Wondering how to save money as a mom so you don't have to worry about your personal finance and future financial situation? Here's How a Mom of 3 Saved $169K in 2 Years and plans to retire at 40... My guest at the Invest Diva Movement today is Jamila Souffrant, the Founder & CEO of Journeytolaunch.com. Jamila is a Wife & Mom of 3 in New York but before she had kids, She had a good job with a commute from hell - Brooklyn to Morristown NJ. Sometimes it was 4 hours driving in total a day! She then decided she 'didn't like her Corporate America job and didn’t want to have to call anyone else boss. In her early 30's she set the goal that she would retire from her job and be financially independent at 40. She began a plan in which she and her husband changed their lifestyle, began investing and began saving money - they saved $85,000 in just one year... In 2018 she reached her goal, quit her job and began Journey To Launch full time! Today she's going to tell us exactly how she did this, how she got her husband on board, and how they did this while keeping the balance and not giving up on all the joys of life. Here's a story that inspired her to do this: "I heard a millionaire educator and his wife, both teachers were able to retire early or create a million-dollar portfolio on teacher salaries because they saved and invested half their income." Here's how she got her husband on board with the budgeting to get to their financial goals: "It was really important for him to get on board with the budgeting because a lot of the saving and invested it was both of us, right? It was two of our incomes combined to be able to do that. So essentially, I sent him articles and podcasts which he really probably never read or listened to. Then I sat down with him and I said what would it take to live a really good lifelike in the future, like let's just say because he's a teacher and with New York City, he gets to retire at 50 Early, which is still early compared to the average age. So I said, Okay, let's just say you retired at 35. And I didn't like I also was able to retire, what would you want to do? Like every day? Where would you want to take trips? And so we talked about that I got him excited about that. And I said, Okay, and what do you consider a good life now? So I kind of bounced between what is a good life later? And what's a good life now? And then what can we do? Is there a way that we can balance the two, like, where we don't have to give up everything that we love now, but then we are more intentional about later that those conversations and showing him the numbers helped. I think men Well, at least my husband, he is very much a numbers guy, when he sees the numbers it helps. So I created a spreadsheet that showed him. If we were to save and invest like half our income or a lot of our income, over the next 5-10 years, we would have this much money, like versus if we do what we do now. So it showed like our portfolio our net worth really accumulating a lot and he was just like, oh, and this doesn't mean like we never go out to eat again. I was like, No, we can do that so that's kind of like what got him excited about everything too." Married Money Management Tips: open communication and being on the same balance and validating each other's feelings because yeah, for me, like saving money and putting into investing is super important for my husband.

"You can think of exercise as an intravenous dose of hope." ~Kelly McGonigalKelly McGonigal (@kellymcgonigal) is a health psychologist and lecturer at Stanford University who specializes in understanding the mind-body connection. As a pioneer in the field of "science-help," her mission is to translate insights from psychology and neuroscience into practical strategies that support personal well-being and strengthen communities. She is the best-selling author of The Willpower Instinct and The Upside of Stress.Through the Stanford Center for Compassion and Altruism, she helped create Stanford Compassion Cultivation Training, a program now taught around the world that helps individuals strengthen their empathy, compassion, and self-compassion.You might know her from her TED talk, "How to Make Stress Your Friend," which is one of the most viewed TED talks of all time, with over 20 million views. Her new book, The Joy of Movement, explores why physical exercise is a powerful antidote to the modern epidemics of depression, anxiety, and loneliness. In this episode, we talk about everything from tai chi to ultra-marathons to dance, and we really get into the science around how these different movements produce chemical changes in our brains that lift our mood and reduce anxiety and depression. Here, Kelly gives us the scoop about something called "hope molecules" and