Andrew Smyth is a man who describes himself as a ‘Bakineer’ and is presenter of a very exciting show called ‘Baking In Space’ which returns as part of Science Week 2020. However, the man from Co. Down first came to fame as a finalist on one of telly’s biggest shows...'The Great British Bake Off'. Since his time in the tent, he has worked with Discovery Science, the BBC and with Lorraine on ITV also managing to find the time to bake a rotating jet engine cake for Prince William! All this while working his day job as an Engineer for Rolls-Royce and using his baking to bring young people into Science. Baking and Space travel whaaaa? Well - What does the principle behind Baked Alaska and Space shuttle travel have in common? The air pockets in the meringue insulate ice cream from the heat of the oven in a similar way to how silicon fibres in space shuttles protect astronauts from heat in the atmosphere. [audio mp3="https://media.radiocms.net/uploads/2020/11/15124026/WB-1511-BAKE-OFF-ANDREW-SMYTH-SCIENCE-WEEK.mp3"][/audio] Although there was one question we forgot to ask... Erm... Can you prevent a soggy bottom on re-entry to the atmosphere?? HOW TO WATCH: His show is called ‘Baking In Space’ and is co-presented by Andrew and Dr. Niamh Shaw - it is all part of Science Week and the last showing is tonight @ 7pm. Here’s something I never thought I’d say: you can absolutely go from entrepreneur to a millionaire CEO in four steps. And they’re four pretty easy steps. They just take a lot of YOU to get them done. But YOU are awesome. So, let’s smash this. What is the difference between being a lifestyle entrepreneur and being a 7-figure CEO? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.At least, there doesn’t have to be. A lifestyle entrepreneur is defined as “an individual who creates a business for the purpose of changing their lifestyle instead of making profits.” But we are not definitions in a dictionary, are we? Hell, no. As someone who spent nine years as a lifestyle entrepreneur, I’ll say it again: HELL NO to that. And I say it in my UNTAPPED podcast this week too. Here’s why: there is no reason why you can’t have your cake, and eat it. Yes, you can focus on your lifestyle, work 20-25 hours a week, and spend the rest of your time exploring the city you’re in. But you can also make a (BIG) profit if you operate a great business, and you’re clear on your intentions.I know that as a lifestyle entrepreneur I wasn’t taking myself as seriously as I could have, and there were certain steps I had to take to scale my business. Because, honestly…why couldn’t I have the mindset of a 7-figure entrepreneur, and do it while keeping my lifestyle in mind?Besides the profit you can make in your business (did I mention it’s big?), this mindset also helps you achieve the things that keep your soul fed. You’ll hire people, improve lives, and make the impact you want to make. So, how do we shift that mindset, and get all the juicy millionaire entrepreneur goodness flowing? We cover a lot of this in the $10K Club - our beautiful community of womxn entrepreneurs. You can join the $10K Club here (aka the most unapologetic badass ladyboss club out there). In this episode we uncover: What millionaire business-owners do really wellWhat an integrator is and why you need one, like, yesterdayHow systems can help you kick ass in true YOU styleHow to be memorable (because when people remember you, that’s when the magic happens)Why it is so important to hang out with a certain kind of personResources:Want to become a Lifestyle Entrepreneur, read my bestselling book The Suitcase Entrepreneur: Create freedom in business and adventure in lifeWant to take that to the next level, buy my bestselling book The Freedom Plan: Work less. The idea is that every level relating to the focus person is present during their review.Ex. Supervisor, client contact, someone with whom you worked with on a specific project, etc. The focus person:Determines the members of the performance review (who is there to give the review)Parameters - top 5 people the focus person works with mostSets a date and time for the performance reviewProposes a neutral facilitatorGives the members of the performance review access to relevant documents (previous improvement plans, role description, B.A.R.T. etc.) The Members of the Performance Review (Feedback Circle): Review documentsCome up with an improvement planUtilize Understand-Explore-Decide ModelPrior to the Meeting: UnderstandThe role of the focus personOther relevant data - reports/evaluations from other sources During Performance Review: UnderstandPrior to performance review, group reviews job description and previous improvement plansDid WellThe Focus person then speaks about what they have done well in areas of production or service, process, and interpersonal interactionThen each person in the feedback circle shares their perspective on what the person has done wellEx. I appreciate your voice in XYZ meetings. What you say always seems to add to the discussion. I very much admire how you always pass when you do not have anything new or relevant to say. To me, that just makes your voice more valuable because you seem to choose wisely what needs to be said without taking yourself too seriously. The Focus person speaks last, and summarizes what they have heard from the circle→ *Feedback on what a focus person has done well is an implicit request to continue or do even more of what they do well.ExploreImprovement Areas/Could Do Better**This is not yet where anyone provides “solutions” - this is an opportunity to share where there could be areas of improvement, not how we want these areas to be improved. Examples:CommunicationResponse time to emailTech supportPublic SpeakingFlex TimeCan also improvement where we want to see more of something the focus person is doing wellEx. Very good at training staff on XYZ skill - organize more workshops for organizationAgain, the Focus Person Speaks FirstThen group sharesImprovement PlanConversation - Proposal IdeasHow would you like to see improvement in the areas described in the “do better” conversation Make it specific and doable. Examples:I’d like you to respond faster to email, within 24-48 hours. I’d lve to hear from you whether there is a way to organize that in a way that would work for you. You’re a great resource for tech help, I’d like to see you bring that in more. I am also concerned about overloading you with work. I’d like for you to reserve 2h per week for that and be intentional about not doing more. If we find out it takes more time, we can look in to maybe hiring someone for that, as we don’t want to only rely on you for tech support, as we want to use all of your