Welcome to Sober·ish Uprising, a space where we share all versions of sobriety. We believe labeling sobriety as black and white is a limitation to those who know they want to do things differently and complete sobriety doesn’t work for them. On Sober·ish uprising we share sober·ish stories and the freedom that comes when we say no to booze. Hosted by Holly Krivokapich, a certified coach and former heavy drinker, who started a sober·ish journey in 2021 and her world has never been the same. www.soberishuprising.com

“When you change your relationship with alcohol, you build an unstoppable confidence? If I can do this, what else can I do?”  Today, I am a totally different woman than I was on September 13, 2021. I am so grateful for who she was and so grateful for who I am.  I am grateful I took an (alcohol free) shot at a sober•ish life because that changed everything. Today I share the top three things that are on my mind as I enter my 4th year of sober•ish life from cultivating courage to menopause and at the end of the day giving your body, mind and spirit all they need to live YOUR best life. Kristin - If the cost of drinking is your relationship with your kids. Isn't that too high?

“There's always a cost benefit. Now all it costs me is explaining to people why I don't drink. Drinking would cost me having my kids see rage mommy and that's too high of a cost.”  Loved my conversation with Kristin, who's been sober for 12 years... ish! Her decision to step away from alcohol wasn't an overnight realization. Between managing her own autoimmune disease and navigating her child's type 1 diabetes diagnosis, she began to realize that alcohol was no longer serving her health or well-being or her ability to mother the way she wanted. She shares that after being diagnosed with Lupus she removed alcohol (and made dietary changes) and a year later there was no trace of the Lupus.  She talks about how her sobriety enables her to take a pause, respond vs react and allows her to show up as the mom she wants to be for her four kids. As a parent coach she shares how it makes sense we have created community around alcohol and also the importance of redefining “self care” as ways we care for ourselves all day and not just a nice massage.  About Kristin Kristin Schmoke is a parent coach, mother of four, and has taught children 2.5 years old to college in her 25 year span as an educator.  She enjoys spending time near the water, gardening, and time with the family.  Her sober*ish journey started 12 years ago and she hasn't looked back! “I'm 41 and clearly having a mid-life crisis. Sobriety has given me a clearer picture on my values and what I want in this life. When I was drinking, I knew it wasn't working but I didn't have the strength to do anything.” Sarah found herself living for the weekend until the hangxiety of late boozy nights was debilitating and she knew in the depths of her soul she deserved better. On the morning after Easter in 2022 she knew she had to do something different. What followed was the mix of sadness and joy all leading to her midlife awakening as she gained the clarity to know what's important and the courage to act.  Here's what you can expect to hear.  Sobriety as a Life Transition  We talk about how sobriety is similar to other life transitions in that at first it does feel scary and daunting and you feel like you don't know what you are doing (because you don't!) but not to make that mean too much. Community as the antidote to Grief How the beginning of her sobriety was full of grief and depression and that the one thing that could have helped was having a community and learning to live life sober. Once she stepped out of the shame and shared her story, she began to see she wasn't alone. She took this and created AF Social + Life with her friend Laura. Drunk “Vulnerability”  We talk about how you can  truly never be vulnerable when you are drinking. And in fact when you are, or someone else is, while inebriated there's a sense of invasiveness and manipulation. Are you taking advantage of them? Is it true vulnerability if it takes 3 glasses of wine to share?  Grieving while drinking vs. Grieving Sober We discuss processing grief with the loss of parents and she shares the difference in the grief process for her mother and father, one she was sober and the other not, and I share how my sober•ish life provided so much healing during my dad's death.  It would mean the world to me if you subscribe, leave a review, and share this podcast with your friends, co-workers, and families. This will help the trajectory of this podcast and allow others who are seeking freedom from alcohol to find this podcast. About Sarah After 23 years of weekend binge drinking, Sarah said goodbye to blackouts and living for weekend cocktails.  She CRAVED connection with other women who felt the same way and needed to learn how to have FUN without alcohol!  After a phone call with her friend Laura, The AF Social was born. She brings her experience as a certified health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, as well as my extensive event planning and community building background. She LOVES seeing women connect and create meaningful friendships through The AF Social + Life. About Sober•ish Uprising  At Sober•ish Uprising we find freedom from alcohol on our own terms. Dave - Rock Star Life, Psilocybin and AA Alternatives

