Our biggest local con starts today, Fan Expo Denver. Over the past 10+ years, it has become a juggernaut. Some highlights this year, for me at least, include a pretty comprehensive Scream and Goonies reunion, most of the cast of The Boys, all the Hobbits, and a huge amount of voice actors, including Michael Bell, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, and Matthew Wood. It has ballooned to a 4-day event. We'll do our shopping early today, then we do panels most of the time, and we'll squeeze in the exhibit floor as we have time. One of our favorite things to do is hit up celebrity row. Or I should say rows, nowadays. Since we're not big autograph people, we're too cheap, we love just walking that area and seeing our favorite celebs interacting with fans, hanging out, or even just being on their phones.
Luckily, I'm out of the reselling mindset and just get to care about things I love. Star Wars showed me a lot of love in their latest Fanstream, but nothing like their SDCC TVC Clone Wars homage. The Masters movie is showing off a ton of characters, but I absolutely love that they are featuring a focus character of mine. To see the movie Roboto in the Origins line so soon makes me very happy. The Transformers line I love the most is making Dinobots, and my boy Snarl is on the way. No Joe news this time around, but I'm still loving this TRU Acid Raid collab.

I completely Star Warsed myself out yesterday. If you're in the group or follow me, you probably got a lot of spam about what I was watching all day. However, as I write this, I'm watching the third Family Guy Star Wars special, It's a Trap. Why? I have mild OCD and must finish a 3-part series after watching the first two parts. It truly is a sickness. With that being the case, I really don't want to write a whole post because I do truly love these.
There is recent evidence that OWCP (under the U.S. Department of Labor) has increasingly began to outsource significant portions of claims-related services for FECA (federal workers' compensation) to third-party vendors, including private companies traditionally known for state workers' compensation claims management. This is a change in the entire structure of the FECA and OWCP government division's responsibilities. OWCP has been slowly outsourcing divisions of OWCP to outside contracts in the form of third party vendors. This began with medical bill processing (e.g., past transitions to vendors like CNSI now called ACCENTRA) and medical authorizations. This began when OWCP decided to outsource the pharmacy benefits to an outside corporate vendor called OPTUM, a pharmacy benefit manger to manage all of OWCP's pharmacy benefits. We can expect to see an increasing amount of companies continue to be added for specifically handling broad OWCP claims adjudication, the overall trend of outsourcing to experienced private-sector TPAs vendors from the state workers' comp ecosystem is now the wave of the future. Need to wrap this up, so I'm just going to point out my favorite stuff without any attempts at wittiness, but with the inevitable verbosity. For such a crappy start, there were so many good things in this show. When a well-done homage to a fan favorite concept is not even in the top three, you know it had to have been fire. Then there was the new Amazon Exclusive Gaming Greats Clone and Droid Training 2-Packs. Of course, Masters is just on another level with the new movie coming in hot. My favorite? An Optimus Prime that transforms into the Autobot symbol. But there was so much more.

As I mentioned on the show, my absolutely favorite reveal, despite its duck-billed alt mode, was Krannix from the Transformers '86 movie. Talk about holes being filled. For Joe, the addition of dinosaurs to the line is extremely interesting, even if it's just a momentary distraction. Masters of the Universe, of course, went off. With two different lines similar enough to be confused, at least by me, we have a ton of options. But, that Trap Jaw with an articulated jaw, am I right? Star Wars blew their load pre-Toy Fair, but being an arctic guy, let's just say, I want everything.

What if delivery isn't a cost center, but your biggest growth engine? Most restaurant operators still treat delivery like a necessary evil. Today's guest knows better. What started as a delivery-only restaurant in India turned into a blueprint for Loop, a platform now powering $4 billion in digital restaurant ordering. In our conversation, Anand shares how he turned operational obsession into competitive advantage, what it really means to “win the algorithm,” and why delivery isn't the end game, it's the front door to growth. We get into the economic shifts redefining restaurant success, how digital ordering became the new drive-thru, and why resisting delivery is like ignoring your best customers. If you've ever felt stuck between low margins and rising demand, this conversation will change how you see your business, and highlight where the real opportunity lives. To learn more about Loop and how they're helping restaurants grow with delivery, visit loopai.com._________________________________________________________Free 5-Day Restaurant Marketing Masterclass – This is a live training where you'll learn the exact campaigns Josh has built and tested in real restaurants to attract new guests, increase visit frequency, and generate sales on demand. Are you dedicated enough to sit through overly excited marketing managers on the Star Wars Fanstreams? How about watching hours-long, overly produced Mattel Revealed events that feature your favorite line for about 5-10 minutes? I think nothing says dedicated like Artist Roundtable videos. Were you able to make it through the 45-minute session of What We Got to hear our thoughts on the new Master's teaser trailer for 20 minutes? If so, that's dedication.

Do you think these toy companies are changing for the good or for the worse? They seem to be dialing into the fandom, but at the same time, pricing many of us out of our casual lines. We'll have to see the price of these new Joe / TMNT crossovers, but they have definitely sparked collector interest. Transformers is attacking on every front, but those prices. The most exciting Star Wars news is from LEGO, but again, man, the prices. Finally, the best things from MOTU are 3rd party homages at a relatively reasonable price.

