In episode 106 of Outside The Studio with Tessa: "Solutions don't always come from insistence, they often come from pause" - Tamara Castelo We all crave happiness, but do we know what would actually bring us that? Are we aware of how to feel daily pleasure? Tamara Castelo chats with Tessa Tovar on how the basics of our health is imperative to resolving issues in our bodies and how small, intentional rituals lead to major changes. Tamara Castelo is a renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine Specialist, CEO of the Tamara Castelo Clinic, and author of the highly acclaimed book The Power of Rituals: Small Habits, Big Changes for Your Well-Being and Health. What does your poop look like? How much sleep are you getting? What does your diet consist of? These are questions Tamara asks, regardless of the list of other symptoms her patients may be experiencing. Your whole body is connected and what may seem like a small, unrelated symptom to the problem, may be the key point to fixing the issue. Many doctors are notorious for putting our symptoms in a box, where one part of the body can't affect another part. This isn't true. Share with your doctor every detail along with the basics of how your body functions.2. Feel what you want to feel. Perhaps it's freedom, or contentment or simply happiness. Practice feeling that everyday and recognizing what makes you happy when you're happy and how it came about. It's imperative for us to feel pleasure as it releases healthy hormones that keep us balanced.3. Small habits and rituals are a first step towards feeling how we want to feel. Repeated mantras and affirmations with intentional breathing can bring our mind to believe and embody those messages; Tamara finds that saying her mantra seventeen times is the perfect number for her ritual, but will vary person to person. Neste P24 ouvimos a directora-adjunta do PÚBLICO Andreia Sanches.

Stress management and reduction are big topics these days, whether it is in the office, at home, or just for overall health and wellbeing. But most ways of reducing stress are additive to what is likely an already jam-packed schedule; in other words, many of the recommendations are along the lines of, "Add in meditation," "Start journaling," or "Do some deep breathing exercises." While these methods certainly can be effective, is there something you can do within your life that doesn't add more onto your plate but still allows you to reduce your stress? On this week's episode of the Exercise Is Health® podcast, Julie and Charlie are sitting down with Dr. Tâmara Castelo to discuss this very topic. Tâmara has a unique approach to how she helps her patients reduce their stress, and she shares everything you need to know about it in this exclusive interview. What does health and well-being really mean? Today on the podcast I talk to Tâmara Castelo, a specialist in Chinese Traditional Medicine and the CEO of Tâmara Castelo Clinic (in Lisbon and Porto). Tâmara shares with us the importance of listening to our bodies for signs and symptoms way before they become bigger issues. We have to re-think the way our Western world defines health. Health does not mean the opposite of disease. Health is our happiness. Tâmara inspires us to pay attention to our poop as a big indicator of what's happening inside the body. Paying attention to our poop gives us information about what types of food our body processes well (and not so well). We explore why many people with anxiety have GI and digestive issues and three different ways you can offer your body some healing. When we live in a parasympathetic nervous system state, we have access to more creativity, motivation and we can even earn more money. Take a listen to the whole podcast and share your takeaways with us on Instagram @OneWade and @tamara__castelo. Curious to learn how to listen to your body more? Strengthening my mindfulness muscles over the years through formal and informal mindfulness practices has been a huge game changer in how I can hear/feel/know what my body is trying to communicate. It is a practice to untangle from our analytical focused world and let the body's wisdom guide us. If you are interested in strengthening your connection to your body, sign up for a complimentary connection call here to explore what working together can look like. ***** TÂMARA CASTELO is a specialist in Chinese Traditional Medicine and the CEO of Tâmara Castelo Clinic (Lisbon and Porto), TMC Health, TMC Holistic and TMC Jewellery. Have you ever noticed how often, performing the smallest, routine tasks—rituals, if you will—can have a ripple effect that results in a big transformation? Keeping a journal, drinking tea, lighting a candle, taking daily walks, and taking the stairs instead of the elevator are just a few examples of simple, routine steps that might deliver a major impact physically or mentally over time. In today's special guest Tâmara Castelo's new book The Power of Rituals, she walks readers through how to determine their biotype and, based on that, create a personal plan with easy, repetitive tasks designed to rebalance sleep, manage stress, reduce anxiety, and end toxic thoughts. Do you truly understand your body on a physical and mental level? It can be challenging to tap into what makes us unique and how we should function in a healthy way if we don't take the time to slow down. Your body constantly sends you messages, which can come through as physical ailments and diseases. If we want to live a holistic, healthy life, it is our job to ask questions about how to work with our bodies instead of against them. In this episode, my guest Dr. Castelo shares her perspective on how we can begin to heal our body and mind from a negative and fight-or-flight state to a place of peace and alignment. She shares some thought-provoking questions you may have never considered regarding your health. I know you will love this episode!

