This Week we were fortunate enough to have one of Todds long time friends and HUSAR team member Tom on the podcast to discuss some of this years recent events including a crane collapse , flood and mudslide rescues as well as training and more. We went on to discuss Reading Fire, Reading Smoke and having to make those hard choices when arriving on scene. Lastly we chatted about Training with our mutual aid departments. WHO WE ARE As a group of Rural Volunteer Firefighters, our Fire Department has built our firefighter training from both old and new tactics in the fire service and adapted them to fit the realities of equipment, manpower, and costs around what our community requires. WHAT WE DO We create video, audio and written word content to share these training and tactics methods with our Brothers and Sisters in our extended fire families, and to showcase to those that may be interested in becoming firefighters the fun you can have and the amazing skills and abilities you get to learn, whilst keeping the lives of the people around you safe! WHY WE SHARE Firefighters are problem solvers whose role requires them to be on their best day whilst others are having their worst day, and while we do not claim to be perfect we are willing to put our lives on the line to try. Jenn Dawkins has been in the fire service since 1997, first as a paid-on-call then onto a career position. During this time she has been part of HUSAR, Hazmat and Heavy Rescue, Recruitment, and Public Education. In early 2021 she received the Pink Helmet of Courage Award after battling cancer during the early stages of the pandemic. For the past year, she has worked as a Training Officer and recently returned to suppression working as an Acting Captain. She is dedicated to fitness, mental wellness and is a lifelong learner. Jenn is a proud dog mom to Shiloh Shepherd Emma and they enjoy participating in Rally Obedience together.

Ta lekcja będzie dotyczyć husarii. Było to wojsko, dzięki któremu Polacy wygrali wiele bitew. Byli to żołnierze, którzy potrafili pokonać armie, które były kilka, albo nawet kilkakrotnie większe. Była to polska ciężka jazda, której się bały armie całej Europy oraz Azji.Skąd się wzięła husaria w Polsce? W języku serbskim jest słowo “usar”, które oznacza wojownika na koniu. W 14 i 15 wieku na Europę zaczęła najeżdżać Turcja. Najpierw zdobywała kraje na południu Europy. Turcja podbiła Bułgarię i później także Serbię. Kiedy to było? Mniej więcej wtedy, kiedy Polacy walczyli pod Grunwaldem z Krzyżakami. Królem był wtedy Władysław Jagiełło. Serbowie utracili swoje państwo, ale ich wojownicy, którzy nosili nazwę “usar” chcieli walczyć dalej. Turcja zaatakowała Węgry. Być może pamiętacie, że syn Władysława Jagiełły, syn o takim samym imieniu, Władysław Warneńczyk chciał uratować Węgry przed Turcją. Niestety nie udało mu się. Serbowie walczyli więc z Turkami na Węgrzech. Ale także Węgry zostały podbite przez Turcję. Teraz Turcja zagrażała już Polsce.Zanim jednak przejdziemy do tych bitew, w których brała udział husaria porozmawiajmy o koniach i uzbrojeniu. Po pierwsze husaria potrzebowała dobrych koni. Na jakich koniach jeździli husarze? W tamtych czasach na stepach było dużo dzikich koni zwanych tarpanami. Polacy złapali te konie i wyhodowali konia, który był bardzo silny, a jednocześnie potrafił się żywić tym