JJ Julius Son of @kaleoofficial is here this week, and I'm super excited to share this one with you!! JJ's been in the US for over a decade now and proudly celebrates his native Iceland and its vibrant music community. Having grown up on the classic rock albums, JJ has crafted his own anthemic sound, culminating in the vast soundscapes present on his new album, MIXED EMOTIONS. JJ's unfiltered and stripped down vibe is super refreshing and we share tons of laughs as he talks to me about his love for live music, Icelandic folk tales and the energy of the live show. Having toured the globe now for the better part of his time in the America, JJ has tons of stories and insights and we go deep into his onstage mindset and how the energy from his fans and his own staunch determination continues to fuel his tank. This is a fascinating conversation — JJ is a deeply compelling artist with a powerful voice both on and off stage. Want to reach out to us? Want to leave a comment or review? Want to give us a suggestion or berate Anthony? Send us a text by clicking this link!In this raw and heartfelt episode recorded just hours after Pope Francis's death, three Catholic commentators process their complex emotions about the end of a challenging 12-year pontificate. The conversation navigates the difficult balance between respectfully mourning a spiritual father while honestly acknowledging the pain many traditionalists experienced under his leadership."I really didn't think it would ever end," one host admits, capturing the shock felt by many Catholics worldwide. The discussion explores how Francis's papacy, while divisive, unintentionally fostered a revival of traditional Catholicism by driving faithful Catholics to deepen their understanding of the faith and form meaningful communities. "The three of us don't know each other without Francis," they realize, reflecting on how adversity created unexpected bonds. The hosts offer a sobering perspective on the upcoming conclave, which they believe could be "one of the most consequential in Church history." Their analysis of potential papal candidates reveals both hope and concern about the Church's future direction, particularly for traditionalists who lost access to their liturgical traditions. One host provocatively suggests, "We're going to look back on the Francis pontificate with fondness," fearing that challenges could intensify under new leadership.Beyond ecclesiastical politics, the conversation touches on deeply personal spiritual journeys through Lent, experiences watching The Passion with children, and the special circumstance of new Catholics who entered the Church at Easter only to witness a papal death the next day. Through it all runs a thread of faith in God's providence even in difficult times. What will you take from this candid conversation about faith, leadership, and navigating religious turmoil? Not long after our flight home from California, we got some faith shaking news. At the end of July, the well known singer, Keith Green, had died in an airplane crash. I don't remember how we heard about the accident; maybe a call from our friends in Eureka, or in the newsletter from his ministry. The report said that Keith and friends, had taken off in a twin engine plane on the private airstrip, of their ministry housing in Texas. Keith wanted to take visitors on an aerial tour of the property. There were a total of 11 people, that included Keith, his two and three year old, plus a family with six children on that plane. Keith's wife, Melody who was pregnant, stayed home, with their one year old daughter. The plane crashed after take-off, and it was determined later, that it was overloaded beyond the operating limitations. Keith was an example as a pioneer in Christian song writing for Thomas. We had a couple of his tapes, and received his regular newsletter, called Last Days Ministries. We had a lot in common with him, coming from the Jesus People movement. I think we bought his newest tape, called “Songs for the Shepherd,” in California, at the Christian bookstore.

In this sermon, Pastor Kevin Goff explores the role of emotions in our spiritual growth. He emphasizes that while emotions can lead to personal development and encouragement, they must be processed in alignment with God's truth. By trusting God and focusing on His Word, we can navigate life's seasons with steadfast faith, allowing trials to build our character and strengthen our hope.
Sometimes we feel just one single feeling with overwhelming force. We're joyously happy. We're crushingly sad. But sometimes it's more complicated than that: We feel happy and sad at the same time. This week, we revisit a favorite 2022 episode with psychologist Naomi Rothman, who shares her research on the mixed emotion of ambivalence. She explores how being of two minds changes the way we think, and how it changes the way others see us. Did you catch the first two episodes in our Emotions 2.0 series?