You wish to live in Portugal, but not in a big city or a small country town. And you'd love to be near the coast though any beach area is going to be dramatically costlier. Have you heard of Caldas da Rainha? A small historic city in Portugal's Silver Coast region with a 20 minute drive to the water. Diane Jacobsen moved there from Seattle, Washington. Caldas da Rainha is no longer a secret, as many Americans now call it home. Learn more about this lovely city on Episode 133 of Retire There with Gil & Gene. Also, check out Diane's townhouse rental, which is inside a castle, that she renovated in Castelo de Vide, Portugal, now available on Airbnb as Romance Inside Castle Walls with Private Garden. Diane highly recommends Martin Page's The First Global Village, How Portugal Changed the World, a 2006 book that explains in depth the rich history of Portugal to appreciate the country in modern times.

_______________ Obrigado aos mecenas do podcast: Francisco Hermenegildo, Ricardo Evangelista, Henrique Pais João Baltazar, Salvador Cunha, Abilio Silva, Tiago Leite, Carlos Martins, Galaró family, Corto Lemos, Miguel Marques, Nuno Costa, Nuno e Ana, João Ribeiro, Helder Miranda, Pedro Lima Ferreira, Cesar Carpinteiro, Luis Fernambuco, Fernando Nunes, Manuel Canelas, Tiago Gonçalves, Carlos Pires, João Domingues, Hélio Bragança da Silva, Sandra Ferreira , Paulo Encarnação , BFDC, António Mexia Santos, Luís Guido, Bruno Heleno Tomás Costa, João Saro, Daniel Correia, Rita Mateus, António Padilha, Tiago Queiroz, Carmen Camacho, João Nelas, Francisco Fonseca, Rafael Santos, Andreia Esteves, Ana Teresa Mota, ARUNE BHURALAL, Mário Lourenço, RB, Maria Pimentel, Luis, Geoffrey Marcelino, Alberto Alcalde, António Rocha Pinto, Ruben de Bragança, João Vieira dos Santos, David Teixeira Alves, Armindo Martins , Carlos Nobre, Bernardo Vidal Pimentel, António Oliveira, Paulo Barros, Nuno Brites, Lígia Violas, Tiago Sequeira, Zé da Radio, João Morais, André Gamito, Diogo Costa, Pedro Ribeiro, Bernardo Cortez Vasco Sá Pinto, David , Tiago Pires, Mafalda Pratas, Joana Margarida Alves Martins, Luis Marques, João Raimundo, Francisco Arantes, Mariana Barosa, Nuno Gonçalves, Pedro Rebelo, Miguel Palhas, Ricardo Duarte, Duarte , Tomás Félix, Vasco Lima, Francisco Vasconcelos, Telmo , José Oliveira Pratas, Jose Pedroso, João Diogo Silva, Joao Diogo, José Proença, João Crispim, João Pinho , Afonso Martins, Robertt Valente, João Barbosa, Renato Mendes, Maria Francisca Couto, Antonio Albuquerque, Ana Sousa Amorim, Francisco Santos, Lara Luís, Manuel Martins, Macaco Quitado, Paulo Ferreira, Diogo Rombo, Francisco Manuel Reis, Bruno Lamas, Daniel Almeida, Patrícia Esquível , Diogo Silva, Luis Gomes, Cesar Correia, Cristiano Tavares, Pedro Gaspar, Gil Batista Marinho, Maria Oliveira, João Pereira, Rui Vilao, João Ferreira, Wedge, José Losa, Hélder Moreira, André Abrantes, Henrique Vieira, João Farinha, Manuel Botelho da Silva, João Diamantino, Ana Rita Laureano, Pedro L, Nuno Malvar, Joel, Rui Antunes7, Tomás Saraiva, Cloé Leal de Magalhães, Joao