“If AA works for let's say 10% of people and that's as high as any support group goes. Let's say no one does better than that. If we have AA getting 10% and another method helping 10% and another getting 5%, won't that help more people?  There was no straight line to an alcohol free life for Dave. A musician from an early age, he was ALL in on the rock star lifestyle but realized in his early 20s he couldn't maintain that. He went to rehab and was alcohol free for 20 years until he wasn't. You would think it would have been a rager but in reality it was a couple beers, sobered up to drive home and woke up feeling great. The absolute worst thing that could have happened. He convinced himself he no longer had a problem and within weeks he had escalated back to his 20s drinking and drug days and eventually back to rehab.  In todays episode we discuss,  How he is grateful that his drinking was off the rails and damaging as he couldn't BS others that it was okay unlike his father who slowly drank himself to death.   How even if AA worked for 25% of people (which there are no statistics on) there are still 75% out there who are looking for other solutions to find freedom and the importance of finding your own path to freedom from booze (or whatever else is disrupting your life). And one of my favorite topics, how important it is to define our “drinking problem” and solution for what serves the person we want to be and how the best time to evaluate the role of booze in your life is actually before it becomes a problem. “First time I had cancer, I was scared. Second time, I was mad. Third time, I was relieved. I can drink what I want. Who wants to mess with a guy who has inoperable cancer?” Nick's resume reads like a work of fiction: Four-time cancer survivor. Motivational speaker. Arrested in Vegas for having sex with a hooker. But what's truly fascinating about Nick's story is how it mirrors the experiences of so many others—the universal quest for belonging, security, and love, juxtaposed with the desire to feel unique and special, which often creates a profound sense of separation. In today's episode, we explore: Terminal Uniqueness: How we use our perceived uniqueness to justify our actions and create separation, which can fuel addiction. The 'Me Against the World' Attitude: Why this mindset is a losing battle, given that someone loses and the world has been around for thousands of years. The Illusion of Strength: How building emotional armor might project power but often masks a victim mindset. Sobriety as a Daily Goal: Nick's number one goal each year is to stay sober. Even after 10 years of sobriety, he starts every morning with that intention. Remorse vs. Shame: Understanding the difference and how Nick holds no shame for his past actions, as he no longer identifies with that person. And let's give a shoutout to Nick, who celebrates 10 years sober on July 14th!  About Nick After being thrown out of a Las Vegas hotel in a drunken haze, jeopardizing his career and relationships, Nick Klingensmith had to make a change. A 4-time cancer survivor, type-1 diabetic, recovering alcoholic with herniated discs, nerve damage and sleep apnea, he defies it all when he finds Obstacle Course Racing. Refusing to accept his limitations, he's completed over 100 Spartan Races, 6 Major Marathons, several Ultras and scores of other obstacle and endurance events. “I started writing down ‘Why am i doing this?'. The first week was better sleep and then I noticed over time there were more reasons than I realized. As you start to go through the journey you start to uncover more reasons of the why which gives you more empowerment to continue for however long you want to go”  After being sober curious since 2019, Michael got serious about his curiosity last November setting a 6 month goal of sobriety.  As a regular drinker on the weekends, date night or social events he had tried previous stints of not drinking but felt ready to take on a larger mission after realizing that even after one drink things felt off the next day.  Raised in a non-drinking household where it wasn't talked about Michael got to college and not knowing how to handle his drink which led to excessive drinking as a young adult.   He then drank like a “normal” adult but realized that even after one beer or glass of whisky, his sleep would be off.  We talk about the power of data to not only look at how alcohol affects your body but also in identifying your drinking triggers and staying connected to why you quit in the first place. He shares the shocking statistic of his resting heart rate dropping 17% after quitting drinking and although that may not all be due to a direct correlation of booze, the better sleep, lower stress and increased activity that comes from not drinking certainly helped.  