Welcome to Mysteries to Die For.I am TG Wolff and am here with Jack, my piano player and producer. This is a podcast where we combine storytelling with original music to put you in the heart of a mystery. All stories are structured to challenge you to beat the detective to the solution. These are arrangements, which means instead of word-for-word readings, you get a performance meant to be heard. Jack and I perform these live, front to back, no breaks, no fakes, no retakes. This is Season 7, Games People Play. Games are about competition conducted according to rules with participants working toward a goal. Games are a part of every culture and are one of the oldest forms of social interaction and engagement. Games can be fun, challenging and exhilarating. They can also be intense, cutthroat, and lethal. This season, our authors have fashioned deadly games and unscrupulous villains to test your detection skills. This is Episode 21, Sorry is the featured game. This is Death by Candy Land by Kyra JacobsDELIBERATIONCandy Land is in chaos and Sheriff Cantalone has to figure out who gummed up this Halloween party by killing Harry Randall. Here are the players in the order we met them:• Mic Garcia, host and Lord Licorice who was being blackmailed by Harry• Savannah Livingston, the Lollipop Fairy who Harry flashed earlier that day• Tyler Livingston, the Peppermint Forest lumberjack who owned the hardware story Harry vandalized• Cindy Flannigan, Mrs. Nutt whose garden Harry trampled nightly• Sam Flannigan, dressed as a giant peanut whose fence Harry destroyed• The three Flannigan children, M&Ms who were mad Harry ruined the bounce house• Doc Hallers, King Kandy who Harry blamed for his mother's death• Herb Smathers, Gloppy the Chocolate Blob who Harry repeatedly belittledHere's what we know:• Harry was the neighborhood bully. Everyone except Mic had lodged complaints with the sheriff and complained that nothing was done.• Mic welcomed his guests into the back yard but said he did not see Harry until he was dead.• Tyler Livingston had met Harry at the decorated fence and told him to come in through the house. Savannah Livingston saw Harry in the kitchen, staring out the window. Doc Haller saw Harry take a pill and wash it down with liquor.• Harry spilled Herb's heart pills across the floor. Herb couldn't be sure they all were found.• The Livingston children said Harry banged on the outside of the bounce house, then crawled inside and refused to move.• Harry had cuts and scratches on his arms and his lips were tinted blue. ME speculated the blue may have come from an overdose. No explanation was given on the cuts and scratches.• Cindy Flannigan's rake had red orange stains she said was from mulch. No damage or marks were noted on the other props.• No one had any knowledge of illegal drugs. Mic said Harry kept to liquor and cigarettes. It's your move, where should Sheriff Cantalone go?ABOUT Candy LandPolio was an ancient disease that hit pandemic status in the 1940s and 1950s, crippling children and young adults until a vaccine was widely administered in 1955. Children recovering were bed bound and board. Teacher Eleanor Abbott, herself a victim of the disease, invented games to entertain recovering children, including Candy Land. Encouraged by friends, Abbott submitted her idea to Milton Bradley, who picked it up to fill-in their product line. It soon became their best selling game. In 2005, Candy Land was inducted into The Strong National Museum of Play. Candy Land has continued to grow and develop, offering game variations including special character editions and electronic editions so you can get your candy on no matter where you are.

We go behind the scenes of the Jasper wildfire: how did it start, why did it grow so quickly, and how did crews manage to save 60% of the town, including most of the Jasper Park Lodge? Plus, we fact check the role the mountain pine beetle played in the blaze, and learn what communities across the country need to do to prevent future disasters. 3:20 | His childhood home is gone. The church he was baptized in...gone. 00:00 - IntroductionWe start out today with some small talk–or maybe short talk–about online meetings. We share our complicated experiences with meeting people in person after establishing relationships online or over the phone. We also share some speculations about how avatars may affect this in the future. Then, of course, we express our affection for Bluey because… well, because he's Bluey. Then things briefly take a dark turn as Tyler shares some of his own dog blues.06:22 - Welcome, Ken Ken is Director of AEC Alliances and Solutions at Dell. In this role, he leads strategy related to the construction industry, geospatial industry, and some parts of the manufacturing industry. Ken's background is more in software than in hardware. He brings the voice of the industry into the engineering groups to help them understand how Dell's towers, laptops, and rugged hardware are used by people in industry. Ken shares about his work with drafting–from 2D AutoCAD to floor designs. He walks us through the path he followed into Revit design work and training and eventually consultant work. He worked as a BIM solution owner for Kone, a Finnish elevator company.Eddie asks about Kone elevators, and Ken geeks out in a way that reveals his detailer/designer roots. 13:28 - Tyler Goofs Up Tyler raises the painful story about one of his recent interactions with Ken. It had to do with a rugged laptop that Ken graciously shared for a video shoot. Tyler decided to get kind of Tyler-ish with it and… Let's just say Tyler pushed it too far. The laptop handled an amazing array of challenges. Then Tyler saw the 40,000-pound boom lift. Tyler talks through the numerous other tests he conducted with the rugged laptop. Ken glosses over his request for a replacement laptop.18:51 - A Broad Update We ask Ken to bring us up-to-date on what's going on in computer technology within the construction industry. He talks about the numerous demands on computers operating in the current landscape. He touches on the annual updates to internal hardware components. With a growing number of demanding software packages, these updates make noticeable differences. We spend some time talking about AI integration and its effects on computer