We talk a lot about “a fighters story”- the mindset that brings them to the big game, the conditioning, the ambition, and we talk a lot about what a fighter (or coach) sacrifices to see that dream through. What is commonly missed, however, is the impact it has on families. What's it like to see a loved one go through training? handle a victory? Or yet, suffer defeat? How do loved ones feel when seeing that family member inside the octagon? What are their (families) contributions to the process? How does the embrace of that “struggle” shape the person that returns to his/her day by day, after a fight? What does the legacy of a pro fighter look like? How does it shape the family as a result? In this episode I speak with Julie Donovan, wife of Elevation Fight Team Coach & owner of High Altitude Martial Arts- and Jess Pauga, wife of recent UFC signee Zac Pauga. We get insight into what their lives are like being a part of this MMA culture and the things that shape what a fighter is really like in the real world.www.highaltitudema.comwww.caughtonthemike.com

Our fight expert, Zane Simon is back, joined by Mookie Alexander to breakdown the UFC COLUMBUS: ‘Blaydes vs. Daukaus' Fight Night event. The guys have hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. The UFC put their elite HWs on display again this week in the Main Event of UFC COLUMBUS. The match-up was a collision between Chicago native, #4 ranked, Curtis ‘Razor' Blaydes against the Philly native, #11 ranked, Chris Daukaus. Blaydes, the Elevation Fight Team brawler, came at this bout with an impressive 15-3 record, coming off top 10 divisional victory against Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 266 last fall. Daukaus, ‘The Cop', was coming off a loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC Vegas 46 back in December, despite being on the brink of title contention, with a solid record of 12-4. In the co-main event clash, we had a Top 10 Women's Flyweight scrap between the Scottish Muay Thai expert, Joanne ‘JoJo' Wood (formerly Calderwood) who squared off against the Latina dynamo, Alexa Grasso. JoJo was coming off a two-fight losing streak, having lost three of her last four, now ranked #7, holding a 15-7 record; while Grasso, the climbing phenom, walked into the octagon on a two-fight win streak tonight, ranked #9 with a 13-3 record, sporting some wicked boxing skills. Today Stephen talks to Eliot Marshall. Eliot is a retired mixed martial artist. He was a cast member on SpikeTV's “The Ultimate Fighter” – Season 8. Eliot went on to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, after which ultimately, he was released from the UFC. He returned again briefly but ultimately retired from MMA. Competition. But after all these ups and downs with his MMA career, Marshall decided to hang up his gloves and open Easton Training Center in Denver along with his coach Amal Easton. In addition to being the co-owner and head instructor at Easton Training Center, Eliot became the head coach of Elevation Fight Team, one of the country's most highly regarded MMA teams. Despite his success as a business owner and coach, in the summer of 2015, Eliot suffered through a bout of severe anxiety, insomnia, and depression, which he hadn't experienced since his adolescence. Relying on support from his friends and family in conjunction with ongoing therapy, Eliot has been able to overcome his anxiety and now seeks to help others who may be suffering from a similar affliction. Eliot returned to the BJJ competition scene in 2016 and began tallying wins against some of the best jiu-jitsu competitors in the world while donating his entire purse to help Easton students, who might be struggling with anxiety or depression, receive the care and therapy they otherwise couldn't afford. In his book The Gospel of Fire, Eliot shares his story of breaking down and learning to build himself back up by acknowledging his shortcomings, accepting his challenges, freeing himself from fear, and maximizing his opportunities. Sharing the experiences and tools that helped him battle back from the edge of despair, Eliot shows you how to discover your own “why” and refocus your days on “how” to achieve it. Results from the weekend's fight action including LFA 88, Bellator 244, and UFC Fight Night Vegas, as well as new fight announcements. Welcome to your Colorado MMA News, Weekend WrapUp. LFA 88 took place on Friday night with a couple of Colorado fighters throwing down on the card. Unfortunately, Pariah MMA's Edwin Chavez had his fight scratched last minute due to his opponent dropping out. But his teammate, Chaz Alex still had the opportunity to make his pro debut on the prelims portion of the card. Alex came out with a successful professional debut, winning impressively with a 2nd round rear naked choke submission. Congratulations to the now 1-0 pro, Chaz Alex. Also on the card, Colorado's Ben Lugo of Top Notch MMA lost a hard fought majority decision to Natan Levy in a close fight that could have gone either way. Lugo's record moves to 5-4 as a pro with the loss. Watch for Lugo to bounce back stronger his next time out. Bellator 244 also went down on Friday night and Andrew Kapel of Elevation Fight Team competed against one of the top middleweights in the promotion, John Salter. Salter showed off a suffocating grappling game and was able to find an arm triangle submission in the third round to hand Kapel his 7th loss of his pro career, but first within the Bellator promotion. A slight road block for Kapel who will undoubtedly be back to climbing his