He talks about as the CEO of a high growth company,  how being sober is his growth edge when leading his company and supports him in standing out from the others. And also how speaking on this topic on such a public platform like LinkedIn and with this team he has received so much support.  While better health and professional growth is important, the most significant impact is on his parenting. As a late in life father he has found he is more present with his kiddos knowing that the day to day moments he used to rush through, like bed time, are now so much more special. And his kids are showing up differently too.  About Michael Michael is an introverted leader who shares meaningful and honest stories on LI. “It still feels like a miracle to me. How I was able to do something I never thought I could do. It's so important to connect back to moments like that when facing something difficult.” Justin Wolf started New Brew, a euphoric seltzer, about a year ago after leaving alcohol behind in October 2021. Despite looking like a well-adjusted human with a successful career and marriage, Justin was hiding a dirty little secret (or so he thought). An ultimatum and the healing power of psychedelic drugs led him to find freedom from alcohol and create his own sober•ish journey.  After years of traditional treatment from therapy to pharmaceuticals it was when he developed his own tool kit of support that he was able to truly step into his version of sobriety.  He shares about the importance of finding your baseline without any substance, including coffee, to know what it feels like to just operate as you and the power of showing yourself “I'm okay when I have nothing in my system.” We discuss how just because people don't want to drink alcohol doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to partake in an altering activity, it's just the booze that is destructive for them.   We talk about how important it is for young kids to know what alcohol really does to your body and mind as so much development is going on during the times that kids are taught alcohol is cool. This is such an important conversation as we are in a time where there are so many healing modalities outside of what we have traditionally thought of. I am so grateful for people like Justin and his team who are disrupting the booze industry and I could not be more in their corner. Check out New Brew at www.drinknewbrew.com. It doesn't have to mean anything and I didnt have to explain it. It looks like I honor myself.”   Stacey was never a big drinker as she always felt unsafe around those who were inebriated and never wanted to find herself in an unsafe place. She started to slowly drink more. It became a habit that didn't totally disrupt her life but she found herself spending more energy on it than she wanted. After spending time with me Stacey truly stepped into conscious drinking over habitual actions. Through her journey she has uncovered all sorts of goodies that she shares in today's episode.   How it was the impact after the drink that always caught up to her. The feeling of being bloated and puffy and then the thoughts that would spiral from there into more and more negative thoughts completely distracting her from the love she was meant to receive. How when her adult kids jokingly called her a  “party mom”, she was totally caught off guard as she did everything she could to NOT be perceived that way.How she realized she was  wanting to drink to fit in but the more she stepped into trusting herself she knows she can't be left out because she is complete with herself. About Stacey As an empowerment coach, Stacey firmly believes that true power emanates from within. “Alcohol robs you of your opportunity to cultivate your power from your own courage. When you are courageous sober you learn that you can trust yourself to do bigger and scarier things. And other things you thought were scary become less so and your edges continue to grow.”  This one is a spicy episode people so be ready. I met Whitney at a retreat where she led a session called … wait for it… Transcendent Orgasms. To say we were all terrified would be an understatement ( stay tuned till end when I share my story). Whitney fell into accidental sobriety almost 10 years ago when she became pregnant with her son. Having her first drink at 19 and never really loving the taste, but loving how it made her less inhibited, she made the choice to not introduce alcohol to her life. We talk about the permission slip (or an excuse) alcohol gives us to be fully expressed in a world that wants to tell us exactly how women should behave. How it's not sober sex we are scared of but sober vulnerability and how we must create safety in our bodies and courage in our souls and cannot do that authentically if alcohol plays a role. How you give your sexual power and expression and radiance to the care of a substance that really belongs to you and the exponential growth that comes when you take that power back. I am obsessed and a tad uncomfortable with this conversation which means it must be spoken about.   