Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku on Fujitan netissä alkanut romanssiteemainen huumorisarja, jossa kolme pariskuntaa tasapainottelee yhtäältä parisuhteen, toisaalta nörttiharrastusten ja työssäkäyvän aikuisen arjen yhdistämisen kanssa. Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! - The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All (11:24) – WOTAKOI: RAKENNE JA HUUMORI - Sarjassa on paljon väli-infosivuja (kuva) ja varsinaisten lukujen välisiä bonusstrippejä (kuva) - Sivun pituisten strippien “nimet” sivun alalaidassa usein jatkavat ajatusta: - Hän on kiva kaikille, eikä vain minulle (kuva) - Minkä väriset alushousut (kuva) - Suuri osa sarjasta koostuu pienistä skenaarioista, jotka eivät varsinaisesti kuitenkaan ole strippejä (kuva) - (Petteri muistelee tässä että viimeisen pokkarin suudelma olisi ollut ensisuudelma, mutta oikeastihan sellainen oli jo ensimmäisessä pokkarissa) - Pokkarijulkaisuun lisätyt pitemmät jatkotarinat luovat myös isompaa dramatiikkaa (kuva) - Vakavuuden ja humoristisuuden yhdistelyä (kuva) (29:21) – WOTAKOI: NÖRTTI- JA TYÖELÄMÄN KUVAUS - Jakso 67, jossa puhuimme Genshikenistä, joka kertoo nolkytluvun nörttikuvasta - Narumin mielestä nörtit ovat ällöjä, mutta kyse on ehkä enemmän hänen omasta päähänpinttymästään ja ikävistä kokemuksistaan (kuva) - Kabakura kokeilee lukea poikarakkausmangaa (kuva) - Kaiji-naama ja JoJo-naama (kuva) - Shoko Nagakawa (41:52) – WOTAKOI: HAHMOKERRONTA (45:00) – WOTAKOI: NARUMI MOMOSE JA HIROTAKA NIFUJI - Ranka Lee Macross Frontierista - Hirotakalle Narumi oli ensimmäinen ja tärkeä ystävä, eikä Narumi ole tätä ennen ihan tajunnut sen merkitystä (kuva) - Hirotakan korvalävistys (kuva) - Hirotaka kokee epävarmuutta siitä, että hänen ja Narumin suhteessa ei ole samaa kipinää kuin Koyanagin ja Kabakuran (kuva) - Hirotaka kokee ystävyyden taian (kuva) - Narumi hakee huomiota (kuva) - Tarinan alun perin aloittaneessa one-shotissa seurustelu aloitetaan aika hassusti… (kuva) - …mutta viimeisessä pokkarissa nähtävä Hirotakan näkökulma maalaa kohtauksen eri sävyiseksi (kuva) (01:00:33) – WOTAKOI: HANAKO KOYANAGI JA TARO KABAKURA - Koyanagi ja Kabakura riitelevät koko ajan, mutta onneksi myös pyytävät anteeksi ja tulevat vastaan (kuva) - Kabakura suojelee Narumia (kuva) - Bonuskuvassa Kabakura tekee TV-animen OP-tanssia - Mätsäävät riipukset! Suomijulkaisu toisin sanoen näyttänee ykköspokkarista eteenpäin varsin erilaiselta. - Sarjalle on saatu valmiiksi putsatut sivupohjat, joten ääniefektit on korvattu kokonaan (kuva) - Vaakasuuntaan ladotut puhekuplan ulkopuoliset repliikit kuitenkin vähän häiritsevät (kuva) - Alkuperäisessä ladonnassa parasiittien puhefontti on itse asiassa käsinkirjoitetumpi ja orgaanisempi kuin ihmisten (kuva) - Parasyte Reversi, Moare Ootan piirtämä spinoff-manga - Netflixin Parasyte-sarja - Äänijälki-podcastin jakso 39, jonka aiheena oli Parasyten animesovitus (02:56:47) – LUKUJONOSSA: VIRGIN LOVE 3-4 - Virgin Love - Jakso 108, jossa puhuimme sarjan alkupuoliskosta - Jakso 38, jossa puhuimme sarjasta Tokyo Tarareba Girls - Nounai Poison Berry - Petteri sanoo tässä että Virgin Love on tekijänsä ensimmäinen manga, mutta oikeastaan kyseessä on hänen ensimmäinen yhtä pokkaria pidempi sarjansa (03:12:25) – LOPETUS

