This is Garrison Hardie with your CrossPolitic Daily News Brief for Tuesday, March 28th, 2023. We start today with the heartbreaking situation that unfolded in Nashville TN, Three children and three staff members were gunned down at a private Christian school in Nashville on Monday before the shooter, a heavily armed 28-year-old woman, was killed by police, authorities said. The shooting unfolded at The Covenant School on Burton Hills Boulevard where officers "engaged" the attacker, described by Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake as a woman who appears to be a former student at the school. Nashville School Shooting: Police chief provides update- Play 0:05-2:42 https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/school-shooting-tennessee-leaves-multiple-injured-shooter-dead-officia-rcna76841 Shooting at Nashville Christian school leaves at least 3 children and 3 adults dead, officials say The shooter was identified as Audrey Hale, a Nashville resident, three law enforcement officials briefed on the matter told NBC News. The shooter was killed on the school's second floor, a police spokesperson said. She had two "assault-type rifles and a handgun," according to the official. Students of the school, which serves preschool students through sixth graders, were being bused to Woodmont Baptist Church, two miles away, to be reunited with their parents. Police said they first got calls about the shooter at 10:13 a.m. CT and Nashville firefighters first reported their personnel were responding to an “active aggressor” at 10:39 a.m. CT. "The police department response was swift," police spokesperson Don Aaron told reporters. Five police officers came upon the shooter and two opened fire on her, Aaron said. The shooter entered the school through a "side entrance" on the first floor, he added. It was not clear how the shooter gained access to the school. One officer was hurt by shattered glass, officials said. The names and ages of the victims have not been released. The chief said the families of all six victims had been notified. Please lift that school, and those affected families in your prayers. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/education/republicans-introduce-resolution-scrap-student-forgiveness Republicans announce resolution to scrap Biden student loan forgiveness plan Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) and Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) announced legislation Monday to scrap President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness program. Under the resolution, Congress will express disapproval of the student loan cancellation plan to overturn the program, which is stuck in limbo amid a court battle. The resolution will need a simple majority to clear the Senate and is expected to draw a veto from Biden. On the Senate side, Sens. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) are backing the Congressional Review Act resolution alongside Cassidy, the ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. Biden unveiled the student loan forgiveness plan last August to much fanfare from progressives. Under the initiative, borrowers with an annual income of $125,000 or less can have up to $10,000 in federal student loans canceled, while those who received Pell Grants during their schooling can have up to $20,000 wiped out. The program stems from the 2003 HEROES Act, which grants the executive power to relieve student loan debt in times of national emergency or war. Critics have pointed out that Biden deemed the COVID-19 pandemic was "over" in a 60 Minutes interview last year. The pandemic was used as justification for using the HEROES Act. Last November, a lower court in Texas halted the program amid pending legal challenges. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the program's legality by June or July. The White House says it has amassed roughly 26 million applications and approved 16 million for relief, but cancellation has not yet taken place amid the legal wrangling. Biden used his veto power for the first time last week to reject a resolution that would've nixed a Labor Department rule permitting retirement plans to take into account environmental, social, and governance considerations in investment decisions. https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/fdic-first-citizens-bank-reached-deal-purchase-silicon-valley-bank FDIC says First Citizens Bank has reached deal to purchase Silicon Valley Bank The Silicon Valley Bank finally has a buyer. On Sunday, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) announced First-Citizens Bank & Trust Company of Raleigh, North Carolina entered a purchase agreement for all deposits and loans of Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, National Association. "The 17 former branches of Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, National Association, will open as First–Citizens Bank & Trust Company on Monday, March 27, 2023," the FDIC said in a statement. "Customers of Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, National Association, should