Ep 12: Queens For Black Lives Matter

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 18, 2020 66:57

Intro- Queens Fight because Black Lives Matter I share my grief over the murder of black men and women in this country My personal familial white-washing of our African ancestry deeply affected me How can you take action? Financially support organizations like  Black lives matter Blackoutday2020 Boycott white-only owned companies and products Vote for black men and women in every level of government Defund the policy Teach your children history, literature, and science from BIPOC curriculum Speak out against racism and white privilege at your family dinner table Go out of your way to shower love on black people Read and learn about your own privilege. Your own racism. Just because you don’t actively hate, doesn’t mean you’re not racist. You are born into a racist system. You don’t just one day say “I’ve looked at my privilege, I acknowledge it, I’m not racist.” You are called to reckon with your own racism daily, just as your body needs to expel its own waste daily. Rev. Dr. Brook Brimm interview Metaphysical practitioner and spiritual guidance counselor for women.  “I teach yoga and movement meditation.” I speak to the joys, struggles, and triumphs of women of color How important is it to grow up knowing that you have a powerful voice that deserves to be heard? My program: Release the UnYou, Live as the Real You Examine your basic wants, then your expectations (what was expected of you at home, school, community?) Trying to figure out what you like and what you want, can be a struggle for black women Some of the effects of slavery are still there: don’t use your voice, walk the straight line, do what you’re told, take care of others, do what other people want, don’t tell the family secrets If you’re repeatedly growing up with that, then as a grown woman, you may find you don’t know who you are, how to use my voice, and I’m repeatedly abused and taken for granted. Mainstream women are mostly white women, and I can’t speak to their childhood or what their freedoms were to speak up or share their stories, but they’re still women. My work is to look at the legacy of slavery keeping women’s voices down, and help them move past that expecation.  Very similar theme with Latina women, because of colonialism, your identity as a woman is tied to that of colonialism.  Other aspect of colonialism is this hiding game: we know we have this power, and we’re told to keep ourselves muted. So we start to hide and use this innate power to manipulate, and that becomes a darker energy and makes it more difficult to own your voice and power.  How do you encourage women to use their voice and own their story? Mirror work was one of my first practices. And it was so powerful to just stand in front of the mirror and say “I love you.” Really powerful tool to help keep you from looking for someone else to give that to you. First, I made a pact to not criticize my stomach, and now I’m at the point where I can actually compliment her. Growing  up hearing “Watch your mouth, it’s gonna get you in trouble,” conflicted with my inner voice that knows I have a voice that is valid and powerful. I’ve learned it's my strength. It’s healing to others when I use my authentic voice. My voice is influential, so it’s my responsibility to figure out how to use it. So important to do this work with other women! Until you can start magnifying and amplifying your voice with other women, you won’t have that skill set ready to go when you’re on your own in the world.  Being with other women helps you feel seen and heard. I had to create spaces that were healing for me, that then turned out to be healing for others Growing up, I felt like I noticed only manipulative women. Once I started healing, I found women that were powerful and nurturing and loving. Once I was able to forgive myself and forgive others, I was able to find others on that same path to form a community. Millennials have taken all the stratifications of womanhood and made them equal; they’ve made us question what was given to us. How have your daughters changed your views? Date rape: My generation can see how it may be a misunderstanding, because I see how men of my generation were socialized. I told my daughters that they needed to be careful when they went out, that if they took a drug they couldn’t say they got raped. They told me “Hell no! Rape is rape.” If we as women are not pushing to say rape is rape, this pattern will just continue. I’m trying to instill safety in my daughters, and they are pushing for revolution. And both are needed.  Words are like seeds of intention. What seeds would you like to plant with our listeners to grow the queendom? Live, Love, Give, Grow These four words encompass everything you need to have a good life.   Q&A : How can I protect myself from negative energy? Nut milk baths with herbs and essential oils Basil, bay leaves, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, lavender, mint, myrrh, nutmeg, patchouli, peony, rosemary, sage, and turmeric. Can also do an altar with tobacco/sage This is based in an Afro-Caribbean spiritual practice, and can be used for purely physical benefits as well as spiritual.  Write to me, let me know how it’s going! Intro- How do you define “home?” Home felt unreachable to me as a child, because my idea of home was built around a nuclear family dynamic that I didn’t have. After my mom spent a year in the hospital, and ultimately survived Leukemia, I felt like home could always be taken from me. It took years to learn how to find home within myself. How can you find home within, so you can be “at home” with others? Selima Lust interview Clinical Herbalist, medical astrologer, and spiritual teacher My wife Tami and I started our company in 2011 manufacturing body care products. Came out of a need to find solutions to our health concerns that were not being addressed in the medical field. After years of healing physically, I recognized the remaining inflammation was trauma related. You have to heal your emotional wounds to heal your physical pain. So many people are afraid to go into the past and heal what’s hurting them, but it’s so worth it. You can’t even imagine the kind of things that are waiting for you on the other side. You go through so many layers of healing the same trauma. At some point, you develop a process for yourself for triggers or resistance, you’re able to move through it with more ease and grace When you make space for the new, all kinds of things change. The Tower Card has to happen, it is going to happen. AND--it’s only a moment. You will move through to the new. Boundaries How do you walk the line between explaining why your boundaries are what they are, without telling someone how to do their own process? There is a compassionate way to communicate a boundary, and that needs to be at the center of the communication. To the other person, this new boundary is divergent from what’s always been the dynamic. And that takes a practice of compassion. It’s an educator role, and a reinforcement for yourself too. How did you and your wife process your trauma together, and build a business around that, without losing your boundaries or individuality? A natural thing that happens in any relationship, especially the beginning, is you start to dissolve into each other, but you find your way when you realize “oh we’ve melded too much with each other. Let’s find our way back to our individuality within this relationship.” We like the same things. We talk a lot. I had to learn how to move and push through my uncomfortability communicating. We don’t try to soften blows. We listen to each other’s perspectives. You need to communicate because your behavior is changing based on your thinking, and your partner can’t read your mind. Call out and notice changes in body language. So much communication can happen non-verbally, and be used in the moment as opposed to letting a story build up in your head about what the other person was thinking. You can communicate anger or pain, and if you do it with an open heart, it will be received in a way that can be processed.  