It would mean the world to me if you subscribe, leave a review, and share this podcast with your friends, co-workers, and families. “I said to this interventionist, ‘Look. If you take away my drinking. It's not going to stop the fact I'm a single mom or that I have this jerk of an ex-husband or that I work this crazy corporate job and that I'm barely making ends meet.' He smiled and said, ‘No but it will change you.'”  Margy recently celebrated 19 years of sobriety on February 7th but it was just a little over four months ago when she made this a public statement.  She took her first sip at 8, disgusted with the flavor and burn but intrigued by the warmth. Her drinking was “normal” through adolescent and young adulthood but took a turn after her divorce. She was head of PTA, single soccer mom of two with a corporate job and never missed any events but also never missed a detour to the liquor store.  Making it all look normal on the outside didn't trick her family as her brother hosted a family intervention that set her sobriety on track. Why 19 years of sobriety before being more public? At 10 years sober she shared her story on stage and was told by several influential people that she shouldn't share that piece of her because she would be judged. She quit speaking her truth until now when her passion for creating inclusive spaces outweighs fear of judgment.  She shares the way she justified her alcohol use for years including that wine tasting was an art and part of a nice dinner to it wasn't a drunk driving accident that ended with the jaws of life but bad weather. The power of having someone believe in you even when you don't and how seeing people  doing what you don't think you can is such an inspiration. We talk about the need to create sober inclusive spaces at all events and making events less alcohol forward (even drinkers are on board with this) and how sober inclusive doesn't mean no booze but not just events focused around booze.   She shares her term Sober Wingman, those who drink but are your 100% cheerleader and support system, and what a key role they play in the sober inclusivity movement.  About Margy Margy Schaller is a speaker coach and the co-founder of Sober Life Rocks.  She has been sober for 19 years but only recently felt comfortable sharing her sobriety in her professional circles. Sober Life Rocks is a membership-based community for people who are sober, sober-ish, sober-curious, and our favorite, our sober wingmen.  Our primary mission is to ensure that no one feels alone at business functions.  In addition to supporting each other in community, we are also working with meeting planners and event organizers to normalize sober choices by creating more sober-inclusive environments. “There was something more for me and it was going to take a choice to get to that point. I'm here for more. This isn't me.” A daughter of a workaholic and alcoholic, it made perfect sense Lauren would turn into both. After never being taught how to deal with emotion, anything that wasn't a high was bad which led to her chasing the high with alcohol, drugs and work. After a divine moment on NYE 2018 that either came from her mother who passed away or her higher self, she knew it was time to make a change. It took multiple attempts on her own, negotiations and more before she went to rehab and has been sober since.  Now sober for almost 4.5 years Lauren is unrecognizable from years ago and now works with women on their own health journeys.  We talk about how much energy it takes to keep up with life while drinking and how once you quit you have so much energy to live the life you want.  She shares about how she had to let go of ego and the humbling experience of going to rehab and how it was so painful she knew she could never go back there. We dive into the power of the gut-brain-mood connection and how alcohol impacts them all causing so many of the stressors we run from.  It would mean the world to me if you subscribe, leave a review, and share this podcast with your friends, co-workers, and families. “Sober•ish means creating your own definition for you. We can create our own rules. We can create what feels good to us. That is one of the most important things, “What feels good to me?, “Am I in alignment with my highest truth?” And creating that definition for yourself.” Unlike a lot of people, Adrienne had cut down on drinking during the pandemic as she wasn't out entertaining clients and socializing but it was during a plant medicine experience that truly changed her relationship with alcohol. She went in asking for clarity, energy, abundance and freedom and the answer was clear and simple, “Quit Drinking.” She shares how even though she received this divine message she still had an internal battle of not wanting to quit and then became curious about why she was fighting for something that didn't serve the woman she wants to be.  She shares how dating sober is different than dating while drinking and how a little alcohol can lead to second or third dates when sobriety cuts it off at one. And how this can go for friendships as well.  