Artists and musician team up for BAU show There's plenty of cross-pollination behind the scenes at the Poetry of Place exhibit scheduled to open March 8 with a reception at the Beacon Artist Union (BAU) Gallery. Next month will be mixed-media artist and BAU member Karen Allen's turn to display in the showcase gallery visible from the street, and she invited Jenn Wiggs, who lives in Missouri, to share the space. "Jenn said that she always wanted a show in New York, so I found one," says Allen, who resides in Westchester County. Allen discovered Wiggs' work online during the pandemic, and they gelled. During regular virtual visits, they discuss approach, technique and philosophy. Another of Allen's partnerships will also be on display - with vibraphonist Chris Dingman. They met in October at an Ossining art fair after Dingman paused to study one of Allen's pieces. "I saw him ponder it for a while and then circle around it like a shark," Allen says. For their collaboration, she lends the musician a piece of her art and "I connect with it and visualize the energy," says Dingman, who lives in Nyack. He improvises tones, splices them together and drenches the mix in effects, resulting in experimental ambient sounds. Dingman will perform at the gallery during the opening reception with a hip-high vibraphone, a cross between a piano and a percussion instrument. His 4- to 6-minute compositions will be accessible through QR codes. The Dingman track responding to Allen's "Shadow Hamadryade" stacks layers of cascading notes over a propulsive rhythm. Intertwining drone tones and a prominent hum compete for attention. After the emergence of a throbbing vocal, the song builds to a crescendo. Another piece of music is inspired by Allen's "Third Eye of Hook Mountain," which augments the vaguely discernible features of the Nyack landmark with an underbelly of what could be a river of darkness or primordial layering. As Dingman's tones unfold, dynamics swell, notes seem to play at random intervals and an electronic, Morse Code-like tone chimes. Allen's artistic vision began with a realistic bent: landscapes, figuratives and still lifes. But after meeting Wiggs, she dug into her feelings and "let the spirit take control." According to her website, Allen follows "visual intuitions" and explores a "poetic vision" to convey moods, rather than objects, as she turns toward abstraction. With that approach, "it's easy to start getting into a canvas or montage," she says. "The hard part is knowing when it's done." Some abstract artists are averse to interpreting their work. Others say they want only to know how a piece makes viewers feel - ask at your peril if that cloudy figure in the corner is a bird. For Wiggs, "if someone tells me they see a squirrel and I recognize the squirrel, I'm painting it out," says Wiggs. "Everyone wants to know the meaning behind an edgy piece of art or music. The question is often the answer because sometimes words fail us, and it's just about how we respond emotionally." A joint opening reception for Poetry of Place; Translucent Hues, by Eileen Sackman; and a member group show is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on March 8 at the BAU Gallery, 506 Main St. The exhibits continue through April 6. BAU Gallery is open Saturday and Sunday, noon to 6 p.m., and by appointment. See baugallery.org.

Chris Dingman is a vibraphonist who shares his journey into music, the transformative power of sound, how he became a music channeller, and even how he found mediumship. He discusses the unique qualities of the vibraphone, his experiences with grief, and how he uses music as a healing tool. The conversation also delves into his Bardo Bath events and the profound sound and color experiences that Sarah experienced while experiencing his Transformation event. The crew discusses spiritual experiences that inspire creativity and the importance of curiosity in understanding one's mediumistic abilities. Chris talks about how he channels music and ultimately explains why he loves playing music so much: the thrill of exploring the unknown in music creation.  Takeaways Transformational music sessions are designed for healing and reflection. Grief can manifest in many forms and deserves space for processing. Sound can create a liminal space for transcendence. Mediumship can be explored through music and personal experiences. The work of mediumship can be healing for both the practitioner and the recipient. Curiosity drives personal growth and understanding in mediumship. The journey of creation is often more valuable than the final product. Community plays a vital role in artistic endeavors. Exploration in music can lead to unexpected paths Sound Bites from Chris "I started seeing spirits while playing music." "The work heals you." Commencing his Club Med adventure as a Boutique G.O. in 1993 at Club Med Sandpiper, we eventually crossed paths at the EXGO Reunion 3 in Club Med Cancun in 2010. Inspired by a co-worker who worked for Club Med in the 70s, he embarked on this unique career path. Originally hailing from Michigan and presently calling Palm Springs home, let's extend a warm welcome to the delightful Chris Dingman! For early 90s G.O.s, this episode promises a nostalgic journey as Chris shares captivating stories and a treasure trove of memories from that era. Without giving too