continue to use their current branch until they receive notice from First–Citizens Bank & Trust Company that systems conversions have been completed to allow full–service banking at all of its other branch locations," the statement continued. Depositors of the Santa Clara, California-located bank will automatically become depositors of First–Citizens Bank & Trust Company, according to the statement, and all deposits will be assumed and insured by First–Citizens Bank & Trust Company, up to the insurance limit. The FDIC said: "As of March 10, 2023, Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, National Association, had approximately $167 billion in total assets and about $119 billion in total deposits. Today's transaction included the purchase of about $72 billion of Silicon Valley Bridge Bank, National Association's assets at a discount of $16.5 billion." In addition, approximately $90 billion in securities and other assets will remain in the receivership for disposition by the FDIC. According to the statement, the FDIC and First–Citizens Bank & Trust Company entered into a "loss–share transaction" on all commercial loans it purchased from Silicon Valley Bank (SVB). The FDIC estimated SVB's failure cost approximately $20 billion, although a cost will be more accurately determined when the FDIC terminates the receivership, it said. The FDIC created Silicon Valley Bridge Bank after the California Department of Financial Protection & Innovation closed Silicon Valley Bank on Friday, March 10. All of the deposits—both insured and uninsured—were transferred to the bridge bank. Alps Precious Metals Group THE PAST WEEK HAS BROUGHT SOME “EXCITEMENT” TO THE MARKETS. BANK RUNS. STOCK COLLAPSES. As announced by the city of Lake Oswego's police department, they "conducted a human sex trafficking mission with the assistance of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon City Police, Milwaukie Police, and Sandy Police," on Thursday, March 23, 2023. "During the operation, decoys (law enforcement officers) were contacted by men who offered to pay money in exchange for the decoys to perform requested sexual acts," the department stated, going on to describe how the eight suspects allegedly agreed to meet with the supposed trafficking victims, and were subsequently "arrested and charged with the relevant crimes." Suspects Stephen R. Berry, Maximilien Aquitaine, Austin L. Olson, Vincent S. Namauleg, German D. Pascual, Jake R. Walt, and Erik J. Bjorman were all cited and released for Commercial Sexual Solicitation, officials said. However, according to the Lake Oswego Police Department, the assistant principal of Centennial High School in Gresham, Oregon was hit with additional charges. "Terrance A. Schloth (1/11/71) of Gresham, OR initially gave a false name and refused to identify himself," police stated. "As a result, he was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail in order to get a positive identification. He was charged for Commercial Sexual Solicitation (ORS 167.008) and the additional charge of Giving False Information to a Peace Officer in Connection with a Citation (ORS 162.385)." According to 52-year-old Schloth's LinkedIn page, he had been working in education for over 27 years, going from a Reynolds High School physical education teacher, to educational leader, to dean of students, and eventually serving as the assistant principal in 2014 before moving to the Centennial School District. Schloth was a progressive. His LinkedIn boasts of anti-bullying and restorative justice initiatives. According to his school profile, two of the accused administrator's children attend Centennial as well. The school district placed Schloth on administrative leave following his arrest, Conan Daily reported.
After a battle with knee surgery and then a cancer diagnosis, Minnesota Duluth freshman defenseman Will Francis recently made his college hockey debut. The towering 6 foot 5, 21-year-old who played for Centennial High School and who was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Draft, suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice just 10 games into the 2019-20 season with Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the United States Hockey League. Then in March of 2020, he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia — a cancer of the blood. Francis was declared cancer-free on July 9, 2020, but getting his strength back and getting back into game shape took some time as he explains in this week's episode. News Tribune reporter Matt Wellens, joined by Zach Schnieder and Bruce Ciskie also discuss the recent news of NCHC commissioner Josh Fenton announcing he will be leaving the league after nine seasons in April. The three make the case for being the new commissioner, which is almost 100 percent unlikely, and offer some verbal letters of recommendation for Bulldogs who'd be good for the job. Matt also creates a fan contest. Tune in around 30 minutes in to see how you could win a Rink Live hat. It won't be easy. You can find more episodes of Bulldog Insider wherever you