We discuss the power of habit stacking and how no matter if they are habits that distract you from your life or serve the life you want to lead, they'll grow and impact the version of the you, you want to be. “My biggest fear was my children wouldn't know how to be uncomfortable and would have to find a way to escape. I don't want my girls to think motherhood is martyrdom or they have to suffer to be a parent or have to escape it.”  Starlyn's last drink was 4 months before the start of Covid but she didn't know it was her last drink at the time. After battling anxiety for a long time she sought care and was prescribed anxiety meds and had to make the choice between continuing drinking and taking her meds. Scary in itself because her idea at the time was that drinking helped the anxiety but we know that's not true.  In today's podcast we talk about; How guilt (even mom guilt!) and shame is pretty much non-existent because she owns the decisions she makes and how she acts now and when she does do things she isn't proud of its because she is a human not because of booze.  How as someone who loves control she worked so hard to remain in control when alcohol was causing havoc on her life from eating healthy to working out as a way to prove alcohol isn't a problem. Now that it's gone she has control in a calm and productive way. The importance of feeling your feelings and being an example to your children so they can see healthy ways of coping has been an unexpected bonus and how she feels so grateful for her sobriety during her children's formative years.  And as a fellow “I do what I wanter” she has created no rules for her sobriety but is instead looking at it as choosing a life that doesn't involve booze. “My doctor asked me if I had anything else I wanted to talk about before I left and I said yeah ‘Am i an alcoholic?'”  Allyson, a guide, healer and coach, still found herself like many of us having the realization that drinking may not serve her but not committing to the change for years. With a complicated family story deserving of a white board sketch, Allyson started drinking in her early teens but gave it up shortly after when she saw the destruction it caused. Her drinking would ebb and flow but she slowly saw it increase to the point where one two many glasses of wine led her sobbing on the floor and finding her way to sobriety, recently celebrating one year on October 22nd.  Allyson shares about how when she was presented with the idea that she was dependent on alcohol it was enough to make a switch because as an independent, driven woman she didn't want to be dependent on anything.  She shares about the labels of a drinker and that she doesn't see herself as an alcoholic or dependent but rather an avoider who used alcohol to avoid the pain she was in. We talk about how unfamiliar truly feeling your feelings can feel when we've been damping them down for years with alcohol. And how mind blown she has been at the change in friendships once she became a non-drinker and that other's responses are rarely about you but their own stuff. April - Juice Isn't Worth the Squeeze

April grew up in an environment where alcohol was plentiful, never taboo and part of the fabric of her family. She had her first drink at 7 and remembers a time she went drink for drink with her dad at 14.   As she grew into adulthood April continued to see the conflict within booze. She felt a healthy fear and respect toward alcohol. She had seen what alcohol could do to someone AND that it's a way to come together. Like for most of us the mixed messages were loud and clear.  April calls it her “freshman year” at 30 where she drank more than normal but always in the back of her mind knowing the risk of alcoholism was there. Adding to it was the industry she worked in, a work hard/play hard booze environment (much like her family). She slowly slowly started to realize that the juice wasn't worth the squeeze especially for a woman living with an autoimmune disease.  Sober since 2017, April made a declaration of sobriety. An honoring of the knowing inside that she just couldn't keep on.  In today's episode, The Juice isn't Worth the Squeeze, she shares how it took two years after truly realizing that drinking wasn't great for her body to officially cut alcohol out of her life.  She shares how despite doing so much to take care of herself with her autoimmune disease, she was giving her body an incredible task of ridding itself from alcohol and she just couldn't do it anymore.  We talk about the importance of not overriding your body and ignoring it when it is yelling at you to stop. It would mean the world to me if you subscribe, leave a review, and share this podcast with your friends, co-workers, and families. A young, sober Wendell attended more AA meetings by the age of 12 than most ever will. Wanting to spend time with his pops so he accompanied his father to AA meetings all over Queens, New York for years seeing all the different ways alcohol affected people. Those lessons and stories would stick with him AND he would still have to find his own way to being sober·ish. From drinking 8 days a week and using booze as an escape hatch to being mindful to how it impacts the way he shows up, Wendell shares with honesty his version of sobriety.  