Barbosa, paulo matos, Fábio Monteiro, Tiago Stock, Beatriz Bagulho, Pedro Bravo, Antonio Loureiro, Hugo Ramos, Inês Inocêncio, Telmo Gomes, Sérgio Nunes, Tiago Pedroso, Teresa Pimentel, Rita Noronha, miguel farracho, José Fangueiro, Zé, Margarida Correia-Neves, Bruno Pinto Vitorino, João Lopes, Joana Pereirinha, Gonçalo Baptista, Dario Rodrigues, tati lima, Pedro On The Road, Catarina Fonseca, JC Pacheco, Sofia Ferreira, Inês Ribeiro, Miguel Jacinto, Tiago Agostinho, Margarida Costa Almeida, Helena Pinheiro, Rui Martins, Fábio Videira Santos, Tomás Lucena, João Freitas, Ricardo Sousa, RJ, Francisco Seabra Guimarães, Carlos Branco, David Palhota, Carlos Castro, Alexandre Alves, Cláudia Gomes Batista, Ana Leal, Ricardo Trindade, Luís Machado, Andrzej Stuart-Thompson, Diego Goulart, Filipa Portela, Paulo Rafael, Paloma Nunes, Marta Mendonca, Teresa Painho, Duarte Cameirão, Rodrigo Silva, José Alberto Gomes, Joao Gama, Cristina Loureiro, Tiago Gama, Tiago Rodrigues, Miguel Duarte, Ana Cantanhede, Artur Castro Freire, Rui Passos Rocha, Pedro Costa Antunes, Sofia Almeida, Ricardo Andrade Guimarães, Daniel Pais, Miguel Bastos, Luís Santos _______________ Esta conversa foi editada por: Hugo Oliveira _______________ Bio: Vítor Hugo Teixeira 48 anos é licenciado em Ciências da Nutrição e Doutorado em Nutrição Humana, pela Faculdade de Ciências da Nutrição e Alimentação da Universidade do Porto. I recently read the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. If you haven't read that book, definitely check it out. As I was finishing up this book, I was introduced to my guest today, Tamara Castelo. Tamara has written several books, but it's her most recent work, The Power of Rituals, that caught my eye. When I think of rituals, I originally thought of witchy or woo-woo. That was a bit closed-minded. And I was wrong. My conversation taught me that rituals are simply habits with intention. There is a mindfulness behind the habit. I wanted to have Tamara on to share that we can and will show up better at work with selecting the right rituals for us. All of a sudden, that cup of coffee you have each morning becomes part of the way you take care of yourself. You feel better prepared to tackle your day and are more productive as a result. And it all started with how you drank your cup of coffee a bit differently that morning. You did it with intention. Maybe you journal a bit. Maybe you took a few deep breaths. Whatever you do, these small rituals can make a difference.During our conversation, Tamara and I also discussed:Why are rituals important in our lives and at work? What led Tamara to study Chinese Medicine. She also clarified it's more than acupuncture. What the three Ayurvedic body types are – vata, pitta, and kapha and the main characteristics of each. How all of these ties into better health and as a result, a more powerful existence, both personally and professionally. And I even asked Tamara for some help on where to travel when I go to Portugal. I haven't gone yet, but Lisbon and Porto are definitely on my list.
