April began with the announcement of US "reciprocal tariffs", which ranged from 10% to 49% on exports from South East Asian nations. This has created toxic uncertainty across all industries in the region, notably business travel. But before the tariff turmoil, Q1 had delivered mixed results for travel and tourism, with the Eid al-Fitr holiday numbers particularly weak in Malaysia and Indonesia. Was this the result of the Lunar New Year and Eid public holidays being in the same quarter, or are we at the start of a cyclical travel slowdown in ASEAN? On our monthly roundup, Gary and Hannah assess the latest data and insights gleaned from attending and speaking at travel industry events throughout the month. Plus, Thailand plans to reframe its 2025 tourism strategy after reducing its revenue forecast, Vietnam experiences glitches at the opening of a new airport terminal, and China and Malaysia extend their bilateral visa-free access agreement. And, Indonesia and UN Tourism unveil a detailed set of tourism investment guidelines, Balis vows to enforce new behavioural rules for tourists, and more South East Asian vacationers are heading to Macau.

Hello, and welcome to episode 173 of the Childless not by Choice Podcast. My name is Civilla Morgan. My mission is to recognize and speak to childless not by choice women and men worldwide, reminding us that we can live joyful, relevant, fulfilled, childless not by choice lives.   Whether you have children or not, thank you for tuning in!     What is today's show about? Intro (for guest episodes): I started coaching because I wanted to support others to achieve what they really want, but they weren't sure how to do it! Around 6 years ago a coach at work really helped me gain clarity about my future when I was uncertain about how it would look. The uncertainty occurred when I was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage four endometriosis, it was a huge shock that affected my career and personal life.  So, why mindbodyrevival_coach, I'm often asked? I integrate the mind-body connection in my work. The way the body responds to how we think, feel, and act can impact our entire well-being.  During my practice, I can also use journaling and breath work to support my clients move through their thoughts when they're feeling stuck. I work from an intersectional perspective because, like my own situation, I understand the nuances of each individual's circumstances. Body of episode:   Tell us about your passion for Coaching and what Revival means to you.   So, in the world of childless not by choice, those of us who wanted but could not have children are on a similar journey caused typically by different illnesses. For me it was fibroids and time. On your website you say for you it was Endometriosis and Adenomyosis?           Can you tell us your story, as much as you would like to share?   You are transitioning or should I say evolving from CNBC to life after infertility…tell us more.    I love the cheat sheet questions to ask your doctor at doctor visits. I always say we should have a list of questions and never fear getting a second opinion.   In our pre-chat you explained a little about Eid. I suppose Eid al Fitr. I also see there is an Eid al-Adha, commemorating the willingness of the Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son. That story I know, but tell us more about Eid al Fitr.   You mentioned that you grew up in a multicultural home. Tell us how that may speak to your intersectional perspective. If it does.    Talk to us about your book, the 1 in 8. And tell us about any upcoming projects you may have coming up.   As we close, is there anything that you would like to make sure we cover?

Episode #328: In the aftermath of Myanmar's devastating earthquake, Htuu Lou Rae paints a grim picture of systemic neglect and discrimination faced by the country's Muslim community. The disaster struck during ‘Eid al-Fitr, the holiest day of Ramadan, when mosques were packed with worshipers. Tragically, many of these mosques—centuries old—collapsed due to decades of state-imposed bans on their repair. Rae highlights how successive regimes denied routine maintenance of these religious sites, effectively turning them into death traps.Beyond the earthquake's physical toll, Htuu Lou Rae describes a deeper, ongoing crisis: institutional and social discrimination that continued through the rescue phase. He reports that junta-led efforts largely ignored Muslim victims, and even civil society-led aid responses may be compromised by lingering anti-Muslim sentiment. Online abuse and discriminatory denial of housing further underscore the community's marginalization.Htuu Lou Rae also warns against the junta's cynical manipulation of Muslim suffering to attract international aid—particularly from Muslim-majority countries like Pakistan—while hoarding resources for its own benefit. He advocates bypassing both the junta and the National Unity Government (NUG), calling instead for aid to flow through trusted organizations like USAID and Muslim-led civil society groups. Despite the bleakness,Yet Htuu Lou Rae sees a silver lining amid all the challenges. He has observed growing public solidarity across ethnic and religious lines, and envisions a coordinated, independent relief mechanism to address the crisis effectively. “Doesn't that make more sense and isn't [it] also going to, at the same time, help the country recover from this multi-layered humanitarian crisis?”