skills well.Since you mentioned public speaking as an area for improvement, I suggest you commit to doing 3 public speaking events by the end of the year and get more coaching to support that. Improvements can also affect more than one person and need to be addressed elsewhere, ex:We hae identified flex time as an issue. Since that seems to be a bigger issue that affects the wider organization, I’d like to send this to XYZ department to look at. Let’s revisit their thoughts on this on X date.OR maybe the improvement areas result in a change in role description. Ex:I’d like to modify your role to include more IT support work. DecideImprovement Plan Write-UpThe focus person organizes the proposal ideas into an improvement plan documentCan be done within the meeting or after the meetingGroup decides be consent on the final improvement plan review QuestionsIt feels overwhelming to take on the whole culture of an organization. When you aren't in a leadership position, it can also feel intimidating. I have never worked for an organization that had a good process for employees to provide feedback about what is going well, what is challenging, what could be improved, etc Mel’s Mindful Minute:38:35Everyday Mindfulness Exercise - washing dishes, laundry, brushing teeth, etcWe Are Always StudentsMany Voices, One Song by Ted Rau and Jerry Koch-GonzalezWww.Sociocracyforall.orghttps://www.sociocracyforall.org/?s=performance+reviewsNonviolent Communication by Marshall B. Nutrition can be confusing. It seems every six months we hear of new eating plans and diets and lions and tigers and bears, oh my.Adding to the noise is how, exactly, do we get quality food in our teen athletes? Do they need to eat differently? And how do we encourage them to actually eat what is best for them to perform and recover well?I'm beyond excited to share my conversation with Roberta Anding today. Roberta is a sports dietitian and has so many letters after her name I don't even know what they all mean.Currently, Roberta serves as the sports dietitian for the Houston Astros, Rice University athletics, and Baylor College of Medicine Corporate Programs. In our last +1, we talked about being the change we want to see in the world. I asked: What change DO you want to see? (Well… What is it?! And… Are you being it?!) That makes me think of another 20th century icon: Mister Fred Rogers. In his great little book The World According to Mister Rogers, we get to immerse ourselves in a collection of wisdom-gems from the great man. Including this one: “The values we care about the deepest, and the movements within society that support those values, command our love. When those things that we care about so deeply become endangered, we become enraged. And what a healthy thing that is! Without it, we would never stand up and speak out for what we believe.” Mister Rogers “enraged”? Yep. You want to see his fierce courage in action? Watch this 6 minute, 50 second video of him testifying before congress. Note: Please make sure you notice how he channeled that rage into pure love. Notice how pure love broke through the armor of a hitherto harsh foe. (I’ll be surprised if you, like the Senator in that hearing, don’t get goosebumps (and/or tears) FEELING the soul force of Fred Rogers standing up and speaking out for what he believed in and dedicated his life to.) What’s fascinating for me is how similar Fred’s approach is to Gandhi’s. As we discussed, one of the primary themes of that book is Gandhi’s evolution/transformation in which he learned to alchemize his anger into an unstoppable “soul-force.” He did this via what he called “satyagraha.” Satyagraha is a word he coined combining two Sanskrit words. It basically means “holding onto truth” and is the foundation of his (and MLK’s) “nonviolent resistance” to evil. So... What values do YOU care about the deepest? What movements within society support those values and command your love? Are those values endangered? If so, let’s become enraged and celebrate the power of that emotion as we alchemize that fierce love into noble action—standing up and speaking out for what we believe.

"The Red Angel" Well? What did we all think of the big reveal? Did anyone call it? We didn't. With all we knew, we were screaming though the whole episode is that there is no way it can be Burnham. Why not? Well unless you are a whole different Burnham from another universe, you can't save your childhood self from being killed. That being said, there were so many wonderful moments in this episode. Somber, funny, exciting, painful…just to name a few. Have a listen and see what the Dads thought of this whole situation. Wow! Seventy three episodes and I'm finally talking about what Emotional Savvy means. You know that "to be savvy" means that you know what's up and what's going on. You're awake, aware, and alert. You're "with it!"Great! You may have the practical knowledge, but it's not much use if it's not applied. Relationships require emotional savvy. Otherwise, you don't make good judgments. You don't see what's really going on, and maybe prefer denial. Not much emotional savvy there, right?Emotional savvy covers all areas that impact our emotional lives: mental, intellectual, spiritual, financial, health, well-being, relationships--everything that impacts making our way in the world. So, some good things to think about in the first segment, for sure!GUEST: Kerri Hummingbird, SoulGuideKerri Hummingbird has served as a social activist, leader, and philanthropist for over three decades. She is the founder of the Skills Not Pills Movement, and Host of the Soul Nectar show. Ms. Hummingbird inspires people to lead their lives wide awake, with an authenticity, passion, and purpose that positively impacts others. She catalyzes mind-shifts that transform life challenges into gifts of wisdom with her Reinvent Yourself programs for individual and group mentoring. What does discipline mean? In just one word: ‘training’. No. 10 is all about training. How to train your children to be in charge of their actions, character and emotions. Its learning the difference between punishment and consequences. To help out I’ve got some really great practical tools to help you in your training:Three step guide to training the right behaviour,8 Great tools to change and train good behaviour,10 ways to administer consequences wellWhat is the goal? The goal is to produce a child who is self governing and has self control. About knowing which action will bring the best result for them and for those around them Training your child, who even though they are tempted to do the the wrong thing, will dig deep and have the inner strength and resolve to do the right thing.