We talk about how we should all be more inclusive in our  social and professional networking opportunities so we don't leave out people who don't drink for whatever reason they choose.   He shares how the realization that he could drink while working lead him to create his “whiskey and work” playlist that eventually led to his version of “rock bottom”. We talk about how drinking plays into black and brown culture and how that altered his perspective of what a “drinking problem” was growing up on the streets of NYC in the 80s and 90s.  Inclusivity is something we talk about alot and we 1000% should be. Let's also expand our way of thinking about inclusivity when it comes to events with booze. By adding a mocktail station or making it a dry event, that can go a long way in ensuring all people can partake.  Love this podcast? Growing up the daughter of an alcoholic, drinking was never something that was appealing to Elizabeth until it became part of her job. Drinking is a part of our working culture but in this case it was literally her job as she worked in the alcohol branding industry. At the same time her career was taking off, her father was waiting for a liver transplant from his drinking.  Compartmentalizing the consequences of alcohol on her father's health and her work promoting the product that was killing him worked for a long time until it didn't. She shares the moment she was drinking whiskey with a client and couldn't even drink it down and that was when she knew she must make a change. We talk about the billion dollar industry designed to make us identify with a brand and buy it again, again and again and how “pick your poison” is a real thing. She shares that although sober·ish doesn't cure mental health, it is one of her many tools in her toolkit to face depression (reminder alcohol is a depressant!)  I loved hearing her story because so many of us who started a sober·ish journey did so because our actions were not aligned with who we want to be. What happens when you decide to change your relationship with booze and your partner does not ESPECIALLY when it's been a big piece of your relationship? Everything. Today I share my conversation with one of my favorite humans on the planet, Dr. Tarryn McCarthy.  A former thriving functional alcoholic.  A current thriving business owner and loving human.  Tarryn has been sober for 7 years and one of the biggest things that held her back was changing the dynamic with her husband as alcohol had been a piece of their love language for years. Or so she thought.  We talk about how she spent 5-6 years fighting to be sober, riddled with self-judgment guilt and shame and how if she had known she could have been gentler and kinder to herself how much easier her journey could have been. We talk about the fear that we won't be able to spend quality time or connect with our spouse if we don't drink but really that's not a connection at all and the importance of redefining how we do both to grow as a couple. We talk about the importance of owning our own journey and not stepping in to own our spouses is such a growth opportunity for both people and how personal radical responsibility plays a role in that.  And one I have been so guilty of doing!  Tarryn is a coach, a leader, a world changer who puts joy and happiness at the core of everything she does. She radiates joy.Thuy didn't start socially drinking until 22 and even then she could have taken it or left it but the messages of “you have to drink to be fun” were loud and clear. Slowly over the years she started to consume a little more than she may have wanted. Earlier this year she posted that even with all her personal development work one of her goals was to NOT GIVE AN EFF… SOBER. And she did! In today's episode we talk about the judgment that comes with drinking from both others and more importantly ourselves. How she never needed booze to have fun but how after years of drinking we tend to think so and how the aha that she was dependent on something to have fun was a catalyst for her change. Of course digestion and sleep would get better but I was surprised at the mental space it opened up. Looking back I was amazed at how much mental space alcohol took up.”  Today I chat with Erin Godin, a health coach, who like most of us who enter into our 40s did some serious self reflection asking herself the question. Am I doing the things I need to be doing to be the woman I want to be?  There was one area of conflict so she decided to go sober in 2023. New Year. New Erin.  Almost half way through her sober journey, she has zero plans to return back to drinking, especially to her old habits of which she ranked ten steps above a social drinker. She shares about the whisper she heard that things could be different and how the foundation of that whisper was living out of her values. We talk about the power of community, whether in your home or online, that is so important when you are doing something that the world around you doesn't understand.  