Acclaimed Quandamooka artist Delvene Cockatoo-Collins has brought a beautiful insight into an ancient story from her people to the Museum of Brisbane. The artist-in-residence from Minjerribah/Stradbroke Island continues to evolve her arts practice, and this time has reimagined the Museum of Brisbane's creative space into an interactive and immersive realm exploring the ancestral story of Warrajamba the Mermaid. In doing so she has created a hub of tranquility in the bustling CBD of Brisbane, bringing audiences to slow down and connect with Country and culture. She's inviting all of us to join her on her quest to find Warrajamba - a central figure in her art, as she continues the ongoing search to find the ending of the mermaid's story. And as Delvene explains to us on this episode of Streets of Your Town, this significant story of her people was passed down to her from her mother, grandmother, and generations before them. For more shownotes and links go to my Streets of Your Town magazine for this episode at https://soyt.substack.com/p/weaving-traditional-stories-delvene-cockatoo-collins

Dallas demonstrates affection and respect toward the birds through deliberate head-bowing behavior, effectively communicating non-threatening intent. This disruption threatens Australia with a potentially catastrophic, very warm summer, reviving fears of bushfires. The SSW is also accelerating the melting of Antarctic ice shelves. Regarding the upcoming Ashes series, England plans to use pure brute force against Australia's refined technique. While kangaroos spare daffodils, cockatoos are identified as villains for aggressively destroying spring tulips. On a positive note, Sophia the Rottweiler puppy survived a highly venomous red-bellied black snake bite due to swift medical attention. 1800 COCKATOO

Welcome to the Always Bayern Chelsea show. BAYERN MUNICH ARE FRANZ BECKENBAUER SUPER CUP CHAMPIONS. FOOTBALL IS BACK. We cover it all in this episode of the show. We kick things off with a beautiful rendition of “Feeling Good”. Then, we dive into Bayern Munich's incredible 2-1 victory over VFB Stuttgart to pick up their first trophy of the season. Tensions are rising between Bayern Munich and Stuttgart as Stuttgart remain firm on holding Nick Woltemade captive despite the player's desire to move to Bavaria and Bayern Munich offering over double his current market value to make the move happen. In this episode we break all of that down and we look at Vincent Kompany's tactics, lineup, match highlights, scoring/substitutions and even hand out player awards. Harry Kane opened up the scoring in this with a wonderful goal while Luis Diaz found the dagger late assisted by Serge Gnabry. Heck of a performance by Manuel Neuer and Dayot Upamecano as well. Next, we move over to Chelsea Football Club for their disappointing English Premier League home opener draw to Crystal Palace 0-0. We break down Enzo Maresca's lineup/tactics, match highlights, scoring/substitutions, and of course hand out match awards. While Chelsea's defenders held strong lead by Reece James and a clean sheet from Robert Sanchez, the attack lead by Cole Palmer was extremely lackluster. Chelsea hope to move past this one when they take on West Ham on Friday 8/22. Bayern Munich plays their first Bundesliga match on the same day against RB Leipzig. Stay tuned for full coverage of those matches and of course don't forget to listen for our special shoutout to HULL CITY in this one. I'm so excited to share my three-week ecotourism trip through Tasmania, Australia. This 50-minute podcast is the first of a multi-part podcast series I created from the audio that I took along my June 2025 trip (and you can pair that with the gorgeous photos I posted on https://www.facebook.com/InTunetoNature ) to get a feel for this extraordinary place, and its animals, like wombats, kangaroos, wallabies, seals, whales, sheep, cows, and birds like cockatoos, forest ravens, magpies, wrens, and kookaburras. Often I'm adding in my own audio commentary and context as an American traveler and animal and environmental advocate, but other times I'm just quietly recording the voices and sounds around me, particularly the other animals there. Across the full series exploring Tasmania (or lutruwita, as the Aborignal Palawa people have called their homeland for 40,000 years), the itinerary I'll take you on is first a quick visit to Melbourne on the front end of the trip (hello city Cockatoo), and then we spend a week traveling through Northern and Eastern Tasmania, starting at beautiful Dove Lake in Cradle Mountain National Park (where I see my first wombats), through the second largest city, Launceston, and the wine and agricultural region, over to the East Coast to the iconic wineglass bay in Freycinet National Park (this is Part 1). And then in future podcasts, I take the ferry to Maria Island (with so many wild animals, including kangaroos) and Port Arthur historic convict site, then South, over to the