Show Notes 0:00: Justin and Helen once again find some time to share what they’ve been up to…ok, only Justin has a title he liked a lot, and it’s published by TOKYOPOP! News 5:53: The hosts then get into discuss Crunchyroll’s latest troubles, ranging from layoffs to a possible security breach that also gets Justin to discuss reporting in the big 2026. 21:02: A couple episodes ago the hosts discussed one live event being cancelled in Japan due to threats — now we’ve gotten another one, this time involving Love Live! and Japan Airlines. 23:02: The Culprit Hanzawa manga is going on hiatus for an unspecified time; meanwhile Kōji Kumeta suffered a finger injury, so he’ll be on hiatus until that heals up. Streaming News 42:23: During the Akane-banashi YouTube live stream, global streaming platforms and details were revealed for the anime, which premieres later this week. This got Justin to go down an unlikely rabbit hole as another Weekly Shonen Jump title does not go to Crunchyroll for some reason (and instead, it’ll stream for North American users on YouTube, with Netflix streaming the anime beginning in May). 49:36: Helen gets to talk about the other bizarre streaming situation this Spring in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run, which had its first episode (1st STAGE) go up on Netflix, and nothing else. The 2nd STAGE has been announced to air in 2026. When in 2026? Only the execs at Netflix know apparently! And this sure has led to a LOT of discussion regarding how this series has been handled since Netflix made the deal with david production years ago. 1:00:15: The newest anime streaming service in North America, Amasian TV, just added Mugen Train and that can be watched for free; The Crave streaming platform in Canada added 14 anime films, from Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero to In This Corner of the World; Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: The Immortal Bloodline has been released digitally for rental or purchase by GKIDS, with a BD release (collaboration with Shout! Studios) coming in July; and thanks to GKIDS, Gundam fans will get to see the second film of the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway anime project in US theaters May 15. Weird News 1:02:29: You say it’s over…it’s never over apparently! For Shadow Skill, which ended 12 years ago, clearly it getting a sequel shows you can return no matter what; and as rumored, From Far Away is getting an anime adaptation — the shoujo manga started in 1991! 1:08:04: You know, there’s not too many cases where an anime character is added to a video game, and certainly not a fighting game, so we had to note Kenshiro getting added to the latest Fatal Fury game; and sure, bringing back a 4KIDS voice actor can be kind of interesting but generally not terribly weird, but for this particular run of One Piece, there’s levels to having Erica Schroeder return to the One Piece franchise as Joyboy. Right back at it again with another convention roundup show, the happenings and goings-on at Anime NYC brought about some pleasant treats, some fun in-person experiences, and even some good surprises - as per usual, of course. Convention season is starting to wind down for us, too, so after this and New York Comic-Con we'll be focused on our usual bits of shenaniganry to come - mainly on the movie front with Demon Slayer, Chainsaw Man, Angel's Egg, and Scarlet... you know, eventually. Movie Night comeback? Maybe. And to go along with all of that, we also take a gander at SANDA coming to Prime Video, we lay out the deal with SEKIRO, we wonder at the Naoki Urasawa manga BILLY BAT coming stateside and preparing ourselves for that wonderful world of madness, and we also ask ourselves one important question: what would a 1970s National Geographic special be like if it were an omegaverse manga? The answer will... probably not shock you. intro - the dichotomy of animation on Amazon 6:32 - Anime NYC: Jet's in-person experience 15:34 - Anime NYC: the panels (Liar Game, Bryce Papenbrook joins DAN DA DAN) 1:18:14 - other news (SANDA to Amazon, Sekiro anime re-clarifications, Scarlet update, Billy Bat manga) 1:35:07 - home video releases (Sentai, Crunchyroll, Devilman Crybaby) Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

Welcome to Mona Lisa Overpod, the show that asks the question "What is cyberpunk?" On each episode, hosts Ka1iban and author Lyda Morehouse dive into the genre that helped define sci-fi fiction in '80s and they break down its themes which remain relevant to our lives in the 21st century. Pull on your mirrorshades, jack into the matrix, and start your run with us today!Japanese manga, American comics, anime and western cartoons all owe an unpayable debt to Osamu Tezuka and his greatest creation Astro Boy. Astro (or Atom's) adventures were brisk and often silly, but they would subtly comment on more adult topics like discrimination, war, and moral ambiguity. Naoki Urasawa is mangaka who was heavily inspired by Tezuka's work, and in 2003 he released Pluto, an eight-volume mini-series that that took a deeper, darker look at the world of Astro Boy. When both humans and robots are being murdered by a shadowy killer, robot cop Gesicht will need to assemble the pieces of the mystery, as the potential victims try to reassemble their war-torn and shattered lives. In this episode, we discuss how both Tezuka's and Urasawa's styles reflect their respective eras, compare modern western comics and gekiga, lying as a signifier of sentience, the manga's restaging of the 2003 Iraq war and its depiction of PTSD and survivor's guilt. the families built by both humans and robots in the story, the subtle apartheid present in Astro's world, robots as people as commodities, Asimov's laws as guidleines and not rules, and becoming just "human" enough to kill. We also talk about fresh Shrimp Jesus, larcenous typography, Will Prompt Engineer For Food, being lodged in the canon, hitting on the robot nose, no Aibo left behind, The Killing of a Rest Stop Robot, dating your Roomba, machine gun butts, and the REAL reason Pluto has horns!Hurt robots hurt robots. The new edition of Lyda's book, Ressurection Code, is out now!https://wizardstowerpress.com/books-2/books-by-lyda-morehouse/resurrection-code/Read the saga of the "Download a Car" font!https://www.404media.co/tag/xband/Join Kaliban on Twitch weekdays at 12pm for the Cyber Lunch Hour!http://twitch.tv/justenoughtropePut Just Enough Trope merch on your body!http://justenoughtrope.threadless.comMLOP is a part of the Just Enough Trope podcast network.
Naoki Urasawa + entrevista a José Villarrubia.
Monster isn't at the top of any anime lists. Whether this is due to its unconventional storytelling or darker cerebral tone , it's these very same elements that set Monster apart from more popular anime as a rare masterpiece that doesn't get enough attention. A mature crime thriller from one of the best mangaka's of all time (Naoki Urasawa), Monster offers great storytelling in a grounded setting. This makes it a different kind of gateway anime, appealing to fans of true crime and thriller stories who may otherwise never give anime a shot. Despite being renowned as a masterpiece, Monster is often overlooked by anime fans. Returning guest Gerald Lillywhite is one of them, who joins the discussion fresh after finishing the series to offer his perspective as a writer.

