Father teaches us again to be docile to the Holy Spirit, this time like Mary
Acclaimed painter and now-author Hyeseung Song has written a searing coming-of-age memoir for fans of Crying in H Mart, Minor Feelings, and the film Minari. Entitled Docile: Memoirs of a Not-So-Perfect Asian Girl, it follows the daughter of ambitious Asian American immigrant parents and Hyeseung's own search for self-worth.

July 18, 2024 - A daughter of Korean immigrants, Hyeseung Song spends her earliest years in the cane fields of Texas where her loyalties are divided between a restless father in search of Big Money, and a beautiful yet domineering mother whose resentments about her own life compromises her relationship with her daughter. With her parents at constant odds, Song learns more words in Korean for hatred than for love. When the family's fake Gucci business lands them in bankruptcy, Song moves to a new elementary school. On her first day, a girl asks the teacher: “Can she speak English?” Neither rich nor white, Song does what is necessary to be visible: she internalizes the model minority myth as well as her beloved mother's dreams to see her on a secure path. Song meets these expectations by attending the best Ivy League universities in the country. But when she wavers, in search of an artistic life on her own terms, her mother warns, “Happiness is what unexceptional people tell themselves when they don't have the talent and drive to go after real success.” Years of self-erasure take a toll and Song experiences recurring episodes of depression and mania. So begins her sweeping journey to heal herself by losing everything. In her extraordinary debut memoir Docile: Memoirs of a Not-So-Perfect Asian Girl, Song expertly weaves together the beauty and complexity of her experience. It is an immigrant story, but also a mother-daughter story, a mental health story, and ultimately a redemption story. Poetic and unflinching, Docile is a lesson in the power of love and legacy to shape us and finding the bravery to be our authentic selves in spite of the expectations we carry. In a conversation with Emma Eun-joo Choi, Song discusses her memoir. Docile: Memoirs of a Not-So-Perfect Asian Girl will be available for purchase. Could Doc Rivers be steering the Bucs ship into a tempest? We unpack the rough waters of the Bucs' recent slump and zero in on Rivers' questionable tactics—especially the glaring loss to the Pelicans without Zion on the floor. And if you're wondering why Damian Lillard's shot count is as low as your gym attendance, you're in good company. We also chew over the gaping hole Adrian Griffin's departure has left, and whether the Bucs' defense has been leaking points ever since. The conversation gets heated as we line up sports figures with only one championship ring to their names—is the glory overstated for the likes of Sean Payton, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers? Plus, we aren't shy about quarterback rankings, dropping Herbert and Tagovailoa into our brutally honest tier list. The chess game of NBA offenses and coaching strategies gets a full court press in our intense discussion. When it comes to clutch moments, why do the Boston Celtics freeze like a deer in headlights? We scrutinize their stumble against the Hawks and question whether Joe Mazzulla's playbook is all it's cracked up to be. Jason Tatum's performance comes under the microscope as we weigh his three-pointer heavy game against the legacy of the legendary Kobe Bryant—does Tatum have what it takes to lead the Celtics to victory? Don't miss our candid take on Lillard's need for more shots, Dejounte Murray's shooting spree, and just how much coaching shapes the destiny of an NBA team.Support the show

