However, as economist Dr. EJ Antoni notes, a significant number of those new jobs were courtesy of government employment—with real hourly and weekly earnings still struggling due to inflation. According to a report from Patrick Thomas of The Wall Street Journal, beef prices in the U.S. are on the rise due to inflation which has “pushed up prices for fuel, feed and equipment”—complicated by “[s]evere drought in many key cattle-producing states, such as Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas, parched grazing pastures, requiring spending on supplemental feed such as alfalfa and hay—which are up more than 20% on average from the prior year.” You can read the full article here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/beef-prices-high-summer-barbecue-12a08905?mod=hp_lead_pos5 While appearing on MSNBC, White House Economic Advisor Bharat Ramamurti said he believes that middle class families are doing well and, consequently, the economy is doing well under President Joe Biden's leadership. However, as RNC research notes, the average American family has lost roughly $10,000 paying for increased costs from inflation since President Biden took office. According to Andrew C. McCarthy, “FBI director Chris Wray reached a compromise with committee chairman James Comer (R-KY)” regarding a House Oversight Committee subpoenaed document which is alleged to show members of the Biden family were receiving payments from foreign nationals for policy influence while Joe Biden was Vice President. McCarthy writes, that “[t]he FBI will bring the subpoenaed document at the center of the dispute to the House on Monday. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (06/02/2023): 3:05pm- Shortly after delivering the commencement address to the U.S. Air Force Academy on Thursday, President Joe Biden took a scary fall—thankfully, after being helped up by several secret service agents he appeared to be ok. While some questioned whether this was a symptom of his advanced age, members of the mainstream media were quick to jump in and dismiss those fears. 3:10pm- June 1st kicked off Pride Month. An NBC Nightly News report from Stephanie Gosk bemoaned the fact that several companies have begun to be less vociferous in their support/participation in Pride Month—specifically, elements of the LGBTQ+ community that have been outspoken in their support for “gender affirming” procedures on children. For example, following backlash from parents, the Target retail chain removed children's swimsuits that promised to “bind” and “tuck”—appealing to transgender-identifying kids. 3:15pm- JPMorgan has downgraded Target's stock after backlash stemming from their sale of trans-merchandise for children. Caroline Downey of National Review writes, “[t]he stock was demoted from overweight, which means the broker has a positive outlook on the company's prospects due to its current share price and that the stock is considered a strong buy, to neutral, which means the broker believes the investor should hold the stock as its price may not change.” You can read more here: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/jpmorgan-downgrades-target-stock-amid-backlash-over-lgbt-merchandise/#:~:text=Target%27s%20stock%20was%20downgraded%20on,the%20store%27s%20LGBT%20product%20campaign 3:35pm- During a town hall-style interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, former President Donald Trump mocked Chris Christie's presumed run for president in 2024—pointing out that the former New Jersey Governor is barely polling at 1%. 3:45pm- State Senator Ed Durr—representing New Jersey's 3rd Legislative District—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his reelection campaign. In 2022, Durr grabbed national headlines when he pulled a major election day upset win over former NJ Senate Majority Leader Stephen Sweeney. 4:05pm- On Friday, the Labor Department released its May jobs report indicating that the U.S. economy added 339,000 new jobs. 71 Republicans voted against the Biden/McCarthy debt ceiling deal. Congressman Matt Rosendale says they didn't put a dollar amount on it because people wouldn't support such a large amount. They did put a date on it of Jan. 2025 so neither party would have to discuss the budget in an election year. Rosendale says the package is a complete misrepresentation when they say there's nothing in it for Democrats. If so, why did so many Dems vote for it? He calls it the “Fiscal Irresponsibility Act.” An insult to Americans to say it's a good deal—it's disingenuous at best, dishonest at worst. This is the Swamp at its worst, the Swamp on full display. Leadership makes a big difference, so do rules. But when Leadership steps in and suspends the rules, the Speaker makes the final call. When you have enough people who are in fear of losing their position, their Chairmanship