There is a quiet pandemic that's going on in the world that not enough people are talking about: chronic disease. More and more people are getting chronically ill, but what if the solution to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic conditions has actually been there all along? In this episode, university lecturer, researcher, and physiotherapist Tim Dettmann joins us to talk about how high-intensity training can literally help save lives and extend both lifespan and healthspan, and why many HIT practitioners don't realize the power they have to help their clients — and why that needs to change. This is one of those episodes that is genuinely eye-opening, even if you've been in the health and fitness sphere for a long time — don't miss it! ━━━━━━━━━━━━ Join My Free Community Here and Get A Business Course on Scaling Without Burnout ━━━━━━━━━━━━ Join HIT Experts in the HIB Pro Community here ━━━━━━━━━━━━ For the complete show notes, links, and resources, click here

Tim Dettmann is a former badminton champion and the founder of sports tech startup BEAT81. He is inspired by a simple idea: to deliver happiness and lasting wellbeing to people via fitness, tech & hospitality. To make BEAT81 as big and relevant as Crossfit, Tim and his team need word-of-mouth. Word-of-mouth is the most powerful marketing tool there is. 90% of people are much more likely to trust a recommended brand (even from strangers), and it is more effective than paid ads. Unfortunately you don't have the time to sit around and wait until people start to talk about how great your product is. You need to kickstart word-of-mouth. Tim and Oliver discuss how a growing company can trigger word-of-mouth, both digitally and in real life. WOM is a strong signal for message-market fit. On the show, they also craft the messaging that could take BEAT81 to the next level. You will be shocked when you hear the details of how the drug testing process works in CrossFit. We look at a process that has CrossFit the Judge, The Jury, The Investigator, the Executioner and the Director of Marketing. We look at inconsistencies in sentencing that make no sense. CrossFit taking the word of manufaturer over the evidence presented. So many inconsistencies so much need for change.

In this chapter of the Okie Bookcast, our focus is on the Sequoyah Book Awards and the Donna Norvell Award. The Sequoyah Awards are sponsored by the Oklahoma Library Association and are one of the oldest child-selected book awards in the country. The awards are presented at the end of March every year, so this is the perfect time to learn more about them and I've got the perfect guests to shed some light. Kirsten Walker is the Chair for the Sequoyah Administration Team for 2021-2022. She is a librarian at the Southwest Oklahoma City Library which is part of the Pioneer Library System. Kirsten has previously served on the Intermediate Sequoyah Reading Team and was chair of the Children and Teen Services Roundtable. Molly Dettmann has served on the Intermediate and High School Sequoyah Reading Committees and served as the 2020-2021 Sequoyah Administration Committee Chair. She works as a school librarian at Norman North High School and was named her school's 2021-2022 Teacher of the Year.In our conversation we talk about the history of the Sequoyah Awards, the selection process for masterlists and winners, and get a peek behind the scenes. In keeping with the Sequoyah Awards theme, our review is from Mandi MacDonald, who is the librarian and AP English teacher at North Rock Creek High School in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Mandi is also the current chair for the Intermediate Sequoyah masterlist. She reviews the 2023 Sequoyah Intermediate Masterlist book Alone by Megan E.