And how the power of finding confidence and making a declaration for yourself sets you up for success and gives you the power to move forward.  To learn more about Erin and the work she does, give her a follow on Instagram @eringodinfitness. It's a big one because even if I had worked through all the other BS I told myself, this one would have kept me stuck.  I knew I needed to quit drinking but all I saw around me was AA and complete sobriety for the rest of my life and both of those felt so out of reach. I felt deep in my heart the WHY of redefining my relationships but the HOW would overwhelm me every.single.time.  This to me is why I created my sober·ish journey and because of it Sober·ish Uprising. You need to stop drinking”  but like most of us excused them away. In January of 2023 gave the ole “Dry January” a try and has been sober ever since. She started sharing her journey on tiktok and has grown to 20K followers showing the  curiosity we are starting to have in sobriety. In honor of Mother's Day we spent a lot of time talking about the intertwine of mommy and booze culture and why momming is so much easier sober. Erin is vulnerable and honest and hilarious and adorable. A quadruple threat.  She shares how after the births of her two daughters, fresh out of delivery, she was ready for that beer and it didn't' seem weird because it was so normalized in mom culture.  How shame and not enoughness and the insecurities of being a mom was the big driver to medicating with booze which in turn made it so much harder.  She shares the ways she is a better mom when she is sober and how she can't believe she thought she was getting away with it thinking her kids didn't see or feel a difference. This blew my mind and reinforced why we need to continue to have these conversation about what sobriety looks like because we all have to create our own path.  In today's episode we talk about, - How despite knowing she had a problem, she made the excuse that until her sober husband recognized she had a problem it wasn't that bad.  - How the thought of Italy without booze was a myth but now she knows that she can do all she ever wanted but it will just be so much better.   - How sobriety sucked at the beginning and it wasn't all rainbows and puppies but it was the small wins like watching a movie sober with her kids that kept her going.  Where to find me: www.instagram.com/soberishuprising  www.hollykrivo.com Where to find Staci:  www.instagram.com/smlbennett  It would mean the world to me if you subscribe, leave a review, and share this podcast with your friends, co-workers, and families. Although her exterior has changed, her heart, values and love for people has remained the same yet expanded in so many ways once she embraced who she was meant to be. This was such as special episode as we talk about her recognizing at the age of 9 that something was different and at the age of 13 seeing a trans woman and feeling something in her stir but in the same moment feeling the shame. Remington shares the years of pushing down who she was meant to be to live a life society instructed her to and that it wasn't until the birth of her son that she had the courage to honor her truth. We also talk about how her faith has changed over the years and how she is a better bedside chaplain now than when she was presenting as a man. I have never seen someone trust themselves to disrupt the norm in such a big way and as gracefully as Remington has. This podcast was an honor to share with you. * A word about today's conversation: While this is an important episode with so many positive messages, there is some adult language and we do touch on several topics that could be triggering including assault and suicide. Please take care listening.* www.hollykrivo.com --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soberishuprising/message

Today I sit down with Shelley Pernot, published author, certified coach and founder of Babes without Babes in Austin. Spending time with like-minded people with whom you don't have to justify your decision is huge when you are doing something different from the norm. You don't realize you miss a community of people like you, for whatever it is for you want for your life, until you see it. We talk about how the organization started out of anger and resentment (like all good causes right?), how it wasn't until she recognized the complexity of the parent/ child dynamic that she boldly stated her choice of being childfree and how finding your purpose is really a crock of you know what. On the fence and struggling with making the decision once and for all if you want kiddos ? With my free download, "The Kid Question," you'll identify and release your perceived obligations and expectations — your should shackles — so you can decide your future on your terms. www.hollykrivo.com/tools. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soberishuprising/message
