U.S. Broadcasters are required to provide emergency alerts to their audiences, but many radio stations use IP-based signal distribution — something incompatible with old-style EAS boxes. What is needed is a simple way to interface the real-world over-the-air reception of EAS events, filter and process the messages, and — if necessary — incorporate the alerts into the modern audio-over-IP (AoIP) air chain. Doing this right involves some innovation, but once done well, there are several distinct benefits. Bill Robertson from Digital Alert Systems joins Kirk Harnack to explain how this award-winning implementation works, and why it makes EAS better and more effective. In Part 1 of a three part "Bladder Cancer Matters" podcast, join host Rick Bangs as he engages in an enlightening conversation with bladder cancer survivor, Bill Robertson, and Dr. Vikram Narayan of Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Narayan is Bill's urologist and helped him navigate the challenges of a bladder cancer diagnosis and resulting bladder removal. Dr. Narayan sheds light on the critical role of a comprehensive, multidisciplinary team in delivering exceptional care to bladder cancer patients. Bill Robertson shares his heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding support and expertise provided by the team at Emory. The discussion also explores the pivotal decision-making process behind opting for a radical cystectomy. The episode wraps up with an enticing preview of the upcoming parts two and three of this engaging conversation. Don't miss this compelling exploration of resilience, advanced care, and the innovative approaches to bladder cancer treatment.
In Part 2 of 3 in this Bladder Cancer Matters podcast, host Rick Bangs continues his conversation with Bill Robertson, a bladder cancer survivor, and Dr. Vikram Narayan, an assistant professor in the Department of Urology at Emory University School of Medicine. They discuss the difficult decision of undergoing a radical cystectomy, the potential benefits of bladder removal, and the importance of understanding a patient's values and preferences when discussing treatment options. They also touch on the different types of urinary diversions and the challenges that come with them, such as learning how to change the bag and adjusting to a new lifestyle. The episode concludes with a discussion on the time it takes to change a bag and the frequency of bag changes.
In Part 3 of this Bladder Cancer Matters podcast, host Rick Bangs continues his conversation with Bill Robertson, a bladder cancer survivor, and Dr. Vikram Narayan, an assistant professor in the Department of Urology at Emory University School of Medicine. They discuss the challenges and adjustments that come with having an ileal conduit, a common diversion procedure for bladder cancer patients. Dr. Narayan emphasizes the importance of understanding the recovery process and finding the right stoma appliance. Bill shares his personal experience with daily life after the surgery, including the need for physical activity and the support he received from his wife and others. Both Dr. Narayan and Bill stress the importance of seeking support from organizations like the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BCAN) and connecting with other patients who have gone through similar experiences. They also highlight the psychological impact of a bladder cancer diagnosis and the need for mental health support. The episode concludes with final thoughts from Bill and Dr. Narayan, who encourage patients to focus on their return to normalcy and to seek help and support throughout their journeys.
Cotton industry veteran Bill Robertson joins the podcast for a wide-ranging (and never boring) discussion on, among other things, the importance of good soil health, cotton production, life on his own farm, and how selling bulls and evaluating cotton varieties are more similar than you might think.
Have you ever wondered why your dog or cat seems to know when you're having a bad day? Why is it that my pup is so comforting when things are going sideways? Is it part of their DNA?Our guest today, Bill Robertson, is the author of a new book, "Uncle Bill's Animal Tales - Life Lessons for Adults". Bill's book is about his experiences with animals and how he feels they are our greatest teachers & healers. Bill heard from a psychic in Ghana, years back, who believed that the pecking order of consciousness on the planet is 1. Trees, 2. Animals, and 3. Human Beings. Why is Number 3 constantly trying to overtake 1 & 2? In 1997 Bill got clean & sober, and on the show, he tells about how his cat helped him to wake-up and put down the drugs & booze, and that his two dogs since then have helped keep him sober. Bill is from Boston originally where he worked in corporate America for many years, and ran a sketch comedy show out of Boston & NY called “Heavily Medicated Fairy Tales.” He has written for a kids' show on PBS, sold two scripts to Lifetime, and wrote and produced a feature film, “Paradise, a Town of Sinners & Saints” based on a musical comedy that he produced in LA and Austin, TX to rave reviews and sold-out houses. Also on the show, Bill reveals what it was like to come out as gay to his family, friends, and co-workers, and offers advice to those facing similar challenges. Here are some questions we discussed with Bill:Q. The subject of your book is fascinating. What was going on in your life before your cat and dogs intervened?Q. You write in the promo copy for your book on Amazon that animals can be our best healers and teachers. Exactly what did they do to help you get clean and sober?Q. How can our listeners recognize their connection with animals in the home, and in nature as well?Q. Do you have any advice for people who do not have pets in their home, but are dealing with stress and anxiety, or challenges to overcome, as you did with alcohol and drugs?Q. Where did the “Uncle