Today we dive deep into what are the things a hiring manager looks for in a resume when evaluating candidates, especially in the start-up space. Samantha is a people and value-driven marketing magician with a decade of B2B and B2C marcomms expertise. In the last decade, she's worked on rebranding organizations, launching tier-one SaaS products, building a PR engine, and developing the soul of the organization-also known as the brand. She is known for her vivid and authentic personality and her scrappy “make it happy” startup mentality. Currently, she spearheads the marketing and communications efforts at Torpago, a fintech startup shaking up the spend management space, as the head of marketing. Growing up, Samantha was raised to “go to war” and “be ten times better than the next person.” Her parents thought they were getting a corporate lawyer, but they got a marcomms generalist instead. She's the oldest of four and the only girl in a Puerto Rican and Portuguese-mix household. Outside of work, you can catch her creating content on TikTok, planning her next trip, or trying new restaurants in NYC, NJ, or Houston. OH! Job interviews can be daunting, and many unconscious biases are introduced. It is important for job seekers to be aware of the cultural aspect of interviews, as employers are looking to see if they are a good fit and mesh well with the company. People tend to be brought in for interviews if employers believe they have the skills and experience to do the job, but they are also looking for someone that they want to do the job with. It is important to be aware of this aspect of the job interview process.Confidence is essential in the job search process, especially during the interview. Employers are looking for someone who can do the job well and also get along with people at the company. It is important to prepare for an interview and to remember your strengths, as well as to interview the interviewer. Zipia conducted a survey that revealed that it takes an average person 24 weeks to go through the hiring process, with 6 applications being necessary. Women are 30% less likely to be selected for a job interview than men with similar qualifications. 40% of recruiters will not hire someone who is not confident in themselves. It is important to demonstrate confidence in a job interview without being cocky. Being aware of one's strengths and demonstrating them positively is key.Connect on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/eddianarosen/

In this episode of the Career Center Review podcast, Ediana Rosen talks about five tips for finding a job after being laid off. She explains that the cause of the layoffs is due to companies overhiring during the pandemic and making poor financial decisions. The most affected profession by the layoffs is talent acquisition professionals. Ediana then provides five tips for those that have been laid off. She suggests they create a list of companies they want to work for, update their resume and LinkedIn profile, create a plan of action, network, and be patient. She emphasizes that it is important to remember that being laid off is no fault of their own and that everyone is in the same boat.If you want to know more about what Eddiana did immediately after she got laid off DM on Instagram @careersinreview and ask "lay off podcast" and she will be happy to make an episode on that. Linda Evans is a strength-based career coach, speaker, and writer who specializes in personal branding. She earned a BA in American Studies and a minor in Ballroom Dance from Brigham Young University and an MA in Psychology Counseling from Columbia University. Linda resides in San Antonio, Texas. She started her virtual career coaching business, Launched by Linda, in 2011 and has worked in higher education for ten years in five universities. She is a Gallup certified Strength Coach and has certificates in Positive Psychology and Public Speaking. Linda started her career trajectory by volunteering and having part-time jobs mentoring other students in college. She then went on to pursue a master's program in counseling, which she dropped out of after two semesters. Linda then worked as an administrative executive assistant while earning her master's degree. Afterward, she got a full-time job as a career counselor at Columbia University and then tried academic advising but ultimately went back to career services. Along the way, Linda also had a side hustle where she started editing resumes of friends and family and then built it up to offering services such as personal branding, changing careers, practice for interviews, LinkedIn branding, and cover letters. Linda has also started doing podcast interviews, public speaking, webinars, panels, and writing articles for an international business online magazine. Linda's current goal is to take a break from her full-time career to look after her baby girl and eventually go back to get her PhD and become a professor. This conversation involved two people discussing the value of career coaches and how they can help people coming out of college. The speaker noted how college doesn't always teach students real world skills like how to navigate the corporate world, ask for promotions, or create a resume. They both agreed that having people like the other speaker, who has the experience and the perspective, is an amazing addition to college courses. The speaker mentioned that even though she has taken on the full time job of being a stay at home mom, she still plans to continue her side-hustle and grow professionally online and with clients. She also talked about how she is naturally a good listener and that she knew she wanted to be a career coach. In this conversation, the speaker talks about how to craft a successful personal mission statement. The speaker recommends doing a self-inventory of interests, strengths, personality traits, values, and goals in order to come up with a list of words that describe oneself. These words can then be used to create a one-sentence mission statement which should be short enough to be memorized. The mission statement should be something that is both aspirational and reflective of who one is currently, and feedback from people who know the individual well should be sought to ensure the mission statement matches who they are. Lastly, the mission statement should be a source of motivation and inspiration and be able to bring out joy and energy when needed. The conversation discussed the importance of writing a mission statement that goes beyond just one's job. It should be something that applies to all parts of life, such as whether one is employed, unemployed, volunteering, or retired. This mission statement can be very helpful in decision-making and gives a person a sense of direction in life. The conversation also touched on the difference between job, occupation, career, and calling. A job is a specific place with a specific job title, while an occupation is the category of jobs, such as nursing. A career is an extended amount of time, including education, experience, awards, and skills. A calling is how a person views what they are doing and is often related to religion. An example was given of three workers laying bricks on a religious temple and how each of them viewed the work differently.Connect...
AH! This is THE BONUS EPISODE to explain why I took a break, I discussed the topic of social media burnout. According to Mayo Clinic, burnout is often related to work and involves exhaustion, reduced accomplishment, and a sense of loss of personal identity. The podcast is going focus on careers, and I am looking forward to bringing new content to you the listener.I was feeling so fulfilled while helping others in the same community I come from and how I was using social media to make an impact. I break down the episode into three acts-- the breaking point, stepping away, and the lesson learned. In the first act, I talk about how social media accounts began to grow significantly in the fall and winter of 2021, leading to more recognition, bigger networks, and a larger community. In the second act, I talk about why they stepped away from social media and their job. In the third act, the speaker talks about the lesson they learned from taking this break and how they plan on ensuring that it doesn't happen again. I also discuss why the podcast is now called Careers in Review and why I wasn't able to talk about certain topics before. This conversation is about the importance of a relationship and how the relationship should come before anything else. The person in the conversation wanted feedback and advice on how to make a resume. I provided advice from my own experience, saying that I don't include any personal identifying information that could be used against them in the hiring process. They also took full responsibility in being careful about how their own values may be imposed on others. I was disappointed and hurt by the comments on the video, as the person who created it condoned the name-calling and offensive language. You will have to listed to the episode to find out more but hope this gives you gist.Let's get together as a community and realize that we all need breaks sometimes but what is most important is how we come back and the lessons we learn from the break. Welcome to episode number 3 of the Side Hustle Experience podcast. In today's podcast we are chatting about Protecting your Mental Health During the Job Search Process. Job searching can be hard and tough on our mental health, that is why we will cover the following: What is job search depression? How can I protect my mental health when looking for jobs Why do I feel depressed while looking for a new job Here are some mistakes to avoid first before putting your mental health at risk while looking for jobs: Shooting your shot - when you are not applying to the correct jobs you are setting yourself for failure You can be the most qualified person but applying to the wrong department and not have the amount of years of experience of even worse not tailoring your resume for that job, you are most likely not going to get that job Remember that companies are hiring the best possible employee that can match their culture, requirements and will be there for the long term. At the end of the day they are spending thousands of dollars in their hiring process You know one of the biggest reasons why we become anxious, worried and depressed is because someone else might be dependent on us bringing in income, so try to be kind to yourself and not put so much pressure on yourself since others are already doing it on your behalf. ------ Connect with me!