Happy Halloween, where we crown our Pumpkin King of Horror Manga, delving deep into the horrors of a child that was just born wrong, and the doctor who is being punished for doing the right thing? This week, Matt, Sam, Jae, and Jacob read and discuss Monster by Naoki Urasawa.Read along, meme along, or just yell at our bad opinions by following @OverMangaCast on Twitter.YouTube / Instagram / FacebookLeave a review: Podchaser
-- SPOILERS BEGIN AT 1HR, 5MIN MARK (1:05) -- Our review is Spoiler Free up until that point, so enjoy, watch the show and come back for the rest! Steve is recovering from a long weekend out of town, so Ryan and I decided to cover another massively critically acclaimed manga/anime by Naoki Urasawa that really made an impact on us: Monster. We cover Dr. Kenzo Tenma's journey to "right" the "wrong" that he feels he committed with a young-boy-turned-serial-killer: Johan Liebert. Monster is overflowing with rich themes, motifs, and challenging moments of characterization, all while turning, what is essentially, the classic tale of a wandering, vengeful samurai, on it's head, while exploring themes of generational truama, fascism vs. freedom, East vs. West, Healing vs. Killing, and what is the true nature of evil...ust to name a few. This bad boy comes in at a whopping 3 hours and 18 minutes, so we hope you enjoy this alternative to No Guts, No Glory: the Berserk Podcast! We'll be back with a new episode asap, but in the meantime, let us know what you thought of this episode, since we all consume a decent amount of content - anime or otherwise - and we're happy to do more of this if you all enjoy it.

WELCOME BACK TO IDEAS DON'T BLEED!This week, we're joined by Deniz Camp (20th Century Men / Maxwell's Demons) as we discuss his comics origins, taking big swings, his new Marvel Comics series The Ultimates, and more!IDB is an all-new weekly podcast presented by Ashcan Press and featuring Matthew Rosenberg, the Supple Boiz, and wonderful guests from the world of comic books! Our theme song is “Where's the Poison” by Summer People.Enjoy!Hello and welcome to Second Monday! We got some good news and we got some bad news. The bad news is that a whole lotta life stuff got in the way of getting this episode out on time. What kind of life stuff? I'm not really sure because I was just sitting in my apartment watching THE ENGLISH. But I also don't know how to actually get the words into the podcast or get the podcast into the email, so I am 100% dependent on my right and left hands- Ethan and Griffin. And they are both having a real shitty week. All I know is that Ethan is a trooper and Griffin is doing something he calls “full caveman” so he can't even get us the proper title card for the show. The good news is that, despite having a bad time, they are consummate professionals and we did actually manage to get the words into the podcast and the podcast into the email. So here you go. Title card be damned. And it's extra good news because this is a fun one. We got to chat with my pal Deniz Camp about his new ULTIMATES comic for Marvel Comics and a bunch of other stuff. If you've never read any of Deniz's work I'd urge you to go grab 20th CENTURY MEN with Stipan Morian and Aditya Bidikar. It truly is a fascinating, powerful, and dense book that doesn't quite read like anything else out there. A story about wars- cold, hot, and super-powered. But it is also a story about giving yourself over to something bigger than yourself, about questioning the world and your place in it, about faith, about loyalty, and about man's inhumanity to man and our complicity in all of it. It's not one you just read lightly. And Stipan's art is one of the great joys in comics these last few years. So go to your local comic shop and grab a copy. Also grab all of 20th CENTURY BOYS by Naoki Urasawa. It's unrelated but it's so damn good.Anyway, enjoy the podcast and send some love to Ethan and Griffin today. They could use it.That's it for me. Stay safe. Take care of each other. I bet you didn't think we were going to have two Mondays this week, did you?-Matthew RosenbergNYC 6/25/24 This is a public episode.
