The former Tulsa Oklahoma police Officer who shot and killed Terence Crutcher and current Rogers County Reserve Deputy Sheriff Betty Shelby was invited to speak to a national conference, at the Southeastern Homicide Investigators Association. This is not the first time Shelby has led a training session for law enforcement officers. In August 2018 Shelby taught a group of Oklahoma state law enforcement officers the same course. Are we going to allow Betty Shelby to instruct the estimated 18,000 police departments around the nation this foolishness? Minneapolis police chief and politicians seemingly unwilling to charge police officers in deadly shootings of black men; unless the involved officer is also a person of color. Today’s episode is sponsored by Care Card, benefiting Family and Children’s Services.City Councilor Vanessa Hall-Harper gives us a debrief of why civilian oversight might be the next step to mend relations between community and police.Later on, Ian Swart from the Historical Society shares a spooky true crime story about a serial killer, a correspondence club, and a string of ex-husbands.So let’s talk, Tulsa.“I’m married to a cop for 25 years, so I have a unique perspective.”That’s District 1 City Councilor Vanessa Hall-Harper. In recent interviews with the Tulsa World, representatives from TPD has emphasized how much the department has changed its academy curriculum in recent years. Capt. Matt McCord, assistant director of training, says that these days, they look for recruits who are as interested in connecting with the community as they are in catching bad guys. McCord explained the department’s revamped training during a meeting of the Mayor’s Police and Community Coalition earlier this month. McCord acknowledges that the military-style “warrior” mentality just isn’t what’s best for Tulsa.Maj. Ryan Perkins, training director, took over the academy in June 2015 along with McCord. McCord and Perkins say empathy and cultural competency are paramount skills for recruits, and recent changes put a greater emphasis on de-escalation rather than knee-jerk self-defense. Implicit bias training, rolled out in a process through 2019, will be mandatory for every officer. But all of that’s to say, there’s still a long way to go, especially when the stakes are so high. And Vanessa Hall-Harper believes that the implementation of civilian oversight would help local law enforcement get even further in improving the relationship with the community. In the past few years, as police violence against unarmed black men has become a central topic in our national discussion on race and justice, Tulsa has tragically been in the national spotlight. The April 2015 shooting of Eric Harris by TCSO reserve deputy Robert Bates. The September 2016 shooting of Terence Crutcher by TPD officer Betty Shelby. Of course, the history of violence against black Tulsans goes back much further. Nearly 100 years after the Tulsa Race Massacre, Mayor GT Bynum announced earlier in October that the City would reopen an investigation into possible mass grave sites from the event. The announcement put Tulsa in the national spotlight once more, and Hall-Harper found herself fielding calls from international news outlets. All this, happening during her trip to Florida for the NACOLE conference.Another way to honor those who lost their lives in 1921 might also be to continue fighting for a more equitable city for all Tulsans. And reform of our local systems of justice is surely part of that equation. Vanessa Hall-Harper knows full well that this fight she’s picked is going to be a long and difficult one, but remains optimistic that positive change will be made — and must be made, for the well-being of the community. She remembers one poignant moment from the conference.https://www.tulsaei.org/https://www.tulsaei.org/themes/justice/https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2018/national/police-shootings-2018/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.9cf931a59583https://www.vox.com/cards/police-brutality-shootings-us/us-police-racism

