Lifting heavier, training to exhaustion, and pushing through pain are often labeled as discipline, yet they are some of the fastest ways to stall progress and get injured. The real problem is misunderstanding how intensity and reps actually drive results over time. In this Fitness Friday episode we get into why pushing past your limits is not discipline, what rep ranges actually drive results, and how fitness is increasingly shaping behavior, consistency, and social connection. Liron Kayvan founded BFLA in 2019. He's a NASM Certified Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, and Transformative Life Coach. Liron has competed in Amateur MMA, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Rugby and has been a Fitness Coach for over 10 years. What's Discussed (00:52) Why mastering bodyweight movements should come before lifting (02:56) How machines allow higher intensity and safety without perfect form (04:36) Why workout intensity matters more than how heavy you lift (06:02) The rep ranges that actually support strength and muscle growth (13:40) How group fitness creates consistency through structure and accountability (15:00) Why fitness spaces are replacing bars as social connection hubs (17:56) How padel and running clubs blend movement, community, and lifestyle (22:07) Why pickleball and other “low-impact” sports carry unexpected injury risk Thank you to our sponsors: Rho Nutrition: Try Rho Nutrition today and experience the difference of Liposomal Technology. Every January starts with big fitness intentions, and it usually ends the same way, routines quietly fall apart once motivation wears off. The real issue is well known: building habits around feelings and calendar dates instead of non-negotiable standards. In this Fitness Friday episode, we break down the New Year fitness cycle with Liron Kayvan and talk about how to approach it in a way that actually sticks. We get into why walking is the most underrated habit in fitness, how non-negotiables put discipline on autopilot, and what truly separates people who stay consistent from those who fall off every January. Join me and my friend Liron, a fitness coach from Los Angeles, as we discuss the complex relationship between fitness trends, body image, and attracting potential partners. We share personal stories and insights into how men and women design their workout routines in hopes of gaining attention from the opposite sex. We reveal how looks and health intersect in the social environment of the gym.  We also talk about the concept of "parallel play" at the gym, which is a unique way for people to work out individually while still experiencing a sense of community. This shows the multi-faceted nature of modern workout culture. We also explore cultural beauty standards and how they influence relationships. We look at how subjective attraction can lead people to pursue a "trophy" partner, and the potential judgments that can arise from relationships with large age gaps. We discuss dating preferences, examining how much weight men and women place on physical attributes versus qualities like security and confidence, which could be the ultimate universal attraction. Don't miss this episode as we give our thoughts on how dating apps have revolutionized the search for companionship, but may also complicate the path to lasting connections. Women, have you ever wondered if you should be training differently than men? Tune into today's episode!  In this episode, Liron and I dive into the often debated question of whether women should train differently than men. Our discussion explores the psychological and physiological aspects of exercise preferences and the importance of a well-rounded fitness routine. We address the tendency for women to gravitate towards cardiovascular exercises, often due to concerns about building too much muscle or appearing "bulky." However, we emphasize that women are meant to lift weights just as much as men and that doing so offers numerous benefits, especially as we age, including improved bone density, muscle mass, and metabolism. Throughout the discussion, we stress the importance of symmetrical training for both men and women, highlighting the aesthetic and functional benefits of working the upper body. While we acknowledge that the best exercise is the one you'll actually do, we encourage listeners to embrace shorter, more intense workouts for optimal results. What we discuss:  Should women train differently than men?  Psychologically women gravitate toward cardiovascular exercises.  Why symmetrical training is important.  The best exercise is the one you'll do.  Shorter, more intense workouts are better.  Thank you to our sponsor: Therasage: Head over to therasage.com and use code Be Bold for 15% off To learn more about Liron Kayvan:  Website: https://www.beyondfitnessla.com/  Instagram: @beyondfitnessla Find more from Jen: Website: https://www.jennifercohen.com/ Instagram: @therealjencohen Books: https://www.jennifercohen.com/books Speaking: https://www.jennifercohen.com/speaking-engagements Learn more about your ad choices. At age 17 Stu headed for boot camp, then infantry and straight for the Basic Recon Course. He spent the rest of his active enlistment with 1st Recon Bn and deployed to Afghanistan as a Recon Marine. Stu completed a BA at Columbia in Neuroscience and Behavior followed by a M.S. in Criminology at University of Penn. As a source of income during college, he selected security related work for billionaires and after his Ivy League studies he settled in Hollywood and continued with employment in high level security. However, Stu found he needed more of a challenge and returned to the Corps. He joined the Reserves and is still an active reservist with 3rd Force Recon Co. To continue his journey of challenges alongside the Marine Recon, he is pursuing a profession as a pro MMA fighter as well as a desire to begin his PhD program in either philosophy or psychology within a couple years. Catch his next MMA fight on September 10To get tickets and other information: https://mmafutures.live/We thank Stu for his appearance! Here are a few articles Stu has written. Arsenba Ozukum opened the card against Bishwamitra of Manipur in a Flyweight contest and secured a dominant decision victory. Arsenba was dictating the fight with his low kicks and gave no room for Bishwamitra to make a comeback in the fight. This was the second-straight loss for Bishwamitra in MFN when it was a memorable promotional debut for Arsenba. Imkongsunep Jamir made a statement in his fight against Kapil Kumar as he secured a second-round finish. Imkong was scheduled to fight Sahil Rana initially but an injury to Sahil brought Kapil into the picture on short notice. Imkong dominated the fight throughout the two rounds with his ground game and took home a comfortable win. Avizo Lanamai made it 3-0 for Nagaland on the MFN 9 undercard with a brilliant performance against Abhishek Negi. Avizo was in the driving seat throughout the three rounds and took home the decision win in the end. #MatrixFightNight #TCANagaland #IndianMMA