If you’re working on your stuff, and becoming more and more whole, you’ll be able to find the balance between expressing vulnerability and acknowledging that it’s your work to do and not theirs. At first, we didn’t want kids. But after 6 years together and healing trauma, we opened up so much space and so much love to give, and that’s how we came to be parents. If I keep growing, and keep healing trauma, my son will be ok. Even in utero, practice talking to your kids like they’re 20 or 30. Talk to them like you have the relationship you want to have with them when they’re 20 or 30. Working through your trauma can change your ability to care for others, including children. What is your favorite product to use with clients? Immunity syrup--we have the ability to maintain our health and heal ourselves, away from traditional power structures. Words are like seeds of intention. What seeds would you like to plant with our listeners to grow the queendom? Choose joy! In every decision consider, your choices, your words...what’s in alignment with joy? Even if it's the harder thing, choose joy.   Q&A : What’s your relationship like with water? We are mostly water, it is fundamental to our existence. Who has access to clean water? How do we keep the water we have access to, clean? Use less water at home. Be intentional about noticing the gift of water, everytime you use it. Water takes on sound frequencies, it responds to emotional cues. Water is conscious.  Write me, let me know how it’s going! Intro- Practice modulating the love you give My cat Lulu is giving me the perfect example to talk about modulating the love you give. After practicing giving love unabashadley, the next step is figuring out how to modulate the love you give so that the being you want to give it to can receive it fully. Lulu came today, jumping into my lap, wanting all the love I have to give. But if I just blast out all the love I have for her, it would overwhelm her little, anxious nervous system. I had to give it fully, in a way she could handle it. You can modulate the love you have to give by giving it through your eyes, or softly through your fingers, or a cup of tea.  The problem isn’t that you are too much. It isn’t that you have too much love to give. It’s, sometimes, that we’re not conscious of the type of transmission wave we’re sending out. And now we get to be conscious of it. Make the giving of it an art, and your Love will be a gift.  Chiquita Brujita interview Chiquita Brujita is a lifeforce that came out of a cry for divination. What started as one night of performance art became a system of divination that included digital dancing, full moon fortunes, and marketing of handmade prayer candles that trouble the notion of what we pray for.  Santeria practitioner and very aware that tools presented to me as part of my Black, ancestral magic have always been co-opted in some way by Catholic imagery. I’m best known for the prayer candles. It was supposed to be for one day, and it just took off. I started working with one of the largest Latin parties in NYC, and began producing a tropical circus, and creating joy and community. Brought this dance floor life into public, mostly white spaces Community is something we need, before we need it.  Looking at the possibility of moving out of New York City, buying land, stocking up on money, due to the financial ramifications of COVID-19. Matrilineal lineage in La Regla de Ocha/Lucumi/Santeria. I studied the religion in college, to understand my grandmother, myself, and my mother. Through this academic lens, I learned of the things she would never say to me. Alice Walker “In Search of Our Mothers’ Gardens.” Maternal energy of nurturing spirit happens in ritual.  This is about the power to assert yourself as a Divine Light, as a child of God.  See sacred space wherever you are. That’s why I make prayer candles. I wanted things people could have that were self-affirming, and useful for them calling in Spirit.  Syncretism with Yoruba Orishas and Catholic Saints. A bruja’s approach to COVD-19: Feeling my rage and how systemic it is feeds my purpose of being joy and light. How do you spark joy within yourself right now? It’s not easy. Joy is evolving. It is temporal. You can be present in the moment and feel joy. When I spend too much time in the unknown or the nostalgic, or I wish I did, or I should have...that’s what kills my joy. Ground bitch, ground! You have to laugh. I am in deep gratitude for community Basic rituals- guasha and facial oil Drink hot lemon water with turmeric and black pepper Walking and hiking when I can Dancing Zoom with friends Houseparty app Let go to make space for the new blessings that are coming That means taking the space to grieve what you’re letting go I find my joy by identifying my anxiety God never gives us more than we can handle It’s hard to find solitude when everyone is expecting me to be reachable because I’m on lockdown. So I pull the Hermit Card, which just confirms that I need cave time. I’m making Zoom Boxes, and each one comes with party stuff for your face and room--to set up your Zoom Vibe.   Q&A : How do I do a facial cleansing ritual? Make a ritual out of cleansing your face. USE FACIAL OIL!!!! You can use either a Guasha or your fingertips to do lymphatic drainage facial. Facial oil recipe: Argan, Jamacian Castor Oil, combo of essential oils-lavender, rosemary, frankincense, and peppermint.  A little bit of the oil on your face Make sure your hands or Guasha are clean. Use your fingertips, quickly move your fingers in an upward motion. Soft, but firm, upward strokes all around your face. Around your eyes, use just your pinky finger. At least 60 seconds, in the morning and at night Will detox your lymph nodes in your face--imagine what that means energetically! Cleansing your crown, third eye, and throat chakras! Intro- I am here to create love. Taking time to dive deeper into how I am embodying my core and putting that into service in a way that lights me up. I am here to create love, that is my purpose. Everything I’ve gone through has been a learning in different forms of loving: myself, others, the world, Source/God/Creator/The Great Mystery How can I give love without condition, without needing anything in return--in every level? Even outside of COVID, people are living with pain. How can I extend compassion? Starts with waking up and not looking at my phone immediately. I need a break from screens, since I’m around them all the time. So I sleep with my phone in the bathroom. Don’t have to rush out of bed right now. Taking the idea of presence, and adding love to that, in every interaction. I call myself a Love Artist I am very open about sex, but this isn’t just about sex. Love is not just about sex. We need, more than ever, love and compassion in everything that we’re doing. We’re seeing how sacred human connection is right now I am called right now to embrace a new depth to the Art of Love Vanessa Cuccia interview Owner and Creator of Chakrubs Ethically sourced, crystal self-pleasure aids I (Chloé) bought my first one around my birthday. It’s Rose Quartz. The first time I used it, I gave it a ritual oil bath. I gave myself a ritual oil bath. I played some heart frequency beats. Then I went into my room, inserted it, and let myself feel what it was like to use a toy that was connecting me to an actual energy frequency, as opposed to synthetic dildos. I was focusing on my breathing, and then I was taken to another place. I cried, then I orgasmed, then I cried some more. I’ve done a lot of sexual healing work before, so I know how tremendously intense it can be. But I never knew I could have this kind of wonderfully shattering orgasm with a dildo. How did Chakrubs come to be? The woman had a large collection of crystals in a room. I had been in an emotionally and sexually abusive relationship for six years. I was used as his sex toy. My pleasure wasn’t on the table.  