the minimum effective dose of movement required to produce them.Connect with Kelly: Website | Twitter | Facebook | InstagramLinks from this episode:The Joy of Movement: How Exercise Helps Us Find Happiness, Hope, Connection, and Courage by Kelly McGonigalThe Upside of Stress: Why Stress Is Good for You, and How to Get Good at It by Kelly McGonigalOther Books by Kelly McGonigalThe Stanford Center for Compassion and AltruismHow to Make Stress Your Friend by Kelly McGonigal, TEDGlobal 2013StudioNia, PortlandTai Chi: A Gentle Way to Fight Stress, The Mayo ClinicA History and Style Guide of Tae Kwon Do, LiveAboutYoga for Everyone, The New York TimesUltra-Endurance Athletics, The Why? 5 SIGNS OF A PSYCHOLOGICALLY SAFE PERSON discusses the concept of psychological safety coined by Amy Edmondson, the Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School. Professor Edmondson defines psychological safety as “a shared belief that the team is safe for interpersonal risk taking.” This message applies her concept to personal relationships for survivors of narcissistic abuse and talks about some of the ways survivors can set themselves up for deep healing and positive health outcomes by recognizing the signs of psychologically safe people. This message touches on the importance of discernment in the aftermath of narcissism exposure with regard to the individuals a survivor chooses to associate with as well as the environment(s) the survivor chooses to occupy which play a key role to the survivor's recovery process. Dr Katherine O'Keefe is an author, and the director of training and a management consultant with Castlebridge, a data privacy and information governance consultancy. Emily Harman, the host of Onward Podcast, interviews Rodney Flowers, Founder and President of Inspirational Endeavors, LLC. Rodney shares how he worked hard to move onward after a high school football injury left him completely paralyzed, incapacitated, and confined to a wheelchair at age 15. Rodney is the author of the life-affirming and highly-inspiring Amazon bestselling book, Get Up! I Can’t. I Will. I Did…Here’s How! Rodney’s mission is to serve as an example to inspire, motivate, and encourage others to never give up and reach for their hopes and dreams with earnest expectations, regardless of challenges. Rodney is also a keynote speaker, resilience trainer, and host of The Game Changer Mentality podcast. Episode Highlights: Emily Harman introduces Rodney Flowers. Rodney explains what motivates him to keep charging ahead in his life. How did Rodney Flowers get injured? How long was Rodney hospitalized? Who were his caregivers at that time? What helped Rodney develop a mindset of possibility? How long did it take Rodney to get out of the wheelchair and how did he do it? Rodney talks about his commitment to fitness and the books he has authored. Rodney starts his day the day before by writing the 6 critical things he wants to accomplish the next day. How did it feel when Rodney took his first step? What is the best way to not offend a person with disabilities when you want to help? Rodney explains how his mother and family motivated him to become more independent using tough love. Who are other game changers that have motivated Rodney? 3 Key Points: Rodney’s work revolves around finding answers to this question: How can we live better, more fulfilled lives regardless of the scars of our past and the setbacks of our present? The majority Rodney’s battle was mental not physical. Think about what you can do and focus on that. Don’t fixate on what you can’t do. Practice what you can do over and over again. Your past is part of you story, but it doesn’t define who you are. An extraordinary life is waiting for you just over the horizon of your self-defeating beliefs, your doubts, and your excuses. You can develop a Game Changer mentality! Tweetable Quotes: “Showing up makes a difference. What I do every day makes a difference. Giving of myself. Being that example of what is possible. It makes a difference for someone. It drives me forward.” – Rodney Flowers “A team of neurologists visited my bedside to pass along my diagnosis. My diagnosis was quadriplegic. I was completely paralyzed. I had no movement or sensation in any of my extremities. And the doctor said I had a 92% chance of remaining that way for the rest of my life.” – Rodney Flowers “I developed a strong belief in God. I started looking at what is possible. That was really the game-changing element of all of this: what is possible? Because you want to recover. You want to walk again. You want to live the life that you had.” – Rodney Flowers Resources Mentioned: Linkedin: Rodney Flowers Rodney’s website Order Rodney’s books! Book: “Get Up!: I Can't. I Will. I Did...
