Helloooo, and welcome to Season 8 of Mads World! You're about to listen to Role Modelling: Pageantry & Feminism with Ms Great Britain, Charlotte Clemie! This week I am joined by regining Ms Great Britain, Charlotte Clemie. Recently crowned as Ms Great Britain, Charlotte spoke proudly as a finalist about her platform, 'Raising Great Brit-men'. Having 3 sons, Charlotte wants to encourage other mums to educate their sons and raise a future generation of feminist men. Charlotte was raised in Northern Ireland by two feminist mothers and now embraces being a part of an industry that supports women to talk about their passions. Charlotte is a 'girls girl'. In her twenties she was successfully cast as the official real life Barbie for the toy company Mattel. She worked as Barbie for 5 years and travelled across the UK at various events. Charlotte dreamed of one day having a daughter to pass down her Barbie memorabilia but it wasn't to be. Charlotte is now the proud mother of 3 young boys. It was after having her third son that she realised she had a greater power to make a difference to women. And so her platform 'Raising Great Brit-men' was born. Charlotte is a proud feminist, and although some might say that's somewhat contradictory as a 'pageant queen', you don't have to speak to Charlotte for long to understand why she does what she does.In this episode we talk all about feminism in pageantry, what Charlotte loves most about pageants, where her journey with feminism began and how we can encourage young people and the next generation to become future feminist leaders. Helloooo, and welcome to Season 8 of Mads World! You're about to listen to Ways of Womanhood: Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome with Ally Hensley! This week I am joined by author, speaker, ghost-writer, content creator and stigma shaker of the best kind, Ally Hensley. As a teenager, Ally Hensley discovered that she had been born with a rare condition, Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome (MRKH), resulting in the absence of a womb and a vagina. Discovering her infertility just months after her sweet sixteen, Ally had a job to do: create a vagina from scratch. What followed, was a life of destruction, abuse and, as she says, a societal head-tilt asking, “do you look like Barbie down there?”After recently writing her debut memoir about sexual hang-ups, bad date blunders, and relearning what school never taught her, she decided to smoke out the shame, by telling her story to the world. Now, Ally is on a mission to debunk the myths around what it means to be a woman. In this episode, we discuss what MRKH is, the options presented to those with the syndrome, the feelings that one might experience after diagnosis, MRKH and fertility, the importance of options and what it can mean to be a woman. Helloooo, and welcome to Season 8 of Mads World! You're about to listen to The Queen of Breakups: Love-Affair Friendships, Political Lesbianism & The Joy of Heartbreak Rosie Wilby! This week I am joined by award-winning comedian, podcaster, speaker and journalist, Rosie Wilby. Rosie regularly appears on radio and TV commentating on sexuality, dating and love and was dubbed ‘the Queen of Breakups' by BBC Radio 4 following the success of her podcast and book: The Breakup Monologues. She has extensively explored heartbreak in her podcast, in her hugely successful comedy shows, and in her first book, Is Monogamy Dead? Which was shortlisted for the Diva Literary Awards and longlisted for the Polari First Book Prize. She has written for publications including The Guardian, Sunday Times, and New Statesman, and has performed at major festivals including Glastonbury and Latitude. In 2011, Rosie was dumped via email. Obsessing about breakups ever since, she embarked on a personal quest to investigate, understand and conquer the psychology of heartbreak. Part memoir, part investigation, The Breakup Monologues takes on the big questions about our life-changing separations in the modern age of ghosting, breadcrumbing and conscious uncoupling. In Rosie's trademark immersive, investigative form, the self-styled ‘lesbian Louis Theroux' puts her own relationship under the microscope in a ‘sex lab' and explores how a split parallels the effects of withdrawing from a drug, why friendship breakups can feel like the worst endings of all, how polyamory changes the conversation about commitment, how breakups can sometimes be empowering and lead to exciting new life journeys... and how ultimately they can even help us to stay together. In this episode we discuss the joy of breakups and embracing life after a breakup, love-affair friendships and friendship breakups, political lesbians and queerbaiting, and much more.