At this time, I was single, and working at an adult store. But none of the toys I had access to interested me. Then, in the room with the crystals, the name Chakrubs popped in my head.  I heard the crystals telling me “We are here to help.” It was like they were conscious beings telling me, “We are able to help heal my sexual trauma, and also they wanted me to present them to the world, and present this as a solution to this problem, which was: we’re disconnected.” Why was I so disconnected from myself that I was allowing myself to be in a situation where I had no boundaries? That’s why at the adult shop, I didn’t connect from anything there. I wanted pleasure so badly, I was always a very sexually charged person, I wanted to feel pleasure. But that wasn’t the end all-be all for me. I needed to connect to something much more significant: to myself. The crystals were a conduit. I said “these would be really great sex toys!” And these spiritual people just sort of dismissed me and kept doing their thing. I was in LA pursuing music and acting, but this took precedence. It took a couple years, but that’s how it started. We mine in places that are abundant in crystals, and we follow ethical trade and manufacturing practices. We try to give back in every way that we can, because we are extracting crystals from the earth. You can’t get around that. It is making an impact, but we do everything we can to minimize. At the beginning I sought out advice from a Shaman about the whole process, including costs.  We pay top dollar to take care of the people and environment we are working with. I had to work through my own associations with money. I had to change my attitude towards it. I had $50 in pocket at any time in LA, working 3 jobs. So when I had the product and was ready to charge for it, I was freaked out. The Shaman helped me understand that money is energy. And all the energy that went into making the crystal and the product, and doing that ethically gets to have an energetic value in money. And, if taken care of, these will last a lifetime. The Shaman helped me work through all of that. I try to bring the shadow side of business to light. The details of Vanessa’s story, her past, and what led to the moment of creation can be found here.  I (Vanessa) was at a spiritual meeting of the minds. One of my friends was living with me, and asked me to tag along to this woman’s house. Chakrubs are not cheap. And that’s a good thing. When I was thinking about buying one, I was choosing to invest in myself, but I had already spent so much money on sex toys that I used once or twice, and they were kinda--ehh--so I stopped using them. But one of the reasons I felt good about investing in my Chakrub is that they’re ethically sourced. Can you talk about that? Coming out of this abusive relationship, to this incredibly powerful state with a healing, self-love product...how has that changed your sex life and your dating life? That’s always been a challenge for me. My relationships have been far from perfect. It’s not like I switched after using Chakrubs. It’s been a process. Every relationship has varied in emotional and sexual connection, but what Chakrubs taught me is that energy is the most important thing.  My sex life is awesome! I had not orgasmed or felt pleasure in my vagina, and I was extremely numb in my vagina that entire 6 year relationship.   Chakrubs is the spiritual tool that will help you become more self-aware and bring about body positivity and acceptance. Apart from the metaphysical, it’s also just really pleasurable. Chakrubs brought the sensitivity back to my vagina, and I started having incredibly deep, powerful orgasms. I was my own source of pleasure, and able to provide that to myself. And that was amazing, I felt great about it!  I also found things that I needed to process: about the relationship, my childhood, and past lives.  You don’t actually need tools, they’re fun, but that pleasure and love is already in you. My book “Crystal Healing and Sacred Pleasure” is all about that. How do you hold that pleasure and self-love when you’re with somebody else?    I like the idea of evolution and understanding and getting to know someone. I give time for growth to happen in my relationships.  Because of Chakrubs I can be more patient with myself and the other person, communicate better what I want and need, and set boundaries.  Caring about what I put into my body helped me care about who I put in my body. I am currently in a relationship and having the best sex of my life, but it took an adjustment period.  I don’t need everything up front. With Chakrubs I’m learning the process of growth. How to remain this person I’ve grown into, when I’m with a partner who is a mirror reflecting parts of me that I can’t see when I’m alone? Spirituality and sexuality are unending paths, which means there’s always a place to go and evolve. I (Chloé) have been on a life-long journey of healing from Endometriosis, and have been symptom free for a few years.  The way my physical therapist explained it to me, there are three myofascial layers of the vagina. I get to the first layer with my finger; the second layer with a crystal wand that’s shaped like an “s” to get my g-spot, but I use it for myofascial release of spasms in the second layer; for the third, deeper, layer, I need a dilator. Each session I have with myself, I work with all 3 layers.  It was helping. I was breathing, letting my pelvic floor relax. Where a lot of people are told to do kegels, I have to do reverse kegels, to release the tight muscles.  First and second layer were always fine, but the third layer was always uncomfortable with the tool I was using.  It had been months since I did the work, because of the issues with the tools for the third layer. But I knew I needed to do them. That was part of the reason I bought a Chakrub. Now, I do my pelvic floor work daily, and then masturbate after. For a lot of us with pelvic trauma, having something inside for that long can be painful. And what’s been amazing about my Chakrub is there was an energetic understanding I had with my crystal. I said “Ok. I know this is uncomfortable, and it’s because I haven’t done this work for months, and that’s just where we’re at.  But I also know intuitively, it’s not this object that is increasing the pain.” It was a different understanding, a different relationship I had with it. And in less than a week, the pain was gone. I no longer have to talk myself up to doing internal work. I look forward to it now. One of the things I do as part of my healing is internal dilator work. I’ve been using different tools and my fingers to do that work.  What seeds do you want to plant with our audience to “Grow the Queendom?” Listen to yourself, go within, because you are the Queen. Queen’s have crowns with points at the top that signify that Queens receive messages from The Beyond. A Queen is a Queen, because she is connected. She wears the crown. She is an open channel to receive, and people go to the Queen to be connected to what she is so well connected to. So just listen. You’ll hear it. Listen Q&A : How do I create a sexual healing/self-love practice? Make it a ritual. Make it pleasurable. Sex is sacred, you are sacred, your body is sacred. If you have a bathtub, take a hot bath with some magnesium salt and essential oils.  