We don’t want to think about it but I’m sure lots of us do. What happens if/when we blow our knee? what does it mean when that happens, what are the mechanics that contribute to it; what choices need to be made for treatment and recovery? There are many things today to consider, and today, Brian Harder, a frequent guest and good friend of mine shares his philosophy, sadly, from personal experience. Earlier this year, Brian had an ACL injury in the backcountry. Being an orthopedic physician assistant and therefore medically trained, Brian brings some interesting and debatable albeit a scientific approach to dealing with a ruptured ACL. We’ll discuss factors that led to the incident and lessons to perhaps avoid your own. Hint: that GoPro on your head might have more consequences than you realize. We’ll analyze the incident itself and best practices for getting your sorry ass out of the backcountry without making the problem worse. After that, many decisions must be made: surgery immediately or later? What type of graft? How should I choose the right surgeon? Please note, although medically trained, this is obviously not medical advice. We all present unique factors and unique cases. Brian says so himself in the show - these are his opinions in a sea of opinions. You know we all have two things in common and one of those is opinions. You should do your own due diligence and discuss your specific case. Many would disagree with his thoughts here, while others would agree. Also, for context, Brian is 56 at the time of the recording. Well? What did you think? Agree? Disagree? have questions? we’d love to hear your experience - what worked for you, what you might have done differently. please include your age and fitness level when yo do. If you have questions, you can contact me privately or include it in the comments at takeabigleap dot com/ ACL With that, let’s listen in and gear up for what’s next: Where to find Brian: Instagram - brian.skimolife Blog You can find Brian at skimolife.com and on instagram at brian.skimolife

I dont talk about it because I use to be a "drama queen" and bipolar sounds really bad, even if they can kinda get what type 2 is in comparison to type 1. some say I'm just emotional. also I'm sure it contributes to my illnesses, and others may think I am faking it BECAUSE I use to be dramatic.Does the fact that your disease is invisible change how healthcare professionals treat you? *Of course, but not just because they are invisible but even blood tests and scans don't really show anything, so empirically I am "fine"What is your best coping mechanism? *Meditation and exercise when I can and generally having good people around me who understandWhat are you the most fearful of and hopeful for in the future? *I am scared of degeneration as I grow older, pregnancy and post-partum as wellWhat is your favorite swear word?FUCK =)Is there anything you *don't* want to talk about? Is there a subject we should avoid during the interview? *My bipolar? Is there anything you want to make sure we talk about during the interview? Like an organization you want to promote or something specific that you deal with.wellacopiaAny questions you think we should add to this list?I guess this is too lateWhat is the hardest and/or best lesson your condition has taught you?your illness doesn't define you - or you can let it but only for the better See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Gems in the 1 John Part 106 - 1 John 2:12-14 Who was left out? Now for something completely different! John was writing for his age and generation so his 6 reasons for writing are all directed to males. I am sure that had he been writing in the 21st century instead of the 1st he would have directed some of his comments to females as well. Otherwise more than half his listeners and readers would have switched off! All we can do is try to help him out. I have done so by writing 6 paragraphs that he might have written in our day and generation – so different in many ways from his and even the one that the older ones amongst us grew up in. This time, therefore, you have more to do than just read what I have written. Your tasks are these: 1. Do you agree? 2. Which would you accept into a modern scripture? 3. Can you think of any better ones that you think should be included? Here are my efforts: I am writing to you, mothers and grandmothers, because you are the basic foundations of your families and play such a huge role in its success or failure. I am writing to you older women, because you tend to be the prayer warriors who support your local churches most. I am writing to you single women, because on you falls the greatest pressure of our rapidly changing cultures, particularly in relation to sexual behaviour, the development of relationships and the new family structures that are emerging. I am writing to you single women, because you have such an important role in society in relating to children and the ill as teachers and nurses and in your personal skills in the workplace. I am writing to you school girls, because you have such a difficult time resisting the onward and downward march of modern cultures I am writing to you school girls, because you have to decide what of the wisdom of the ages you should keep in the face of so many developments in sexual behaviour, celebrity based culture and communication technology. Well? What do you make of it? Where else is there a great need to write to women and girls? Where else are the main difficulties they face in life, perhaps different ones from those us guys have to cope with? Think, pray and learn.