or the Committee they serve on, and they go along with suspending the rules, shame on them. GUEST: REP. On Wednesday night, the House of Representatives voted in favor of a Biden-McCarthy negotiated bill that would suspend the debt ceiling limit through January of 2025—after the presidential election cycle. The bill passed 314 to 117—and, as noted by Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC), it received more support from Democrat lawmakers than Republican lawmakers. The measure will now head to the Senate. Are there any benefits to this bill for conservatives? Has Hollywood turned on President Joe Biden? While speaking to a crowd on Thursday, Donald Trump reacted to President Joe Biden's Air Force Academy fall—saying he was glad Biden was ok and suggesting that sometimes you have to “tiptoe” to be extra safe. In a recent editorial in The New York Post, Miranda Devine writes about House Oversight Committee witness Gal Luft who fled the country after being accused of being an arms dealer. Luft claims he is innocent and was merely targeted by the federal government for providing House Republicans with information alleging the Biden family financially benefited from selling influence internationally. Devine states: “Luft told them about [Chinese state-controlled energy company] CEFC payments to Hunter and Jim Biden, and that Biden family associate Rob Walker was involved in distributing payments, a fact later corroborated by subpoenaed bank records released by the House Oversight Committee showing Walker funneling more than $1 million from China to at least three of President Biden's relatives.” You can read the full editorial here: https://nypost.com/2023/05/31/missing-biden-family-corruption-probe-witness-gal-luft-speaks-out-living-as-fugitive-in-undisclosed-location/

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: Appearing on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream, Speaker Kevin McCarthy defended his debt ceiling compromise with President Joe Biden—arguing “we let government grow, but at a slower rate.” Rich wonders, with Republicans in control of the House, shouldn't they fight to fundamentally reform federal government spending? While speaking with Benny Johnson, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) said of the debt ceiling agreement: "If you're a Republican member of the House or the Senate and you're thinking about voting for this, come talk to me...Read through it. You'll see this bill does not do what it claims it does.” While appearing on Fox News, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) said he was uncertain as to whether or not he will support the Biden-McCarthy debt ceiling agreement. Ari Blaff of National Review writes, “two female employees say they were fired from a Georgia store branch of the ‘athleisure' brand Lululemon for confronting store robbers and calling local law enforcement on them.” You can read the full article here: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/lululemon-fires-atlanta-employees-for-calling-police-during-robbery/

Historians will mark McCarthy's Memorial Weekend surrender not as an important, courageous, and prescient turning point but as just one more political misstep towards a prolonged war with  stagflation – simultaneous slow growth or recession plus inflation.  McCarthy had a golden historical opportunity to both turn the stagflation ship around and make all Americans better off under Republican leadership.  Footnotes are as footnotes do. Today's Post - https://bahnsen.co/3OnePfQ So markets rallied hard today as both sides in this Biden/McCarthy negotiation assured listeners that a default won't happen. Here's the lay of the land in the debt ceiling debate: It is fair to say “deadlines” thrown out for various actors in this are more bark than bite – negotiating tactics and all that stuff. No one can really say when they have to start prioritizing payments because they don't know what exactly June 15 tax receipts will look like. There will be lots of “rounds” in this negotiating process The White House largely believes it is more to their political benefit to be seen as getting a deal done than to be seen as fighting with the Republicans Noise is not material to a portfolio. One need not know what happens between now and whatever the X date is to know that on the other side of the X date, it will be like this noise never happened. For us contrarians, it is worth noting that cash levels are now the highest they have been all year and bond allocations are the highest they have been since 2009. And the recent Bank of America survey had money managers the most pessimistic as they have been all year. Keep this up, and we may end up seeing a full-blown boost of economic expansion … =) Links mentioned in this episode: TheDCToday.com DividendCafe.com TheBahnsenGroup.com