If you don’t have a bathtub, get real fuzzy and warm in your body and breathe. Put on sexy music or binaural beats for whatever chakra or energy center you want to work with in your body. Ex: sacral or heart chakra Start breathing deeply. First part of this work is release. It’s hard to feel pleasure with a lot of pain, constriction, and tension. Laying down, breathing, start with a lubricated index finger (recommend coconut oil for lube). Allow the jaw to relax. Jaws and hips are structurally and energetically connected, so releasing your jaw allows your hips to release. For a while, just breathe with it in. Know that you’re connecting with a crystal--a living, energetic being with a frequency; and connecting with yourself. Then, kick up the sacred pleasure: keep focusing on breath, but on your inhale, roll the top of your pelvis forward (ass moves back). On your exhale, the tailbone comes forward, releasing the arch. (Basically missionary position, rocking your pelvis back and forth with breath.) You are Love. Therefore, you are Loved. And Love is a lot of things, but definitely pleasure. You are meant to experience pleasure.  Say “This feels good. I feel good. I feel really good.” Maybe it morphs into “I feel Consciousness penetrating me open.” “I feel Lovelight breaking my heart opening with pleasure.” Think of vaginal opening as a clock. 12 o’clock is north towards your clitoris; 6 o’clock is south towards your anus.  Between your top knuckle/bottom of your nail is the first layer of mayofascial tissue in the vagina. Make the loop of the clock from 12 to 6 back up to 12. Feel for places of tension or ropey/knotty areas. Breathe and stay there, just until you feel the sensation shift. Inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. Next go to the second layer: down to your knuckle. Or use a crystal wand to get to that layer (where G-Spot is), and use the same clock release technique. Next insert your Chakrub, checking in with your breath. Intro- Younger Queens I am a grown ass woman, and I still view the world like a child.  I am moved by nature, I can get lost in the clouds, I can cry watching a sunset How do we encourage younger generations of Not-yet-queens or princesses to step into their queendom without waiting for a prince to rescue them. The king to shine with you may show up and be attracted to your light, but may not be ready to reign just yet Women have a less dense nervous system, so we process things faster, we think through things faster. The male nervous system is more dense, so it takes them longer to process and learn, to hear and understand Focus on you, let the lovespace take root, but focus on you Encourage younger queens that they’re doing it right.  Takes time to learn how to ride the flow of life Can’t control life, we can control how we respond to it Be intentional about your responses to life   Dr. Caroline Hartridge   Q&A “What about cannabis for pregnant queens” Take home message: as with all medicine and substances, use at your own discretion during pregnancy. However, big picture there are endocannabinoids in breast milk and the stress hormones a mom can release experiencing anxiety or pain (such as cortisol and epinephrine) can be worse for the fetus than THC. Smoking in general reduces oxygen to the fetus, so keep that in mind. Food is the cornerstone of hormone balance She suffered from endometriosis  In and out of the emergency room in Osteopathic medical school Debilitating pain and poor quality of life Shifted from sustainable farm-raised diet to plant-based diet, symptoms went away in 3 days. Until you get to the root cause of what’s manifesting your “dis-ease”, you’re going to continue to manifest that disease. Metaphysical, mathematical, scientific basis for this Dr. Holland explains the manifestation of disease or dysfunctional tissue through math and through point detractors. As things are manifested from anti-matter into matter (0s into 1s of looking at this mathematically), there are frequencies that are significant enough to detract or shift the mathematical pattern, and there are ones that don’t. An insignificant point detractor won’t affect how you manifest matter. A significant point detractor will. And if you do not clear those significant point detractor will manifest in pain or disease. In the rise of Divine Masculine and Feminine meeting each other, there is more space for energy work to come into conventional medicine. Mind-Body-Spirit paradigm The power of your thoughts are real, they create a neurochemical soup that forms your reality If being told “it’s all in your head” is a gift when it triggers you, because it means there’s something to work through  Get Down With your BadAss Self What wheelbarrow of stories do you carry around that you need to let go? How to use cannabis from the mind-body-spirit paradigm? Full patient history, because it’s case by case recommendation Medical cannabis is helpful because patients can get recommendations for what will serve them best at different points of the day, in addition to what will serve their medical condition best Women have a lot of cannabinoid receptors in our reproductive organs and lymphatic tissue, so specifically for women, medical cannabis can be extremely beneficial Cannabis is one of the tools in the toolkit Entourage effect: most therapeutic benefit from cannabis when consumed as a whole product (THC and CBD). CBD alone does have therapeutic benefits so for certain patients who can not or should not have THC, it will still help CBD is psychoactive. That’s why it helps treat anxiety.  It is not psychomimetic, which THC is, it helps bring you to a different state. Cannabis and Sex Ms. Cory B + Lenore Black Brooklyn based empowered women in the sex industry who are also coaches and performers Cannabis effects men and women differently because of the difference in receptor locations Difference between smoking, vaping, and topical application; cbd only and thc with cbd Women overall found the products more effective Topical CBD/THC does seem to help with erectile dysfunction, because both a vasodilators, they allow more blood flow, more engorgement of sexual organs Can make women secrete more fluid, which will make sex more enjoyable Suggest using topically versus smoking for sex Smoking decreases mucus production Locally receptors are being told don’t make as much lubrication, and the brain does too Smoking with sex is beneficial when you’re doing healing work to rewire the brain from trauma, to reprogram trauma Smoking before doing internal pelvic floor work Can help with deep breathing and being in their body How can you own the story of the trauma and tell it to yourself differently THC/CBD rectal or vaginal suppositories THEY ARE A MIRACLE!!!! Causes increased blood flow and allows the muscles to relax Invite and encourage women to journal more about their cannabis use to see how different strains affect you at different points in your cycle Be your own researcher until official studies are done. Intro- Where do Queens? Where do Queens do what they do? Where do they collaborate? Where their heart is lit up Queens make their space feel homey, no matter where the space is Warm, loving energy in the environment should match the energy inside Where do Queens heal? In intimate community with someone else Where do Queens express themselves? Everywhere. The minute you start stifling your expression, your voice, you’re dimming your light.  