listen to podcasts. New episodes air every Thursday. Bulldog Insider is co-hosted by Duluth News Tribune sports reporter Matt Wellens and My9 television voice of Bulldog hockey Zach Schneider. This week we're replaying a classic GTP episode where your hosts Steve Lowry and Yvonne Godfrey interview Daniel Rodriguez, Chantal A. Trujillo & Danay Gonzalez of Rodriguez & Associates Trial Lawyers (https://www.rodriguezlaw.net/). Remember to rate and review GTP in iTunes: Click Here To Rate and Review Case Details: Rodriguez & Associates trial lawyers Daniel Rodriguez, Chantal A. Trujillo, and Danay Gonzalez explain how they became the first trial team to present a school shooting-related civil claim to a jury. On January 10, 2013, Bowe Cleveland was shot by a fellow student, who was repeatedly reported to Taft Union High School administrators for making violent threats, having a "hit list" and drawing scenes of killings. Administrators failed to update their threat assessment plan and implement intervention tactics. As a result, Bowe was shot in his science classroom and suffered multiple punctures in his right lung, massive blood loss, and fractured ribs, requiring over 30 surgical procedures. To this day, Bowe's chest is full of shotgun pellets, and he struggles with PTSD. A Bakersfield, California jury found eight individuals, including the school's assistant principal, negligent and partially responsible for Bowe's injuries, returning a verdict of $3.8 million. Click Here to Read/Download the Complete Trial Documents Guest Bios: Daniel Rodriguez Daniel Rodriguez has a background that is a little bit different than the typical lawyer. Daniel grew up in a migrant farm-worker family. He and his family were constantly on the move. He lived and worked in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and California. Daniel and his five siblings attended between three and five different schools each year up until college. In addition to working in the fields, Daniel later held a variety of jobs going through college and law school. To name a few, Daniel worked as a dishwasher, worked for PG&E in their mapping department, worked as a salesperson for Sears, Roebuck & Co., sold encyclopedias door to door, and pumped gas at a full-service gas station. Another job that Daniel held was working as a roustabout and mechanic in the oilfields for Atlantic Richfield Co. in Kern County. All of these jobs helped mold Daniel's perspective on life. Namely, that there's no substitute for putting in the hard work. Daniel's career as a lawyer is also a little bit different than the typical plaintiff's lawyer. The vast majority of plaintiff's lawyers hardly ever go to trial. Most of them may take a case to trial once every five years or so. Daniel tried his first jury trial within one month of getting his license to practice law. Daniel's skill as a personal injury lawyer in Bakersfield has not gone unnoticed. Daniel is proud of the fact that he was selected to teach at Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College. This trial advocacy school is widely considered to be the best in the country. What does jury trial experience and trial skills mean to the client? That Daniel will obtain top and full value for the client's case because insurance companies respect and fear a skilled and experienced trial lawyer. Daniel's professional dedication to the Kern County community has earned him nationwide recognition. He's been selected to the California Super Lawyers list (by Super Lawyers®) every year since 2009. In 2015, he was named Best Lawyer in Bakersfield by the Best of Bakersfield Reader's Choice Awards. He is also a member of The National Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only group composed of the premier trial lawyers from across the United States. He's been a guest on Hot 94.1's “The Romeo Show”, Univision, and interviewed in major news outlets. Read Full Bio Danay Gonzalez Danay was born in Bakersfield and raised in Lamont, California. In this small town, her family owned a jewelry store where Danay grew up learning the value of community. There, she learned how to work hard and interact with customers. While they loved their home in Lamont, Danay's family moved to Bakersfield to pursue new opportunities when she was in the eighth grade. She went on to graduate from Ridgeview High School, where she enjoyed being in choir and theatre, reading and writing in her English classes, and debating politics with her fellow students in AP courses. After high school, Danay attended UCLA, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Political Science in 2013 (Once a Bruin, always a Bruin!). While she loved living in Los Angeles and experiencing a different life with new horizons in the city, she always knew that she wanted to come home and be a positive influence in her community. Growing up in Lamont, she saw that many of her classmates were afraid to speak up for themselves at the risk of being deported or getting their families in trouble. She saw them living in fear, and she knew that it wasn't right. She saw the way