(NSFW) In this lively episode, the crew dives into a mix of nostalgia, creativity, and celebration. The legendary Randal the Enamel Remover makes a comeback in conversation, and Ed proposes an intriguing blend of stout and sour beers. They review the Hockey Czech! Pilsner from Goldwater Brewing Co. and reflect on the bittersweet end of the Arizona Coyotes and Grand Canyon Brewing's Kachina beer, with Nate and Ed expressing their stages of grief over these losses. They discuss the layoff of Cigar City Brewing workers in Tampa by the newly created Monster Brewing. They ponder whether Ballast Point, now brewed by Kings and Convicts, is making a comeback in the craft beer world. The episode also highlights the 2024 World Beer Cup winners, including local favorites like Goldwater Brewing, Pedal Haus, OHSO Brewing, and 12 West Brewing. Ed reads off other category winners. Finally, Ed poses the question of which event holds more prestige: GABF or the World Beer Cup, and floats the idea of hosting their own HCPC Beer Awards. Joe's Real BBQ opened in 1998 and is still making BBQ lovers rejoice. Meats are smoked with pecan wood in three J&R 700 Oyler Pits, and rubs are mixed to complement each one, such as a savory rub for brisket, and a sweeter rub for ribs. Twelve homemade sides are offered, with BBQ pit beans and mac ‘n cheese being perennial top sellers. Wash it all down with homemade root beer or Joe's signature BBQ Beer, a pilsner made by local 12 West Brewing. Indulge in desserts like seasonal cobblers with fruit from Joe's farm at Agritopia.

This week we chat with Luke Scott who has just announced that, after 13 years, he is leaving the Prickly Moses brewery in Victoria's Otways. Luke leaves his current role to join start-up Sou' West Brewing in the old Quicksilver building on Victoria's Surf Coast. Luke is one of those brewers who has seen a lot of his change over his 13 years at the brewery, one that you may not even have heard of if you're not from Victoria, and that's because the business has changed focus as the industry has grown from 100 breweries nationally to somewhere around 500. Luke has seen the business move from a brewery looking for national markets, to a locally focused brewery catering the community. We hear what he has learned and seen change as the craft brewing industry he entered has changed. We also hear about what he has planned for the new venture. It’s been an interesting week for baseball and the unwritten rules of the sport. So the Scott cracks some Hatchet Job (KCBC), Drew pops some Dunkel Donut (The Alementary Brewing Co.), and Mike chugs some Pineapple Sour (105 West Brewing) and they rate their beers on the unwritten rules of baseball scale: from stepping on the mound on the way back to the dugout all the way up to bat flips. On Deck: Drew talks naked soccer overseas. Mike gets into Melo giving TNT censors headaches. And Scott gives an NBA bubble update including Jimmy Butler making bank on his french press machine and the Hornets announcer with an “autocorrect issue” for the ages. Stick to Sports: The fellas talk NBA playoff updates, and Kawhi’s place in the GOAT conversation. They break down the drama in the Cleveland clubhouse, with Plesac and Clevinger putting the entire team at risk of a COVID outbreak. And they touch on the B1G waffling about their fall schedule and Rose Lavelle signing with Man City. Do That Hockey: Scott answers the tough questions and Mike tries to pronounce the tough names. Cafeteria Bullies: The fellas roast baseball and all of the dumb unwritten rules. Spittin’ Fire: Mike does a dramatic reading of Dame’s latest track that he dropped from the bubble, “Live From the Bubble.” Be sure to check out our sponsors: Beer Drop (bit.ly/beerdrop) ships award winning craft beer directly to your doorstep. After a long weekend featuring 11 picks and another 12 college free agents, Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin was kind enough to join us for a live BBP event at Fifty West Brewing company on Monday night. We run through the background and perspective on all 11 picks, discuss the dynamics of making (and not making) draft weekend trades, best picks, asking Tobin to explain himself and primary takeaways from this draft weekend. Plus, an appearance from Optimistic Bobby and Q&A session with Tobin that includes questions about John Ross, PFF, best and worst pick of his career and monitoring vaping. Thanks to all who came out, Fifty West for hosting and everyone for following along through the BBP during the entire draft season.
New Brew Review is a bi-weekly bonus podcast. Each episode a new reviewer from the world of craft beer will try a new brew they have never had before and share what they think of it with you in a bonus podcast. As the reviewer should be trying a new beer, and recording at the same time we hope to capture a very honest review. Not what they hoped it would be or thought it should be. As a note the review does not necessarily reflect those of the Hoppy Craftsmen, but are those of the reviewer. After a brutal weekend, the fellas crack some Coast to Coast IPA by 50 West Brewing and commiserate about the Cincinnati sports curse. In true broken fan fashion, they talk about what is the best way to lose a game and the future of Xavier’s Chris Mack, get into the news about the Alliance of American Football announcement from this week, and make fun of MLB for their plan to play games in London. And Mike pays up on another punishment and battle raps Lou the Dog. In Upper Deck, we find out about an interesting lawsuit in Atlanta, just how slow Southwest Airlines customer support is, break down the dumbest bet ever made, discuss the strange circumstances around Michael Bennett’s felony indictment, talk about the Big 3 League hiring the first woman head coach, and laugh at CBS showing crying kids.
In this episode along with co-host Chris Dodson I sit down with Noel Garcia, co-founder of 12 West. We talk about how his obsession for making quality beer and unconcerned approach to what some people may consider failure has helped 12 West become on of the hottest and most revered breweries in the state. Enjoy the show!

(NSFW) The Hoppy Craftsmen sit down with Noel Garcia, co-owner and head brewer at 12 West Brewing in San Tan. We discuss how early home brew failures turned into great beers, and an even better brewery. Noel talks about how he likes brewing beer he likes to drink, and pushing those beer styles just a little to see what happens. We learn the origins of one of 12 West’s most popular beers, and why there seem to be so many Rick and Morty references among their beers. Our old friend the Dutch Rudder returns, but this time in the form of a four-man team. Noel schools us on what advice he would give to anyone planning to take on the tremendous task of opening a brewery. He explains how culture here at 12 West means not only being part of the Agritopia community, but meeting and talking with regular patrons as well. We talk about the pros and cons of selling out to the 800 lb gorilla. Last but not least, the Craftsmen have to clear the air about an undeserved review that a local paper published about 12 West Brewing. This week we forget how many weeks are in October. Rather than miss another week David, Josh, and Christine record an experimental pod outside one of our favorite breweries. We follow up on the movies we were looking forward too from the fall movie preview and reveal our Halloween costumes. There is a lot of ambient noise I wasn't able to remove without losing significant quality so just consider it part of the authentic brewery experience. Beers of the week are the various beers we enjoyed from 105 West Brewing in Castle Rock Colorado.