largest city, Hobart, for a week for my participation in the Conference on Communication and Environment at Univ of Tasmania, and a post-conference on Deep Ecology with esteemed activist John Seed (and we also get to meet two of their biggest environmental activists who started the Green Party in Australia, Christine Milne and Bob Brown). Then before flying out of Melbourne, on the mainland of Australia, I share my tour of the Great Ocean Road where I got to see my first wild koalas up in the eucalyptus trees, and a kookaburra, black and white magpies, and kangaroos at their gorgeous national parks. Note: all the animal audio and photos here are of wild/free-living animals (no one was captive in a zoo or sanctuary), which did limit the number of other animal species I interacted with (no Tasmanian Devils or platypuses this time), but I felt it was a more natural and respectful way to interact (it was the animal individual's choice to get near me or allow me nearer to them). And I had an amazing time, and was elated for every wild animal I saw (even wrens or swamp hens at outdoor bistro tables), plus I enjoyed the human Aussies I met as well. Love their accents! As part of my compensation for the resources used and greenhouse gas emitted from my international trip, I made some donations to the Tasmanian Land Conservancy and the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania and the Friends of Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. "In Tune to Nature" is a weekly radio show airing Wednesdays at 6pm Eastern Time on 89.3FM-Atlanta radio and streaming worldwide on wrfg.org (Radio Free Georgia, a nonprofit indie station) hosted by me, Carrie Freeman, or Melody Paris. Welcome back to the Proper True Yarn Podcast, where the yarns are big, the laughs are louder, and the true stories? Well, they're as wild as they come. This week, we're joined by the legend himself, Jeff Perot, who's got a stack of tales from the outback—and this one is full of snakes, scares, and a bloody hilarious cockatoo caper.First up, Jeff tells us the story of Fred Waterson and a run-in with a ten-foot black-headed python. Fred's fear of snakes is no match for Jeff's sense of humor, as he tricks Fred into getting up close and personal with the snake in an old mailbag. But things take a wild turn when Fred gets the shock of his life, sending the truck swerving through a tight corner and stripping both side mirrors off. Fred's terror and Jeff's storytelling? Unforgettable. Then, we move on to a yarn from Jeff's boxing days, where he was thrown into the ring with McGill the Gorilla—a fight that might have been rigged, but not in the way Jeff had planned. With help from his mate Doughy, a former light heavyweight champion, Jeff takes us through a series of wild moves and codes in the ring, teaching us all that boxing (and life) isn't always what it seems. And to top it all off, there's a story about Bob Cooper and his lost cockatoo. When the bird escapes, Jeff and his mate Peter find themselves with an unexpected guest... until Bob comes back from holiday and wants to reward them for their "rescue" efforts. But what Jeff didn't count on was the cockatoo's true fate. It's a yarn with a twist and some classic outback humor. It's another cracker of an episode from Jeff, filled with unexpected turns, laughs, and a whole lot of adventure. Authorities there were not happy to see Harri, whose species is the bane of farmers in her native Australia, and they threatened to euthanize her if she wasn't properly locked up. The ship's officers gave Harri her own luxury cabin, and she was reunited with her family two weeks later.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Want more BirdNote? These concepts are described in detail in her books Unstoppable: 6 Easy Steps To Find And Achieve Your FIRE and Sell Like A Cockatoo: How To Master The New Way Of Selling In A Rapidly Changing World. She's also a 2x TEDx Speaker, TV Host, sought after podcast guest and sales trainer who gets in the trenches with her clients to guarantee that they achieve their desired outcomes. When Gail started out in sales, she was selling training programs making only commission. Soon enough her first media opportunity arrived hosting a weekly TV show, which ultimately got her fired from the training company. With only 1 active coaching client, she started getting more work within the clients firm, eventually moving across regional offices all the way to holding lectures at their companies training university. College dropouts finding sales is a tale older than time. The reason why to this day companies still choose to hire them for sales positions is simple - when you don't have a fallback, you're much more likely to be self driven, which is a huge asset in sales. Both Gail and Kevin agree that in 2024 salespeople have gotten lazier, which could be attributed to the variety of tools, automations and AI workflows that have become easily accessible to everyone.