co znalazł na stepie. Te konie były tak dobre, że gdy królem był Zygmunt I Stary za sprzedanie takiego konia za granicę groziła kara śmierci. Taki polski koń mógł cały dzień jechać i wieczorem być gotowym do bitwy. Jak dobre były to konie okazało się w bitwie pod Kłuszynem. Konie jechały wraz z jeźdźcami i uzbrojeniem przez całą noc, potem szarżowały dziesięć razy, a gdy Rosjanie uciekali husaria jeszcze ich goniła.Teraz zajmijmy się uzbrojeniem husarii. Usarze, czyli ci jeźdźcy z Serbii to była lekka kawaleria. Mieli oni krótkie lance czyli takie dzidy i nie mieli zbroi. Kto zmienił tych usarów z krótką lancą i bez zbroi w husarię czyli jeźdźców z bardzo długimi kopiami i zbroją oraz hełmem? W 1575 królem Polski został Stefan Batory. Powiedział on, że nie będzie królem malowanym, czyli takim królem, który jest tylko na obrazach, ale takim królem, który działa. Przeprowadził on zmiany w polskiej armii. Te zmiany to piechota wybraniecka oraz husaria. Dzisiaj zajmiemy się husarią.Najważniejsza bronią husarii była kopia. Kopie, czyli takie długie dzidy dla jeźdźców używano w całej Europie. Być może widzieliście turniej rycerski na którym dwóch rycerzy jedzie naprzeciw siebie. Każdy z nich ma kopię i stara się zrzucić drugiego z konia. Tak więc kopie mieli wszyscy, ale polska kopia była najlepsza. Dlaczego? Polskie kopie były najdłuższe, bo były puste w środku. Niestety kopia miała jedną wadę. Była jednorazowa. Tz. po każdym ataku husar potrzebował kolejnej kopii. Podczas niektórych bitew husarzy wracali po nowe kopie i atakowali ponownie. Takich ataków husarii mogło być aż dziesięć podczas jednej bitwy. Co jednak gdy husar nie mógł wrócić po nową kopię, a musiał walczyć? Rozwiązaniem był koncerz. Czy wiecie co to było? Koncerz to taki miecz, który nadaje się wyłącznie do kłucia. Była to jakby taka krótka kopia z uchwytem jaki ma miecz lub szabla. Można więc powiedzieć, że koncerz to taka kopia, którą się trzyma jak miecz.Oprócz kopii, koncerza i innego uzbrojenia husar miał też zbroję i hełm. Polscy husarze mieli lepszą zbroję od usarów, którzy mieli tylko skórzane kaftany. Zbroja husarów to jednak nie była ciężka zbroja jaką nosili rycerze na zachodzie Europy. Oni mieli tak ciężkie zbroje, że na konia wsiadali przy pomocy dźwigu. Jaką więc zbroję miała husaria? Lekką zbroję. Lepszą niż usarze, ale lżejszą niż ciężkie rycerstwo.Polscy husarze mieli też taki specyficzny, czyli łatwo rozpoznawalny hełm. Jak on wyglądał? Hełm husarza był takim zwykłym ogrągłym hełmem, alby były do niego przyczepione 4 rzeczy. Z tyłu było nadkarcze, które chroniło kark czyli szyję z tyłu. Hełm miał też po każdej stronie ochronę na uszy i policzki, a z przodu był nosal. Husarii się potem tak bano, że np. armia szwedzka nie chciała walczyć z armią polską chociaż Szwedów było kilkakrotnie więcej. Wiedzieli oni jednak, że chociaż Polaków jest mniej to mają husarię. Później inni chcieli naśladować polskich husarów. Np. Rosjanie zrobili swoją własną husarię, ale ci rosyjscy husarze nie potrafili nawet wyjechać z miasta. Zapomnieli opuścić kopie przed bramą i wszystkie kopie roztrzaskały się o bramę.Musicie uważać aby nie pomylić husara z huzarem. Husar (z literką “s” w środku) to ciężka kawaleria z długimi kopiami, a huzar (z literką “z” w środku) to konny jeździec, ale bez kopi. Husarze byli w Polsce, a huzarze w Austrii.