much away, our conversation touches on a myriad of intriguing topics: Madonna, Dream Sheet, Mike Coltman Dress Codes, Atlantis in Playa Blanca, Corky's rendition of Crazy by Patsy Cline, visits to the Dentist in San Carlos, the Haunted Village, Olivia, Sober Week/Poached Pears, and much more. Prepare for a laughter-filled exploration of the past as Chris reminisces about the good old days, dropping names and anecdotes that will surely resonate with those who lived through that era. We even attempt to unravel the mystery of why we don't recall meeting during Chris's two-week stint at Columbus Isle in 1996! As Chris ascended to the role of Chief of Boutique, he provided unique insights into the behind-the-scenes workings, offering a glimpse into the meticulous training required to run the Club Med boutique as a small business. To all early 90s G.O.s, rejoice, for Chris is here to guide us down memory lane. Dinger joins Brady once again!! Live Wednesday January 27th, 2021 @4PM EST Chris Dingman is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played in the National Hockey League with the Calgary Flames, Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Dingman played junior hockey for the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, and served as that team's captain when they won the WHL Championship during the 1995–96 season. In his best campaign (1994–95) he scored 40 goals and totalled 83 points in 66 games, while also amassing 201 minutes in penalties, making him a multiple threat. Dingman, or "Dinger" as he is known colloquially, was drafted by the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League (19th overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft), and played his first full NHL season for the Flames in 1997–98, where he earned a reputation as a tough customer and found himself involved as a checker and a pugilist as opposed to a scoring line player. During the 1998–99 season, he was included in the Theoren Fleury trade to the Colorado Avalanche in a multiplayer swap that saw him trade places with fellow combatant and old nemesis from the WHL, Wade Belak.[1] Dingman plied his trade with the Avalanche for three seasons and won a Stanley Cup. After winning a Stanley Cup, he ended up with the Carolina Hurricanes. He was then dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2002. While he saw only limited action in his first campaign there, he gradually earned more and more ice time and in 2004, Dingman won another Stanley Cup with the Lightning. He was scratched for the last two Lightning/Senators games of the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs after earning a seven-minute Ottawa powerplay after challenging Chris Neil, but Neil turtled when Dingman started punching him, leading to a fighting, instigator, and game misconduct penalties. Dingman never played again in the NHL. Dingman totaled 120 fights in his NHL career. His most notable was his beatdown of Bryce Salvador in November, 2000. At one point in the fight, both Dingman and Salvador had their right fists cocked, squared up, and simultaneously threw a punch. Salvador's punch missed while Dingman's punch connected with Salvador's jaw and sent Salvador's mouthpiece flying out of his mouth. Salvador crumpled to the ice, proving to be one of the most dynamic victories of Dingman's career. In November 2006 he was acquired by Södertälje SK, in Sweden. He played 2007 for AaB Ishockey of the Oddset Ligaen in Denmark. Dingman performed as a color commentator for the Tampa Bay Lightning on the Sun Sports network.[2] During the 2016 season, he wasn't expected to return in that role.

Today, we talk with Chris Dingman, vibraphonist and composer who embodies creativity and spirituality in his journey to connect people. Music can bring people together; music is a place where everyone can gather. Chris’ began seeing music as a healing modality when walking with his father in his final weeks. —— "I've been exploring ways that improvisation and music can help us heal, can help us find and create pathways within ourselves." -Chris Dingman "No matter who you are, or what your perspective is, or what you’re going through, when you come to a piece of music that brings you peace, you’re going to share that in common with a lot of different people. It can be a very unifying thing. Music has that capability of bringing people together in ways that is hard to achieve otherwise." - Chris Dingman —— Everyday Spirituality is a podcast from connect.faith; which is a new worshiping community of the Presbyterian Church (USA) unbound by location coming together at the intersection of creativity, spirituality and justice. Holy hell I laughed a lot in this one. Chris is a story teller & his stories are fantastic. He won a WHL championship with the Brandon Wheat Kings, went to two Memorial Cups & was drafted 19th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1994 NHL entry draft. We discuss winning 2 cups one of which was with Joe Sakic, Ray Bourque & Peter Forsberg of the 2001 Colorado Avalanche. His 2nd cup came with Martin St. Louis, Vincent Lecavalier & Brad Richards of the 2004 Tampa Bay Lightning. Bus trips in the WHL, beating the crap out of anyone & everyone, drumming live with Garth Brooks or being front row for Celine Dion are just a snapshot into the stories Chris shared. Enjoy!
