Moster är griot som förde Gambias historia vidare i sin folkmusik.I timme två Sampa the Great, Little Simz, Hope Tala och Muva of Earth

Miriam Moster has a PhD sociology, she is a Mellon Humanities Public Fellow and a Wexner Graduate Fellow. Her research explores Jewish communities, education, and the experiences of individuals navigating the boundaries of insular religious worlds. "Navigating the boundaries" means moving from one sector of Judaism and observance to another sector and lifestyle; and she has published widely on these topics. Her work is distinguished by an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on sociology, narrative, and cultural studies to better understand how people view and construct their own personal identity and how they fit into a community. In a wide-ranging conversation, we talk about adults who leave the observant community, the acceptance and value of research in the Haredi community, divorces and their impact on changes in religiosity and religious self-identification, Shabbat for singles, the greater acceptance and "mainstreaming" of therapy, and the dangers and cautions relating to therapy.

Interview begins at 25:09.Naftuli Moster is the founder and CEO of Shtetl, a non-profit media outlet serving as a free press for the Haredi community.

Link to video version of this interview: https://youtu.be/IRTvj1_4_14In this interview, Naftuli Moster reflects on his years as the face of a controversial campaign to reform secular education in Hasidic boys' yeshivas. As the founder of YAFFED (Young Advocates for Fair Education), Moster positioned himself as a critic of the yeshiva system in which he was raised, arguing that Hasidic schools fail to meet basic educational standards required by state law.Over the years, he became a polarizing figure — praised by some for challenging religious insularity, and criticized by others as antagonistic to the community he came from. To many within the Hasidic world, he came to represent an external pressure campaign that misunderstood or misrepresented their values and way of life. In 2022, Moster resigned from YAFFED, and in this candid conversation, he speaks openly about why he chose to step away. Was it burnout, a shift in priorities, or something deeper about the limits of advocacy? We explore his personal journey, how he views his impact now, and what he's turned to since leaving the public spotlight.

For spørsmål, kommentarer eller innspill: post@kulturkrigen.no

If you really want something, do it, and then just keep doing it, and doing it until you get really good at it.Born in New York and raised in Chicago, David Llauger Meiselman grew up in a gypsy, artsy-fartsy environment that heavily influenced him, so after he turned 18, he went back to New York to "do theatre" out there. The Big Apple was just too much for him, so he tried LA, where he found the place to evolve his art and realized he wanted to direct, not act. His first project, a Blair Witch type of material "no one ever saw" called "LA River Stories," taught him dozens of valuable lessons, experience, and the conviction that he wouldn't stop until making it. He has produced and directed plays, poetry slams, television pilots, radio shows, documentaries, and animated series. He produced and directed "El Matadero," "1st Strike" and "Strike One" with Danny Trejo and Billy Gallo, and the TV series, "Paris Falls." His most recent work, "The Tunnel: Interview with a Moster," produced and directed by him, is a short based on his first project, "LA River Stories." David is also a founding member and present American Latino Theatre artistic director. Throughout this episode, David shares his thoughts on the importance of resilience and tenacity to succeed in Hollywood, whether as an actor, director, or producer. You'll learn about his particular way of chasing his dreams, his passion for writing and directing horror films, and his relentless attitude of constantly honing his craft. We also talk about our experiences working with the legend Danny Trejo, what David looks for in an actor during an audition, and much more. In Etrog: How A Chinese Fruit Became a Jewish Symbol (Palgrave Pivot, 2018), David Z. Moster tracks the etrog from its evolutionary home in Yunnan, China, to the lands of India, Iran, and finally Israel, where it became integral to the Jewish celebration of Sukkot. Matthew Miller is a graduate of Yeshivat Yesodei HaTorah. He studied Jewish Studies and Linguistics at McGill for his BA and completed an MA in Hebrew Linguistics at Queen Mary University of London. In Thai, the term phaya nak, which literally means “lord of Naga,” is derived from the word which means high nobility. Naga is regarded as the patron of water in Thai culture and are believed to inhabit caves or water bodies. According to a legend, the Mekong River in Laos and Thailand was created by two Naga kings as they slithered through the region. This river and its nearby Nan River are also known to produce mysterious fireballs. For many years now, it has been believed that the nagas in the region create these unusual fireballs. This phenomenon usually occurs every year along the Mekong River, which is near the border between the two countries. Usually, people gather at night along the river to catch a glimpse of the mysterious fireballs. The mythical serpent-like creatures known as the phaya nak are believed to inhabit the Mekong River and its surroundings. Some have suggested that these sightings are caused by the elongated fish with red crests, or an unusual type of marine creature known as an oarfish.Read more at https://mythlok.com/phaya-nak/
In the wake of https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/11/nyregion/hasidic-yeshivas-schools-new-york.html (the recent extensive New York Times investigation) into Hasidic yeshivas, a fierce and often acrimonious debate has emerged about the ethics of covering the Hasidic world from the outside, how private institutions that receive government funds are accountable to the broader public, and religious minority communities' right to insist on their way of life, even when it brings them into conflict with the state. On this episode, Jewish Currents Contributing Editor Joshua Leifer hosts a conversation between Naftuli Moster, executive director of Young Advocates for Fair Education (https://yaffed.org/who-we-are/ (YAFFED)), and Frieda Vizel, a writer and https://friedavizel.com/ (tour guide) of Hasidic Brooklyn. Moster and Vizel—who both grew up in, and later left, Hasidic communities—draw on their own educational experiences to offer very different perspectives on the Times article and reactions to it, on the best way to advocate for change in the Hasidic world, and on what's at stake in the fight over secular education. As the New York state department of education proposes regulations for instruction in nonpublic schools, Errol discussed the debate over standards with Naftuli Moster, who has advocated for changes for many years. The executive director of the group Young Advocates for Fair Education was raised in Borough Park, Brooklyn, and shared his experience attending Yeshivas, which are traditional Jewish schools. He also explained what the state is proposing and the different ways schools will be able to prove what education officials call “substantial equivalency” in classroom instruction.