Ta lekcja będzie dotyczyć husarii. Było to wojsko, dzięki któremu Polacy wygrali wiele bitew. Byli to żołnierze, którzy potrafili pokonać armie, które były kilka, albo nawet kilkakrotnie większe. Była to polska ciężka jazda, której się bały armie całej Europy oraz Azji.Skąd się wzięła husaria w Polsce? W języku serbskim jest słowo “usar”, które oznacza wojownika na koniu. W 14 i 15 wieku na Europę zaczęła najeżdżać Turcja. Najpierw zdobywała kraje na południu Europy. Turcja podbiła Bułgarię i później także Serbię. Kiedy to było? Mniej więcej wtedy, kiedy Polacy walczyli pod Grunwaldem z Krzyżakami. Królem był wtedy Władysław Jagiełło. Serbowie utracili swoje państwo, ale ich wojownicy, którzy nosili nazwę “usar” chcieli walczyć dalej. Turcja zaatakowała Węgry. Być może pamiętacie, że syn Władysława Jagiełły, syn o takim samym imieniu, Władysław Warneńczyk chciał uratować Węgry przed Turcją. Niestety nie udało mu się. Serbowie walczyli więc z Turkami na Węgrzech. Ale także Węgry zostały podbite przez Turcję. Teraz Turcja zagrażała już Polsce.Zanim jednak przejdziemy do tych bitew, w których brała udział husaria porozmawiajmy o koniach i uzbrojeniu. Po pierwsze husaria potrzebowała dobrych koni. Na jakich koniach jeździli husarze? W tamtych czasach na stepach było dużo dzikich koni zwanych tarpanami. Polacy złapali te konie i wyhodowali konia, który był bardzo silny, a jednocześnie potrafił się żywić tym co znalazł na stepie. Te konie były tak dobre, że gdy królem był Zygmunt I Stary za sprzedanie takiego konia za granicę groziła kara śmierci. Taki polski koń mógł cały dzień jechać i wieczorem być gotowym do bitwy. Jak dobre były to konie okazało się w bitwie pod Kłuszynem. Konie jechały wraz z jeźdźcami i uzbrojeniem przez całą noc, potem szarżowały dziesięć razy, a gdy Rosjanie uciekali husaria jeszcze ich goniła.Teraz zajmijmy się uzbrojeniem husarii. Usarze, czyli ci jeźdźcy z Serbii to była lekka kawaleria. Mieli oni krótkie lance czyli takie dzidy i nie mieli zbroi. Kto zmienił tych usarów z krótką lancą i bez zbroi w husarię czyli jeźdźców z bardzo długimi kopiami i zbroją oraz hełmem? W 1575 królem Polski został Stefan Batory. Powiedział on, że nie będzie królem malowanym, czyli takim królem, który jest tylko na obrazach, ale takim królem, który działa. Przeprowadził on zmiany w polskiej armii. Te zmiany to piechota wybraniecka oraz husaria. Dzisiaj zajmiemy się husarią.Najważniejsza bronią husarii była kopia. Kopie, czyli takie długie dzidy dla jeźdźców używano w całej Europie. Być może widzieliście turniej rycerski na którym dwóch rycerzy jedzie naprzeciw siebie. Każdy z nich ma kopię i stara się zrzucić drugiego z konia. Tak więc kopie mieli wszyscy, ale polska kopia była najlepsza. Dlaczego? Polskie kopie były najdłuższe, bo były puste w środku. Niestety kopia miała jedną wadę. Była jednorazowa. Tz. po każdym ataku husar potrzebował kolejnej kopii. Podczas niektórych bitew husarzy wracali po nowe kopie i atakowali ponownie. Takich ataków husarii mogło być aż dziesięć podczas jednej bitwy. Co jednak gdy husar nie mógł wrócić po nową kopię, a musiał walczyć? Rozwiązaniem był koncerz. Czy wiecie co to było? Koncerz to taki miecz, który nadaje się wyłącznie do kłucia. Była to jakby taka krótka kopia z uchwytem jaki ma miecz lub szabla. Można więc powiedzieć, że koncerz to taka kopia, którą się trzyma jak miecz.Oprócz kopii, koncerza i innego uzbrojenia husar miał też zbroję i hełm. Polscy husarze mieli lepszą zbroję od usarów, którzy mieli tylko skórzane kaftany. Zbroja husarów to jednak nie była ciężka zbroja jaką nosili rycerze na zachodzie Europy. Oni mieli tak ciężkie zbroje, że na konia wsiadali przy pomocy dźwigu. Jaką więc zbroję miała husaria? Lekką zbroję. Lepszą niż usarze, ale lżejszą niż ciężkie rycerstwo.Polscy husarze mieli też taki specyficzny, czyli łatwo rozpoznawalny hełm. Jak on wyglądał? Hełm husarza był takim zwykłym ogrągłym hełmem, alby były do niego przyczepione 4 rzeczy. Z tyłu było nadkarcze, które chroniło kark czyli szyję z tyłu. Hełm miał też po każdej stronie ochronę na uszy i policzki, a z przodu był nosal.
