Andy Mitchell & Anil Seth On Psychedelics, Philosophy & Consciousness

5x15's new season kicks off in January with a special conversation about consciousness and the world of psychedelics with two highly acclaimed authors, neuropsychologist Andy Mitchell and neuroscientist Anil Seth. The 'psychedelic renaissance' is upon us. While psychedelic drugs were once demonised, and are still largely illegal, they are now officially a 'breakthrough therapy' used to treat mental health disorders and enhance well-being. But there is a risk that making them safe or normal might ultimately destroy what makes them potent. What is at stake in normalising substances that alter our consciousness? In his book Ten Trips, Andy Mitchell argues that we should embrace what is strange and valuable about these drugs, less as a prescribed antidote for certain conditions than as a way to rethink mental health itself, and re-enchant us with the world. The psychedelic experience is, after all, part of the rich tapestry of consciousness, which is also not as simple as it once seemed. In his 'exhilarating' book Being You, the neuroscientist Anil Seth shows that our conscious experience is made of billions of neurons working together, and offers a radical new theory of self and what it means to 'be you.' Don't miss this eye-opening conversation with two pioneering thinkers, who will share unique insights about how we think, feel and experience the world. Praise for Andy Mitchell, Ten Trips "Original and thrilling" - MIKE JAY "A dazzling, timely book, as deep and poignant as it is madcap and hilarious - exactly what you'd want from a book on psychedelics." - PROFESSOR MARK LYTHGOE "Utterly compelling" MARK MIODOWNIK Praise for Anil Seth, Being You "Anil Seth thinks clearly and sharply on one of the hardest problems of science and philosophy, cutting through weedswith a scientist's mind and a storyteller's skill." - ADAM RUTHERFORD "Being You is an exhilarating book: a vast-ranging, phenomenal achievement that will undoubtedly become a seminal text." - GAIA VINCE, Guardian Speakers Andy Mitchell is a neuropsychologist and therapist. He has specialized in treating patients with rare brain conditions, head injuries and epilepsy, and in the application of mindfulness for neurological patients. He is originally from Leeds Anil Seth is a leading British researcher in the field of consciousness science. The conflict in the Middle East has had repercussions throughout the wholesale distribution industry. How will this impact wholesale distribution in the United States and globally? To answer that question, we brought in Will Quinn, "The Distribution Guy," to get his expert analysis on the situation. Andy Mitchell could be called a "doctor for business." His firm, Lantern Asset Management, buys up businesses in immediate need of cash and willing to sell at bargain-basement prices. Michael Lewis calls up Mitchell to get the "distressed asset" angle on the company at the center of Lewis's next book: the now extremely distressed crypto exchange, FTX. But along the way, we hear about other businesses on the skids, including the maker of Twinkies, and the Weinstein Company. For decades infrastructure sector clients have waged a battle to improve the supply chain's woeful design and construction productivity, driving down costs and accelerating delivery times. But In reality, more effort should be focused instead on the drive towards better overall asset performance and achieving better overall economic and social outcomes. How can this focus be switched? To discuss this issue, my guest is Andy Mitchell, chief executive of Tideway, in charge of building the £4.3bn 25km super-sewer beneath London, one of the UK's largest current infrastructure projects. Andy was also, until recently, co-chair of the Construction Leadership Council, playing a key role in helping the sector to work with government to improve.

Episode Overview: Emotional eating is a common struggle that can lead to negative consequences such as weight gain and decreased self-esteem. With years of firsthand experience in the world of food obsession, our guest, Hunter, has the tools you need to find freedom and hope. As a certified emotional eating coach, she has supported many individuals in the journey to overcome emotional eating, lose weight and stop thinking about food so they can be free to live fully.   Questions Answered: What can you do when you want to lose weight but don't know how to break your patterns? How to know if you need to work with an emotional eating coach. The number one thing most people have trouble with when it comes to emotional eating and how to break that habit.   Action Items: Check out the book, It Was Me All Along by Andy Mitchell, which Deanna recommends in the episode. Find the support you're looking for and book a 20-minute discovery call with Hunter. Download Hunter's four-step guide to overcome emotional eating and stay on track with a healthy eating program.   Key Moments in the Conversation: [10:35]  Stopping your thoughts about food may not be a quick fix, but there are steps you can take. It's everything from what you can do physically when you're feeding your body to help those cravings, what you can do to deal with your emotions, and what you can do mentally for mindset change. [13:47] Do I want to be thin and fit into all my clothes? Of course. But my biggest thing is to have the energy to do all the things I love to do and play with my granddaughter. If I am not nourishing my body the right way, then I can't. [16:44]  It used to be that we did these things in secret and we didn't have people to talk to. Now that's the biggest message I want to get to people - you are not alone, you've not done anything with food that I have not either done before or had a best friend do. [22:27] I think slow is so much better than a quick loss because slow is more sustainable.    Connect with Hunter: Check out her website Follow her on Instagram Join My Programs Balance Eating Method Balance Program

AJ Witt from The ITAM Review & Andy Mitchell from Oomnitza discuss the opportunities offered by the implementation of Enterprise Technology Management (ETM). Enterprises have always had core systems to provide support for mission-critical functions. Examples include CRM systems such as Salesforce, financial systems such as Netsuite, or HCM systems such as Workday. What has been missing from this is the equivalent for technology, and this is where Enterprise Technology Management tools and processes can help. ETM lets organizations automate IT processes through the asset lifecycle, from purchase through end-of-life – leveraging their existing systems and tools. This allows IT leaders to have greater oversight over the technologies, budget, and resources supporting their business, while empowering IT personnel to gain operational efficiencies and reduce mundane tasks.