Where do Queens learn? In every aspect of our lives Seek out people to teach us who are further along than we are Again, community Where do Queens create? You’re always creating. The moment that you pick up the brush, or the pen, or the camera, then you’re expressing. But you’re always creating Live life like a sustainable farmer: rotate your fields. It saves the soil. Sometimes, a field needs to be burned and left for a while, so the soil can regenerate. So much is happening underneath the soil when it seems to just be dead When it’s ready, new seeds can be planted for harvest Let yourself die. Because the transformation is radical. Every time. Kara Ladd interview How has being a survivor of cancer impacted your life now, a few years out of treatment? COVID-19 diagnosis triggered the same parallels in Kara’s life when she was in cancer treatment Pre-cancer and post-cancer person Life is a repetition of the same themes so that we can learn each intricate layer What has your physical journey translated to in terms of your relationships? The relationship with myself changed the most I thought I knew myself pre-cancer and pre-trauma, but I realized that I was confined to a mold I created as a 13 year old. And the trauma forced me to embrace self-love and self-care on a whole new level. That then impacted every other relationship I had Shaped her health and spirituality and way of being You don’t have to go through trauma to have a profound shift in consciousness Find the miracle of just being in this human body The minutiae of life IS life How has living in STL and NY shaped your understanding of Queendom? Grounded and independent What does conscious dating look like as a nomad? Dating apps became a numbing tool. Once that was clear, she got off of them Strong sense of embodied love has catapulted her view of love Manifestation lists bring clarity about what and who you want Spiritual, conscious focus is at the top of the list What was the trigger that catapulted your career so quickly? Used to be so focused on forcing things to happen, now I allow them to flow Really getting comfortable in the empty space allowed others to be attracted in who could help me move forward  Taking a step back from “optimizing” and just listen to what my body feels and needs Alisa Vitti, “In the Flow” How to cycle your life with your body Magic and power come from rest Business cycle with the moon and with your hormonal cycle POWR  Plan (follicular phase) Open Up (Ovulation) Work (Luteal) Rest (Menstrual) What seeds do you want to plant with our audience to “Grow the Queendom?” Listen “Hector and The Search for Happiness”- listening is loving. Intro When do Queens do the things they do? Lead: by living, by example Listen: more listening; active listening is such a powerful gift! Speak up: when it’s necessary for something to be said with absolute authority and love; Queen of Swords in tarot; when not speaking up creates more suffering or aligns with those who cause suffering, it is a Queen’s direct duty to shout the truth; speak up anywhere you see injustice happening.  Engage: when you have the energy; you can’t engage when you are at a low; when you are grounded and filled up enough to offer something; when through engagement, more love and joy is enjoyed by more people. Separate: when the result isn’t changing, when energy is wanted, when pearls are being cast to swine. Queens honor their power, and when staying in a situation starts costing more than they’re able to regenerate within themselves, they separate. Timing for Queens: do what serves you the most, when it serves you the most.   Sarah Yourgrau Interview We can either make this time an evolution or a destruction  Choose how we embrace uncertainty “Returning the Favor” on Facebook Watch Highlighting community members who are trying to change their world Giving them the resources to shine even brighter People are really good! Finding “good” happening in trenches of suffering Level of compassion that comes from times of trial...these times bring out the humanity in us Sarah’s dad was a documentary filmmaker, and grew up championing the “other’s” story Sociology and Theater major, fascinated by human nature While she started production work in reality tv, Sarah knew she wanted to tell deeper stories With $100 in her bank account, she said “If my heart’s not in it, then that’s not a life. That’s not the life I want to live, and I'd rather grind it out and work odd jobs and babysit and to figure out ways to make certain bills. But I need to start making a declaration of who I am. I have a superpower that is being dimmed, because what I’m really good at is championing people and empowering people.” I only work on projects that are uplifting, and inspiring, and use story for what it can be...to build hope Many years struggling to make ends meet, but feeling so fulfilled Once you put it out to the Universe,It meets you. You have to have the courage to make the declaration. Suddenly started getting called to jobs that mattered to me Even though the media wants you to believe that fear sells, Sarah’s experience is the opposite.  By shouting out that I will only work on what inspires me, I’ve been abundant too In her feminine superpower while being in a 95% male world at work Intentional about hiring women What makes a beautiful, fierce, and empowered leader? Nurturing, which is a skill in which feminine energies excel. Taking care of our co-workers and teammates. A lot of women have had to be very cut-throat and “alpha”- but this fierceness is actually very feminine, and when combined with our natural gift of nurturing and care, it’s incredibly powerful! Vulnerability is power! So is direct communication  I am leading by example, I can be the warmest person in the room AND you can take me the most seriously.  That is the power of feminine leadership My work team is a sisterhood that I build Learn the masculine game so we can get a seat at the table, then we can start to change the rules so that they benefit everyone! Warmth that is respected is a feminine trait and power When there is love and joy in the making of work, it can only affect the final project How does Sarah make her marriage work when she’s travelling all the time Been together 10 years, building brick brick of the castle that we wanted to live in Every single step has included gut-wrenchingly honest conversation, unbelievable respect for the other person, and blind championing of each other When the choice is made early on to build a life intentionally, living in a castle that you both designed, everything is possible. Because we’re both doing work that lights up our souls, we love to champion each other Protective of together time. It is sacred, and there are really fierce boundaries around that. What is your legacy? What’s the point? If my life can empower one other person, that’s the point. I am building an empire of empowered, positive, female drive media. And I champion stories of men who rise to the occasion with love and nurturing and embracing feminnine power. Sarah is building a “For Good” media company  You always have a choice, positive or negative. By choosing positivity, you’re not naive, there are challenges, but you believe in a solution. Creating the series “Now tell me something good,” showing that true resilience is positivity. What seeds do you want to plant with our audience to “Grow the Queendom?” Believe you are worthy of happiness Believe you have power Failure is the best! It’s how we learn There are so many women who will support you and get behind you just for stepping in the ring. Dream so big that you’re uncomfortable, and then implement little baby steps that you can take every day. Give yourself expanders, people who show you it’s possible.  