This is the Catchup on 3 Things by The Indian Express and I'm Flora Swain.Today is the 31st of March and here are the headlines.Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Monday said there is “no need to search” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's successor as he will continue to hold the top post again in 2029. The statement came in response to Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut claim that the RSS is set to pick Modi's successor. Earlier in the day, Raut said Modi's visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur on Sunday was to convey the message to Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat that he is retiring. “There is no need to search for his successor. He (Modi) is our leader and will continue,” Fadnavis said, speaking to reporters in Nagpur.Kashmir's chief priest Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday condemned the decision of the Valley authorities to “not allow” Eid prayers at the sacred spaces of Eidgah and Jama Masjid and said it showcases the “oppressive and authoritarian approach that prevails in Kashmir today”. In a video statement on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, he also claimed that he has been placed under house arrest ahead of the prayers. “Eidgah and Jama Masjid belong to the people. Barring them from these sacred spaces even on Eid reflects an oppressive and authoritarian approach that prevails in Kashmir today,” Mirwaiz said in a post on X.Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemning the Centre's decision to permit offshore mining along the coasts of Kerala, Gujarat, and Andaman & Nicobar. Urging the government to cancel the tenders issued for the offshore mining blocks, Gandhi asserted that rigorous scientific studies must be undertaken to assess the environmental as well as socio-economic impact of offshore mining. “But most importantly, all stakeholders, especially our fisherfolk must be consulted before any major decision is taken. Their lives are intertwined with the fate of our oceans. Let us work collectively towards building a sustainable future for all,” the Congress leader has written in the letter.US President Donald Trump has said that he is “very angry” and “pissed off” with Russian President Vladimir Putin after attempting to broker a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, and said he would impose sanctions on buyers of Russian oil if he feels that the Kremlin is blocking the deal negotiation.Citing a telephone interview with NBC News, it's reported that Trump was angry with Putin after he raised doubts over the credibility of Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's leadership last week. The US president even threatened to impose a 50% tariff on countries buying Russian oil if Putin doesn't agree to a ceasefire deal. Trump's frustration grew due to a lack of movement in the Russia-Ukraine ceasefire agreement, as he said that he could impose new trade restrictions on Russia within a month. The war began in February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine.Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday rejected direct negotiations with the United States over the nuclear program, offering Tehran's first response to President Donald Trump's explosive letter wherein he threatened to bomb Iran if it doesn't negotiate over the nuclear deal. President Pezeshkian said that the response of Iran via the sultanate of Oman still has the possibility of indirect negotiations with Washington. During Trump's first term in 2018, he had unilaterally withdrawn America from Tehran's nuclear deal with world powers. “We don't avoid talks; it's the breach of promises that has caused issues for us so far. They must prove that they can build trust,” Pezeshkian said. The US State Department, in its response to President Pezeshkian, stated that America cannot allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon. That's all for the today. At least 33 Palestinians, including 13 children, were killed in Israeli air strikes, with many more wounded. In a holiday message, the Palestinian resistance group Hamas condemned the attacks as ""brutal Zionist aggression"" and decried the ""siege, starvation, and destruction"" across besieged Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and East Jerusalem. The group accused the international community of remaining silent and blamed the US for supporting Israel amid the ongoing conflict." Netanyahu vows to enforce Trump-backed Palestinian displacement plan "Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to intensify the war on Gaza and advance a contentious, US President Donald Trump-backed plan for Palestinian displacement. Netanyahu's statement comes as an Arab summit proposes a $53 billion Gaza reconstruction plan without displacement—an initiative rejected by Israel and the US. As Israel renews its air strikes on Gaza, the Palestinian death toll has surpassed 50,200 since October 2023. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former defense minister for war crimes, while Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice." Greenland makes it clear: US won't get the island "Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen made it crystal clear: The US will not get Greenland. His statement on Facebook is a response to the US President Donald Trump's desire to take control of the Arctic territory. “We determine our own future,” Nielsen stated. Trump told NBC that he ""100 percent"" will annex Greenland, while Vice President JD Vance, visiting a US base in the island, suggested that Denmark isn't securing the island properly, suggesting that the US would do a better job." Trump expresses 'anger' at Putin over stalled Ukraine talks "Donald Trump, in a sharp shift in tone, expressed ""very angry, pissed off"" sentiments towards Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump's fiery reaction to his Russian counterpart comes amidst stalled peace talks regarding Ukraine. He threatened Putin with ""secondary tariffs on all oil exports from Russia"" if a deal isn't reached and blamed Moscow for the continued bloodshed. Putin's remarks questioning Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's leadership prompted Trump's response. Weeks ago, Trump himself had questioned Zelenskyy's leadership." China's banks plan to raise $71.6 billion to boost capital "China's banking behemoths are poised for a substantial capital infusion. Four major state-owned banks have announced plans to raise a staggering 520 billion yuan or $71.60 billion through private placements, with the finance ministry playing a pivotal role. It has been seen as a strategic step by Beijing to bolster its capacity to invigorate the nation's economy amidst headwinds. Analysts say the recapitalisation step is crucial for navigating economic deceleration and challenges in the property sector."

