing with him from Dallas the stylish concept of gourmet in-home high-end dinners, he began...and the rest is...in the episode. Please listen in as Brent Hale tells his food journey and how he got things rolling. (can you see the food truck reference there) you are sure to enjoy his not so serious approach to a serious food style.

We are privileged to get to know this pioneer in the North West Arkansas catering scene. She entered the world of service and has been sailing ever since. When she started she recognized the need for a great caterer, the rest is history. We were so glad to discuss the Working "on" and the working" in" of a business. This balancing act is hard for owners to master. Shellie has succeeded, keeping this company going and growing has been at the front of her priorities. the dedication she shows is obvious. you might see her running the show, you might even catch her washing up the dishes. She is too great of an owner not to be willing to do it all.
Welcome to the table. Kim Henderson from Heritage Catering joins us for a heart warming conversation about her family, her work and most importantly her dream fulfilling venture. NOTES: Ask your catering company how many servers they normally provide for a wedding your size. Depending on the type of service, a rule of thumb is having 1 server per 10-12 guests for a plated dinner. If you're having a family style meal, you could be closer to 1 per 15. However, this ratio could change if you're serving multiple courses and wines throughout the evening, which would require more servers per guests.

NOTES:Make sure you confirm with the caterer if you can add any late RSVPS after you give them your final catering guarantee. The guarantee is usually due 2 weeks to 10 days out from your event because the caterer has to buy all the ingredients. After this point, you cannot decrease your guest count from this number. You also cannot increase your guest count by more than certain percentage. Usually it's 3-5% of your final guarantee. So if you guarantee for 100 guests, you can only add 3-5 people on the day of the wedding. If your family is the type to bring extra guests, make sure you account for this. The caterer can't serve a plate of food from ingredients they don't have.
In this episode, Katie and Steffen talk about all things Catering and some things to think about when planning the […]
NOTES:At your tasting with the caterer, take pictures of each dish so you can reference them later. You might forget a dish's composition later on and need a refresher. It's also useful in case there's a question about whether the food the caterer served at the wedding is the same as what you tasted. This can easily clear up any discrepancies.
Today's episode was inspired by questions from our amazing listeners about FOOD. So, we broke down just about every wedding food aspect of the day to create this Definitive Guide to Wedding Food.
