In this episode, Eva interviews Hether. They discuss her first meeting at 8 years old and how her family became "picture perfect" until she started getting in trouble. She got reproved for getting pregnant in her teens and then got disfellowshipped later on. She came back to the organization to give it an honest try before leaving for good in her mid-20s. They also discuss the complexities of dealing with her parents prior to finally cutting them off. episode 111 A few weeks ago, Kelsey and I wrapped up our first A Line Within retreat in Ruka, Finland and to say it was magical is an understatement. All fifteen of us walked away from the experience with a heart full of gratitude and a transformed frequency. Today we invited Hether Gage, a participant from our retreat, to share her experience and to have a little reminiscing chat to help you feel as though you were part of it. Hether also shares a poem she wrote that brought me to tears both in person and also in this episode. We still have a few spots open for our Panama retreat coming up in May. “Knee Deep In That Cold White Stuff.” In this icy installment of Best Song Ever we talk about the snowstorm of the century, shoveling, and petty snow plowers. Inspired by the Cruella trailer we pitch ideas for gritty Disney villain origin stories. Our songs take us to space to the beach and then back to space. We laugh at each other’s song picks but debate and defend our varied style preferences. All this while playing some lush and lively songs from amazing artists. For his first pick of a 2021 album, Shane chose "Sticky Thumb", an album by 25 year old Lo-Fi artist Paul Castelluzzo who creates music under the name, "Hether." Paul grew up playing Jazz and listening to T. Rex, Beach Boys, Velvet Underground, and The Beatles. Shane and Trevor definitely hear a 60's influence amidst layers of simmering and floating synthesizers and bedroom acoustic guitar. Sticky Thumb is intentionally unpolished as Paul set out to let creation and discovery happen in the moment with many of these songs being created in one take. The lyrics aren't spelled out clearly but are drenched in adolescent nostalgia for the mid-twenties artist with references to surfboards, cartoons, and blue canvas shoes. Trevor and Shane had fun unpacking these songs and are looking forward to seeing what Hether creates next.

Ok friendos welcome to EP39 of BORP! we have survived the New Years winter Armageddon to bring you, the listener (!), yet another round of Mick and Tristan's inane banter. When we are on point we discuss a wide range of interesting music and film, however the conversation does at a couple points devolve into discussing Mickey's beard. Again. Elsewhere Tristan goes on a rueful, weather related rant regarding his woefully inadequate garbage service. Don't Get him started! Lets dig in.For our beverage picks (11:15) Mick and Tristan take a deep look into the still emergent co-op/ contract brewing industry and how it is changing our perspective of how craft beer can work. To that end we try two beers from the Vancouver based Craft Collective: The Paper Cup Navigating Darkness Stout, and the Phantom Brewing Remembering Tomorrow IPA. We had a ton of fun checking out two of the newest kids on the block.Mickey picked the album (30:23) this week and went with one of his all time favourites and influential albums of his formative years: the incendiary and political thrasher of a punk album, Less Talk More Rock by Manitoba hooligans Propagandhi. We look back on the rise and fall and evolution of the punk band that never fit in, their fearless antagonizing of neo facism, and their apoplectic furor against, not only all the perceived wrongs in the world, but how little their community actually cared. Rest assured they had an answer to it all.For our film pick (1:22:47) we watched the 2014 nocturnal thriller Nightcrawler. Set upon a beautifully shot LA underbelly at night illuminated by sirens and fraught with tension. The film is a disturbing depiction of moral relativism and how the qualities we associate with heroism can be co-opted by the most insidious of individuals. In an industry already wreaking of corruption, a mysterious Lou Bloom, with his undeleting drive for transactional success, somehow makes everything- and everyone- worse. For New and Noteworthy (2:00:37) we listen to new stuff from Hether, Wild Nothing, Datach'i, and U.S. Girls. As we reach the end with Three Questions (2:36:00) Mickey checks in on Winter Tristan and we look back on some early work of Jake Gylenhall. Find the EP on iTunes, Spotify, or our own site Midrange. Find all the tracks we discuss at length on our EP 39 playlist on Spotify or Apple Music. In this episode, I speak with Hether Cahill. Hether is a partner at the Boston law firm Burns & Levinson where she handles probate litigation. Hether and I discuss the path to partnership for women and why she likes family conflict. Introduction The majority of law school graduates are now women. Despite this demographic change, the growth of women in partnership ranks in major law firms continues to stagnate. While there are many explanations for this (women still bear a greater burden for child rearing than men and are penalized for that; men have some advantages in cultivating business relationships), there are women who manage to buck the trend and break through the glass ceiling. Over the next few months I will be interviewing women who have achieved this and made it past the barriers. They will be telling their stories, what it was like then and offer tips for younger women are hoping to elevate their legal careers. Hether Cahill is one of those women. I met Hether through my ProVisors networking group and I was impressed with her enthusiasm for handling family conflict, something that many of us would much rather avoid. But Hether’s obvious enjoyment of this work is infectious so I invited her to be on the show. Hether grew up as the daughter of a single mother who was practicing law in Berkshire County. Her mother was a great role model for her and today Hether enjoys being a part of the partnership ranks at one of Boston's prominent midsize law firms. Hether talks about what it is like to be a female partner at a major firm and offers some advice for younger lawyers who share her ambition.

For Episode 105 of The CareerMetis Podcast, we will learn about: A Day in the Life of an Interior Designer from our guest Darci Hether.Guest Introduction – Darci HetherAs an esteemed interior designer located in New York City – with projects that span coast to coast and internationally – Darci Hether specializes in luxury, full service, turn-key residential interiorsEpisode Summary 1. Since her childhood, Darci Hether has had a strong affinity toward interior designing. It was not uncommon for her to rearrange her parents living room or her bedroom furniture. Not knowing it was a viable career, she was prepared to take courses until she found what she enjoyed.2. After helping a friend with a design project, Darci found her passion and pursued it without regrets.3. Darci goes into detail about what an interior designers do, and how it differs from what we see on HGTV. Her firm takes the project from conception to completion, and that takes a lot more attention to detail and communication than most people are aware of.4. Darcy outlines her day to day, complete with meetings, outlines, marketing, client relations and communication. She also has to stay on top of the marketplace to see what's new and available for her next client.5. The selection process and curating the items for presentation tends to be Darcy's favourite part of the process. When she was a solo entrepreneur, she had to run it all, and there were parts of her job she didn't enjoy as much, but now that she has a team she gets to focus on business development. Bringing in the finishing touches and injecting the client's personality into the space makes her truly happy.6. Darci shares her thoughts on how someone who is interested in becoming an interior designer could get started. She feels that both design and business courses could make a huge difference in the success of a new designer.7. Darci also talks about the value that can be gained from working alongside another designer in order to learn in a more immersive way.8. Darci also talks about certification, and the best ways to learn more within the interior design industry without paying a ton of money for courses.Quotes“I feel like a lot of times there's a misconception that we pet pretty fabrics and we pick pretty sofas and it's all very fabulous”.“There's kind of a saying in the industry where it's 10 to 20 percent design and 80 to 90 percent business”.“There's a lot that happens behind the scenes, and we're very detailed.”“I do recommend at least taking the intro class”.“You need to know your numbers, you don't want to just blindly hand it off to someone”.“There's definitely space within the industry”.“Find a mentor, somebody who can help you along the way”.Links & ResourcesTo learn more about Darci Hether , you can visit her website.