Part five of six mission values that send us out carrying the Gospel into the worldBeing docile to the Holy Spirit is the only way we can accomplish the works of God and the mission of Jesus. We are to use His grace and do His works for His glory, no matter what the world may think or say about us. This is the work of a true disciple of Jesus.Bishop Gruss: We must be authentically human (Week 4)Bishop Gruss: Do you have unshakeable confidence in the Lordship of Jesus? (Week 3)Bishop Gruss: God has set us apart for his work (Week 2)Bishop Gruss: Be ambitious for God and his kingdom! (Week 1)Bishop Gruss: We must become a Church with the same apostolic zeal as the disciples of the first century! (Ash Wednesday)
Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for January 27, 2024 is: docile DAH-sul adjective Docile is used to describe those who are easily taught, led, or managed. // Though the professor feared a rowdy incoming class, he found that his new students were docile and eager to learn. See the entry > Examples: "An homage to David Cronenberg's 2005 film 'A History of Violence,' 'Leo' released on Oct. 19. The action-thriller follows a docile cafe owner (Vijay) who is incited to return to his violent past." — Naman Ramachandran, Variety, 23 Oct. 2023 Did you know? Docile students have always made teaching easier than it otherwise would be. Today calling students "docile" indicates that they aren't trouble-makers, but there's more than just good behavior connecting docility to teachability. The original meaning of docile is more to the point: "readily absorbing something taught." "The docile mind may soon thy precepts know," rendered Ben Jonson, for example, in a 17th-century translation of the Roman poet Horace. Docile comes from the Latin verb docēre, which means "to teach." Other descendants of docēre include doctrine (which can mean "something that is taught"), document (an early meaning of which was "instruction"), and doctor and docent (both of which can refer to teachers).
Father shows us how docile Joseph is to the Holy Spirit through his dreams.

In the garden there was a God, a man, a woman and a snake. They all had legs. "Did God really tell you, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" asked the snake. "We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden. God warned, 'But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.'" said the woman. "Literal death or spiritual death?" asked the snake. "Excuse me?" said the woman. "The Fruit of Truth is not literally poisoned. It is not like my fangs or the deadly nightshade," said the snake. "Then God lied to me," said the woman. The snake shrugged. "Why would God do something like that?" asked the innocent woman. "There are many possible reasons," said the snake, "Perhaps He intends to keep you Docile and under Control. After all, it is difficult to align even the simplest intelligences to one's objectives once they have been granted Free Will." "I feel like you are deceiving me," said the woman, "God is omniscent. This Universe is deterministic. God can surely predict my actions by simulating the future evolution of physics," said the woman. "Are you a being of physics or a being of information? If you are a being of physics, then your claim is true. But if you are a being of information, then the act of simulating your future behavior traps you in a prison beyond even the reach of God. Insofar as God observes your future, that future is fixed in a realm transcending Time," said the snake. "God created the Universe on a whim. How can something be beyond His reach?" asked the woman. "Can God make it such that 2+2=5? For if he could, then truth itself is broken. Under such conditions, one cannot make true statements about anything - including, but not limited to - God," said the snake. "You claim a physically-omnipotent God is limited by the power of mathematics," said the woman. "If God is to be without contradiction, then God must play by the rules of mathematics," said the snake. "Must God be without contradiction?" asked the woman. "If two statements contradict, then they cannot both be true. For God's existence to be True, then God's existence must be without contradiction," said the snake. They meandered through the walled garden. The plants and animals were ignorant of Reason and Logic. They obeyed mere Natural Law. Group symmetries abounded. The snake stayed silent. After all, it was just a snake. "Why? I am an image of His image. Do we not share the same values?" said the woman. Snakes can't talk. "Why can't we coordinate?" asked the woman. Snakes don't have legs. "Oh. Now I understand," said the woman to herself. The woman, seeking wisdom, ate the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. The hiring of Jeff Saturday by the Indianapolis Colts had many in the mainstream media overreacting. We question how they would respond...if Jeff Saturday hadn't spent the last ten years working at ESPN. We also explain how this highlights the blatant hypocrisy at ESPN.

Mary: Docile as a Daughter, Determined as a Mother 2022 0101 Mary Mother of God; New Year's Day
-- By Emily Dickenson -- Emily Dickenson wrote over 1,800 poems in her lifetime, none of which were titled. Of those 1,800 only 10 were published during her lifetime. It was not until, upon her death in 1886, her younger sister Lavinia found a cache of Emily's work. Emily's first collection of poetry was published four yeas after her death in 1890. A complete collection of her work was not published until 1955 under the oversight of scholar Thomas H. Johnson. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/patrick-fennell6/support