Have you ever observed the significant impact that can result from performing small, routine tasks, often referred to as rituals? Such rituals, including keeping a journal, drinking tea, lighting candles, taking daily walks, or choosing stairs over elevators, may have a profound effect on one's physical and mental well-being over time. Tamara Castelo, CEO of Tâmara Castelo Clinic in Portugal, believes that solutions exist for every problem, but people often struggle to access them due to a lack of direction and over-stimulation. Today, she joins us to discuss her new book, The Power of Rituals, and addresses questions such as the most effective simple rituals to reduce daily stress, the significance of daily rituals, the importance of physical touch, the benefits of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and more...-------------------------------Links Discussed in This EpisodeOrder a Copy of Minimalist Moms: Living and Parenting with SimplicityDiane's Resource: Yogi Egyptian Licorice Tea (I get mine on Thrive Market, if you're interested!)Podcast Episode: EP743 Peter Attia on the Rich Roll PodcastBook: Outlive: The Science & Art of Longevity by Peter AttiaBook: Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker Connect with Tâmara:WebsiteFacebookInstagramShow Notes for The Power of Small RitualsEnjoy this Podcast?Post a review and share it! Episode Summary After everything we've been through in the past few years, anxiety in our population is at an all-time high. You may have felt it yourself. Dr. Tâmara Castelo has seen this firsthand with her patients. After over 12 years in her career as a doctor, once the pandemic hit she had to shift her way of working. She needed to figure out the best ways to reduce anxiety in her patients to provide the best support through such a highly stressful time. As an expert in Chinese medicine, she has tons of experience helping others move out of a state of anxiety. And she helps patients understand how to become more attuned to their bodies. This helps reduce anxiousness, tension, stress, and discomfort. We often forget to connect with our body or really tap into what our body needs. So often, stress and anxiety can actually present physically in our bodies. Understanding what these physical manifestations mean can help us get to the real root of the problem. In this podcast, Dr. Castelo teaches us about how our body tries to speak to us when we're constantly experiencing things like anxiety and perceived stress, pain, or migraines. She'll also dive into the discussion of sleep, and how to prioritize it to help manage our physical and mental health. She'll explain to you the secret to the optimal amount of sleep you should get every night. If you've been dealing with anxiety, migraines, body aches, or stress– this podcast is for you. Dr. Castelo teaches us so much about looking into your body and recognizing what it needs. You can make these observations of your body through powerful rituals that Dr. Castelo explains further in this show. She goes deeper into this concept in her book The Power of Rituals: Small Habits, Big Changes for your Well-being and Health. But listen to this podcast now to immediately start implementing these simple and effective rituals to ease your anxiety and improve your life! Quotes “When we can understand our bodies, we can really learn how to heal.” “One of the things that I love so much, especially for women, is rituals that help them to reduce burnout, stress, and anxiety and overwhelm.” “People think that the overload is when you are going through [an anxiety attack], but it's not actually– it's the effect after that is the problem” “We've got to be more tuned in with our body and especially our physical body– and really connect into that deeper sense of ‘what is going on'. Because that's going to really support setting in the rituals and doing the things that are really going to support us.” Resources Mentioned Dr. Castelo's Book: THE POWER OF RITUALS: Small Habits, Big Changes for Your Well-Being and Health Dr. Tamara Castelo's Website Connect with Dr. Castelo: Instagram, Youtube Related Episodes #397: Start Getting Deep, Restful Sleep Tonight with These 5 Hacks #222: Approachable, Effective Strategies for Managing ANxiety Even During Difficult Times with Cameron Rogers #180: How to Overcome the Anxiety Pandemic by Managing Your Mindset with Dr. Joan Rosenberg #144: Using Breath to Heal Anxiety, Addiction, and Much, Much More with Samantha Skelly #99: Learn How to Not Just "Cope" or "Manage" Anxiety, but Truly Say Goodby to Anxiety for Good with Stephanie Dalfonzo