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Diplomatic reporter Lazar Berman joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. The Israeli military said Saturday evening it had expanded its ground offensive in the southern Gaza Strip to expand a buffer zone along the borders of the Strip, the IDF said. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this morning that the security cabinet last night voted to increase pressure on Hamas. This comes as mediation efforts are stepping up. Berman explains where negotiations stand now -- and why. Last week, Gazans took to the streets in protest against the Hamas regime throughout the Gaza Strip. This morning we learned that Hamas operatives kidnapped, tortured and executed a 22-year-old Palestinian man, Oday Nasser Al Rabay, who participated in last week’s wave of protests, according to his family. This comes as we learn of a June 2023 document from the Defense Ministry unit that oversees the Gaza Strip which recommended a potential long-term truce (hudna) with Hamas. Berman delves into what this document says about Israel's "conception" of Hamas capabilities. Hundreds of thousands of anti-government demonstrators rallied in Istanbul Saturday calling for democracy to be defended after the arrest of mayor Ekrem Imamoglu which sparked Turkey’s worst street unrest in over a decade. Berman examines the Israel-Turkey relationship -- or lack thereof -- since October 7, 2023. Syria’s new transitional government was sworn in Saturday, nearly four months after the Assad family was removed from power and as the new authorities in Damascus work to bring back stability to the war-torn country. While the 23-member Cabinet is religiously and ethnically mixed, Israel sees itself as a defender of Syria's minorities, says Berman. Please see today's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Hamas accepts ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar "The Palestinian resistance group Hamas has accepted a ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar, urging Israel not to obstruct the plan. The leader of Hamas in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, announced the decision on Eid al-Fitr, a holiday following the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, emphasising their commitment to mediation efforts. Al-Hayya said that the weapons of the resistance are a red line. Meanwhile, Israel has countered with its own proposal, reportedly seeking the release of more captives. The push for a deal comes amid renewed Israeli air strikes on Gaza, which have killed over 920 people since March 18. In its war on Gaza, Israel has killed more than 50,200 Palestinians since October 2023, following the Hamas-led attack on Israel." Academy apologizes after backlash over Palestinian filmmaker's arrest "The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has issued an apology after its initial response to the arrest of Palestinian filmmaker Hamdan Ballal sparked outrage. Ballal, co-director of the Oscar-winning No Other Land, was assaulted by Israeli settlers and detained by Israeli forces before his release. Critics slammed the Academy's vague statement, prompting a stronger follow-up. While it now explicitly mentions Ballal and reiterates its condemnation of violence and suppression of free speech, it does not directly name Israel. No Other Land won Best Documentary for exposing Israel's demolition of Palestinian homes. " Syria's al Sharaa unveils new government "A new chapter for Syria has begun as President Ahmad al Sharaa unveiled the newly formed government, emphasizing a commitment to rebuilding state institutions grounded in transparency and accountability. Speaking at a ceremony in Damascus, al Sharaa declared the government's mission to advance education, healthcare and tackle corruption. The cabinet, comprising 22 ministers—including the first woman—covers key sectors, from defence to culture. The groundbreaking change in Syria comes after al Sharaa's leadership, following the ousting of Bashar Assad's regime." Sudanese army secures key area from paramilitary RSF "Sudan's army has announced it has seized control of the crucial Souq Libya market in Omdurman, a key area previously utilised by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces for attacks during the two-year conflict. The new development follows the army's declaration of victory in the capital Khartoum. Souq Libya, a major commercial hub, was left abandoned by the Rapid Support Forces, who fled, leaving behind weapons and equipment. While the army already held much of Omdurman, it aims to secure the entire capital area. The Rapid Support Forces has yet to comment. The UN has described the war, triggered by a power struggle, as one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, causing widespread displacement, hunger and ethnic violence. Estimates suggest tens of thousands have died. The conflict has further destabilised the region.   " Myanmar quake death toll exceeds 1,600 "The death toll from a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand has surpassed 1,600. Myanmar's military junta reports at least 1,644 dead and over 3,400 injured, with the toll expected to rise. The quake, followed by a 6.7-magnitude aftershock, devastated Mandalay and surrounding regions. Rescue efforts continue as the isolated areas struggle with severe damage, including collapsed buildings and infrastructure. Amid the destruction, survivors are calling for urgent aid, with some fearing more casualties are trapped in the rubble."

