After an year-long hybernation period, I have returned from the darkness bringing you Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, a film that flatens many existences and realms once separated by the restrictions of time, space, and societal norms. A beautiful visual rendering of a book from 1983 called A Man Who Can Recall His Past Lives by Buddhist abbot Phra Sripariyattiwet. A terminal illness thins out otherwise physical barriers of existence as Boonmee navigates through past lives to find reason and understanding.

He's Back! Robert is Back! It's the moment you've all (and mostly Lukas) has been waiting for. If you thought the last time Robert was on, he had a tricky movie with "Even Dwarfs Started Small", well get ready for the Thai avant garde Palme d'Or winner about Buddhism, reincarnation, and spirituality. Originally slated to get Devon open to more films, we finally decide to open the box of Uncle Boonmee, and unleash it on one of our most excited, entertaining, and drunkest guests, Robert White. How long ago did Brandon write this script? How quickly does Robert grasp the themes and metaphors of this incredibly challenging film? And what would it look like if a ghost monkey were posing with its' war boys? Tune in this week to find out all this and more, but only on "The Good, The Bad, & The Movies"! P.S.

We take a gentle, nostalgic, and surreal turn with this episode via Apichatpong Weerasethakul's 2010 palm d'or winning fantasy film, Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. We meditate on what so-called 'Slow Cinema' can offer the autistic viewer, and how this form of filmmaking cuts against the mainstream fast-paced approach. We also enjoy Weerasethakul's fantastical leanings and the methods he uses to normalise and naturalise the supernatural, while we also consider how the natural landscape of the Thai jungles evoke the connections often made between autism and the environment. Georgia manages to make an intriguing comparison to the work of David Lynch, while Lillian laments alternative methods of filming nature that Uncle Boonmee seems to want to resist. To read about the autistic 'ecological sainthoods', as explored by Dr Anna Stenning, find her article here: https://dsq-sds.org/article/view/7715/7606  What do you make of the work of Weerasethakul and other proponents of 'slow cinema'? She's gotta have it” (1986).

A Boonmee bácsi, aki képes visszaemlékezni korábbi életeire (angolul ismert címén Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives) a témánk. New series of mixtapes specially created for CLOT Magazine. The first instalment comes from Phantom Limb and Dylan Henner: Alternating Microsound with Film Score a mixtape. Both of these categories of music acknowledge environment. In film score, a soundtrack is part of worldbuilding; it is a key part of the film universe, part of its reality. Microsound music does something similar. It follows different rules to pop music, operating only within its own tiny world. Like film score, it is not made to be a filler of empty space, but to be details within it, like the literal case of NASA's audio recording of the sounds made by Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko as it flies through the outer universe. A Secretive newcomer, Dylan Henner describes his work as “bliss-out ambient” and released his debut EP A Reason for Living through Phantom Limb in February 2019. Tracklist: 1. Akira Rabelais - 1440 Promp. Parv. 518_2 Wawyn, Or Waueryn, Yn A Myry Totyr, Oscillo. 2. Nick Zammuto - Stealing [from We The Animals] 3. Jim Wilson - God's Chorus [edit] 4. Anugama & Sebastiano - African Journey [from Baraka] 5. Mike Shiflett - Sufferers 6. Benedetto Ghiglia - El Suplicio [from El Suplico] 7. 2015 NASA recording of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko 8.