The nation is upset that an unarned white Australian woman, Justine Damond, was shot to death after calling 911 for help. The officer who shot her is a Black man named Mohamed Noor. Contrast and compare how the media, the public, social forums, and the courts treat a Black officer whose victim is white, versus a white officer whose victim is Black. Will Noor be able to claim that he "feared for his life"? Betty Shelby, the officer who gunned down Terrance Crutcher, will resign the police force on August 3, 2017. Terence Crutcher is dead. He was unarmed and Betty Shelby killed him. But because America doesn't believe that Black lives matter and Betty Shelby "feared for her life," she doesn't have to face any consequences for her misjudgment of the situation the cost Terence Crutcher his life. She has the White privilege to be wrong about killing someone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObwGP9YvXms It's so frustrating...right? The reality that in 2017 we still are trying to prove to America that Black lives matter is maddening. I think it's time to stop waiting for majority Society to decide that Black lives matter. I think it's time for us to make them matter. But like Beyoncé said, we must "get in formation." Terence Crutcher, Philando Castile, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Walter Scott, Sandra Bland, et al...these instances will continue to occur until we get more Black lawyers in America. We are fighting these battles shorthanded...relying on others to fight for us. With Black lawyers making up only 4% of the nations lawyers, how can we truly fight? This was the basis of my conversation with Yusuf Abdul-Kareem, Diversity Initiatives Manager for the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC). In this episode, we talk about why it's so important to have more Black lawyers and he shares some extremely important information on what the LSAC is doing to empower more Black people to become legal professionals. There's some great content in this discussion...including a way you can get $1000 from LSAC to determine if law school is right for you! So Let Us Hear from You! In the studio this week is Cay (@cay.muao). One of the most fluid episodes we've had this year. The topics ranged from Real Sidechicks of Charlotte (yes, it's a real thing), Betty Shelby being acquitted, Cay receiving "meat mail" for her freaky tweets and more!
The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS Providing a historic illustration of White victimhood, President Donald J. Trump claimed to the be the target of a "witch hunt" after gorwing accusations of wrongdoing. Speaking of allegations, former entertainer Bill Cosby gave a rare public interview and asserted that Racism motivated charges of sexual harassment against him. This "OJ Simpson" moment calls to mind the numerous times Cosby admonished Black people for blaming their troubles on whitefolks. Texas A&M's Dr. Tommy Curry hasn't been persecuted like Cosby, but the author and professor has been subjected to racial terrorism and threatened with lynching as a result of his 2012 review of the film Django Unchained. Betty Shelby, the White Race Soldier who killed unarmed black male Terence Crutcher in the summer of 2016, was exonerated of any wrongdoing. As of Friday, May 19th, she's still employed with the police department. And Richard Spencer, media darling and vanguard of the so called "alt-right," lead torch-wielding Whites in protest of the removal of confederate monuments in Virginia. #AnswersForMiriamCarey INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943# The C.O.W.S. archives: http://tiny.cc/76f6p
The usual f***boy of the week. Toss up between Jeff Sessions and Betty Shelby and fatal shooting of Terrance Crutcher. The difference of rules of engagement between cops and civilians and civilians amongst each other. "Where's the gun?" Romper shit and de-masculinity in social media
In this monster episode, the Three Brothers open up with the story of Terence Crutcher, the unarmed black motorist shot and killed by Tulsa police officer Betty Shelby--who was recently acquitted. The Three Bros. turn to politics--of course--and discuss the week that was Donald Trump and the dumpster fire that the White House became. We later discuss the Netflix show "Dear White People," LaVar Ball, Sec. of Education Betsy DeVos delivering the commencement address at Bethune-Cookman University, Steve Harvey, the controversy with the Miss USA winner, To Wear or Not to Wear Rompers... ...and somehow Bill Cosby makes it into the podcast as well

It's been almost a month since Colin Kaepernick first sat down during the playing of the national anthem. Since then, fifteen black men have been killed by the police, according to the Huffington Post. The most recent one took America by storm yet again. On Friday, September 16, 2016, Terence Crutcher was shot and killed by Police Officer, Betty Shelby, after his vehicle stalled on a Tulsa highway. The cop told one story but the dashcam video released by the Tulsa Police Department a few days later, contradicted the officer's statement. Moreover, many Americans are saying this further supports their position to stand with Colin Kaepernick and his protest of the national anthem. America is facing tougher times than ever before. There are people on both sides and Butterfly Evolution wants to everyone's point of view. Where do you stand? Join us Monday, September 26th @ 8 PM CST to share your views.

We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS The summer of 2016 closed with terrorist attacks reported in New York City, New Jersey, and St. Cloud, Minnesota. Ahmad Khan Rahami engaged in a shootout with enforcement officials before being captured alive; he's a primary suspect in New York's Chelsea explosions over the weekend. Presidential hopeful Donald J. Trump blamed "political correctness" and reminded citizens that these attacks are possible because of weak immigration laws - which he will correct if elected. Ongoing terrorism against black people continued with the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 21st century Racist script dictates that whenever possible, showcase a prominent black enforcement official to deflect allegations of White tyranny. Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney (black male) has been front and center maintaining that Scott was armed and killed by a black officer. Both of these claims have been disputed by eye witness testimony - there's even a White witness reporting that a White officer executed Scott. Protests in Charlotte have raged throughout the week, and some black people are proposing a complete economic boycott in Charlotte. Down the road, Betty Shelby, a White Tulsa Police officer, was charged with first-degree manslaughter for killing Terence Crutcher in Tulsa, Oklahoma last Friday. Crutcher was black and unarmed. The video footage of his execution has entertained millions this week. President Barack Obama recommended hope, chided black people to put their faith in Hillary R. Clinton to continue progress, extend his legacy. #RacismIsNotAPrivilege INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/GusTRenegade CALL IN NUMBER: 641.715.3640 CODE 564943# The C.O.W.S. archives: http://tiny.cc/76f6p
