A long planned TAX MARCH will occur in DC and across the country this Saturday, April 15, 2017 HWhy We March: President Trump is the first president or major-party presidential candidate in four decades to refuse to release his tax returns to the public. We march to demand that the president release his returns, as he has repeatedly promised, but failed, to do. We march because it is in the best interest of the American people to know what financial entanglements and conflicts of interest our leaders have. Because we need to know if the president is personally profiting from the policies he is proposing. And because we want know if he has contributed his fair share of taxes. We march because we will not stand by while the rich and the powerful govern this country guided only by their personal best interests, and not the best interests of the American people as a whole. Read more at https://taxmarch.org/principles-dc-march/ One of the founding goals of Coffee Party USA was Tax Reform. We consider the system broken, not bad. Journalism and Activism: the witness and the witnessed. In this day and age the world, and especially the online world, is awash in communication. The vast majority of this communication, however, is not news and especially not journalism. (If you did any of the homework reading you will recognise this quote from AmericanPressInstitute.ORG). Guest journalist Cheryl Hatch will help us understand the difference. Full disclosure. Cheryl and I have known each other for over 20 years. She was my husband’s journalism student. We met when she returned from Iraqi Kurdistan during Desert Storm. I have had the pleasure of witnessing Cheryl’s career evolve. Cheryl is just back from a trip (as a journalist) to Standing Rock and she and I will be attending the Women’s Rally in Washington DC on January 21st. She will attend as a journalist. I will attend as an activist. ****** Follow Lunch with Louden on Facebook Follow Coffee Party USA on Facebook and visit our Web Site Become a BE THE MEDIA supporter by becoming an annual member or a monthly sustaining member.
Kevin Kelly is a man with a rich background in writing and science. His wisdom and thoughtfulness is pervasive in not only his writings but also his lectures. He's someone with an eye and ear to the future, looking at both trends and technology paired with the human psyche to see what futures await us. The artistic side of this approach to vision casting is brilliant. It's also intriguing. How I came to understand and embrace Kevin's theories on growth goes back a few years to when I was starting my first endeavor in the creative entrepreneurial realm. The Birth Of The SuperFan IdeaBack in 2008, while starting the initial syndication build for The Appetizer Radio Show, I first met an artist who would become a good friend. William Fitzsimmons had transitioned from one career as a therapist into becoming a full-time musician. He wasn't famous, but he did have a really strong core audience that propelled his growth.Years later, I'd connect with several other artists who'd share with me how they'd built their growth strategy around reaching 1000 true fans. It was a theory created by Kevin Kelly in an article he wrote that was published a few decades ago. Intrigued, I looked it up and found it contained the exact formula I was using to build my platform.Fast-forward to this past summer. My good friend (and fellow DIY Artist Router) Chandler Coyle told me of an opportunity to speak with Kevin. Kevin has a new book out called The Inevitable, and was looking at some artistic, entrepreneurial and marketing related podcasts to get on to promote the book. I put my name in the hat and was privileged to get to connect with him.The result of that connection is this podcast episode. It's been several months in the making, but it's brilliant on a variety of levels. The are several things I loved about talking with Kevin Kelly, especially how down-to-earth and open he is. It was like talking with an old friend. He's also incredibly objective, which is refreshing for someone who has done so much in their careers.A Brief Bio On Kevin KellyKevin Kelly is most known for being a writer, author, and co-founder of Wired Magazine. He's also got a rich history in science, photography and digital marketing. He's the founder of The WELL, a virtual community created with Stewart Brand. He's written for publications like The Economist, Esquire, GQ, and the New York Times. His lectures cover subjects ranging from marketing and economic growth to scientific and technological innovation. His writings and books include New Rules for the New Economy: 10 Radical Strategies for a Connected World (Penguin, 1999) and"Forward: 1000 True Fans," pp. 3–8, in Be The Media, David Mathison, editor, (2009), which is where the concept of the SuperFan was born.More insights into Kelly available on his website.Notable Quotes From This Podcast Conversation With Kevin Kelly"The best way to do research on the Internet is to say something and people will tell you that you’re wrong. Numbers aren’t as critical as just doing it.""The Internet was inevitable but the kind of Internet we have (wasn't). (There's a) shift to Internet of experiences away from an Internet of knowledge. Much more emotional and experiential overlay will take place.""Marketing (The Inevitable) on Twitter was something we did well. Tweeting once a day with a quote from the book was very successful."

David Mathison interviews Shel Horowitz, author of Guerrilla Marketing Goes Green (with Jay Conrad Levinson) Can YOUR Business make the world a better place? Can you improve the earth, your profits, and your customer base all at the same time? YES! Today Shel will teach you how:* Making your business Green can slash costs and provide a powerful “hot button” leverage point for your marketing * Faking a Green commitment (“greenwashing”) could destroy what you’ve worked so hard to build * You can create powerful partnerships that bring you directly in front of new and key audiences, at little or no cost — even competitors can be part of your success!* When you treat the prospect as intelligent, base your business on ethics, and actually anticipate those prospects’ needs, your growth can be exponential* If you use old-style interruption-oriented marketing that insults your prospects, you’re writing a recipe for failure * The conversations you create and the experiences people have with you are more important than any amount of traditional branding or advertising Shel Horowitz has been involved in environmental and social change movements his whole life. In 1972, at age 15, he was involved in a community group that opposed a nuclear power plant proposed for two miles north of New York City. A veteran of the 1977 Seabrook occupation, his first book, written when he was only 22, was about why nuclear power makes no sense.

This is the latest episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Jon Judah for the week of December 22, 2009 with some new and classic Hip-Hop & Soul Music, news and commentary. Our commentary this week focused on the upcoming Holiday Season and some other things here and there. We had another great interview this week with media expert and author David Mathison (http://www.BeTheMedia.com) on his latest book,"Be The Media". We talked about a lot of important Independent Media topics that are covered in "Be The Media", ranging from: * the importance of now that almost anyone is able to create & distribute all sorts of media content cheaper and easier than ever (books, websites, radio shows, video, etc.) * Copyright vs. Creative Commons * various U.S. laws that have restricted the creative offerings of mainstream media (TV, Radio, etc.) through controls in how things are distributed and what the average person can do about it can be done about it * how those entering into the Music Industry overall needs to hop onto using all forms of Independent Media to form a solid & dedicated fanbase while still earning money & keeping creative freedom * and LOTS of other things! There aren't new episodes of Black Agenda Report or Direct EFX segments due to the length of this week's interview.
