Canadian artist-professor Luc Courchesne was an early convert to media arts some 50 years ago. He began utilizing computer technologies in 1984 to create interactive video and later with his immersive and interactive installations, "panoscopic" images, and devices of his own, he helped transform spectators into visitors, actors and inhabitants of his experiential crafts. Charlie Morrow interviews on immersive common ground.
The founder of Newport Beach-based DAIM, is no stranger to managing risk and being on the forefront of innovation as we head into a new digital era and the 21st Century financial landscape. Impacted by the housing meltdown during the Great Recession, the Florida entrepreneur relocated to New York City to trade options in the pit of the exchange. Within a few years he was managing a desk of brokers as the head of equity derivative sales at a Broker-Dealer. During that time he became an Options Principal and General Securities Principal. In 2013, Courchesne began studying cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, setting the stage for him to create DAIM: a registered investment advisor and asset manager specializing in digital assets. The process for getting the license was extremely difficult but with persistence it was worth the challenge. Today DAIM manages cryptocurrency portfolios for over 200 individual clients and serves as a 3(38) fiduciary for 401K plans with direct Bitcoin exposure.Connect with Behind Company Lines and HireOtter Website Facebook Twitter LinkedIn:Behind Company LinesHireOtter Instagram Buzzsprout

I., Lifespan Brain Chart Consortium,, Tasaki, S., Ng, B., Gaiteri, C., Smoller, J. W., Ge, T., Gandal, M. J., Alexander-Bloch, A. F. Abstract: Human brain size increases dynamically through early development, peaks in adolescence, and varies up to two-fold among adults. Although previous studies have elucidated changes in brain size across evolution, development, traits, and diseases, the molecular underpinnings of interindividual variation in brain size remain unknown. Here, we leverage postmortem brain RNA sequencing and estimates of brain weight (BW) in 2,531 individuals across three independent datasets, to identify 928 genes that show genome-wide significant associations with either higher or lower BW (BW+, BW-, respectively). These BW gene sets showed distinct neurodevelopmental trajectories and spatial patterns that mapped onto developmental, functional and cellular axes of brain organization. Expression differences among evolutionarily conserved BW genes were predictive of interspecies differences in brain size, and functional annotation of BW genes revealed enrichment for neurogenesis and cell-cell communication. Genome-wide, transcriptome-wide, and phenome-wide association analyses of in vivo neuroimaging phenotypes confirmed that the genetic regulation of BW- transcripts influences cortical surface area and volume, as well as behavioral traits related to brain function and disease. Cumulatively, our study represents a major step towards the goal of delineating the causal mechanisms of human brain size variation in health and disease. Copy rights belong to original authors. (Part 2/2) October 18, 1987. Rochester, New Hampshire. 34-year old Alene “Lulu” Courchesne is found strangled to death next to a turnpike outside of town. Even though Lulu is engaged to someone else, she had gone out on a date the previous night with a man named Rick McCue. Rick is eventually charged with Lulu's murder and found guilty at trial, even though compelling evidence seems to point to the brother of Lulu's fiancée. After allegations of jury misconduct cause his conviction to be overturned, Rick receives a new trial and is acquitted in 1993, but no one else is ever charged with Lulu Courchesne's murder. Did Rick McCue actually commit this crime, or did the real perpetrator get away with it? This week's episode of “The Path Went Chilly” examines a controversial murder case which has yet to find a complete resolution after 30 years.Additional Reading:http://unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Rick_McCuehttp://www.nhd.uscourts.gov/sites/default/files/opinions/96/96SM067.pdfhttps://www.leagle.com/decision/1991228134nh941215

Abstract: The relationship between alcohol consumption, circulating proteins, and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk has not been well studied. We performed association analyses of alcohol consumption with three CVD risk factors and 71 CVD-related circulating proteins measured in 6,745 Framingham Heart Study participants (mean age, 49 years; 53% women). We found that an increase in alcohol consumption was associated with a higher risk of incident hypertension (P=7.2E-3) but a lower risk of incident obesity (P=5.7E-4) and type 2 diabetes (P=1.4E-5) in a 14-year of follow-up. Using independent discovery (n=4,348) and validation (n=2,397) samples, we identified 20 alcohol-associated proteins (FDR

M., Seidlitz, J., Bethlehem, R. A. I., Bertelsen, N., Carter Barnes, C., Lopez, L., Campbell, K., Lewis, N. E., Pierce, K., Courchesne, E. Abstract: Cortical regional identities develop through anterior-posterior (A-P) and dorsal-ventral (D-V) prenatal genomic patterning gradients. Here we find that A-P and D-V genomic patterning of cortical surface area (SA) and thickness (CT) is intact in typically developing and autistic toddlers with good language outcome, but is absent in autistic toddlers with poor early language outcome. Genes driving this effect are prominent in midgestational A-P and D-V gene expression gradients and prenatal cell types driving SA and CT variation (e.g., progenitor cells versus excitatory neurons). These genes are also important for vocal learning, human-specific evolution, and prenatal co-expression networks enriched for high-penetrance autism risk genes. Autism with poor early language outcome may be linked to atypical genomic cortical patterning starting in prenatal periods and which impacts later development of regional functional specialization and circuit formation. CARTA - Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny (Video)
Although the neurobiology of autism has been studied for more than two decades, the majority of studies have examined brain anatomy 10 or more years after the onset of clinical symptoms. The early neural defects that cause autism remain unknown, but their signature is likely to be most evident during the first years of life when clinical symptoms are emerging. In this lecture, Eric Courchesne (UC San Diego) highlights several new findings about the neural and genomic abnormalities in autism at young ages.
