Fascia has been a hot topic in both research and hands-on therapy for some time now. While the idea that massage therapists affect more than just muscle isn't new, defining exactly what "the other stuff" is has proven trickier than expected. Today, multiple definitions of fascia are debated worldwide. To bring clarity and foster better communication, a new, unified definition has been proposed in the Journal of Anatomy (January 2025). Join hosts Rachelle Clauson and Nicole Trombley, co-directors of AnatomySCAPES, as they dive into this fascinating, global discussion, sharing insights from their recent participation at the Winter School Research Conference in Padua, Italy, on this episode of The ABMP Podcast. As massage therapists, we spend a lot of time mastering anatomy—learning specialized vocabulary and the locations of muscles, bones, and nerves in the body. We can take our anatomy understanding even deeper by looking not just at where our client's anatomy lives but also how their anatomy relates to each other: tissue relationships. In this third and final episode of the three-part series “Your Practice in 3D,” we discuss the concept of tissue relationships and how dissection lab trainings can improve a therapist's ability to understand the anatomy they touch. For most of us, seeing anatomy is the first step to understanding it. And anatomy understanding is an essential element of being a bodyworker. In this first episode of the three-part series “Your Practice in 3D,” we discuss the challenges of seeing the body in three dimensions and why so many massage therapists are heading to the dissection lab to study. In recent years, the world has been beset by a series of interlinked challenges, including humanitarian crises, mounting global debt, and the impact of the nexus of climate change, conflict, and hunger. Simultaneously, the imperative of addressing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires a shared sense of responsibility. In his address to the IIEA, Carsten Staur will discuss the need for balancing urgent needs against long-term development priorities, and will offer his reflections on the role of the DAC in navigating an evolving development cooperation landscape. Glen Nakata is the Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Affairs at Purdue University Fort Wayne in Indiana. In this episode, Glen joins our host Donna Schiele to talk about the value of attracting international students, building a team with people that bring something new to the discussion, and being inquisitive. “I want to bring people from different backgrounds, different regions, different countries to learn more from them,” he says. He talks about how as an organization, they only get stronger when they do that, not just as students but also as employees. “If you keep hiring the same people over and over again, what are you really going to learn?” He goes on to talk about why this strengthens their pillar of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Join us for a conversation with Glen as he talks about the importance of listening, learning to collaborate with everyone at the university, and always being transparent.
John Gums, PharmD, FCCP - Professor and Associate Dean for Clinical and Administrative Affairs - and Eric A Dietrich, PharmD, BCACP, CPC-A, CEMC, CPB - Clinical Associate Professor from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy talk with us about billing for pharmacy services. Key Lessons: A sustainable clinical practice model is formulated by creating a business plan that considers the services to be provided as well as reasonable estimates of the number of patient encounters, the duration for each patient encounter, billable revenues, collections, and costs. Evaluation and Management (EM) codes are used to bill services. The complexity of the patient encounter characterizes the "level" of service, ranging from level 1 (minimal complexity, self-limiting problem) to level 5 (High, Chronic Conditions, Severe Exacerbation, Disease Progression). Comprehensive medication management services provided by pharmacists are typically billed by a recognized provider (physician / nurse practitioner) using an "incident to" billing method. Pharmacists can also bill for transitional care management (TCM), chronic care management (CCM), and annual wellness visits (AWV) - but each of these services must meet specific conditions and requirements under Medicare Part B. Learning to speak the language of billers and coders is critically important. Consider training or certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) There is a significant difference between what is billed and what is collected. Pharmacists should track their time, number of patient encounters, billable units of services, and collections to determine if their initial estimates are correct. When there are discrepancies, determine the sources and address the causes. Check out these guidelines and resources on how to develop a business-practice plan and bill for pharmacists' patient care services: American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) - Developing a Business-Practice Model for Pharmacy Services in Ambulatory Care Settings American Association of College of Pharmacy (AACP) - Integration of Clinical Pharmacy Faculty in Professional Practice Care Settings National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) - Billing Guidance for Pharmacists' Professional and Patient Care Services

LGW is a thirty year organization with over fifteen hundred members who have gone through its Signature Program and who are among the top decision makers in the region. Mr. Duncan is best known for having served three terms as Montgomery County Executive, the top elected official in Maryland’s largest jurisdiction. The Washington Post has called him the best County Executive in Montgomery County history. In his highly successful 12 years in office, he developed, coordinated and implemented a wide array of initiatives on the local, regional and state levels, in partnership with multiple constituencies including residents, civic groups, unions, non-profits, the business and education communities, and other elected officials. He led Montgomery County through its transformation from a suburban bedroom community into a thriving urban center recognized for visionary land planning, its global technology industry, and vast open spaces and parks. The results of Doug Duncan’s landmark initiatives have been hailed nationally as models for other communities across the country. He successfully revitalized downtown Silver Spring, now a national model for urban redevelopment. He led the effort to fund and construct the Music Center at Strathmore, rated as one of the best concert halls in the country. And during an extraordinarily dangerous time in our region’s history, Mr. Duncan, along with Police Chief Charles Moose, helped lead this community through the DC area sniper shootings, where he earned the title of Chaplain for the region. In his career, Mr. Duncan also co-founded a continuous advisory services firm for state and local governments, was Vice President for Administrative Affairs at the University of Maryland College Park, was a National Account Manager for AT&T, and served as Mayor of Rockville, his hometown. Among numerous awards, Mr. Duncan has been named to the Washington Business Journal Power 100 and as a Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian Magazine.
Julia Fisher talks to Nabil Somara - Today finds us in Nazareth talking to an Israeli Arab Christian called Nabil Somara who is on the staff of the Nazareth Evangelical College where he is the Director of Administrative Affairs. Nabil was born in Nazareth in 1965 and has lived there all his life apart from a few years spent abroad to study. Today Nazareth is an Arab city where the majority of people are Muslim. But when Nabil was growing up, it was a predominantly Christian city. So what has happened there during Nabil's lifetime? Our aim is to build bridges... To build bridges of understanding and support, in a spirit of reconciliation, between believers (both Jewish and Arab) in the Holy Land (Israel and the Palestinian Areas) and Christians worldwide. olivetreefund.org nazcol.org