performance. This leads to a discussion about the NPU (neural processing unit) on Intel's 14th-gen processors. Ken explains how this low-latency unit can help to conduct behind-the-scenes performance enhancements.Tyler asks about reality capture and the use of AI with registration, stitching, and object classification. We get into some point-cloud talk and photogrammetry. Ken addresses the interplay among ISVs (independent software vendors) and computer companies. He also fesses up to using advanced features to make his house look clean during online meetings.25:50 - Helping the Lost Eddie raises the concern that many people feel overwhelmed or lost when choosing hardware that can meet the demands of their software. He also asks about battery life. Ken shares some scenarios related to battery consumption as well as the heat mitigation that affects computer performance. We discuss the need for computer down-time–proactive or reactive–that was needed while using early versions of Revit and other demanding software. Ken shares some early-career stories about workloads growing because his boss saw the cool things that he could do in design software. 32:42 - Processor Talk: Core vs. XeonTyler asks Ken to explain the difference between Core processors and Xeon processors. Ken explains that a Xeon processor is like a bus or a train that can get you and all of your friends to your destination reliably and quickly. A Core processor is like a Corvette, that can get just you and one friend to your destination, but will get you there really quickly. Ken also explains single-threading and multi-threading and how those things affect daily tasks.Eddie asks for some specific advice on devices. Ken explains the Precision 3680 is the bulldog of the industry as far as tower workstations, and he suggests that you load up on as much RAM as possible. He also discusses the benefits of graphics cards, including some specific NVIDIA GPUs. As far as mobile units–especially for reality-capture specialists–he recommends the 7780 Precision laptop. We discuss additional component specifics 41:58: Where Are We? Eddie asks if the industry is as far along as we think we are in computing. Ken discusses costs and processing power. Ken shares about the challenges of having an entire team that is properly trained and properly equipped to leverage the features that are out there. We also discuss how to cope with lacking IT support.49:14: Megaphone MessageKen wants the industry to know that you can't just throw more software at new challenges without investing some time in knowing what hardware is required to make that software operate at its full potential. The dawn of the Tudor regime is one of most recognisable periods of English history. Yet the focus on its monarchs' private lives and ministers' constitutional reforms creates the impression that this age's major developments were isolated to halls of power, far removed from the wider populace. Royal Justice and the Making of the Tudor Commonwealth, 1485–1547 (Cambridge University Press, 2023) by Dr. Laura Flannigan presents a more holistic vision of politics and society in late mediaeval and early modern England. Delving into the rich but little-studied archive of the royal Court of Requests, it reconstructs collaborations between sovereigns and subjects on the formulation of an important governmental ideal: justice. Examining the institutional and social dimensions of this point of contact, this study places ordinary people, their knowledge and demands at the heart of a judicial revolution unfolding within the governments of Henry VII and Henry VIII. Yet it also demonstrates that directing extraordinary royal justice into ordinary procedures created as many problems as it solved. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose forthcoming book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. John Flannigan is a hotel industry veteran with over 30 years of hospitality experience. In June of 2016, John founded Wylder Hotels to seek out drive market leisure properties that had a nostalgic history. He thought there was white space within the adventure travel sector in tertiary areas of the country that could compete with urban assets, yet at a much lower basis and cost to develop. Shane Flannigan lived a life he loved in law enforcement. An incident he experienced while on the job led to Shane's diagnosis of PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Many healers came into Shane's life thereafter – doctors, therapists, a life coach, and other spiritual teachers. When Shane surrendered to the lessons he learned, he was alleviated from his PTSD. He knows what it is like to feel scared, lost, and stressed. He is a student of life and as the Founder of North Pole Life Coach and Author of “Shades of Broken,” Shane is now helping others to achieve clarity, balance, and success. The voyage he has been on will provoke reflection and encourage a deeper sense of surrender. Shane serves as Santa Clause every year and his brand is Christmas themed. Although a referee could go into further questioning to confirm the assumption. Stuart does incur the one stroke penalty for the stroke-and-distance. Stuart and Blakey got the gang back together and are joined by the very special guest, from The My Love of Golf Podcast - Rossco 'BMW' Flannigan to take a trip down memory lane.We cover all things GolfRules Questions podcast, how it got started, how cheap Blakey is, and how the Rules and the Rules knowedge of Stuart and Blakey have developed during that time. GRQOTW 100 Ross pushes his tee shot right into the rough. He playshis 2nd shot across the fairway into the left rough. He plays his 3rdshot to just short of the green. Upon reaching that ball short of thegreen, he realises it is not his ball and he has played a wrong ball.He returns to where he made his 3rd shot from to search and cannotfind his ball, although he does find another in the area, which he nowbelieves was the ball he hit for his 2nd shot. He returns to the right rough, where he made his 2nd shot from, to proceed under S&D for a lost ball. He drops correctly in the right rough using his bestestimate, when he finds his original ball which he hit from the teeingarea. Where must Ross make his next stroke from and what stroke will it be? .