that the people of her community looked up to Daniel Rodriguez, not only for being a successful member of the Hispanic community but also for the way that he fought for the rights of her friends and neighbors. Because of his influence, she knew she wanted to become a lawyer and stand up for people's rights like he does. Coming from a family where her grandparents couldn't read, write, or speak English, Danay is passionate about giving a voice to the people who need it most. Read Full Bio Chantal A. After venturing to the Lone Star state, Chantal found herself back in Bakersfield, where she was born and raised. In late 2011, she joined the team at Rodriguez & Associates, where she has gained a home away from home. She is well-known for late nights at the office, consistently putting in the extra hours to achieve positive results in all of her cases. During Chantal's time at the firm, she has handled numerous personal injury and wrongful death cases, some of which have gone to jury trial and produced great verdicts. Working in this field has shaped Chantal tremendously into the kind of lawyer you forget is a lawyer because of how much of herself she pours into her cases. Codi Galloway is a conservative mom, business owner, outdoor enthusiast, and former elementary school teacher who believes in a conservative government in Idaho. As the Republican candidate for the Idaho House of Representatives in District 15B, she will prioritize making the Idaho economy strong through a business friendly environment, keeping taxes low and enhancing education. I am committed to keeping Idaho a great place to be!Listen in as Codi shares why she is running for office!Get to Know Codi:Elementary School TeacherAfter graduating from college, I got my first job as a public school teacher. For three years, I taught kids how to think for themselves, use data to solve problems, and communicate effectively. My favorite part of teaching was helping kids find their individual strengths and capitalize on their unique abilities. Wife and Mother to Four KidsI married my high school sweetheart, Scott Galloway, and we came back to Boise to start our family. Our first three kids were born in under four years! I was their stay at home mom and loved watching my little ones grow. Profitable Business OwnerWhen my kids went off to school, I decided I was ready to go back to school too. Instead of returning to the public school system, I started my own school. Together, with my husband, we opened LeapFox Learning on the corner of Eagle Rd and Fairview. With hard work, a few mistakes, and some good mentoring we grew LeapFox into one of the largest technical training schools in Idaho. I count building a profitable business from scratch to sale as one of my key accomplishments. I lived the American dream and now have a deep admiration for all those who take risks and work long hours, with or without a paycheck, to keep our economy rolling. Outdoor Girl who loves her Family and FaithI love to be outside! You might catch me with my kids on skis at Bogus in the winter or Lucky Peak in the summer. We like them both! In the past few years, I have been racing Spartans with my husband, the Boise Ironman with my friends, and climbing mountains with my family. Connecting with people outside and being active brings me great joy. Sunday mornings you will find me with my family in church. I have been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all my life. Representing My Boise NeighborhoodI was born to a fighter pilot dad and a patriotic mom. From the time I was a little girl I was taught to honor and respect the freedom we enjoy in America; I love the USA and am proud to have called Idaho home for the past 40 years. I went to kindergarten in this district and watched my son graduate from Centennial High School in June. My husband and I chose to raise our family where we grew up, because we love our community! Idaho is a great place to live, work and play, but if we are not careful, we will become an over-governed, red tape state, with high taxes and sub-par opportunities in education. To support Codi Galloway click here

2020 New Mexico NFHS Summer Study Session Defensive Schemes Head Coach Aaron Ocampo, Centennial High School, Las Cruces, NM Defensive Coach We Hurley, La Cueva High School, Albuquerque, NM Dennis Barela (4s): All right. Good morning. Morning, Ken. So we're back first training session of 2020 summer. We ended the spring rule session last month, about four weeks ago where we did, I don't know, 24 webinars and had, and you name it. We had a festival on giving us some great training from NFL down to division two to high school, high school experts from like Bob Arknown from Gannett, right from Alabama, just giving us some, some great, great training to the New Mexico high school officials. Dennis Barela (43s): But this morning we have two gentlemen from Albuquerque and from Las Cruces, they're high school football coaches that have a great to train us in defensive schemes and how they see the, the game of football through a defensive coaches perspective. So it's