Ramiz Hakim is the Wright City Alderman, he joins Megan Lynch to highlight the more than '2 dozen incidents' that have happened in a construction zone along I-70. A tractor trailer crash shut the highway down for several hours yesterday. The construction is part of the I-70 widening project.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue is warning Minnesotans NOT to engage with text messages claiming to provide tax refunds. Work was paused today on road construction projects across the state... after two workers died in separate incidents in construction zones last week. MnDOT says the first-ever statewide safety stand-down was held in part to honor the lives lost. It also was a chance for workers to have discussions and share their experiences in an effort to recommit to and improve work zone safety.Those stories and more in today's evening update from MPR News. It got me thinking that I really want to start something with my Legacy Fiber Artz minis from previous year advents. Maybe a Granny Stripe blanket? Or perhaps another Recollections crochet blanket. I made one in the summer of 2022 (check out my Ravelry Project Page). It uses fingering weight yarn held triple and treble crochets. You work each row right to left and cut each time. between each set of clusters you use a main color. Debating using Fibernymph 10g minis from last year's advent for those rows (notes say it used- about 8g per row but that's held triple which might just be too annoying). I'm debating making a smaller blanket that will live on the backseat of my car, draped over. Mostly for the pop of color with my gray interior but I bet the kids would use it when they're back there. I'd also like to make a crocheted granny square tank top for the summer so I could potentially use some of my minis for that. It isn't always easy to get through a construction zone on a busy, hot day. So we decided to talk to an expert. Nick Penney is the general manager of Young Drivers of Canada, and he joined our Morning Show reporter Andrea McGuire on location from a downtown construction site to discuss road safety.

He shares some great advice. As drivers, follow work zone signs, slow down, and save lives!Take a listen to this podcast replay. Original Content:We've all been there, you're in your car on your way to your annual family vacation destination or just making your daily trip to work, and you're stopped or slowed down because of traffic due to road construction. It seems like road construction and repair are everywhere, and you're right, it is! And whether you believe it or not, it's a good thing. With the recent Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, road construction and repair of bridges and highways are booming and making our infrastructure in PA better and safer.We invited the Executive Director of CAWP (The Constructors of Western Pennsylvania), Rich Barcaskey to give us some insight into heavy highway repair, construction, and the importance of being a patient and responsible driver when you are driving through construction zones. One of the most important, if not the most important concern for the CAWP is the safety of their workers. As drivers, we can do our part by obeying the speed limit, minimizing distractions, and staying alert while driving through construction areas. This summer CAWP developed a new initiative to recognize the hard-working men and women working in heavy highway and construction. The program is called CAWP Cares and includes a bag packed with essentials for workers to help them take care of themselves— sunscreen, a cooling towel,  a tick-removal kit, and many more useful items to have on the job. CAWP has also included a printed brochure with daily tips to help them with their mental health and physical well-being. Construction zones are a pain in the a$$ right?They mess up traffic. They ruin your commute. Everyone seems to forget the rules of the road and it's just super frustrating. Yet, when we FIRST see that they are going to fix that road, it's exciting. And when it's FINALLY done, it's amazing. It's just the middle that sucks. But the middle is when the work gets done…You see where I'm going here…it's the same thing with any project you are working on or any goal you are working towards. It's all sunshine and rainbows when we start and oh it's going to be great when it's finished.However, everything in between those…ohhhh that's the part that gets us. In this episode,  I discuss how to recognize when you are in the middle and what to do about it.
