The 13th Annual RVA Environmental Film Festival will kick off March 10 at 7:30 p.m. with a showing of the critically acclaimed documentary, “Wildcat,” in The Dome at the Science Museum of Virginia. The film captures a veteran's journey to healing as he cares for an orphaned baby ocelot from a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center in the Amazon. Directors Melissa Lesh and Trevor Frost will be on hand for Q & A. The festival will continue through March 21, with films March 11-12 at The Byrd Theatre, followed by showings at various venues throughout the community. Mrs. Barbara Snead Kinsey passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on March 26, 2021, at Harmony of Hanover in Mechanicsville, Va. Barbara was born August 30, 1930 in Richmond, Va. at the height of the American depression, to Erma Hubbard Snead and Louie Snead, who were later divorced when Barbara was two years old. During Barbara’s early years, she and her mother moved from rooming house to rooming house in Richmond. As a young lady, she spent many hours at the Byrd Theatre and collected autographs from WWII GIs. As for today, keep an eye out for possibly more storms passing through this evening.Water coolerAs of this morning, the Virginia Department of Health reports 798↘️ new positive cases of the coronavirus in the Commonwealthand 30↗️ new deaths as a result of the virus. VDH reports 111↗️ new cases in and around Richmond (Chesterfield: 29, Henrico: 63, and Richmond: 19). Since this pandemic began, 296 people have died in the Richmond region. I wonder if the tropical storm, which closed offices and testing sites had anything to do with yesterday’s low number of new reported cases—low compared to the seven-day average which stands at 1008. We’ll see if the numbers shift up today or if this is part of a larger downward trend.The big coronanews, however, is the launch of COVIDWISE, Virginia’s exposure notification app. You should download this app and install it on your phone right now. It’s an easy way to participate in the public part of public health. COVIDWISE runs on your phone and exchanges anonymous tokens with other phones you’ve spent time near. That process is safe, secure, does not track or log your location or identity, and is built on the privacy-preserving contact tracing framework put together by Apple and Google. Virginia is the first state to roll out an app built on this protocol! If you get tested for COVID-19 and the results are positive, the Virginia Department of Health will give you a code to enter into COVIDWISE which will then trigger a notification to any phone you’ve spent time near over the last 14 days using those anonymized tokens. Then those folks can take the proper precautions to quarantine or get tested if they’re experiencing some early, slightly-troubling coronasymptoms. Here’s a more detailed comic involving rabbits that’ll gently, but thoroughly, explain how this all can work while maintaining everyone involved’s privacy. Like I said, you should just put this on your phone immediately. I am not a lawyer, but if I were in charge of app deployment at a large company, I’d put it on my employees’ phones immediately, too. I’d call my parents and tell them to put it on their phones. I’d tweet about it daily. I’d ruthlessly and publicly mock friends that refuse to put it on their phones. This is one of the smallest and easiest ways that you can directly contribute to making the pandemic less bad while also making the lives of our local case investigators and contact tracers a little better. They are working very hard and very much deserve your help! Honestly, I’m astounded by the number of folks who have Big Privacy Concerns™ about an app like this yet have no problems pouring personal data into Facebook each and every day. I know our public trust in technology has been broken (by companies like Facebook!), but this is a small, safe step to rebuilding that trust in the name of public health. It’s boring yet possibly critical in our ongoing work to help prevent folks from getting COVID-19.Part of the difficulty with this discussion has been that the relevant experts, including infectious-disease specialists, epidemiologists, environmental and aerosol engineers, don’t even agree on the terminology. The particles we emit from our mouths can be called droplets, microdroplets, droplet nuclei (particles that start out bigger but get smaller because of evaporation) or aerosols. There is no clear line between big and small particles and droplets and aerosols; it’s a continuum with complex aerodynamics depending on the environment, and to make matters worse, the same word—like aerosol—sometimes means something different in each field. The terminological confusion led Milton to write a “Rosetta Stone” paper to try to clarify the terms across fields.    Apostle Tonya is the firstborn of the late Mr. Ronald and Mother Bertha Mae Vaughn. Both of her parents are with the Lord in their Heavenly Home.  It was her beloved mother's unwavering faith, deep love and reverence for Jesus which captivated Tonya and ignited her desire to be close to the Lord at a very young age.  Her mother was a virtuous, holy and anointed woman of God.  Mother Vaughn, full of God's wisdom would spend hours reading the Word, worshiping and communing with Jesus.  As she battled with infirmities in her body, she never complained -- she suffered with grace, amazing joy and the love of the Lord.  It was by watching her mother's lifetime devotion to the Lord that paved the way for Tonya to fall in love and follow Jesus.   Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon His Name.  Malachi 3:16  Tonya radiates with an unbridled love for our Heavenly Father.  When you first meet her, it is her heart for the Father that immediately draws you into her presence.  She will lovingly begin to share; it is the Lord that has kept her during major    In 2004, she founded Leave the Wilderness, Inc., an organization dedicated to assisting abused women and their children.  During the eight years the organization was in operation; Tonya brought transparency and attention to a cause dear to her heart: children.  In November 2005, a longtime dream came true as she debuted, a sold-out play entitled, Leaving the Wilderness at the landmark Byrd Theatre in Richmond,  Virginia.    In the past few years, as Tonya has walked closer to the Lord, the revelation and assignments of her forthcoming books was given to her. Welcome to another edition of PoPolitickin. In this episode, we politick with recording artist and songwriter Ms. Proper. Ms Proper began writing at the age of eight under the influence of her poetic mother. After years of transforming her craft and exploring the recording process it wasn't until 2005 that she began to take her career as a musician more seriously. With her heart into music, she created So Proper Entertainment and employed a roster of other talented artists in the Virginia area to whom she executive produced albums for. However, her love for music broadened once listeners requested that she release her own compilation of songs for them to enjoy, which birthed her debut mixtape, Addicted To The Game. In 2007, Ms Proper was selected to perform in her first show at the Byrd Theatre in Richmond, Virginia. It was at that time that she knew how much she truly loved being an artist herself. Since then Ms Proper has released three projects, numerous singles, performed in many venues along the East Coast and South, and also landed a performance on one of BET's most memorable shows, 106 & Park.
