Tim Hoeffner, a former director of the Michigan Department of Transportation's Office of Rail and now a consultant with Quandel Consultants, is the guest.Hoeffner talks about the history of passenger rail service in Michigan and offers his perspective about developments in recent years, including ongoing work to establish dependable 110 mph Amtrak service between Detroit and Chicago. Among the challenges Hoeffner discusses: Purchasing equipment to enhance riders' experience and ensure dependable service;Resolving congestion with freight lines on the Indiana portion of the Detroit-Chicago corridor; andWorking with communities along passenger lines to establish stations where it makes sense but balance that need with travel time.Hoeffner also talks about the state Legislature and federal government pitching in funding for a study of a passenger line between Ann Arbor and Traverse City.  Traverse City-based Groundwork for Resilient Communities has been a leading advocate of A2TC project. The Cadillac/Wexford Transit Authority will work in partnership with Groundwork and a team of partners to complete the planning study.

On Thursday, June 2, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced Thursday in Michigan $368 million in rail infrastructure and safety grants to 46 projects in 32 states, with about $30 million flowing to Michigan. On this week's edition of the Talking Michigan Transportation podcast, Peter Anastor, who directs the Michigan Department of Transportation's Office of Rail, talks about the economic benefits to the rail companies and businesses they serve. Buttigieg made the case for the grants in an op/ed published in the Detroit Free Press: President Biden tasked us with strengthening our supply chains, speeding the movement of people and goods, increasing production, and helping usher in newer, cleaner and cheaper energy - all of which will lower costs for families. And thanks to the president's historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we have the resources we need to do just that. The grants include $21.3 million for a proposed project to improve track and rail assets operated by the Great Lakes Central Railroad just north of Ann Arbor, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. The second grant of up to $8.7 million will go to the West Michigan Railroad Co. to pay for infrastructure improvements on roughly 10 miles of track in southwest Michigan. Anastor also discusses other exciting improvements going on with passenger rail service in Michigan, including ongoing enhancements on the Detroit-Chicago corridor to increase speeds to 110 mph. Elsewhere, advocacy continues for Traverse City-to-Ann Arbor passenger rail service.

K1971 PODCAST - DJ TUTTLE DJ Tuttle was born in 1972 in Nancy. At an early age, DJ TUTTLE plonged himself into the sounds of 70’s discofunk and 80’s New Wave. At only 14 years of age DJ TUTTLE played his first gig andof 17 he became DJ resident in his first club, the SCALA of NANCY, where he started programming the first sounds of newbeat and hiphouse. At the same time he started composing songs on the computer and with the sampler. In 1990, he created a techno program, which he taught for the first time within a school. At the same time, he travelled back and forth to Frankfurt, Brussels and Lille looking to extend his disc collection and exploring the legendary clubs such as Bocaccio and Dorian Gray. In 1994, he moved to Lille in the north of France, where he met DJ ADOLPHE (USA IMPORT), who was a famous disc jockey during this period. DJ Adolphe helped DJ Tuttle to get bookings for several rave events and clubs in France and Belgium. During this time he also released his first single with STEELWORK records (USA IMPORT). He met ZZINO the label manager of RELOAD records during one of his gigs. He listened to his tracks and got him several contracts with several famous labels such as RELOAD-SUBSOUND-futur FRONTIER which includes names such as Sven Väth, Dave Clark, Pascal Feos and his now close friend DJ CHICH. In 1998, DJ TUTTLE became resident in the L’USINE and more gigs followed in France and other countries doing DJ LIVE SETS in clubs like the REX CLUB FR, LA COVA ES, LE RACHDINGUE ES, GOLT MILK FR, GOLIATH CH…… During this time, he created his best ever discographie and played at numerous big name events. Recently he signed a contract with the label A.PAUL (NAKED LUNCH et PARALLEL 125) also with TORZTEN KANZLER’s label (TK RECORD) working together with his good friend DJ CHICH. It is with pleasure to announce that they have also strated uop a new label called “ MODULHERTZ REC ” with sounds coming from Detroit. (Detroit Chicago).

Recently Deep House Australia engaged young Sydney DJs to enter our .darkroom DJ competition. The winning DJ was offered the chance at playing a live set at the next .darkroom event, opening for a touring international DJ, Owen Howells, plus a guest spot on The DHA Podcast! A big congratulations to Hamish Radford, who has just been named our winner! Yes, it's an afternoon shindig, kicking on into the evening and late into the night, but Deep House Australia are taking over The Backroom of The Gladestone Hotel in Chippendale from 2pm in the afternoon. Don’t be late or you might miss all the action! We will also have a BBQ going, as well as the pub-food avaiblable from The Gladstone kitchen. The Gladestone is just a short 5 minute walk from Sydney's Central Station. A massive thank you to all entrants of the competition, we received a much bigger response than we could have ever imagined. Because of the sheer volume of talented mixes we received, we will also be announcing a group of runners ups over the next day or so - and will feature those mixes on our SoundCloud page. We are also hoping to engage our talented entrants for future podcasts and events on our radar, so keep an ear to the ground and watch these young talents grow. During our review of all competition entries, we rated each mix based on a number of different criteria, including: volume levels; track selection; originality; mixing; and effects. We also looked for a good structure of a mix, for example mixes with an introduction and outro, as well as use of vocals and instrumentals where appropriate. It basically consists of a bunch a records that I love and go well together, lots of Detroit/Chicago influence also there are a few vinyl-only releases in the mix. I hope you like it! Here’s a little about myself: I am 21 I live on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. At the moment my favourite artists would be Max Graef, Kid Sublime, Leon Vynhall and Nathan X to name a few. I have been DJing for about 4 and a half years. Turntableism inspired me to become a DJ, I started out just scratching and beat juggling for about a year and a half before mixing dance music. DJ's that inspired me were Mix Master Mike, Qbert, Dstyles, DJ Pump, Kid Koala etc I could go on. As for my experience as a DJ, I have played at the Burdekin a few times for an event called Significant Others which I love, also my friends ran an event for a while called Into Deep which I played for but it is not running anymore. I am a vinyl only DJ, my turntables I use at home are American Audio HTD 4.5 pretty similar to Technics 1200's. I use Ableton to produce but have not been using it for long.