While writing a long introspective post about the new year would be par the course on most sites, blogs, what have you, I tend do that all year. So, because I have been putting off stuff since my birthday, I'll just leave you with this…

Shelly is a Cybersecurity Risk Solutions Architect for Safe Security. The topic for this episode is Rethinking 3rd Party Risk in 2026. Shelly and I talk about some of the unique challenges that companies are facing as more and more industries are using 3rd party tool that utilize AI. YouTube Video Link: https://youtu.be/yxLIrlIUT68
It seems like we blinked, and our hobby is so much more expensive than it was five years ago. We have long railed against the TVC markups, but for two primary focuses of mine to be revealed and so easily join the JOMO list is inconceivable. How about a once mainline MOTU figure being made into not only an exclusive, but a deluxe, with a final cost of getting it into your hand more than double since 2020? The exact thing is happening at Hasbro with their new Combaticon Swindle; it's not even an exclusive. Classified hasn't been immune either. With mainline going from $20 to $28, who knows what a Deep Six with or without SHARK could cost, let alone another Zartan with Swamp Skier.
Here are some things the big companies shouldn't be doing. Making previous exclusives non-exclusives just to sell stock. Asking about forums when they're not delivering what people are asking for. Trying to mimic that crazy era of the '90s color schemes on modern toys. Worst of all, creating something that most people would love, but making it so expensive that no one buys it.
Who doesn't love the goofiness of a Python Patrol Serpentor? Maybe a spatchcocked (thanks Brink) chicken gun with an 8-track tape is more your thing? How about a guy with an engine on his back and wheels for hands and feet? No, I'm not talking about Turbo Teen. The only thing new for Star Wars is old. Talk about pricing people out. Something that went for $35 15 years ago is now $99. Or, the identical thing with a much smaller release was $10 less a year ago.

To make things easier this week, on me at least, I'm going to pick my favorites from New York Comic-Con. Well, also because it's what took up half of the show this time around. Transformers was easy for me, can't beat an Ox and Cart Optimus Prime! G.I. Joe continues the movie goodness with their Cobra La Royal Guard. Star Wars continues not only their Retro line, but also does so with a third wave of A New Hope figures. Mondo carried the MOTU mantle. While their 200x line looks amazing, that price through.
There is just too much cool stuff coming out. While there was a ton of Masters news, I think everyone was most excited to see vintage Origins continue with Dragstor. Close behind, for me at least, is our first look at the next and most likely the last set of Masters of the Universe x Transformers figures. Something I don't need, but want oh so badly and will probably justify it as a decoration, is the new LEGO Star Wars gingerbread AT-AT. Finally, Joe continues the Mole Rat coolness with Stage 2.
It's Microsoft. Rumor has it that Microsoft wants out of the hardware business (surprise, surprise!) and that means Xbox may not have a new generation next year. But does that mean Xbox is dead? Maybe not. As we have seen: Xbox branded portable could lead into Xbox branded gaming PCs and so on. So, if 3rd party is close to dead in the US, and Microsoft is considering taking up that mantle instead of 3rd party - where does that leave Indie Games? Kickstarter. I've never been a huge fan of crowdfunding games (or movies to be honest) but it is undeniable that good things have come from the platform.
I feel like we've definitely been in a flow for the last few years, but how long can it last? Mattel is definitely in its rhythm with MOTU, especially with its new She-Ra and Swiftwind release. Hasbro, not so much with their new Shockwave Humpback Whale. However, the Classified cop looks like it might be one of their most popular non-exclusive releases yet. Star Wars shows off what the future of collecting might look like with their mixed reality playset, and I don't like it.
I love that we are finally getting an articulated G1 Ultra Magnus after almost 40 years. In that same vein, we're about to get a never-released character integral to the sometimes maligned, but mostly loved, G.I. Joe: The Movie. While a secondary character, Spikor was one of my favorites as a kid. I'm happy to see him receive the Sketch Series treatment. There wasn't any big toy news for Star Wars (until the next show), so we'll just go with that it's actually refreshing to get movie news.
Not a lot of time for reminiscing, especially considering it's a holiday weekend. Just want to remind everyone to do what they love, whatever that might be.

My favorite thing from this show is the super-chonky Cosmos from Earthspark. Star Wars has something we've never had before: a Hyperspace Pod with Probe Droid. Masters had a couple of amazing things, but Mondo's She-Ra and Swiftwind are next level. Nothing spectacular for G.I. Joe, so I'll toss in a favorite of mine, Spin Masters Batman Ninja figures.

This was recorded BEFORE Bryan Kohberger's Plea Deal- Ret FBI Breaks Down The Ridiculous 3rd Party Claim Kohberger's Team Wanted You To Believe In a startling courtroom twist, Bryan Kohberger's defense team attempted to introduce the notion of an unidentified third-party culprit responsible for the gruesome murders of four Idaho college students. Judge Hippler swiftly rejected this controversial tactic, dismissing it as unsubstantiated and unsupported by credible evidence. While some saw this as an act of legal desperation, others wonder if there's a deeper strategic motivation behind such an unusual and seemingly far-fetched claim. Retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke, a respected expert in human behavior, credibility analysis, and jury psychology, offers a detailed breakdown of why such third-party claims rarely find traction in high-stakes murder trials. Robin explores the psychological strategies employed by defense attorneys in introducing alternative suspects, even when they know the odds of acceptance are slim. Could the defense have hoped to subtly introduce doubt in jurors' minds before trial even begins? Is Anne Taylor intentionally planting seeds of confusion and uncertainty among potential jurors who inevitably follow news coverage closely? Robin dissects these subtle tactics, explaining the psychological dynamics that defense teams leverage to influence juror perceptions long before jury selection occurs. Drawing from extensive courtroom experience, Robin discusses real-world examples illustrating why juries typically reject vague third-party claims and how such strategies can potentially backfire, making the defense appear desperate rather than strategic. Robin also highlights the critical difference between effective doubt creation and overplaying one's hand with weak, unsupported claims. Join us for an insightful, behind-the-scenes look at courtroom strategies, psychological manipulation, and how modern trial tactics increasingly rely on shaping public perception.