Bill” come from in the book's title? Q. You had a career in corporate America before aging out when you turned 60. Exactly what did you do?Q. After you retired from your job, you quickly shifted to focusing on the arts – film, theatre, writing…how did you do that?Q. On your Facebook page, you posted this quote: “Living life to the fullest is taking chances, allowing yourself to be vulnerable, and knowing that it's all part of the journey for the greater good.” Please explain that.Q. There's also a great pic of you and Tucker. Who is Tucker? What's he mean to you?Q. Who was Sophie? On Facebook, you say she was one of the reasons you wrote your book.Q. You recently appeared on a podcast that was billed as “How to Never Stop Being Yourself, Unapologetic Coming Out Expert.” Can you talk about your “coming out” experience?Q. Advice for others facing the same situation?Q. Are the challenges facing the queer community worsening these days, and if so, why?Q. You have a new book in the works. Can you tell us about that?Q. Had one of my favorite people on the podcast today. Bill Robertson. I've known Bill for more than 30 years and he worked for me for at least 15.Bill's got an amazing story. He moved to Albuquerque in 1950, and he was an English teacher for 30 years He even taught a young Bob Gallegos, a native arts dealer who's also been on the podcast so that tells you how long Bill's been around. He started collecting pottery in the early sixties, and knew all these amazing people like Charles Loloma, Garnet Pavatea, Lucy Lewis, Maria Martinez, and even rented a house from Helen Naha, also known as "Feather Woman." In 1968 where he spent an entire summer in Hopi working on many different academic projects. So this was a very interesting conversation with a wonderful human being. Lisa is joined by "Uncle" Bill Robertson who talks with Lisa about his book, UNCLE BILL'S ANIMAL TALES: LIFE LESSONS FOR ADULTS. Bill is an author, screenwriter, playwright, producer and coach. Bill shares stories about his wonderful dogs and the lessons he learned as well as his experience working in dog shelters. This is a heart warming interview full of wonderful stories and moving lessons. BOOK DESCRIPTION:Do you need a good laugh or want to read something that will make you smile?Check out "Uncle Bill's Animal Tales" - Life Lessons for Adults. This is not a children's book, but a series of short stories and insights around my time with animals who have helped me to learn more about the world and myself.I believe animals can be our best healers and teachers if we're open and awake to receive the blessings. My dogs have been there for me during tough times, and I had a cat who helped me get clean and sober.Uncle Bill was my nickname growing up. I would always try and talk my neighborhood friends out of breaking into a house, or doing something unlawful, and I got a response one day, "Oh, shut up Uncle Bill. God, you're such an Uncle Bill." Then in college someone out of the blue called me Uncle Bill. It has happened several times in my life. So, I figured why not use it as the title of my first book? Plus, I have a niece and nephew so I am qualified for the title. It's simply a feel good, fun, and heartfelt book that I hope will entertain and educate at the same time. Thanks for checking it out! Enjoy the read, and go pat an animal today. I guarantee you'll feel better.
It's golf history week with our resident golf historian, plus hosts Alex Lauzon and Michael Russell look back on other goings on in the world of golf and more this past week. The Valspar Invitational proved to be a fun week indeed, with Jordan Speith doing Jordan Speith things before Taylor Moore took the W. Plus a new "bag cam" made an appearance, and all the JTs got into an argument about whose the real JT (1:44). LIV Golf played in Tuscon this week, and they finished off the week with a 4 man playoff that, in typical LIV fashion, nobody watched (8:02). The TOUR heads to Austin for what could be the final WGC Dell Match Play, and Alex shares his thoughts on 7 magical years in Austin. Plus a look at the stacked event field and who may emerge from their 4-man brackets (10:53). Opposite the Match Play will be the Corales Putacana Championship, where the grinders on TOUR play for a life-changing weekend (17:38). Throughout the course of my life, I have been fortunate enough to come across individuals that have allowed me to experience the incredible opportunities plant medicines allow for us, such as connection, love & gratitude, even without the addition of these medicines. What this is a constant reminder of for me in my life is that these medicines are just that, medicines, &, similar to other medicines, the “goal”, if you will, is to be able to integrate the lessons they gift us into our daily lives so that we may benefit from them long after the “peak” experience of actually sitting in ceremony with them. Todays guest on the show is a prime example of the above mentioned example & is someone who from the first moment I met, I bonded hard with over our mutual love for music, laughter & self development, to name but a few. He is an absolutely world class, one of a kind jewelry magician, creating some of the finest examples of divine art in the form of jewelry that I have ever witnessed & has created a business around this art, named William Arthur Jewelry, that is capturing people's love for one another, his love for the art form of jewelry making & all around helping peoples emotions become reality in the masterpieces he creates. If all of this wasn't enough & because I am sure you are all curious, he is also an individual who has benefitted deeply from the experiences he has been a part of surrounding the subject of conscious, intentional plant medicine ceremony. This episode is sure to invoke the muse out to play for each person listening & allow you all to tap into the innate creative potential we all have access to within our lives.