Hello and welcome back! News, brief discussions of Hellraiser 2022, Werewolf by Night, and the latest episode of House of the Dragon. My first Manga Spotlight segment, covering volume 1 of Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (12:15). Coverage for NYCC 2022 includes (16:53) Show and Movie Updates, Trailers, and clips (18:13), DC Comics announcements (28:02), and then Marvel Comics (32:39) news. While I'm skipping picks for the week, this week's Pulls (40:29) of comics out this week of the 12th include a great deal of fun issues across many different publishers. The penultimate She-Hulk episode, 50:59 episode 8, was titled Ribbit and Rip It, an featured none other than Matt Murdock, Daredevil! A un episode, but there are still questions. Here's the referenced Collider article: https://collider.com/she-hulk-intelligencia-scariest-mcu-villain/ Finally, Rings of Power episode 7 (1:06:13) was the penultimate for that series, as well, and most of what we have now is questions. Who is anyone?!? I'll be back with more comics and culture next week, covering the finales of She-Hulk and Rings of Power, and more sweaty comic content! What's better than a love story? A dorky love story about nerds who love each other despite their differing dorky interests. We love Wotakoi over here at the BIIAST Pod and we were super excited to get into all the things that make this story so good. What does it mean to be compatible with a partner? Do we ever really grow up? Should you secretly ship your partner with his work bestie? Wotakoi has it all. But is it an S-Tier?
This week we are joined by our ex-club President CHIBI!!! After a long vacation and transfer of schools, she was finally able to stop by and provide her thoughts on this week's episode, "Wotakoi-Love is Hard for an Otaku." Tune in as the original dynamic trio discuss what it's like to be a "weeb" and some of our own personal dating experiences being such an "Otaku." Find out which character we connected with the most, and sit back and relax while we discuss one of the most relatable and "feel-good" animes that we've seen in a while. We hope that you'll relate to this show as much as we have!

Josei is a genre written with the target audience of roughly 18+ women. It's similar to Seinen manga, which is targeted at men 18+. Like Seinen, Josei can focus on anything from a wider genre list but does tend to more realistic and romantic stories. For this podcast we will focus on Princess Jellyfish, Descending Stories, and Wotakoi: Love is Hard for An Otaku.

13 – a Prime number and the current episode’s reference number. You think this is nerdy? Well, this episode dives head first into nerdyness, so it is only fitting. In February our bookdragon SandyJ enjoyed two Manga Weekends and read 31 books, most of them by Japanese authors.
If you've listened to this podcast then you know that our hosts LaNeysha and Kate are in love with mangaka FUJITA's Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, a manga published in English by Kodansha Comics USA and an anime currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Now, the wholesome geeky romance is a live-action film. While the film released in Japan earlier this year, it hadn't made it stateside yet which made the Fantasia Fest 2020 International Premiere even more special!

