The final storyboards were completed just a few months before the release of the film. The film draws a comparison to the destructive nature of humans toward natural resources and the environment. Miyazaki met with Harvey Weinstein, Miramax's chairman; Weinstein demanded that edits should be made to Princess Mononoke.In response, Toshio Suzuki sent Weinstein a katana with a message stating "No cuts."