way up the Bellator contendership ladder soon. Additionally on Friday night, Marty Paredes of Elevation Fight Team won the Fierce Fighting Championship's amateur heavyweight title with a second round TKO win. With the impressive victory, Paredes improves to 4-1 as an amatuer in mma. Congratulations to the new Fierce Fighting Championship heavyweight Champ! Then on Saturday, UFC Fight Night took place in Las Vegas and Elevation Fight Team sent two of their own to compete on the world stage. After a late bump to the main card for Austin Hubbard, both he and his teammate Shana Dobson had the opportunity to be featured in main card fights. Dobson seized the opportunity and cashed as the biggest underdog of the night, winning by second round TKO to end her three fight losing streak and pick up the 4th win of her pro career. Dobson looked slick both on the ground and the feet for as long as the fight lasted and was able to pick up the 2nd TKO win of her career. Congratulations to Shana “Danger” Dobson. Austin “Thud” Hubbard had a bit of a tougher night, losing by first round rear naked choke submission to Joe Solecki. Solecki looked like the real deal with the win over a proven elite athlete and champion in Austin Hubbard, and Hubbard fell to 12-5 with the loss. Keep an ear out for what's next from Austin Hubbard. And in other local MMA News, Factory X has added even more professional fighters to their team as Vince “The Anomaly” Cachero (7-3) and Aryion “The Kid” Young (1-0) have joined the squad. And Young will have his first fight with Factory X at his back on September 11th for Oklahoma's Rage in the Cage promotion. Watch out for these two rising professionals. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

We began this podcast with an introduction to breakdown the fight card from the Las Vegas Apex headlined by Curtis "Razor" Blaydes vs Alex "Drago" Volkov. Blaydes won a unanimous decision and set a heavyweight record by taking Volkov down 15 times. Scott started by saying that it was a great performance by Blaydes and his wrestling was outstanding and his striking looked really good as well. He said it was a bit surprising how good his striking looked going up against such a big striker like Volkov. His only negative that he saw was how the Razor's cardio did not look good. To us that was the most surprising part as he trains at altitude in Colorado with the Elevation Fight Team. Dana White made some comments that Blaydes better stay busy as he will not move further in his career against tougher competition with cardio like he displayed in this fight. Holburn pointed out that he will not out wrestle the champ Stipe Miocic or his next challenger Daniel "DC" Cormier. On August 15th those two will have a much anticipated trilogy fight to finally prove who is the best Heavyweight of all time! Francis Ngannou has been told he gets the next title shot but there have been a lot of talk that this will be DC's last fight and that Stipe might retire as well after this fight. Blaydes has lost twice to Ngannou both to TKO's so the UFC is reluctant to schedule a third fight between two fighters. The heavyweight division is taking shape with these four guys at the top. Scott also talked about the exciting upcoming fight as Alex Gustafsson is moving up to heavyweight to face former champ Fabricio Werdum on July 25th on Fight Island. There have also been a lot of rumors that light heavyweight champ Jon Jones is also considering a move up to the heavyweight division. Nice quote here "You put those two guys(Gustafsson and Jones) in the conversation things can change real quick!". We had a great discussion about the Co-main event which had Josh Emmett winning a decision over Shane Burgos. This was an excellent fight that was highly entertaining. Emmett blew out his knee by full tear of his ACL in the first few seconds of the fight and it limited his ability. Emmett gritted out a great win but both fighters both impressed and should be starting to be in the mix to get big fights and eventually one of a handful to be considered for a title shot. The Champ of this featherweight division is Alexander Volkanovski who is scheduled for a rematch with Max Holloway July 11th. We had to address the controversial first fight of the card between Austin Hubbard vs Max Rohskopf. The two fighters had a very even first round and then Hubbard really displayed some dominance in the second round. When Max Rohskopf went to his corner after the second round he started to say to his coach and cornerman Robert Drysdale to call it. He wanted Drysdale to end the fight and his coach kept trying to encourage him to continue. He implored his corner to "call it" over and over and said he didn't have it. Finally when the minute rest period between round ended the athletic commission asked him if he wanted to continue and he said no. Since this encounter was filmed and the audio heard on the telecast there has been a lot of controversy. There was a lot of criticism leveled against Drysdale for not stopping the fight and Rohskopf for quitting. We at Complete Sports Media have had quite a few interactions with Robert Drysdale who has won multiple World Championships in Jiu Jitsu. He has been called the most accomplished American Grappler of his generation. Drysdale has coached numerous world champion UFC fighters like Randy Couture, Forrest Griffin, Joana Jedrzejczyk, Frank Mir, Vitor Belfort, Wanderlei Silva, Dan Hardy to name just a handful. We think Drysdale should be given the benefit of the doubt! Check it out it is a great podcast!