The second season of The Punisher has finally landed on Netflix, and to celebrate our half-boiled comics and manga detectives from the 4-Panel agency decided to investigate some of the weirder things that have happened to Frank Castle over the decades. From his brief stint as an African-American in the early ‘90s and his resurrection as an “angel”, to his other “resurrection” as a monster and the bizarre manga replacement, it’s been a very odd ride for old Frank thus far … After that it’s time for something a bit more normal as Andrew, Mick and Rob discuss what they’ve been reading, which this week includes the second volume of The Seven Deadly Sins: Seven Days, I Am Young by M. Dean, Domino: Killer Instinct, the third volume of Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku by Fujita, and Runaways: Best Friends Forever. The hot stove, just before the winter meetings, is not something that should be touched. Paul Goldschmidt to the Cardinals? Nathan Eovaldi back with the Red Sox? Manny Machado and Bryce Harper to the White Sox??? I can only dream… But the first two definitely happened. I live off these rumors. On this episode our hosts stand their ground on three different planes of conflict. First CC travels to the stars, to cover the epic space war story of Legend of the Galactic Heroes - Die neue These. Then John descends on Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku and discusses the trappings of a completely different battlefield: romantic relationships between full-blown nerds. Last but not least, CC celeberates the flawed but definitely welcome return of an old favorite of his: Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory. Bcom, Leo, and Kat are back to wrap-up the end of the Spring 2018 anime season. We start off by covering the final episode of Megalo Box, which didn’t fully land its punches. Then, we transition into a marathon segment where we absolutely lose our minds describing the final two episodes of Gurren Laga…I mean, Darling in The FranXX. It was worth covering all 24 episodes just for this final segment! Afterwards, we detail a few notable anime we watched on the side, and then plunge into our final scores and remarks on each of the 10 shows we followed this season. Bcom, Leo, and Kat return to discuss weeks 11 and 12 of the Spring 2018 anime season. Almost all of the shows we were watching wrapped up this week, besides Megalo Box and Darling in the FranXX, so we’re here to give our initial thoughts on all of the finales. Golden Kamuy decided to finish off its season by giving Asirpa a lecture about gentlemanly dicks and announcing a season 2 slated for October. Galactic Heroes finished in the middle of one of its greatest battles, which left us craving the upcoming three movies. Yotsuiro Biyori came to a tasteful, and tasty end, which left us theorizing a bit about the nature of the two brothers’ relationship. Steins;Gate 0 continued its slow burn of soap opera level mystery, and Doreiku, mercifully wrapped up in a “happy” ending for all of its slaves. Girls and dragons live happily ever after in Hisone to Masotan and Gearless Joe gears up again for his second-to-last fight. Wotakoi is another in a long string of romcoms that goes nowhere and says nothing about its main couples, which left us predictably disappointed. Hinamatsuri was one of the best shows of the season, and stayed consistently hilarious right to the kick-ass kung-fu street fighting ending. And finally, can Darling in the FranXX do the impossible, see the invisible, touch the untouchable, and break the unbreakable in ripping off every single Gainax show before its conclusion? They seem to be on track. ROW! ROW! Bcom, Leo, and Kat are back to discuss weeks 9 and 10 of the Spring 2018 anime season. This week is pretty laid back. It’s all about giving people massages, finding true love, and letting bayonets come inside your perverted little hearts. A highlight of this week’s podcast were two Special Episodes we covered, for Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Darling in the FranXX, which were both very much worth watching, but for entirely different reasons. Golden Kamuy continues to be obsessed with Gleaming Boners, but only slightly more than Steins;Gate 0 was obsessed with fondling Moeka’s breasts, to distract from how sad Rintarou is. Bcom made quite a discovery about the staff behind Yotsuiro Biyori (which he probably should’ve figured out long ago). Kat and Leo voiced some small concerns about Doreiku’s direction, but are still happy to see Hisone licking her way to love in all the right places. Wotakoi could probably borrow some of that licking action from Masotan and improve their show drastically, but one thing’s for sure, no one licks like your friendly neighborhood Klaxo Sapiens. Loli dinosaurs age like a fine wine it turns out. “She’s actually 2 billion years old!” sayeth the otaku lolicon. Speaking of lolis, Hinamatsuri has a mom you should meet, but don’t fret, because she’s hilarious. If you’re frustrated with the terrible jokes in this description, you can take out your frustration by just punching Joe about 1,000 times in the face because he’ll just keep getting back up anyway.Recorded June 25, 2018.Timestamps:2:13 - Golden Kamuy (Eps. 9-10)21:58 - Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Eps. Kat, Leo, and Bcom return to discuss weeks 7 and 8 of the Spring 2018 anime season. This week is all about boners of all kinds. Whether it be the various murder boners that Golden Kamuy seems to love, or Reinhard's boner for Kircheis in Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Or maybe it's Bcom's boner for young Gure in Yotsuiro Biyori or Dr. Frank's boner for the Klaxosaur Princess. Or perhaps its Julia’s boner for a 12-year-old boy in Doreiku or Hanako’s boner for shipping her boyfriend in her yaoi