Have blind belief in your self-worth, because your voice is needed! Passion will lead you to your salvation. And if it happens overnight, it’s not real. You are your only limitation Q&A What is the connection between our lymphatic system and our emotions? Everything you experience in your life, is held in your body Cells, organs, blood, bones, muscles The body is brilliant, and adapts to every experience you have in order to learn from it or protect you moving forward Sometimes your body gets caught in the adaption and creates a holding pattern Ex: Walking through crowded Times Square, and a big angry guy hits your arm as he walks by. In either fear or anger, you might respond by holding your arm a little closer to your chest. Buf if you keep doing that, it will affect your whole body. My work is about unwinding chronic holding patterns in your body and your life How does this play into lymphatic drainage? Your lymphatic system is your body’s natural detox system The physical and emotional body are one If your physical body’s way of getting rid of waste, toxins, essentially negative energy, has been blocked, then literally and figuratively, you’ve been full of shit. This is why, when you break up the lymphatic system, you may have an emotional release  Tears are lymphatic fluid and are also releasing negative energy, so crying is more lymphatic drainage Lymphatic system is a mirror of emotional and spiritual health If your physical body’s way of getting rid of what no longer serves you is blocked, then the intuitive, emotional, spiritual connection you have, and the ability you have  to release what no longer serves you and attract in what is healing and beneficial to you, is also clogged. “When the mind and the body are incongruent, trust the body.”-Alexander Lowen (Father of Bioenergetic Therapy) If you feel disconnected emotionally or spiritually, get in your body. Do some intentional body work, to unwind that block. The physical release will also release your emotional/spiritual blockages. Send in your questions: queen@growthequeendom.com; IG and FB- @queendom.come.podcast Online video coaching with me through BEAM+Flow “Embodied Flow Sessions” (bodywork, feelings, hormone balancing, creative coaching)- beaming@beamandflow.com IG and FB: @beam.and.flow or @chloecofresi During Coronavirus, all embodied flow sessions are pay what you can. If you’re an essential worker, they’re free!   Moment of Flow “Warning” by Jenny Joseph When I am an old woman I shall wear purple With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells And run my stick along the public railings And make up for the sobriety of my youth. I shall go out in my slippers in the rain And pick flowers in other people’s gardens And learn to spit. You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat And eat three pounds of sausages at a go Or only bread and pickle for a week And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes. But now we must have clothes that keep us dry And pay our rent and not swear in the street And set a good example for the children. We must have friends to dinner and read the papers. But maybe I ought to practise a little now? So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

INTRO How do Queens...? How do I move through my day, how do I live in a state of flow? How do Queens stay healthy?  Eat and live and plan my days around my hormonal cycle Live according to Infradrian Rhythm (longer than 24 hour Circadian rhythm; 28 days) Every week we need diff foods, diff types of sex, diff types of working out Eat whole foods, a variety of them What you can’t get from a whole food diet, get from high quality supplements Essential Oils (Young Living- organic, therapeutic grade, highest quality, pure essential oils) Alissa Vitti- Woman Code; In the Flow How do queens live vibrantly? Partly by staying healthy Stay connected to your flow You will not be the same person this week that you were last week Let yourself shine by flowing and being present in each moment, even through the pain How do queens engage their power You need to KNOW you have power You are a superhero! And you have superpowers at your disposal You have to KNOW it before you can ENGAGE it Engage it: tell yourself you’re powerful in the mirror, write it down, dance, be a bad bitch, put on something that makes you feel sexy, call someone who makes you laugh, make someone else laugh! By embracing your power, you’re growing and embracing your queendom It is not a fairytale or fantasy that you get to have a shining, powerful, rock star version of your life, whatever that means to you. You create your world, even when you don’t feel any control over it.  You get to choose your response, and that response is the next piece in creating your world It is a dance between what is out of your control and what you can control Take time every day and feel how best to express your soul’s cry Maybe it’s breathing, yoga, dancing---GET INTO YOUR BODY Really intentional work doesn’t have to last a long time. You can do really powerful work with your body in a few minutes. Engage with other Queens who can lift you up Write down or speak out loud who you are and how you want to feel that day We ultimately do what we want. So if you focus on how you want to feel, you will inevitably do the things that make you feel that way. Who are you? Get clear on that. Because in the moments when you need to engage your power, it’s going to come from knowing deeply, who you are. It’s an unshakeable confidence that who you are, is Divine.   Interview- Melissa Alvarado Sierra I got to know Melissa’s work when I read “Why I Abandoned the American Dream and Followed My Puerto Rican Dream Instead” The physical movement coincides with the emotional movement. Witnessing a suicide in San Francisco clarified what she wanted, to write and go back to PR The Coquí, if you take it outside the island, it often dies Everybody has a different journey I marry my feminist self with my Puerto-Rican self  Rosario Ferré is an inspiration Women in PR is a reflection of the island of PR Machismo is a big issue My power comes from fighting against patriarchal society I was raised in,  as well as the colony of Puerto Rico. PR women are colonized and brutalized too.  The fight for women’s rights goes along with the fight for freedom of our island. Have to negotiate being a powerful, independent woman, with the fact that our identity is tied to a legacy of patriarchy Underground way of using power as a woman by flirting and using your body. How do I take those things that are inherently part of me, that have been used to keep me under control, for my own power? When i first got my period I was told I couldn’t go out and play with the boys anymore I screamed in protest on the page When I write about people, I remind them that every experience has different lenses, and understanding that helps to avoid minimizing others experience or voice. I fought to be a writer, so I’m happy. All the dark sides, all the struggles, I'm ok with it.  It took years. I started at 25, which is late.  