Bible Reading: Galatians 5:22-25"Mom, can we have fruit salad for lunch?" asked Brynlee."Good idea," said Mom. "You can help me make it. We have lots of different kinds of fruit we can use today." As they began putting the fruit together, Mom had an idea. "Maybe we can put nine different kinds of fruit in our salad and pretend we're putting in the fruit of the Spirit," she said. "We learned about them in church last week, remember?""Yeah," said Brynlee. "I'll name them as we put them in." She put orange pieces into a big bowl. "I'll call these love," she said. Then she opened a can and added pineapple chunks. "These will be joy. What else do we have?""I have some fresh peach wedges ready," said Mom. "And here's a cantaloupe we can cut up."Brynlee put in the peaches, calling them peace. She decided on patience for the cantaloupe. "The apples will be kindness, and the pears will be goodness," she said. "I'll slice some bananas and call them faithfulness.""Okay, and you can add some of these grapes," said Mom. Brynlee called the grapes gentleness."We still need a fruit for self-control," said Brynlee. "But we don't have anything else, do we?"Mom shook her head. "No, I don't think so," she said. "Unless…" She opened a cupboard door. "How about some dried cranberries?" "All right!" said Brynlee. "Now we have something for each fruit of the Spirit.""Good," said Mom. "You did a great job remembering them. You got them all!"At lunchtime, everyone enjoyed the salad. "Good to the last bite," said Dad, popping the last piece of pineapple into his mouth."And now our fruit of the Spirit is all gone," said Brynlee."I hope not!" said Mom. "Spiritual fruit will always be a part of our lives as Christians. As we rely on the Holy Spirit to fill us with love and become more like Jesus, others will be able to see the fruit of God's love in us."Dad nodded. "I pray that the fruit God produces in our lives will show people we belong to Him." –Linda WeddleHow About You?Can others see the fruit of the Spirit in your life? People aren't able to see when you've had apples or peaches or other kinds of fruit for lunch, but the fruit of the Spirit should be visible in the life of every Christian. Are you letting others see the fruit of the love God has planted in your heart? Trust Him to help you let your words and actions show others you know Jesus.Today's Key Verse:The fruit that the Spirit produces in a person's life is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (ERV) (Galatians 5:22-23 )Today's Key Thought:Display the fruit of the Spirit

It's that time of the year when the stonefruit season collides with the last of the blueberries so I thought I'd marry them up in this gorgeous cake!    Ingredients:  3 medium eggs  A generous half cup of caster sugar  1/3 cup oil – I used canola!  Pinch salt  1 cup fruit – chopped quite small , I used peaches and nectarines  1/3 cup blueberries  1 1/3 cup self raising flour  1/3 cup yoghurt (can use milk see note)    Method:  Preheat oven to 180 C and line a 20-23cm round cake tin. Note the image depicts a VERY large version of this cake that I make to feed 25 hungry students!  Whisk eggs well in a large bowl then pour in the sugar, salt and oil and whisk some more until well-combined. Add the chopped fruit and blueberries and mix well.  Add in flour and yoghurt and stir until mixed and there are no pockets of flour remaining.  Scrape into prepared tin and bake for 35-40 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean.  Once cooled, either dust with icing sugar or make a vanilla icing and ice it.    Make it your own:  Use olive oil for a posher version  Used tinned fruit salad and frozen blueberries in the off season  Sour milk with a squeeze of lemon juice if you don't have yoghurt    LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

“Platforms harmonize and standardize without restricting. By standardizing, they actually enable and allow people to do more things." Gregor Hohpe is back again for the second episode with his latest book “Platform Strategy”. In this episode, Gregor discussed in-depth about building platforms with a proper platform strategy. He began by describing what a platform is from a few different perspectives, the benefits it brings, and what strategy we should think about when building a platform. Gregor also emphasized the opposite difference between platforms and IT services, with the key difference of how a platform thrives with more scale. We then had a few fun discussions discussing building a platform on top of a cloud platform, the key skillset we need to build a good platform, and how we should build a proper platform abstraction. Towards the end, Gregor also covered the recent trend of building developer platforms and business capability platforms. Movies discussed: Unwelcome, Children of the Corn (2023), There's Something Wrong With the Children, The Changing Room (short) After the last monster-size episode, we're happy to dig deeper into three movies this week, each featuring antagonists under 5 feet tall. Our mileage varies on Children of the Corn and Something's Wrong with the Children, but the Gremlins-meets-Jim-Henson's-Storyteller style of Unwelcome charms us all. This is my fifth pride out as a queer person, and I would be lying if I said that I haven't felt at a loss on how to being to find queer community. Part of queer-ness isn't just going from thinking you're straight to knowing you're queer and then voila, you've got the queer life of your dreams. It's a whirlwind of unpacking comp het, going through queer puberty (I used to scoff at the idea of this but it's a thing), and finding where you feel the most at home and yourself in your queerness. Not to mention getting your brain unf*cked from the patriarchy. These are conversations I have in my own circles, often, and I'm so grateful to have someone like Rainn in my own life to learn from and converse with. And I'm even more stoked that they agreed to come on the pod for us to have one of these conversations with all of you.If you aren't familiar with Rainn (She/They), she is a Black lesbian artist and writer living in Chicago. She's the Host and Co-Organizer of Fruit Salad, a monthly queer open mic. Her writing has appeared in several online publications, and her second poetry chapbook, “In our hands, citrus” will be released later this year. Her artwork has appeared at Co-Prosperity Sphere, The Whistler, The Robin in the Martin, and The Franklin.Things we talk about in todays episode:how the fuck to make queer friendstheir queer timeline and how she's navigated all things non monogamy, internalized homophobia and de-escalations in their relationships why lesbianism means so much to her how to know where you belong local artist & queer community, and the way she's personally contributing to it with Fruit Saladall things chosen family, sapphic love, power dynamics in relationships and beyond

When Tim Bateman played professional rugby, he was well aware of the toll anxiety could take on his performance. It's something he's hoping to help children with, through his new "Fruit Salad" series of books he's penned with cartoonist Jeff Bell. The first two are out now: The Lonely Lemon and The Sad Banana. Tim played for the Crusaders, Hurricanes, Maori All Blacks and the Coca-Cola Red Sparks in Japan. He retired last year to spend more time with his family and support his wife Laura through her battle with MS. That experience has seen him move into the well-being space - he and Laura operate two wellness centres in Christchurch: Cloud9 Float Club and O-Studio. Tim joins Kathryn to talk about how there's so many books to help adults with how their mental health, but not many for children.

First off, we chat with our AR Social Club AMA winner from back in September, Nadia Salim, who's getting married next year and wants to pick Ronna's (& Bryan's) brains about the wedding (we're coming to you from the time machine, hence the references to Halloween). Then we're beyond thrilled to welcome legendary comedian, writer, and activist Lizz Winstead to The Carriage House! Of course you know her as co-creator of a little program called THE DAILY SHOW, but you can also catch her podcast FEMINIST BUZZKILLS LIVE! wherever you get your podcasts. And if you find yourself in the Twin Cities this New Year's Eve, go see her show BAD MEN AND SOME CRAPPY WOMEN at the Parkway Theater. Lizz helps us give advice on being married to someone with very different politics and a very unique living situation with an ex-spouse. Wasn't Nadia a delight? She's clearly in the know since she's a member in good standing of the AR Social Club. And how about that endorsement from the LVMH exec, excuse me?