Wotakoi fantasies. One thing's for sure, nothing tops our collective boner for Megalo Box's continued dominance of the season, and there's just really no need for enhancement pills when you have anime to...ahem, inspire you! It's time to jump in because this episode of our podcast is fully erect.Recorded June 9, 2018.Timestamps:5:14 - Golden Kamuy (Eps. 7-8)18:12 - Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Eps. 7-8)46:45 - Yotsuiro Biyori (Eps. 7-8)1:05:02 - Steins;Gate 0 (Eps. 7-8)1:23:47 - Doreiku (a.k.a. “Slave District”) (Eps. 7-8)1:34:10 - Commercial Break!1:38:15 - Hisone to Masotan (Eps. 7-8)1:59:54 - Megalo Box (Eps. 7-8)2:13:16 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Eps. 7-8)2:30:00 - Hinamatsuri (Eps. 7-8)2:48:19 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 18-19)Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtheriTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense

As reality unfolded, the two guys had problems in coordinating their schedules and being available at the same time. And as a result, you get this episode. But it's an extra-long episode, one that includes discussions of not two but three recent manga releases. They begin with the first volume in a the latest series from one of their favorites, Inio Asano. Dead Dead Demon's De De De De Destruction (VIZ Media) is an unusual work that, in many ways, reminds the guys of Goodnight Punpun they reviewed in March 2016, a title that they especially loved. And they appreciate this new work at least as much. This new book begins as a realistic narrative of Tokyo schoolgirls and their everyday interactions at school. Soon, though, the reader discover that this is not a normal environment, but one where the city is, literally, living under the shadow of a giant mysterious spaceship that visited them three years previously. Next they turn to a notable new release from Retrofit/Big Planet Comics, Baron Yoshimoto's The Troublemakers. Translated and edited by Ryan Holmberg, this is a collection of six short works of gekiga that vary in narrative approach, theme, and (to a lesser degree) style. All of these pieces were originally released between 1966 and 1974, and in a variety of publications. The volume ends with a magnificent essay, providing history and context, by the book's editor. This book marks the first translation of Yoshimoto's into English. The guys conclude with a completely different kind of book, Fujita's Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku, Vol. 1(Kodansha Comics). The title is a series of episodes -- think of a sitcom -- of a small group of young workers, all of whom are otaku (those with obsessive interests in very specific, especially fan-based, media and culture) and interact in everyday scenarios, at work and otherwise. The guys aren't near as enthusiastic about this work as they are with the others reviewed in this episode. However, Derek is more open to Wotakoithan Shea. In fact, Shea even wonders if the emphases in this series may not even be counterproductive, if not harmful, to consumer health.
**Dimension Jumping Lassie** Andrew and Producer Rob are back to talk about some narrative sequential art (you know, comics and stuff … and maybe the odd cave painting). Kicking things off this week is the news that Mysterio will be the main villain in the sequel to Spiderman: Homecoming, which leads us on to a defunct concept called Old Man Peter Parker. After that we discover that Disney World Florida is offering Marvel haircuts, and the news that Damon Lindelof's Watchmen will be a “remix” of sorts. This week's featured comics and manga America Vol. 2: Fast and Fuertona, Chi’s Sweet Adventure volume 1, Aliens: Dead Orbit and Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku volume 1. Bcom, Kat and Leo are back to discuss weeks 5 and 6 of the Spring 2018 anime season. It’s midseason, and that means it’s time for midseason cuts, so stick around for that discussion right at the end of the podcast, because it’s a very interesting one. Otherwise, these two weeks of anime had some interesting twists and turns, with Mahou Shoujo Ore in particular leaving Bcom and Leo asking Mahou Shoujo “¿Por qué?“ Golden Kamuy got a hard-on for hunting wolves, while Yotsuiro Biyori showed us its lady boner (kind of) for its pretty boys and also exposed picky eaters for the hypocrites they are. Steins;Gate 0 threw on some crocs and socks for its worst cosplay yet, and Doreiku showed us that dogs can have feelings about slavery too. The Dragon Pilots spent some time with Wilson from Cast Away, and we hope they get home in time to delivery that FedEx package. Megalo Box focused on an intensely interesting military veteran who Kat wishes was actually the main character of the series, and Wotakoi prompted us to discuss that awkward moment when your nerdy friend is “cheating” on her boyfriend, and how to handle it. Finally, Hinamatsuri explored the underground marketplace of LCD TV resales, and Darling in the FranXX began to finally reveal its true message regarding gender and reproduction, and it’s straight out of the 1950s, so buckle up for that.Recorded May 23, 2018.Timestamps:4:00 - Mahou Shoujo Ore (Eps. 5-6)20:06 - Golden Kamuy (Eps. 5-6)34:58 - Yotsuiro Biyori (Eps. 5-6)54:01 - Steins;Gate 0 (Eps. 5-6)1:11:40 - Doreiku (a.k.a. “Slave District”) (Eps. 5-6)1:42:52 - Hisone to Masotan (Eps. 5-6)1:57:27 - Megalo Box (Eps. 5-6)2:13:50 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Eps. 5-6)2:29:08 - Hinamatsuri (Eps. 5-6)2:43:05 - Darling in the FranXX (Eps. 16-17)3:02:43 - Midseason Cuts discussionTwitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtheriTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense

I discuss the seasonal anime Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku and compare it to some other romance anime.
