Welcome back to The Busy Vibrant Mom podcast! I'm your host, Michelle Byrd, and I'm so glad you're here.  Can I ask you something? Does it feel like the moment school started your calendar went from zero to sixty overnight? One minute you are soaking up the last lazy days of summer and the next you are staring down a week packed with drop offs, sports practices, homework battles, and approximately seventeen places you need to be at the same time. I feel this so deeply. There was a season in our family where my husband and I were easily spending five hours a day in the car driving kids to school and sports. Five hours. I want you to know that if you are in that season right now — it does get easier. One day the kids drive themselves and you get your afternoons back. That day is coming. I promise. But right now you are in the thick of it — and today I want to help. I am sharing my top 10 school season friction points and more importantly how to actually fix them. We are talking about morning chaos, homework battles, the 5pm dinner scramble, tech wars, activity logistics, and the secret sauce that holds all of it together. This is a practical one — and I think you are going to walk away with at least two or three things you can try this week.  So grab your coffee, take a deep breath, and let's dive in Quick Announcement  The doors to the fall group coaching program just closed last week.  If you are bummed that you missed out, we will do another round this spring before summer hits (so mark you calendar).  In the meantime … There will be some VIP personal coaching slots for one on one coaching, so keep an eye on your inbox for more information  You can always leave a question for me on the website www.byrdmichelle.com and I will answer it right here on the podcast (essentially free coaching)  You can grab the productivity planner on the website.  It has all my favorite time management tools, and how to map out your week.  I use it with all my clients.  Also, just this week you can access my friend Allison's Birthday bundle! She does an incredible job of gathering top notch resources and organizing them in a way that makes it easy to grab what you need.  Here's the link if you want to check it out: www.allisonhardy.com/allisons-42nd-birthday-bash-bundle   I pray this episode blesses you! Can I tell you a quick story? Before I had kids I worked as an admin for the CEO of a financial firm. On my very first day I walked up to my new cubicle — and internally lost it. There were scattered papers, random binders, stuff everywhere. An absolute mess. So before I did anything else I spent that entire first day cleaning, filing, and creating systems. It just came naturally to me. I'm telling you this because that same instinct — to organize the chaos, find the solution, create the system — is exactly why I started coaching moms. Because I kept seeing brilliant, capable women completely drowning in the juggle of work, kids, home, and life — and I knew I could help. Today I want to share why I do what I do, what I believe is the single most important thing to remember when you are trying to manage your time, and the one thing that actually makes the difference — and it is probably not what you think. We are talking about: ✨ The story behind why I started coaching moms ✨ Why the latest planner or productivity app is not your answer ✨ The one thing every mom needs to finally create a week that works ✨ How to build a family rhythm that is fluid enough to actually last So grab your coffee, take a deep breath, and let's dive in.   Quick Announcement  The doors to the fall group coaching program are open and they will close THIS THURSDAY EVENING, 8/20/26 All the information for the group coaching program is on the website (www.byrdmichelle.com).  It's a 12 week hybrid program (group coaching & personal coaching bi weekly), small limited group of 20 women (intimate & intentional), we walk through a proven framework, to create a week that actually works for you and your family so you can be productive and present.  If you have any questions about it, email me at contact@byrdmichelle.com or check out the website (www.byrdmichelle.com).   If you know you want to snag your spot go to: https://byrdmichelle.thrivecart.com/group-coaching-program/   I pray this episode blesses you! If your brain has been making decisions since 6 a.m. and it's not even 9 yet, this episode is for you. What's for dinner? What workout am I doing? What needs to happen for school today? What appointment am I forgetting? What does everyone need from me next? The mental load of motherhood adds up fast. And sometimes the problem isn't that you have too much to do. It's that you're making and remaking the same tiny decisions all day long. In this episode, we're not just talking about how to manage decision fatigue better. We're talking about how to actually lower your mental load by removing decisions altogether. I'm sharing one piece of advice a business coach gave me years ago that changed the way I approach my workouts, meal planning, homeschool rhythms, home, health, and even my business: Make the decision once. Then keep repeating it. We'll walk through five practical ways to do exactly that so you can stop relying on willpower, build simple systems that carry you through busy seasons, and have more energy left for the people and