going to be interesting. This is the coaches opportunity to really talk to officials and kind of get everybody on the same page. Dennis Barela (1m 18s): So with that, Ken, are you there? Ken Adent (1m 22s): Yeah. Good morning, Dennis morning, everybody. Thanks for tuning in. It's been quite the spring session that we had, and I hope you guys, if he didn't get a chance to watch these live hit behind the flag website, AFOA ref website, and you guys can pull up all these previous webcasts, but today I'm really excited for, because we'd been talking about learning defensive schemes and defensive formations to make us better officials and really excited that these two coaches jumped on the first gentlemen who's gonna is on before I introduce. Ken Adent (2m 4s): And are you there? I can't tell. Okay. If not, no, we've got coach West Hurley from the high school defensive coordinator. As you guys all know these two coaches have their teams are always powerhouses year after year, and it never happens without a strong defense. So West has been married for 11 years to his wife. I don't have her name. They have an eight year old daughter Aspen, and a seven year old son of Noah West played for Carlsbad. Ken Adent (2m 38s): I didn't know that he'd been a quaver coach for eight years. Last four years have been defensive coordinator. Liquid has been in many state championship games. West is a national board certified math teacher and the Dean of students at the Academy at APS. So quite the resume there, Wes, I personally want to you for coming on. When I reached out to the head coach there he was Brandon. He just jumped all over this. So you guys at have always been really helpful for us officials. Ken Adent (3m 12s): You guys have even showed up at some of our meetings for the Albuquerque group and given us your time there. And we appreciate that as well. So take it away West the screen jurors. Wes Hurley (3m 29s): Thank you guys. I just want to say first, thanks. Thanks for having us. It's it's a pleasure to get to do this. I was talking to Dennis and I think this is like a, just a really cool experience and a really cool thing too, to sit down and actually talk football. And like me and Aaron were talking about, you know, we talk about football all the time with kids and clinics and stuff like that, but to be able to do it with reps is it's a really cool experience and a really good idea. I think. So. I just want to say thank you for the opportunity and thank you guys for, for all that you do for the game and, and allowing us to do it. Wes Hurley (4m 4s): So let's get started here. Can you guys see that? Yeah, we can see your screen. I don't know if I can hear him. Okay. Awesome. All right. So, so our basic defensive scheme is a four to five. That's four downline men, two inside linebackers, and then five DBS. Wes Hurley (4m 37s): We have two strong safety is on either side. Those... Support this podcast
GoVols247's Wes Rucker (from Fort Rucker Studio) and Patrick Brown (from his house at an undisclosed location) and Ryan Callahan (from his house across town) convened via the magic of Al Gore's Internets to discuss four-star wide receiver Julian Nixon's commitment to Tennessee. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Nixon has been a big-time prospect since early in his career at Centennial High School in Roswell, Ga., but he claimed to choose Tennessee over Ohio State and Georgia. Auburn was a factor for much of his recruitment, as well, and for a while the Tigers seemed to be the team to beat. Ultimately, though, the No. 238 overall player in the 2021 industry-generated 247Sports Composite chose the Vols. Nixon became the Vols' third high-profile commitment in three days, joining five star-edge rusher Dylan Brooks (who committed to Sunday) and four-star safety Kamar Wilcoxson (who committed to Monday) as the newest additions to a Tennessee class that has soared from No. 17 to No. 5 nationally in less than 48 hours. What kind of player is Nixon? How does he fit into Tennessee's system? Is he definitely a wide receiver going forward, or could be grow into a tight end or a hybrid pass catcher? How has Tennessee gotten so hot on the recruiting trail during this prolonged dead period caused by the COVID-19 pandemic? Is recruiting momentum a real thing, or is this three-day heater a coincidence? What does this commitment mean for the rest of Tennessee's 2021 class? Those are the main topics discussed in this one-segment episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Logan later sang "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" by City and Colour and "What a Time" by Julia Michaels, ft. Niall Horan in a duet with Michaels. Afterwards, the judges told him he did not become a Top 14 finalist and he was eliminated. Logan has moved back to Boise since the competition and is planning on continuing his vocal career and using this opportunity as a springboard to spread his message and story with the world. ----------------------------------------------------------- Connecting with the community is a priority for BVA.