This weekend, Muslims around California will celebrate Eid al Fitr to mark the end of Ramadan. People observing the holy month have been fasting from dawn to dusk. And although fasting is a big part of Ramadan, so is the food people eat to break the fast each night. Small shops like Besan's International Market in San Bruno are key to observing Ramadan. Not only do they supply the ingredients for the holiday, they also connect people from all ethnicities who follow Islam. Lisa Morehouse and Leenah Bassouni spent time reporting at Besan's Market for the series California Foodways.   Then reporter Steven Cuevas takes us to Altadena. Tens of thousands of people evacuated the city during the Eaton Fire. But some people took a huge risk and never left, and tried to protect their homes and neighborhoods. They lived a totally different experience of the fire and its aftermath. Steven brings us this profile of two residents from opposite ends of Altadena, who made that choice to stay behind.   And finally we go to southeast San Diego, where for decades, a dusty grey wall sat at the top of Division Street. Right where it curves upwards, away from the freeway, and down into the mostly residential neighborhood of Paradise Hills. Three high school friends painted a mural here 30 years ago, and as KPBS's Kori Suzuki explains, they've reunited to bring it back to life. Learn more about your ad choices. "The sound sample comes from a place rich with history but it sounds very contemporary. It is basicaly a mixture of traffic noises of modern city. It provoked a thought about these modern sounds that once may be as historical and ancient to future generations as the pyramids are to us. That led to the reinterpretation of these sounds in my piece as they would come from the distant past, covered in mysterious atosphere and a pinch of nostalgia.  "I chose several separate sounds from the source file (cars, voices). I sent them to the sample module in my modular setup (AEModular), where they were further processed. Almost all the sounds were generated by modules, except short nostalgic melody played on external synth (Korg Minilogue XD). Everything was recorded live in one take (DAWless)." This episode also appears as a video episode on our YouTube channel, you can find it here: How do Moroccans Celebrate Ramadan?----Ramadan in 2025 starts on the evening of Friday, February 28th and goes until Saturday, March 29th, followed by the feast of Eid al-Fitr, or the ‘Feast of Fast-Breaking.' Despite its perhaps solemn reputation, Ramadan is a joyful time for Muslims around the world, Morocco being no exception. As Azdean, Hiba and Sam explain in today's episode, the food is unique and better, families and community frequently come together, and it is a time for celebration and collective spirit, where sacrifice and diligence go hand in hand with helping others and giving back. The question though is often raised by non-Muslim travellers, "Can I travel to Morocco during Ramadan? Is it worth it, is it a good idea?"Our episode today revisits our conversation from a year ago. Although routines and schedules are undeniably different during Ramadan, it is still very much possible to travel to and around Morocco during the holy month, and it is in fact quite a special experience. Hiba, Sam and Azdean discuss the spiritual meaning and practices of Ramadan for Moroccan Muslims, which includes fasting, Zakat (charitable giving), communal traditions such as Iftar (breaking of the fast), and increased recitation of the Quran. Because if you are in Morocco during Ramadan, you'll want to understand what the traditions are, why they're important, and what to look for, to give you a better appreciation for what's happening around you. Then there is some practical travel advice for tourists, including suggested itineraries, cultural etiquette, and meal planning, which is key. Fundamentally, everything remains open in Morocco during Ramadan, from restaurants to shops to riads.