Bcom, Kat and Leo return with reviews of weeks 3 and 4 of the Spring 2018 anime season for the 10 shows we chose to follow in our seasonal first impressions episode. This episode clocked in a bit longer than we expected, at just under 3 hours, because we dove deep into these shows looking to give you the best rundowns and insights possible. Honestly though, it’s really because we spent like 25 minutes on Doreiku. I don’t think there’s ever been a show covered by this podcast which the hosts disagreed on more strongly. Neither Busou Shoujo Machiavellianism nor Tsuki ga Kirei drove hosts to this kind of madness. Leo literally put on Rintarou’s labcoat from Steins;Gate and did mad scientist experiments to establish new theories to explain why Doreiku is actually just a grand social experiment. If the Doreiku conversation was a little too intense for you, stick around, because we took a break afterwards, and returned to discuss several of the most entertaining shows of the season in the second half of the episode. Seriously, do not underestimate the power of Hinamatsuri and Wotakoi to put a smile on your face!Recorded May 10th & 14th, 2018.Timestamps:3:09 - Mahou Shoujo Ore (Eps. 3-4)20:34 - Golden Kamuy (Eps. 3-4)35:57 - Yotsuiro Biyori (Eps. 3-4)54:32 - Steins;Gate 0 (Eps. 3-4)1:14:20 - Doreiku (a.k.a. “Slave District”) (Eps. 3-4)1:39:52 - Hisone to Masotan (Eps. 3-4)1:53:14 - Megalo Box (Eps. 3-4)2:09:11 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Eps. 3-4)2:25:30 - Hinamatsuri (Eps. 3-4)2:42:30 - Darling in the FranXX (Ep. 15 and SP Recap)Twitter: https://twitter.com/NerdomandOtheriTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/nerdom-and-other-nonsense/id1203061952?mt=2Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Iuqfigskscnxqhhatxmfyrec7gi?t=Nerdom_and_Other_Nonsense
Bcom, Kat and Leo are back with the final half of their Spring 2018 anime season impressions. Things got pretty heated this episode at times, but not between the hosts themselves. There are just some anime that really bring out the ire of our hosts, and press all of our buttons. It seemed like almost all of those anime were in this second half of our impressions. Whether it was Doreiku and Magical Girl Site for Bcom, Hisone to Masotan and Comic Girls for Kat, or Devil’s Line and Bcom constantly editing the Google doc to annoy Leo, we all had to blow off some steam this episode. But that’s ok, because we made it through, and finally chose the top 10 anime that we’ll be covering this season…even if one of those choices left Bcom literally speechless…Recorded April 29, 2018.Timestamps:1:45 – Doreiku: The Animation (a.k.a “Slave District” or “23 Slaves and Me”) (Eps. 1-2)23:29 - Tada Never Falls in Love (Eps. 1-2)30:07 - Dances with the Dragons (Eps. 1-2)34:25 - Hisone to Masotan (Eps. 1-2)46:28 - Megalo Box (Eps. 1-3)56:00 - Comic Girls (Eps. 1-2)1:03:43 - Isekai Izakaya (Eps. 1-2)1:07:47 - Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku (Eps. 1-3)1:16:00 - Full Metal Panic!
