On November 10, 1985, a hunter walking near the edge of Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, New Hampshire, stumbled upon a rusted 55-gallon barrel tipped over in the woods. Inside, he found the skeletal remains of a woman and a young girl, both wrapped in plastic. Authorities searched for answers, but the victims remained unidentified, and the case went cold. Then, 15 years later, investigators returned to the scene and made a chilling discovery—another barrel, just 150 yards away, containing the remains of two more young girls. A serial killer, a trail of destruction and a name police had never heard. In 1985 in Allenstown, New Hampshire, a blue barrel with the remains of a woman and a young child were discovered in the woods near Bear Brook State Park. Fifteen years later, a cold case detective made another grisly discovery, another blue barrel and two more victims, both of them children. As investigators began to retrace the steps of the man they knew as Curtis Kimball, they discovered that he had a connection to New Hampshire and the site where the remains had been found. After several decades, investigators finally discovered the true identity of a serial killer. Subscriber-only episodeThe Doodler is one of San Francisco's most infamous cold-case serial killers — although not for lack of leads. The Doodler is believed to have killed at least six and up to fourteen men in San Francisco between Jan. 1974 and Sept. 1975. He targeted gay men, likely luring them into sexual encounters before killing them and leaving their bodies on beaches or in parks around the city. Three men were somehow able to escape the Doodler's clutches and gave police a description of the man and a sketch was released to the public. Despite police repeatedly questioning one man, the  Doodler has evaded capture for nearly 50 years, but we hope he's next on the list for forensic genetic genealogy testing.Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD 24-hour tip line at (415) 575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD. He worked first at a local general store in Allenstown, he is later suspected of killing four, including his own daughter, then placing the victims in two oil drums, at the general store. It is estimated that there are well over 200,000 unsolved murder cases in the United States alone, with some dating back as far as the 1960s. And even if a killer is eventually discovered by the police, some of these cold cases remain a mystery as lack of evidence. The mystery of the Allenstown Four, also known as the Bear Brook murders, first unraveled in 1985 when two bodies were found hidden in a metal drum in a New Hampshire park. Over the course of the investigation, police narrowed down the possible suspects in the murders to a man who went by the name Bob Evans, a drifter who likely lived in dozens of states under dozens of fake names. The suspected killer was ultimately brought to justice for other heinous crimes and died in prison in 2010. In 2017, it was confirmed through genealogy matches that his real name was Terry Rasmussen, and that he was indeed the Allenstown killer. In 2019, three of the four bodies were identified; however, the fourth victim remains unknown. This is the story of the Allenstown Four.....    Follow all the madness on social media! On November 10, 1985, a hunter stumbled upon a 55 gallon barrel that contained the skeletal remains of a woman and a young girl. The remains were buried in the town cemetery. Their tombstone read "Here lies the mortal remains known only to God of a woman aged 23-33 and a girl child aged 8-10. Their slain bodies were found on November 10th, 1985, in Bear Brook State Park. May their souls find peace in God's loving care". The small community of Allenstown, New Hampshire would never be the same. 15 years later, in May 2000, a second barrel was found with the skeletal remains of two young girls. Local police determined the victims in both barrels were killed by the same person(s). In 2014, three of the remains were linked together by DNA. In 2019, the identities of the three were released: Marlyse Elizabeth Honeychurch (24), Marie Elizabeth Vaughn (7), and Sarah Lynn McWaters (11 months). Honeychurch was the mother of Marie and Sarah. The suspect remained unknown for a long time until 2017, when it was determined that Terry Peder Rasmussen was the suspect. Rasmussen died in prison while serving a life sentence in 2010.

The podcast also examines the ramifications of DNA testing on identity, privacy and the criminal justice system. In this episode of MetaPod, Jason Moon talks to us about the unique characteristics of the case. He also discusses how the NHPR team avoided the pitfalls of the “true crime” genre and the original music that he composed for the podcast. The Bear Brook murders or the Allenstown four, is a case where, we know who the serial killer is, before we know who the victims are. An adult female and 3 female children were discovered in barrels. The murderer is Terry Rasmussen and he was dubbed The Chameleon. He used several aliases and each time he killed, he changed his appearance and moved. Three victims in the barrels were identified as Marlyse Honeychurch, Marie Vaughn, and Sarah McWaters. One of the children remains unidentified. There are other murders and disappearances wrapped in this story as well. Drinking The Cool Aidhttps://ratethispodcast.com/coolaid

Old style had the first day of the year as March 25th, Lady Day. In 1752, English speaking countries switched from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar, which changed the beginning of the year to January 1. That year Wednesday September 2nd, was followed by Thursday September 14th.. Between 1623-1640 when NH was “independent” it had no seal since John Mason only had a grant and had no charter. The 4 towns of NH operated autonomously and didn't need a seal. 1641-1679 NH was united with Massachusetts and used the Massachusetts Seal In 1680, when John Cutt became “president” of NH, separate from Massachusetts, a new seal was made. Only one impression of that seal has been found, but it is in bad condition 1682 Edward Cranfield seal Feb 1685 James II ascended the throne and threw a wrench into how the colonies were organized. In October 165 James II commissioned Joseph Dudley President, to rule over the Territory and Dominion of New England, consisting of Massachusetts Bay, Maine, New Hampshire and the Narragansett Country, or King's Province. In May 1686 the separate governments of the provinces united into the Dominion of New England were superseded by the central government so established, and their respective seals had no authority. (boo) Later that year, Sir Edmund Andros took over as President and the dominion enlarged to include New Plymouth and Rhode Island. Connecticut was added in 1687 New York and East and West Jersey added in 1688. In Boston April 1689 news from England reported that James II was overthrown and Andros himself was overthrown by a popular uprising. From then until March 1690, was without any government, either by appointment of the Crown or by its own people, so the towns were obliged to take care of themselves! (gasp!) Unfortunately, In March 1690 NH towns were for the second time, in Massachusetts jurisdiction and afterwards sent their representatives to the General Court in Boston. Luckily it was short lived. March 1692 Samuel Allen was appointed governor of NH. New seal made. Allenstown is named after him. Richard Coote, 1st Earl of Bellomont was made governor in 1699. He was the first of many governors that were joint governors with Massachusetts until 1741. Each Seal of New Hampshire in the Colonial Era had whatever the Seal of the Union of Great Britain Inscribed in Latin was with some variance on “The Seal of the Province of New Hampshire in New England.” In 1775 the colony developed a separate colony seal with a fish on the left and a pine tree on the right with 5 arrows bundled in the middle to signify the 5 counties at the time and the 2 major industries on NH at the time. In 1776 after independence was declared the seal had the words, “Vis Unita Fortior” until the adoption of the state constitution in 1784. It means “Strength united is stronger.” Suggestions/Feedback Do you have a topic that you would like for us to discuss?