While modeling, I did a writing internship on the side, without telling anyone. Slowly started writing and getting things published, and eventually gave up modeling to write full-time. Being far away from home gave me a freedom to work on my dreams secretly, and nurture it, and then tell people when there was something to show How do you nourish yourself? Because I move around a lot, I try to keep something stable with me I always have my books with me I try to read every day I try to write every day, even if it’s something silly, like describing a palm tree. It’s a muscle that needs to be moved every day. And it’s also my therapy I talk to myself, freely I fight for my own little 9 year old self, as my own protector As I age, I stand up for myself more I spend my energy on me first, then others Not selfish, it’s self-care Think about being pregnant with your inner child, about mothering your inner child Liberating ourselves will liberate our children, especially our daughters What was it like coming back to PR fully empowered, living the dreams and life you created for yourself? Once it’s out there and tangible, people accept it, but when you’re working on it, people don’t understand the process. I decided my life was precious, and I wasn’t going to waste it doing something I wasn’t excited about. It’s important to see ourselves represented in art, it’s how we know we matter and we have a voice What seeds do you want to plant with our audience to “Grow the Queendom?” Nurture your passion. Your voice is valuable and we need to hear it.   Q&A Why are the groin and stomach the places that usually retain the most lymphatic fluid? The groin and stomach have the most lymph nodes, because we excrete the most from these areas (pee, poop, women bleed) When lymphatic fluid builds up, we feel puffy and inflamed Since the most amount of lymphatic fluid passes through these lymph nodes, when they are clogged by toxins, these areas of the body become the most lymphatically inflamed. Because. Why? Not? And as the world shakes, and Yemaya comes up form the ocean I'm left wondering  Is this it?  And all I can think is  "Protect me, protect my family, protect this house, protect my island.  Protect me, protect my family, protect this house, protect my island." And thankfully, we're protected But my brothers and sisters in the south, they're not And their entire life is gone In a second And I'm here I made it We're ok It doesn't feel right Something's off So I text back to the "mainland" Who's up? There is no power There are lines filling up gas stations We don't know how long it's gonna take Pero somo Boricuas, pa'que tu lo sepas! We're Puerto-Rican, just so you fucking know it! Intro Happy 12th birthday to my cat Lulu! WWQD- What Would Queens DO? What would Queens say? What drugs would Queens use? What would Queens fight for? What would Queens look for in a lover? What would a Queen watch? What would a Queen read? WWJD was full of guilty connotations as a kid. I felt like, “WWJD--don’t get punished! WWJD--don’t get in trouble!” Let’s change that!  WWQD isn’t about punishment, it’s about pleasure! It’s a dance, it’s a yoga, it’s a practice. A way of breaking free from the things that distract ourselves We free ourselves of lower vibrations, because they’re illusions, they’re false gold. And we want the real treasure, because we are the real treasure!   Interview with Lauren Berlingeri and Katie Kaps, owners of HigherDOSE This show wouldn’t exist without Lauren and Katie I created and lead the Lymphatic Drainage program at HigherDOSE They gave me the chance to launch my business in much bigger arena than I would have on my own, and then it grew so quickly! Many of my guests are women I met because they were clients at HigherDOSE. Lauren and Katie were business partners first, then best friends, then not friends, then best friends again. Katie came from an extensive finance background, Lauren was doing TV hosting and had her own show, and was a nutritionist and health coach.  They both went to spending 80% of time launching business, not making any money. “We laughed together and cried together  and argued and blamed each other and learned from each other. “ It’s like marriage without the sex How did you respect each other when you were fighting as friends? Because we were business partners from basically the day we met, we put the business first, even when we couldn’t stand each other. We both understand how important energy is, so we always take the time to focus on the personal before diving into the business, because it also supports us as creative entrepreneurs.  “Hey babe, you’re hot. Wanna start a sauna business with me?” How you run the business is centered around energy and intention. How do you do it as Queens? If we don’t want to do something, we’re not gonna do it. We create for ourselves, so that we can support a need or desire we already have.  Going from heart and stomach, and not from the head. The heart vibrates at a frequency that’s 5x stronger than the head. When you're working from your heart space, you’re a magnet for opportunity, attracting opportunity We’re not afraid to be a little irreverent and authentic, because we’re not thinking about what makes us the most money all the time. How has your growth in the business affected your relationships? Lauren is a new mom to twins.  How am i going to have children when I already have a child, HigherDOSE? So I looked at women who were already doing it, and you realize you just do it. Lifestyles and priorities shift, my children come first and then higherDOSE is second. Then self-care, and outside of that there’s not much. Lauren has been waiting for 5 years for quarantine, but Katie is very much a free spirit.  Katie: I can get more done on 2 hours of my own terms, than 10 hours for someone else.  Katie: Being an entrepreneur gives me time to explore relationships and friendships. How has the success of the business shifted dynamics in your marriage/dating life? It’s important to choose a partner who wants to see you and help you grow Being an entrepreneur has opened up mystique in the dating world, but there are some people who are also more jealous. But if you can give your new lover an infrared sauna session, it helps. What seeds do you want to plant with our audience to “Grow the Queendom?” Manifestation, being completely clear on what you want.  Abundance and generosity. The more you give out, it comes back tenfold.    Q&A What is the lymphatic system, and why is it important? Personal intro Having to move back from Puerto Rico has reminded me that no matter where I am, WHO I am, is a Queen. Who is a queen? They believe they are queens, they show up for themselves as Queens. In tarot, my personality card is the Empress, the Queen of Queens I choose every day to be the Empress, whether or not I feel it My feelings don't define me. I define me.  Queens can feel everything, because they know that the feelings will pass, and who they are is consistently a Queen.   Carmindy Interview Safeguarding your energy is key to living in your Queendom.  Allow yourself to take a day, without making excuses to justify your choice. Carmindy grew up in Southern California and was bullied relentlessly for being overweight and for her looks. She found her escape through art and nature In the beginning she was covering herself in makeup, in an attempt to change herself. And then as her self-esteem grew through art, she started seeing the power of highlighting the natural beauty in herself and others Grew up reading “A Course in Miracles,” her mother studied astrology and so Carmindy did too. She was a spiritual seeker early on  Read “Creative Visualization”; read “7 Spiritual Laws of Success” She combined the two, to make sure every woman would feel empowered, and her  spiritual background helped her relate to every woman Love is theme of her work, not proselytizing “What changes the game is a woman who's 42, with 3 kids, newly divorced, just survived breast cancer..if i can make her feel beautiful, that’s changing the game.”   