What does it look like to live with open hands and an open heart - especially during times of uncertainty? This month we are bringing you a special conversation about hope, uncertainty, and faith, from Dr. Chaley Knight. Chaley has been a longtime member of the Waynesburg University campus as both a student and a counselor, which is how I met her. For my husband and I's first three years of marriage, we lived in the little town just north of the PA/WV border called Waynesburg, and it brought so many great people into our circle. At the time, Juan was a youth pastor and we served the students of our church every Sunday at youth group. Chaley's three kiddos were regulars there and we came to know and love them - they are so grown up now, and since we've moved away, we kept in touch via Facebook - the upside of social media! Chaley completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology from WU in 2004, earned her Master's degree in counseling psychology in 2007. While a graduate student, she served as a resident director and resided in the residence hall with students. Before officially joining the Waynesburg University counseling staff, she worked within the community as a mental health therapist and addictions counselor. Chaley recently shared her testimony at Waynesburg University's chapel the other week and I came across it on my feed when she shared it to encourage others through the joy and the heartaches of her story. The way that she spoke triggered a realization inside of me - how often we hold back our stories because we are too afraid to speak with a trembling voice. Chaley shared her story with trembling, holding back tears, but did so while pointing to the God who wrote her story and writes all of ours. He is good. He is with us. In all of the uncertainty. It should be noted that Chaley's original presentation of this message was given at Waynesburg University's Chapel as part of their Testimony Tuesday series. Dr. Elizabeth Bothamley Rex is President of the Donum Vitae Institute, an educational outreach of The Children First Foundation dedicated to promoting adoption as a loving, life-affirming alternative for unborn children, newborns, and human embryos. A Catholic convert and scholar in bioethics, Dr. Rex has taught at Holy Apostles College & Seminary and held leadership roles at Columbia University and St. Joseph's Seminary. She holds advanced degrees in philosophy from the University of Navarra and an MBA from Baruch College, and lives in Yonkers, New York, with her husband, concert violinist Charles Rex, and their three children.

Today Mary brings her testimony to the table on our 2nd Testimony Tuesday. While every testimony is a series of divine appointments and God's revelation to the heart of someone, Mary has a historical context to widen the scope of God's providential ways. Tracing events from her great-grandmother to today, we see that God's ways are truly not ours. In the 2nd half of the podcast, we take a look at Malachi 3 and 4 and some of the most beautiful verses in the entire Bible. We talk about the books of God, and how our tears are recorded, showing us a God Who has great care and compassion for us. Once we get to the end of Malachi 4, prophetic utterances from God come to a halt, and we don't pick up the redemption story until Matthew 1, and a new epoch arrives with a song of "glory to God in the highest". With all that success, what drove him to his knees? How does a person reconcile or intersect the unique life of the spotlight, in the definitive 1960s no less, with the calling of a pastor and troubadour for Jesus? When he returned to Ohio for his Hall of Fame induction, he had a moment of clarity, that those two lives, and all the craziness, were both him, and God was in every moment. Sometimes we have a hard time reconciling our "two lives" as believers, we run from who we were in shame. But God. We talk to him about the early years, the fame years, and the ministry years. Richie and Nancy have been married since 1967, and as the family has grown up, their seasoning and maturity in Christ has had an impact for eternity.