things that actually matter. In this episode, you'll learn: How to identify decisions you can make once instead of remaking every day Why systems work better than relying on discipline and willpower How a simple weekly reset can keep one hard week from becoming a hard month How to lower the barrier to workouts, meal planning, and healthy habits before you're tired Why consistency isn't about starting over. It's about learning to return. How to create rhythms that adjust when your capacity changes from one season to another If you're overwhelmed by all the decisions you're carrying as a busy mom, I want you to remember this: You don't need more discipline. You need fewer decisions. Make it once. Build the system. Reset weekly. Lower the barrier. And when life gets messy, return instead of restart. In this episode, I sit down with advocacy expert Cynthia Levin to challenge one of the biggest lies busy working moms believe: that making a difference requires more time than we have. Cynthia shares how she began advocating while raising babies, not after life got easier, and explains why moms are uniquely equipped to create real change. We talk about simple, practical ways to use your voice, why even small actions matter, and how advocacy can fit into an already full life. If you've ever cared deeply about an issue but felt like one person couldn't make a difference, this conversation will completely shift your perspective.86In this episode, we unpack:Why moms are some of the most powerful advocates in the worldSimple ways to create change in just a few minutes a dayHow to advocate even when you're overwhelmed and short on timeWhy your personal story matters more than being an expertEasy first steps to help you confidently use your voiceWork with me:Join Ambitious & Balanced: www.rebeccaolsoncoaching.com/ambitiousandbalanced Book a Work-Life Balance Strategy Call: www.rebeccaolsoncoaching.com/ambitiousandbalanced-call Download the Free Daily Kickstart:www.ambitiousandbalanced.com/daily-kickstartConnect with Cynthia:Website:www.AdvocacyMadeEasy.comFree "Advocacy How-To” Resource:https://ccylevin.substack.com/t/advocacy-how-tosCynthia's Book:https://www.amazon.com/Changing-Diapers-World-Advocates-Started/dp/1955985332Instagram:www.instagram.com/ccylevinLinkedIn:www.linkedin.com/in/cynthiachangyitlevin/

“I Want Our House to Be a Place of Rest and Joy”: One Tiny Home Reset That Makes the Next Part of the Day Easier // 350

Have you ever looked around your house and thought, “I want this home to feel peaceful. I want it to feel like rest and joy. But right now, it just feels like work”? The table is filled with schoolbooks. The sink has dishes. Shoes are scattered near the door. Someone needs help. Someone is hungry. The house has been used all day for learning, meals, play, work, and care. In this episode, I'm talking about what to do when the whole house seems to need attention, but you do not have the time or capacity to clean everything. I share a simple question that helps me narrow my attention: What small space needs to be usable again before we can move forward? If dinner is next, you may not need to clean the whole kitchen. You may only need to wash the pan you plan to use and clear enough counter space to prepare the meal. Before lunch, you may only need to move the books and clear enough of the table for everyone to sit down. Before an appointment, you may need to move the bags and shoes blocking the doorway—not finish the entire room. I also share something an occupational therapist told me when my children were small and I felt embarrassed about the toys and lived-in mess in our home. Her words helped me remember that a home being used for learning, growing, eating, resting, making mistakes, and trying again will look used. And I want to be clear: sometimes the best choice is not to clean at all. If a child needs comfort, correction, encouragement, or help calming down, that person may need your attention more than the dishes do. The goal is not to make the whole house look perfect. The goal is to notice the one obstacle making the next part of family life harder, make that small space usable, and then stop. I also share how Movie Schooling can fit naturally into a day when both the house and the homeschool need a simpler plan. It gives you a prepared way to use a wholesome movie for learning and conversation without creating another lesson from the beginning. If your house feels like work instead of a place of rest and joy, this episode will help you narrow your attention to what would help your family next—without feeling responsible for the entire house at one time. Scripture referenced: Proverbs 14:1, ESV: “The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down.” This verse is not saying that a messy room means a weary mother is tearing down her home. Building a home also includes the way we speak, respond to one another, and decide what matters most. A tidy room is not worth becoming harsh with the people in it. Mentioned in this episode: Movie Schooling — a simple guide for families who want to use wholesome movies for meaningful learning, conversation, and connection without creating another lesson from the beginning. This episode is supported by: CTC Math — comprehensive video lessons and flexible, self-paced math learning for busy homeschool families. XOXO, Katie