The more advanced and powerful we’re becoming as women, the more insecure we’re becoming about our physical appearance. That insecurity multiples in women’s heads in their relationships Mirror mantras! What passes through your lips is powerful How has your growth and self-confidence shifted your romantic relationships? Carmindy always knew she didn’t want to have children, so the ticking clock was never a factor “If I made decisions based on the heart over the ticking clock, I’d be a lot happier” Long history of bad relationships, even though she had fantastic role models in her parents and brother She would choose “projects” in the form of manboys A lot of women either give their power to a man who controls them, or give their power away by trying to fix them Her new relationship is about living in the moment, which is a direct result of her self-confidence.  The question to ask is, “Are we happy, today?” Do certain parts of self-confidence only come with age? Yes it comes with age, but you can also learn by listening to more confident elders There is no time limit! Being driven by ambition or trying to control everything makes you miss out on the moment of beauty that is right now. Don’t give a shit! Stop caring about what anyone else thinks! What do you think? How do you live in your Queenliness, when you’re in a season that is a dark night of the soul? Abusive relationships Many queens get into abusive relationships almost to challenge ourselves to see how powerful we really are...and then we get out. Reach out to other Goddesses and Queens Queens need their court! They don’t do it alone. Go through the fire Creative visualization. Keep visualizing, don’t doubt it. Pivot, reshape, play with clay, but don’t give up. If you don’t fail, you won't grow In the Ancient Egyptians' burial ceremony, to get to the afterlife, you had to fight the demons to go to where the gods live.  That’s  what happens in our life on earth. Going through her dark night of the soul has brought Carmindy to the happiest, strongest, most empowered place in her life. “Why?” is not always the best question. Things aren’t happening to you, they’re happening for you.  “What?” is a better question. What are you going to do with the situation? Once you’re through the fire, don’t look back. Ex: After her divorce, Carmindy’s view is that alimony isn’t alimony anymore, it’s a student loan from “love college.” You can look at one thing and see it three, four, five different ways. Why not choose the positive, funny way? It’s better, it’s lighter, it’s happier. From this moment forward two things could happen in the world: fear= new world order, masculine Positive collective consciousness=new order, feminine  What seeds do you want to plant with our audience to “Grow the Queendom?” Create your own destiny.  “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you have imagined.” Henry David Thorough   Q&A Gladys “how are you going to decide for yourself how you’re going to be beneficial in this time?” Here’s why I love this question: Just by asking the question, you’re putting other people first. When you shift your focus to other people, and how you can serve them, everything else shifts. When you focus on yourself, without remembering that you’re part of a bigger whole, you fall deeper into isolation and depression. Two pillars for getting through quarantine Get the focus off yourself, how are you going to be of service? What’s a healthy way to focus on yourself? Orgasm at least once a day. Intro- Personal intro to show What is “Queendom Come?” and What is “The Age of the Divine Feminine?” Everything in the universe exists on a spectrum of energy. Two opposite poles on the spectrum, flow and containing (feminine and masculine) This show is a space for us to practice dancing together, between these poles Avoid toxic femininity How do we do this dance? What does it look like to be a Queen  when you feel like shit? Energetic poles: Maro/Micro; individual/cosmic; institution/intuition; containment/flow; consistency/change; There is a dance of these energies happening within us all the time, and how do we tap into that, use it to create our Queendom? Whether you’re a King or a Queen, there’s at least a little bit of Queenly energy in you, and this show is for anyone looking to nurture those energies within themselves It’s our time. It’s our time to learn how to do this dance with grace; and love, and play, and fun. So we can teach by example, by our fun, by our joy, by our play, the masculine in all of us to embrace some of that feminine practice, to embrace some of his own Queendom as we step into ours. By stepping into your own queendom, you give space for kings to rise, you show other queens that they can do it too; you start changing the shape of the world so that it is more round, more feminine in flow to balance millenial of twisted masculine energy.  Every episode will include  Personal update Interviews with bad ass reinas, and kings who love queens and want to grow the queendom with us BEAM+Flow questions, from my work helping people unwind chronic holding  patterns, to help you step into the fullness of who you are.  Spoken word (“Moment of Flow”)   BIANCA JADE INTERVIEW Danielle Nottingham question: on a scale of 1-10 how hard is it to put on lashes? Strip Lashes are hard to apply. Buy the black glue because the white glue, even invisible glue, doesn’t fully dissolve. Black glue can be found at Sally Beauty and sometimes Sephora IG trick: apply black glue straight to lashline, and then apply strip lash on. Better because you’re not smudging the glue on the eyelid if you don’t get it just right. I use argan oil to my brows, and Bianca does too I use it soften my pubic hair, as a pube oil Pubic hair or no pubic hair? Let’s discuss (Listen to the podcast for more) Let’s talk about sex in your 30s and 40s Are the 30s the best decade for sex? Community keeps us young, and, after coronavirus, that need for community will be a good thing for Bianca’s sex life. Bianca and I met when she came in for a Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage session with me at HigherDOSE in Manhattan. BEAM+Flow (Body, Energy, Awareness, Movement and Flow) is my wellness company. Detox is a way of life, because there is an energy within us that is constantly being recycled and renewed. When we tap into that, amazing clarity flows through. How do you stay in flow while hustling without burning out? Everyone has their own approach, Bianca’s mantra is “Go the distance.” Mine is “See the magic.” “My way of being has turned off a lot of women and female friendships, because I have a lot of masculinity in my essence.” “My masculine energy helps me pay the bills, and keeps the brand growing.” Women don’t always respect masculine energies in other women, until those women are super successful and famous I asked Bianca how these former female friends would describe her? Blunt, aggressive, consumed with work--but these are friends who work in the same profession Bianca was able to “change my ways of being to accepting that the roles that don’t come truly were not meant for me” How to make peace with rejection or the unknown How to give something an awesome try and let it go THIS IS feminine energy We’re all a balancing act How did growing up in Saint Louis  shape your Latinidad? Jew-tina, and the Jewish side dominated her upbringing Grew up identifying as white When other people can’t see it in us, we sometimes forget that we have it College is where she began shaping her Latina identity Now, it’s everything. She tries to infuse her culture in all of her work. “What is your favorite thing to do alone” She doesn’t masturbate Playing with her dog is her favorite @Fridadoggy is her dog’s IG handle Words are like seeds of intention. The magic, the manifestation happens as we care for the spout.
